PERFECT APP
I don’t have a single piece of constructive criticism on this. I love it so much. Even though I’m using the off road version I find myself using the property ownership feature probably the most. I do a lot of rockhounding on the river so I like to use the trails to get there and the property feature to make sure I’m legal where I’m at. I recently had an issue (pretty sure it was my phone and not the app) and Kendall helped me fix it in literally 2 minutes. I’m a Montanan and fully support this Montana company. You guys killed it on this!

Can’t look at the map without constant pop-up ads trying to sell you a subscription.
Map/Plan Your Rides
Been using for a few years now, since 2021. All the little improvements and trail report features are pretty helpful. OnXOffroad still works on my iPhone SE 2nd gen, iOS 17.5.1 as of 7/29/26. (Don’t tell Tim I haven’t update my iOS plz) A minor inconvenience is on a rare occasion while recording a track, the track will not record a section and instead trace a straight line between where the interruption began and ended. Again, minor as it’s only occurred twice in the 114 tracks I’ve recorded. Idk if this is a bug or just bad luck when locking the phone to save battery. Another improvement that would be appreciated would be the ability to select multiple photos to attach to a waypoint instead of adding a single photo at a time. This has more to do with adding photos days after a ride when, for each photo, I have to scroll down through my photo roll and select the next one I want in sequence (while trying to remember the ones I’ve already selected 🙃)
Constant ads even when paid
This app does not offer anything special outside of giving you access to trail reviews from other drivers, which tend to not be very informative and mostly consist of pictures of their car Pop-up adds every time you open the app even if you paid for a subscription. Not to mention it only has support for vehicle trails Alltrails is a similar subscription price and has all of the same trails plus access to hiking trails and other points of interest $100 a year for the top tier subscription is completely ridiculous
Great app, just expensive
This app is amazing, I had a free trial I used on my trip to Utah. The only issue I have is price. My family does quite a bit of off-roading throughout the year, but not on a weekly basis like some people. Because the app is subscription based, it makes it expensive for normal or even semi-regular users. It would be a hassle to cancel and then upgrade your subscription every time you want to go trailing. I wish they had a permanent payment option, or at least make the subscription cheaper or making the free tier better.
Saved My Knife!
I’ve had my Benchmade Elishewitz knife for 36 years. I was out mushrooming and left it on the ground. Luckily I had waypointed that spot and OnX took me right to it the next day.

Useless when offline
I downloaded a HUGE area in low quality for offline map use. I mapped to my destination and it took me an hour deeper into the national forest than I wanted to go, then it wouldn’t let me reroute anywhere at all. I would select a spot, click “navigate” and nothing would happen. Then I closed the app and kept trying and although the button worked, it kept giving error messages (I don’t remember what they said, now) — it wouldn’t gps me anywhere at all even though I was well within the offline map I downloaded
Being charged after cancellation.
I cancelled this subscription during the trial and just today I was attempted be charged by you guys. And it doesn’t show active statue in my subscription tab in the App Store. Could someone please rectify this?

I was hoping to use this app to track some wildfires that are actively in progress in my area as onX was the first app to pop up when I was trying to find this information. But onX has decided to lock this very useful safety feature behind a paywall. Nice to know that this company values money more than people’s safety.

You broke something
Not sure what this last update did, but it’s about 40 degrees off in landscape mode. Portrait mode it functions fine, rotate to landscape mode and it doesn’t know which way it’s pointing. Have this on 3 different devices and they all behave this way, when before this was never an issue. Please fix.

This app makes my phone overheat. iPhone 13. Phone shuts down. No other app causes this. Even when using CarPlay and phone screen is off it’s still overheating. The turn by turn Nav is too delayed to be useful. Other than that it’s a good product.

I use this app pretty much exclusively when Offroad.
Trails are not matching MVUM’s.
You guys have so much terrain and trails marked as closed in my neighborhood it is a little ridiculous. Roads to trailheads with pit toilets marked as closed. Clearly marked through routes shown as closed. COUNTY ROADS shown as closed. But not being able to keep up with the FREE MVUM’s is just sloppy work. If my dad didn’t want to know the name of the property owners of every ranch in eastern M, I would delete it. As far as off roading goes, it’s useless. You will miss more than half of the trails.

Quickest cancellation ever
I purchased a premium subscription because the maps look a little nicer than Trails Off-road - but I cancelled my autorenewal just a few hours later. The offline maps are nearly worthless. Instead of being state by state, you have to download tiny areas and piece them together. The app is flooded with pop up tips that you can’t turn off. Go Away! The trail reports are very limited, and on a computer, they remain stuck in a skinny sidebar where they are hard to read.
It’s OK
The app is pretty ok at best, my sons and i’s app did not route the same. It would say 1.5 miles for me then my son would say turn around we missed the turn. So that was frustrating when in the back country. I also wish you could check off trails you completed.
Works great
Used it for the first time this weekend at the Ocala National Forest. Would be very lost without it. A definite MUST for going off road.
Extremely limited features
Without getting their paid memberships its basically just google maps i actually think i would get more info on google and maps than using this app
Great Exploration App
Fantastic layout and very user friendly. The support is awesome and the beginner and advanced master classes are great! Just wish there was better support for all features for Canada.
Used to be great
This app used to be incredible. It has some of the best map features out there. Now they are adding intrusive pop up advertisements EVEN IF YOU ARE A SUBSCRIBER. I pay for this app and I’m getting obtrusive, annoying ads. Just tasteless. And re: the developer response, these were straight up ads for additional services- not “new features” and I did report them to you. You just responded that there was no way to disable them. Please stop the marketing nonsense.
Good, but.....
overall, the app is good. It’s not great, but it’s good because there have been several times where I go to search for something that I found on Apple or Google maps and your search is unable to find it unless I go hover over that specific spot then your search can find it. oh, and the login thing what a flipping mess that is.
Don’t leave home without it!
Needed help upgrading to elite and changing payment method. Contacted OnX via telephone and they were very helpful and quick with solving my problem. Oh, and the app is awesome too.

“Wish List”
When you zoom in to see a trail number the number gets covered up by the trail image. Please put the number above or below, OR better yet, have the trail number get larger as you zoom in. Secondly, when you create a route and colour it “yellow” for example, when you download it and “navigate” the route colour turns to blue which is very confusing when you’re already amongst blue trails. Thank you
Map routing terrible
Half the time the app refuses to begin a route with a “something went wrong message”. Then if by some miracle it does work, the app suddenly starts into a rerouting loop. I cannot recommend this app for this reason.

For you to just cancel your subscription you gotta download a whole different app. Tried calling to cancel and I thought I did got charged anyway. Quite frustrated and disappointed. App itself does work good though

Keeps coming up short
Maybe I have a bad version of the app or something, but it keeps coming up disappointing. I tried to download off-line maps only wanted the Topo version so it doesn’t take up so much storage, but it would only download the satellite app. What the heck

Essential
This app is essential for dispersed camping information in additional to trail information. Their customer service is also exceptional. Both times I’ve reached out about problems I caused myself, they gave quick and efficient one-stop resolutions. I have never reviewed an app before, but I’ve also never considered an app this good, and important.
Don’t waste your money
Glitchey app. Trails only show up some of the time, other times you click it and it only shows national Forest. App worked perfectly fine then started glitching and will not fix itself. I contacted customer service and got a AI. Glad I figured this out before I was on the trails. Do not recommend this app to anyone especially for the price and AI customer service.

Useless app
The app is useless if you use the free version of it. You don’t get off road trails or a description of the trail. But paying a subscription for just that is stupid.
Payed version
The paid version is sooo good, it tells you who owns what areas, especially important for fishing and atv riding on specific public/private property!!
Charged for just downloading
I watched an add for this app. I installed it, noticed it was subscription based. So I uninstalled it. Noticed I was charged for simply downloading and deleting it. I’ll be disputing this.

Coupon code
Well, I got a coupon code emailed to me from onX offroad. I’m trying to use it but it does not work. And then I’m in Canada and I’m trying to pay and there is no Canadian choice. Just USA. Very complicated everything. So I’m on the website trying to find help. They have a robotic texting. But as it is giving me suggestions that have nothing to do with my situation.. I’m trying to email but it’s not giving me an email address. So I guess there’s no contact with these guys. They just want lots of money.

Not bad if you plan on creating your own maps in a region and you’re making them all. Can only import 4mb maps. Pretty disappointed for Canada.
