Fantastic for Amigurumi
This app is absolutely fantastic for tracking projects and supplies. In particular, I use it for amigurumi makes, and it suits that use better than any other app I’ve come across. Also, the connectivity with the watch app means that there’s a synced stitch counter on your wrist, which is so incredibly useful. When I finish projects, I end up with a great history of my progress notes and special methods.
App features are buggy
4/24/26 - after years of non-responsiveness from the developer who only says she’s working on the yarn database and no update on a year, I am moving on from an app I fully paid for that does not deliver. I have switched to Loopsy where the designer is eager for feedback and has already implemented many of the features in this app. It’s so disappointing because there are a lot things I like about this app but the lack of an updated yarn database has sealed the deal. _______ App support is non-existent and support requests go unanswered. Marking a project finished does not update the yarn stash quantity. The yarn database is lacking. I stick with it because I LOVE the Apple Watch compilation and being able to update row count and see where I am with counters is awesome. I just wish the yarn database would work and I also wish there were more filters on the yarn stash. For example, if I want to look for a brand AND fiber type. I’ve reached out to the developer and do not get any app support. All she says is I know, I know and it’s being worked on. Still worth the money for the app and I am hoping she fixes it soon.
Love! Yet: Want More (Pretty Please with a Skein on Top?)!
YarnBuddy hosts links to most of my digital patterns (my publication library is up next), my entire yarn, thread, notions and tool stash - and 100+ projects I intend to do now that I’m retired. Clearly I love the tool given my investment and belief in it! ❤️ Yet, would it be too much if I also add (beg?): pretty please - I/we (maybe taking liberties here to also speak for the whole community?) want more! I am an annual subscriber and our last update was over a year ago. Sadly that was only a bug fix. What’s coming next?!!! And if you need help, I’m raising my hand… 🤚 Thank you!
Really Mediocre
I had a complicated pattern and YarnBuddy did a poor job of reminding me when I was on a buttonhole row or on a row I needed to increase. Very disappointed.
works but has bugs
edit 8.30.26 this app has not been updated in ages. There’s still yarns that are fairly basic to most collectors or crochets or fabric artist dashes that are still not in here. The bugs that I talked about in my last review have not been fixed, and I just think that this developer completely abandoned the project. I did try to reach out to email them to offer free help even, and just to update the yarns. But zero response, no updates again, and I just don’t think that it’s worth continuing to pay for a yearly subscription or subscription.. Download to keep track of your projects and your stashes, but honestly just get a spreadsheet. —————————————————— overall, I do enjoy using the app. My number one gripe with it, though is trying to mark a project as finished. And having it on multiple devices. I have it on both my iPad and my iPhone, but in order for me to mark a project as completed, I need to do it on both devices. I have removed it from my iPad, but I still cannot save a project as completed in my phone. When I do it changes the date to the current day and not the date that was previously started. It also just revert it to being archived or doesn’t update the yarn quantity when I market is finished.
What I needed
I’ve had several apps, but this covers all the ones I had in just one app. Patterns, counters, stash, needles It seems the only thing I’ve had problem w with annotations and it’s not always reliable and works slowly. I think the $ is well worth it, Update: I’d like to change my subscription to the one time payment (permanent) instead of yearly payments but I can’t find where. I know the option was there before. Thank you I had read if you cancel your subscription the option to pay once would come back up, i did, but i still see nothing. I want to purchase and not worry about yearly payments.
Projects won’t open
As of now I’m super disappointed because projects won’t open. It says iCloud is synced, I’ve restarted my phone, made sure iCloud is working and backed up and synced, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and nothing. The project starts to open and then goes back to the main screen. No error message. Super bummed that this isn’t working as of now. Happy to change my review if the app will actually work and let me look at projects.
So good with a couple fixes
This is my go-to crochet pattern manager, the multiple, configurable counters are fantastic and I love how you can move the highlight bat over what step you’re on. The only thing that really bothers me is that when switching from YarnBuddy to another app (if you’re doing multiple things), when you go back, it takes you to the homepage and closes your pattern instead of keeping that page open. It’s super annoying because you have to keep opening your pattern over and over again. PLEASE fix that! Less important but still great feature would be if you could import your stash from Ravelry.

Great app
Update 1.11.26- the app stopped backing up and nothing will fix it. I reached out to the developer and haven't heard anything. Pretty disappointed. This is exactly what I need to keep my yarn stash and wips/future wips organized. Super easy to use and love being able to add pictures, link to ravelry patterns, etc. Would be awesome to see a link to Pinterest pins at some point too. Will probably be upgrading to the paid version soon- it's worth it!
Great, could use one thing
I love this app. I love how I can time how much I spend on a project. BUT, I sometimes forget to stop the timer! I wish there was a widget or a notification pop up on my screen saver where I can stop the timer from my lock screen!
Watch app sync unreliable
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FIX THE WATCH APP!!! In general I like the app, but I’m very Apple Watch centric. I find that the syncing between watch and phone app is unreliable. The watch app shuts down between rows and so it’s three+ taps just to click the next row count. (Yes, I have the watch app to stay active for 1 hour in the watch preferences). So for my main use, I really can’t rely on it.
Decent Row Counter
It does what you need it to, love being able to track repeating rows. I do wish there wasn’t syncing issues with the watch feature but I’ve done everything that has been recommended to try. I’ve had to just remove it from the watch because of the syncing/tracking issues, I’ll track on my watch do another row and somehow the count is back a couple rows or 0… which doesn’t help when I’m tracking rows. Makes me sad because the watch function was one of the features I was most excited to use. Works fine on iPhone and iPad.
Feature Request
Really liking this app, I do have a feature request if you hit your last row on a counter (that isn’t a repeating counter) can the counter color change or can there be some other indication that you hit your last row?

Good organization
I like this app to help track my projects and inventory my yarn/tools. I would want better filters to help narrow down what I’m looking for in future updates. But overall good app to use. Also has a pay once feature for premium to save money. $45 and you get premium for life instead of $15 per year. Cost isn’t bad at all
Don’t buy full version
The full pay one time is $50 or dollars. I was using the free version for a long time and wanted to support this development. When I finally purchased, the app now is worse than the free. The highlighter doesn’t save previous work, and it’s delayed on the screen. I wish I could get my money back because that was a huge waste that could go towards a better app.

Exactly what I needed
I did not think I would love this app as much as I do and had zero intention of sticking with the paid version. It is AMAZING and the features are so thoughtful. I love the highlight line when you open a pattern and the counter and timer features are very well done. The only small change I would like is to have a status for projects on hold. But otherwise it is perfect and better than I would have imagined

Love this app
I really love this app, especially the connection to the Apple Watch. I like being able to use my watch as a counter without having to use my phone. I do wish I could remove the total rows counter. It never use it but it pops up first in my watch. The watch interface is very sensitive and I have added counts by mistake. But, still, a great app.
Nice but only does 50%
Nice to keep an eye on your stash and projects. The one function that I was after (Ravelry import) doesn‘t work at all. So nothing special compared to other apps.
I try to love this app but it’s hard.
I always want to give this app 5 stars but it is not a user friendly app at all. The completion date on the projects I’ve done cannot be changed and is often set to the wrong date. No matter what I do. I also wish you could organize the projects in a different way. I’d like to be able to only see current projects that aren’t completed but also aren’t archived. And why would I need a future projects tabs? It’s weird. I should also be able to filter by knitting or crochet.
Crocheted Dream app!
I LOVE this app. I use it almost daily as I crochet quite a bit. It is so useful for keeping track of projects. The rows/rounds counter is amazing. Being able to log all of your tools a yarn stash is also amazing! I also appreciate that it’ll make a pdf out of free patterns posted on websites and import them into the app for easy reference.
Could not be open
Since yet I could not open the App on my Iphone.
Love! But wish…
I love this app for the ease of use. The only thing I’d change is I wish there was a way to organize the patterns into categories. I’d love to be able to have all the blankets in one folder, Christmas patterns in another folder, hats in another.

Over Promise, Under Deliver
The app is supposed to be able to look up yarn by scanning the tag. I’m not sure what yarn is in their database, but after trying to scan Plymouth superwash worsted, Berroco sock, Cascade 128 superwash, and Malabrigo Rasta, and their database not finding them, I’m done. I don’t have super exotic yarns in my stash and I feel like an app created just for this purpose should have these common brands in their database. I’ll go back to Ravelry for now and will check back at a later time to see if there have been any meaningful updates.
It’s got some bugs but I love it
I love that YarnBuddy is so easy to use. I signed up for Pro so I could get all my WIPs in there. It’s really a handy app. I learned that I have 5 Current Projects in there! Most of my stash is recorded in there too. While I love this app, there are a few “bugs” or improvements I wish she would make. 1) Keep the pattern open even after moving away from the app for a moment. Now I have to reopen the pattern to continue on 2)I’ve just started my switch over to Mac for my desktop. There are no annotations on the Mac version. It doesn’t sync with my iPad either and display the annotations I’ve made on my pattern pages. I keep track of rows - which one I am on currently. I highlight, circle and underline especially difficult parts of the pattern that are convoluted or poorly written. I’m making one right now That has Red and Blue marks all over it. It really helps. 3) The Mac version doesn’t return you to the page you last viewed. So each time you have to scroll down to find the spot you left off.l. I hope she can resolve these problems real soon! I’d love it more if this could happen!! PLEASE?!

Impossible to add more than 2 projects
I would love to use this app, it seems really great, but there is a bug every time I try to add a project (I create a project, save it… and nothing is added to my project list). I’m supposed to be able to add 10 projects in the free version. I’m just not convinced that the Pro version is worth the cost if the app is not properly working from the start.

App and widget for my iWatch was brilliant until stop working. On the phone works fine but widget on the watch freeze after few minutes of use it.
Excellent…however…
I bought yarn buddy not too long ago. I adore it, with one small exception of not being able to close the project list side menu, and it’s blocking the timer for my next project…I’m confused. This is on my iPad and on other projects the menu closes properly. Please help! It has taken 15 years for me to find an app with everything I need to track all in one place…..I don’t want to go back to that search. Also I tried to email to the address that has been given to others, but got a report that the address doesn’t exist. Got to say I’m quite disappointed

I’ve been doing crochet for a year and a half and ive never been so organized with it
Crashing
I have been using Yarn Buddy for a few months now and it’s great for keeping track of yarn. When tempted with a new skein I can instantly see if I already have it or something similar. I have also listed all my needles so again can quickly see if I have the necessary tools. However I am getting very frustrated that when trying to add project details (and I only have about 8 listed) the app keeps crashing. As soon as I try to add the yarn that I used to the project it crashes. I am using iPhone with up to date systems but when scrolling through the yarn it crashes before I get to the one I need. 24/08/24. Yet again trying to add a project as as I am adding the yarn the app keeps crashing. It has now crashes 5 times and each time I need to start from the beginning. I’m starting to wonder if a piece of paper and pen would work better for keeping track of the project details, there only some many times I can be bothered to try
Lots of Features
Lots of useful features. Was the only app I found that uses bar codes for yarn, but the data base is lacking. So far only 2 of 20 yarns were recognized. Reasonable price. Great for keeping track of projects. Great for seeing yardage at a glance. Easy to edit if you add more. Overall a really good app but the only drawback is the one feature I was hoping would be helpful dealing with my death pile.
Stopped working on my Apple Watch
I would have given this app 5 stars… however, it stopped working on my Apple Watch a few weeks ago, and that was one of my favorite features. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but nothing worked.
Great app but pro price out of touch!
I love this app it works really well although it would be nice to have a project and then add sections with rows to that project however not that big an issue. Barcodes for adding yarn still doesn’t work but I don’t mind taking the pics of my yarn and adding the details. Their price for their pro version is what has me looking for another app. I wouldn’t mind paying a one time fee of 20 or so but 59.99 is insane or the other option is a subscription fee of 18.99 per year and it’s way too high for either option so I will go looking for something else that does what I need and allows me to purchase a pro version without ridiculous pricing options! Sad that I will lose this app but they are just out of touch with pricing!
This is amazing!!
When I realized that I couldn’t find items in my stash quickly ( or, sometimes, at all!) I knew that the time had come to formally inventory my collection. After a bit of research, I found this app. It is brilliant. After an investment of time to enter each skein/ball, I had a complete, searchable record! It has already proven its worth. I was on the verge of purchasing a lovely skein of hand dyed yarn when I remembered my vow to use Yarn Buddy to avoid my usual goof of buying essentially the same yarn multiple times. I checked my inventory and, lo and behold, I did have a skein of very similar yarn. The vague memory from having entered the yarn into my inventory, backed up by the inventory entry did exactly what I had been working toward. Huzzah! And there are so many other features on this app to enhance my knitting experience. Thank you from the bottom of my yarn obsessed heart!
Abysmal.
Seems like non-stop bugs using on my ipad. Initially I loved the app but all the performance issues mean I have to keep wiping and reinstalling. And reduced functionality if you choose not to back up using iCloud. After the app jamming and wiping all my info on other occasions finally giving up and pitching it and sticking with Ravelry.
I love it but…
I absolutely love this app! It is extremely helpful with my crochet projects. However it force closes constantly which is why I’m giving it 4 stars. I can’t get through 1-2 rounds on my project without it closing and I have to restart the app. Please fix this issue and I’ll change my rating to 5 stars.
Glad I waited
I REALLY want to love this app and was prepared to buy it outright, but so far it is glitchy about letting me input yarns into my stash especially when using the duplicate function. Sometimes I can edit the number of skeins etc, other times it kicks me out of the record and back to the stash page. Other times it stops allowing me to interact with a yarn entry at all, won’t even open it. There are no ways to contact anyone about tech support. I’m not sure if this is something that would be fixed by an upgrade to Pro but the price is still a little steep without knowing if this is a bug that will be addressed.

The App does everything you could possibly want it to - it’s change the game for row counting and managing your pattern. I want to give it 5 stars but it crashes constantly and randomly removes or adds rows so I can’t give it more than 3
