I have 2 children with ADHD and this has been a great way to organize and incentivize them. Installation and set up was easy and it hasn’t slowed down their devices like some parental control apps. Both my children and myself love this app!

Customer service sucks.

I’ve been trying to get a hold of somebody in customer service for over a week now with no response. I have emailed and I have called, both several times. I was charged $89 and I don’t know why I didn’t even know what this app was. I did not do the free trial and I cannot find where to cancel. It does not show that I have a subscription through my email or through my iPhone so I don’t know what else to do. I would not recommend!!

Pretty Good, But Not Improving

Summary: this app is useful for tracking chores and giving rewards for completing them, but missing basic organizing for multiple kids, and focuses too much on the virtual pet. Best for younger children. Pros: overall easy chore management, kids and parents can all participate, rewards are nice and adjustable for lots of different purposes (trip to the candy aisle is a popular one here) Cons: too much focus on virtual pet. Kids are not nearly as interested in the pet as the development team seems to think, and simple features are missing such as the ability to rotate a chore between kids. The support team is responsive, but no changes have been made in the several years of feedback we have given.

Good but needs a little tweak

We’ve been using joon for a while and it’s been helpful. However we need the ability to see our lists and chores when offline. With the internet outage yesterday we lost all ability to access the app and it’s still down today. My daughter’s tech does not have a phone line so if we’re not home she can’t see the tasks on her own without my phone. It would be so helpful if she can see it even when not home/on WiFi.

This app has been great for our son with ADHD, autism and Pathological Demand Avoidance. - He enjoys caring for and talking to his pet. - earning rewards It’s helpful to keep his and us on track and accountable. Only change request is for pet care related Joon coins to be separate to hours/rewards earned through quests. So maybe by caring for your pet you earn Joon coins and for quests, you earn reward coins for hours or pocket money.

Pros and Cons

This app has been useful for keeping a steady time-based checklist for our neuro-divergent family. However, most days it becomes another task to make sure our child actually references and checks off the daily quests… but I don’t think that aspect would change with a different checklist system. Some features have been useful: I like that there are two ways to access the app so we can keep our child’s app on one device and the parent portal on our own device. The doter chat feature has actually been really fun for our kiddo and I like that we can see it on the parent side. Caring for the doters has kept our child’s interest, especially since new ones hatch all the time. The custom reward system has been working well for us. Neat that we can add quests & rewards for parents too. For how much this app costs, there are aspects I wish were more user friendly: 1. The custom quest “save template” doesn’t actually save, it doesn’t show up on the new quest screen. There are instructions how to find it and mine are simply not there. Which can be very annoying because it’s not super clear about how to make it repeat every day, and when you edit a quest you don’t have the option to retroactively repeat every day or duplicate. 2. The quest skill categories are nice but I wish we could sort the checklist by categories rather than only by time of day. 3. The games are not super educational and I wish they weren’t in the app at all. 4. I wish there was a more advanced reward option where users can make “payments” of coins to build up to a larger goal. Right now we have to make individual rewards that are “_x_ toward _goal_” and it’s not easy to count how many times it was purchased. The parent side shows individual line items for “purchased” and “used” so at first glance it looks like two separate purchases. 5. Different sort options in general would be better for quest checklist, and add a filter option. 6. It would be nice to make a quest that just has to be completed once a week, but not on a specific day. 7. Some of the suggested most-used quests make me sad, because apparently lots of users don’t know how to make quests measurable/attainable/realistic for kids.

Tedious and illogical

I found the interface to be very frustrating. If you’ve ever used My Fitness Pal and understand the precision and focus that requires, then you’ll understand this app. It is difficult to navigate for simple things like assigning times, and once assigned it doesn’t even automatically put them in sequential order based on the times. I will not be renewing this subscription. As a parent with ADHD, it takes too much focus for me to benefit from.

Not even kind of worth the money

I was expecting this to be more like a mobile game where game play was moved along by completing chores. It’s basically a to-do list, Tomagatchi, and allowance system rolled into a single app. My son never remembers to use it. He still gets his chores done, but doesn’t mark them off or even open the app because it’s boring. The reward system basically requires you to be able to afford special outings and toys in real life, and frequently. And honestly if you can do that, what do you even need the app for? It provides zero motivation on its own.

Needs improving

This app is a good idea and has helped our 8yo AuDHD son with his routine. However I do have some issues. Some of the quest suggestions are pushing Neurotypical behaviours onto Neurodivergent children. For example have a conversation with eye contact without being reminded. This is surely not the point of the app. It just encourages masking in children that already struggle enough. There were many quests I simply scrolled past due to them being all about meeting the expectations of Neurotypical people. He does that all day at school. We do not expect this behaviour at home too. I also find the price too expensive. Ideally we would pay monthly. Incase our son stops finding the app useful. To pay monthly is extortionate compared to annually. I also think if you’re paying this much money for it, the app should be better. The children’s app is glitchy and looks cheaply made. We only paid as my son is enjoying it but I think there needs to be a lot of improvement.

Great theory, kids abandoned after 1 month

The idea behind this app is wonderful and has great potential. Unfortunately, it didn’t stick for my family. A monthly subscription option would have been appreciated or perhaps a 2-week trial to fully understand the app before committing to the full year cost $$$. My suggestion would be to have the reminders/notifications to check tasks be within the children’s side of the app. I found that after the newness had worn off for the kids that I was back in nag mode to make them check the app. There is so much management needed on the parents’ side that it became too much of a task to maintain daily. It appears there is a great amount of customization that can be done, plus useful templates but I simply don’t have that much time to invest in learning. There’s gold in these hills if the app could lean in more on training the children how to make these habits and be accountable for checking off tasks themselves — and not just collecting rewards from the parents’ complex effort to build and maintain the checkboxes. I appreciate the effort to help ADHD parents — keep refining it and you’ll be successful.

Makes a difference

This app is really easy to use and when I had questions at the start the replies were super fast from Brad (1 of the developers) There are a few changes I’d like to see on the parent side of the app but having it being so new there is room for improvement! Really handy that you can print the kids quests for a room visual and that you can set their screen time to only be used after quests are completed! I’m hopefully this is the solution for our family as I’m sick of sticker charts the the children are growing out of them! This app is extremely helpful in a reminding system for those struggling with executive functioning and being easily distracted!

Frustratingly Limited

Awesome concept and my younger kids are totally into it. First block I ran into was trying to approve just 2 tasks on the free plan. I thought well let me give autonomy to my kids, they did great with that until they could barely approve/check off a task without a message stating to talk to a parent for a subscription. I understand an app needs funds to do programming, updates and to continually advance its product. However I was under the impression that we could accomplish something. Be warned the basic “free” plan will have you pulling your hair out after doing all the set up and disappointed kids when they can barely collect on their achievements.

Habitica but tamagotchi

I am the kid who uses the game part of the app, but I do know it is subscription based. I wanted to ask the devs if they could make it a one time purchase so it doesn’t become too pricey for parents. For parents who want to get this and the other part for their kids, I would recommend if your child is a bit lazy or if your kid doesn’t have the motivation, but the amount of money you’d have to pay is too expensive for me to not worry about my mother’s finances. Overall, it is a good game that helps motivates kids, but it is expensive. Habitica is a lot like it, but your kid doesn’t have to actually confirm they did anything, so it would be pretty useless if your kid lies. This app has you approve it, but costs money. It’s the lesser of two evils anyway, so I’d recommend for ADHD parents (like my mother) or parents who just struggle with getting their kid ready to be a good member of society. Overall, would give it 5 stars if not for the fact it costs money. (P.S. if you think my wording sounds like an adult, it’s not. I just have a stupidly large vocabulary.) Bye!

Not Great For Older Kids or Tweens

Disappointed that the interface for kids has a design that is (probably great for young kids, but) not great for our 12 year old. It has a pet that you use your earned coins to feed and take care of. Cute if you’re six, :-/ but insulting to our 12yo, frankly. You can set up an exchange rate from coins to rewards containing a dollar amount (which is what we were looking for), special activities, or screen time. Since the parent and kid interface/apps are separate, I didn’t know what the kid’s app was like until after I’d spent the last 4 hours setting everything up. 🤦🏻‍♀️ If they had a kids app for different ages or interests I think that would help a LOT.

Joon has helped immensely

Joon had helped out 4.5 year old son with ADHD and ODD do tasks and keep on track, only complaint is the monthly cost. Wish it were free or easier to get the monthly set up. Also don’t like that gifted members receive a whole month free when I didn’t get but 2 and a half weeks free for my son using the app. Also needs the ability to schedule tasks for set times and to allow multiple times. Misleading

Multiple times I have been misled by their marketing! Ugh. The first one is that the free version only allows you to approve 7 chores per day, not many when using to get a kid to do basic things like brush teeth, go pre, wash face, eat meals, etc. It seems like the coach is included when the app is paid for but NOPE, that is another chunk of money. But you do not get told anywhere (maybe fine fine print somewhere along the line) that the coach is extra, it just seems to come with paying for it…should have known. There are free apps that you can use to reward your child, honestly nothing really special about joon. Wish I hadn’t paid for a years subscription.
