Just feels scammy.
I’ve paid for flatmates over the last 8-9 years at least x10 times. They are increasing the prices for premium access and offering less value than more with just smart marketing tactics. It just feels like they’ve gotten greedy. I used to really value paying for this app but now I don’t bother using it. Years ago when I didn’t get someone in they used to offer an extra 30 days when I contacted them last time they didn’t offer anything additional when I didn’t fill the room. Now when you use the free option you get literally ZERO messages / responses now because they want you to pay for it.

Buggy plus expensive
I first tried to use the website. It kept going full white screen using safari so I switched to chrome (iOS) that worked until I’d added my property and couldn’t verify my mobile number in any browser so I was forced to download app. Once my listing was live very few people looked at it and no one contacted me, the site is vague and gave the impression that it was maybe delaying or blocking the messages until I paid. So I spent $45 and after 6 hours a few messages started to come it. But then I get notifications without the messages appearing in my inbox, so it is certainly delaying them and makes me have to check the app multiple times until the message appears. Then whenever you browse people looking for flats and you click to view someone you are shown the previous person you already looked at and have to click back to see the person you are after. Very annoying poorly tested expensive experience with not as much inbound interest as the price deserves.
Can only hit the pause button on plan once. Wish I was told that prior
Can’t accidentally hit wrong button to choose to put plan on hold . I pushed the wrong button and now I can’t pause my plan. Only upgrade. I only paid $30 a few days ago. I’m getting surgery and can’t move atm. Wish I could pause my plan more than once.

Better in big cities
I am disappointed I paid so much money for 1 month for this. Half of the people concern me as fake that are looking for rooms (mostly attractive girls), foreigners! The social media verification does not work, get a 404 page error which means the page is gone or link is broken. In a small regional area when you have Facebook offering large groups doing the same, this has been dissatisfying and too much money. I have used it in the past and can see it’s now overpopulated with fake accounts like a dating site or something.
Suggestions
I would love to see more options to customise the search experience. For example, having the ability to hide listings that I don’t like or mark preferences so they don’t keep appearing would make the process much more efficient. The filters could also be improved by adding more specific options, such as pets. For example, I am allergic to cats, so having a “no cats” preference would prevent me from being matched with houses that are not suitable for me and save everyone’s time. It would also be helpful to have a filter for the maximum number of people in the house. For me, four people would be the absolute maximum, so being able to exclude houses with five or six people would make the search much more relevant. Overall, adding more detailed filters and personal preferences would make it easier to find suitable homes and create a much better experience for both renters and property advertisers.

Just get a bunch of errors trying to do searches and doesn’t validate social media. How can any modern app have a 404 error?!

The concept is great but the app isn’t great. Quite a few glitches and push notifications don’t work
Very useful
This app helped me find several shared accommodation options, and I’m overall very happy with it. The only drawback is that messaging flatmates directly and getting immediate responses requires a paid upgrade. Without it, messages are delayed, which can be an issue if you need to find a place urgently. For me, the upgrade was worth it because of the time pressure. If you’re searching quickly, keep this limitation of the free version in mind. Otherwise, Flatmates has a wide range of listings, from budget rooms to more premium options, so it suits most needs. Overall, I’d definitely recommend it.
Terrible service
This app does not have proper explanation about why the listing is pending for over weeks now and been notifying me with premium purchases instead of approving my listing
No Dark theme
Due to no Dark theme it is very bright during night use and lots of glare on the eye. Such a simple thing to implement but the developers can’t even think about users eye safety.
Needs improvement
The app is very useful for finding flatmates. I think that the mobile interface needs access to inspection times. Currently only accessible through a computer.

Who charges a minimum of $30 (there’s a cheaper plan for $20 that lasts a whopping 10 days) so that desperate people can find a house? The people that made this app should be ashamed
App functionality problems
The Flatmates app’s functionality is broken and unreliable. Bugs persist for years with no fixes from the owners. Needs major work.
In-app messaging
The app is great but it every time I get a message, it says “oops! We’re having trouble” even though my connection is fine. I even have to use the web version on my phone - which isn’t a big deal but I would love it if the messaging worked on the app. If I want to go on flatmates, I’ll reach for my laptop first as everything works properly.

It doesn’t show the keyboard to write my ideal flatmate when I’m trying to list. I’m using iPhone 16 pro.
The app is very slow
The app itself is good, makes it very easy to find a place that is suitable for you, not showing places that don’t have your preferred preferences like other apps, however when typing the app is so slow it makes it very difficult to communicate with people on there, it also takes a good few moments to even get onto the app, and as some one who is also using their plan I find this quite frustrating
Useful but need work
I found it helpful as I did get the result I was looking for, however it is a bit buggy. Can make it stressful when you aren’t able to open a message of a potential prospect .
Accomodation searcher.
I placed an add for a place to live and the Prefered locations (suburbs) and within 48 hours I had a choice of 5 options in the locations I had outlined in my application. On the third day I was sitting in a room with one of the house mates discussing the requirements needed to move in. It was fantastic how Flatmates found places for me to inspect In my preferred locations do quickly and if all gos well , and there is n reason to think it won’t, I will be moving in next week . All within 2 weeks of my application. Impressed is a word I rearly use but I am impressed with Flatmates.com.

Beware of fickle and predatory renters
The app is generally easy to use and navigate. However, when using it on a mobile device, messages can take a long time to load and occasionally fail altogether, only going through after multiple attempts. Unfortunately, my experience with some users on this platform has been extremely disappointing. Certain lessors will agree to rent you a room, only to change their mind at the last minute, leaving you in a vulnerable position. Others attempt to take advantage of urgent housing situations by demanding immediate bond payments without providing a written rental agreement, keys, or any form of identification to verify that they are the legitimate lessor. While the rental market is challenging, you may be better off pursuing more secure and formal avenues when searching for accommodation. Always ensure that the lessor provides proper documentation before transferring any funds. Please check consumer protection website for more details.

This app does not provide a good service to the user especially to the landlord. Take it’s user the money without providing any service! I requested my full refund.
