Won’t record practice
When I practice writing the symbol, I tap on the check mark and nothing happens. I reset and try again. I can never get the app to work.

It’s very simple and you can choose specific letters to learn it’s just not the best at learning for the first time but for review
Stop asking me to review
I just got the app! I will re-review once i have used it more. But it keeps interrupting me asking for a review when i dont even have an hours worth of use yet
Very good but buggy
The app has helped me to solidify my knowledge on the alphabets and i love how you can review and see your scores and progression. However with the writing activity the app constantly crashes and i cannot get through a full study. There is no way to contact them other than through X which is unfortunate. Overall great app just wish they would fix the bugs.

i really wish it would break down when you got it wrong the answer better, for example when you get the gyu’s and stuff with multiple letters it doesn’t tell you what they both mean, making it harder to learn
Recognition is faulty
Most of the 46 basic hiragana work, but literally everything else refuses to register. I’ve copied the stroke order, size, length, everything, but nothing works. It makes practicing a pain instead of enjoyable.
Probably a good app but annoying intro
I kid you not, immediately after the onboarding slides when I was inside the app for 0 seconds, it hit me with asking for a star rating. I closed that, ready to poke around, and on the bottom of the home screen there's constantly text cycling to beg for reviews (it's not even static so you can't ignore it. constant cycling). I'm pretty sure the app was made with love and it'll be great and stuff, but here's your dang rating – 2 stars off for leading with frustrating UX.
Simple, effective, and free
Very simple but very effective. I’d like an option where there is only an audio cue, without the English phonetics. I feel that this would help with connecting the kana and pronunciation directly instead of the usual kana-> English phonetics -> pronunciation and its reverse. Also, the drawing recognition AI seems to have “mo’s” stroke order recorded incorrectly? Following the guided order in the app receives no feedback, but placing the two horizontal lines first is accepted. That one’s pretty minor since you can mark it as correct or incorrect yourself anyway. Overall great app besides these very small nitpicks though.

It’s a great app for revising Hiragana, but maybe a bit too many options and buttons for complete beginners to navigate. I think starting with simple and allowing users to unlock more of the app a little deeper in might be friendlier.

C’est très bien pour apprendre les kana ect mais (a par si je ne sais pas l’utiliser) pour ce qui n’aime pas mémoriser en révisant a cause de problèmes de concentration ce n’est pas très pratique.

App Crashes on iPad OS 18.7.2
First off: Great app with a sound didactic concept. As a UX designer and language nerd I’m making extensive use of Kana, training semiotic recall and writing muscle memory. I’ve internalised the entire ひらがに set in a surprisingly short time frame, which is really helpful to progress with the Genki vol. 1 curriculum. I have noticed several times recently that the application tends to crash at random on iPad 18.7.2 in response to the normal, expected Apple Pencil Pro gesture input when writing any (!) kana. The crashes appear random; it’s not any specific gesture that causes this behaviour as the input field tolerates mock ‘sabotage’… as a techie myself I’m given towards experiments to rule out specific inputs, for instance a totally made-up kana like symbol. I’m using several apps that consume Pencil Pro gesture input such as Concepts (for wireframe sketching at a professional level), and they do not seem to be susceptible to this crash behaviour. Despite this, is it possible that the recent intro of the ‘glass’ UI (iPad OS 26 and up) stabilises Pencil gesture input? Note the crashes never happen on my iPhone install of the Kana app, i.e. with fingertip gesture input.
Smart quizzes are broken
In general the app is nice but it’s completely useless for the smart quizzes. Lowest streak ignore the actual lowest streak and only offers kana I already have in 50+ streaks. The score one is even more broken, if you have answered a kana only once and got it right it will never show up in the quiz again. On the other hand some kana you answered wrong once in 50 tries still show up nearly every time. Something is truly broken with the score smart quiz.
iPad vs iPhone
I really enjoy the writing feature where u have to draw it out when practicing yet there is no option on the iPad for this same feature. Using my is much more annoying than a pen which comes with the iPad and less accurate.

Great app but lists don’t save
I’ve saved a list and would like to add to it gradually as I learn more characters. However I don’t seem to be able to save the list and have to add them each time, otherwise the list just has the initial 20 kana I saved the first time.
Super useful app! However:
I’d love an option to sign in! I’m afraid to lose my data and i don’t think you can sync either The statistics are bugging for me. It only shows my stats from today no matter what setting I choose Keeps lagging and closing mid quiz That’s it!! Otherwise it’s super helpful and awesome, one of my fav apps for sure!

Teaches you a lot of different Hiragana and Katakana and gives you a list of letters to choose from to learn, I recommend writing the list of letters in a book and study them have a book pacifically for Japanese learning
Good app but buggy
There seems to be a problem with the quiz. Even if i only select katakana as options im always asked about hiragana
Great flow bug has bugs
I like the mechanics of the app but it is a bit buggy recognizing the kana. Mostly it won’t recognize the character but sometimes it’ll also recognize it as correct one stroke early.
writing practice not working properly
I have just started with this app and went straight to practicing Hiragana. While testing it, some kana will gets approve, while other kana’s no matter how much I try it does not get approved by the app, and there are other kana’s where it gets approved while only finishing one stroke and still a couple of strokes missing. I hope you can fix this problem.

Mix up, FIX AGAIN!!
Last time I wrote a review about how this app says JU is ヂュ when it’s actually じュ. I found one more error. The app says JA is ぢゃ when in the youtube video from a NATIVE speaker said it’s じゃ This is absolutely RIDICULOUS for a learning app

Some bugs
Current version seems to have bugs in Practice mode. Practice-->Customized-->Kana Type Selection doesn't always work. When I hit Next and started a Practice Quiz I had only selected basic katakana but got hiragana questions.
Bestest app ever please read
So glad I found this. I’ve always learned Japanese off and on cuz it was hard to keep doing Duolingo with all the ads and all the other ones woth ads or cost money but this is completely free no ads and it’s genuinely like just wants you to learn Japanese. I got their other apps one with a textbook and the other for kanji and man best thing ever. This is the furthest I’ve ever learned Japanese and I’m actually staying committed. You can go at your own pace to. So nice so easy. 100 percent recommend.

Great app to get started
Easy to understand and set your own testing groups to learn and revise. The pronouciation of each characters could be louder and more clear, but thats the only negative I see.
Problems recognising characters
The app is well made and has been effective for me but there is a pretty significant bug that would make me think twice before downloading the paid kanji sister-app in the future. I started with hiragana and it all worked well, apart from そ which I've never been able to get it to recognise. Now that I've started katakana almost every character is like this, even very simple characters like ノ. I'm certain this must be a bug; even in the free drawing mode the problem characters aren't even listed as a possible match.
