Really good overall. Simple but effective. But it would be great to create a playlist of ones you want to focus on you find hard for review.
I don’t like it.
It was kinda good when I first started but then on the drawing practices I would go to draw the right thing just a little wonky and then it would just automatically put the guideline on and not let me do it the different strokes in a different order. I got past the 2 lesson on the first level and then it wanted me to pay for the next lessons.
You have to pay for everything
Excellent way to learn, but you can only get through 2 sets (a total of 8 characters) before being told to pay for more. Was really disappointed with that, but it’s overall cheap.
100x Better than Duolingo
One of the best free language and writing apps for beginners in any foreign language. And one of the best free apps I’ve ever had. Progression is at the comprehensive input threshold throughout, uses spaced repetition. The hiragana writing training is brilliant. Not sure how they were able to capture accuracy scoring, but it’s perfect, just the right amount of correction without being glitchy or too strict. Uses a practical approach to vocabulary and grammar, appropriate for older students and adults. Bravo. Excellently done. Thank you.
This sucks
Every time I write the symbols, it tells me I’m wrong because I take my finger off or I don’t hit the dots exactly or I just write it in my own way it’s annoying and it needs to be fixed
I love this app!
Honestly, I wasn't expecting to like it but it is genuinely really good. I like how it makes you repeat the lesson over and over again, you can do reviewing too after the lessons and that just honestly is awesome. It’s not like Duolingo or other apps that make you wait, so if your impatient and just want to get to the point. This is the app. It will speak just to help you know how to pronounce the word or vowel, but yeah! It also helps you know how to write the characters, which just makes this much better. If you have phone, I would recommend writing the characters a few times in the way it shows you to trace, but otherwise, NO COMPLAINS!!!🗣🔥
Needs some work
This could be really good, but it needs a bit of work. Let users repeat the sound if they need it. Allow users to take off “equivalent” Latin letters which are often not equivalent and create confusion. I have to cover them up in order to learn ‘cause my native language uses different sounds for the Latin letters than the sounds being used as equivalent to the hiragana. My head was spinning until I covered them up. The writing is fun.
Not my learning style
This app expects me to remember the letters by heart without any guide by the first lesson, and I never remember and don’t come off using the app feeling like I’ve learned something.
Helps me so much
On Duolingo I would either use all my energy or watch a mountain of ads just to learn 1 symbol a day while this app could help me learn all the symbols in one day
Won’t restore purchase
I used this app for several years, however on my new device it would not restore my purchases. It’s very frustrating I contacted but got zero response.

It is disappointing because it is stuck in a lesson and it will not let me get through. I had to delete the app and reinstall and ALL of my progress is gone!

Fun game to learn
Lessons do not load
I paid to unlock all lessons, but multiple simply do not load (specifically all the odd lessons in level 3), no error message or anything just a blank screen. It’s a decent app that I keep in rotation but I am not getting what I paid for which is frustrating. (Yes the app is updated, I’ve restarted everything, etc.)

It’s good but..
If you are looking for something free this is not it. You have to pay to continue with more lessons. The first 2 are free. Then they want you to pay. It does show a lot of information though! So if you are ok with spending money then I’d definitely give this a try. Me personally I’m just not willing to pay for it 🤷♀️ there’s free ones out there.

It got me engrossed but then made me pay
I think the concept of this app is very well made but very cheeky when it comes to money. I was doing well in the 1st and 2nd lesson UNTILL it told me lesson 3 i had to pay for. Its very cheeky that the get you engaged in the lessons and then asks you to pay to carry on. I don not appreciate apps like this. Overall its a good app if you want to pay £13 to learn a language you could learn for free on duolingo (i dont like duolingo) i think this is a very dumb app and i would not recommend EVER. Thank you.

I did some characters perfectly great and it makes me redo it. It kept erasing my drawing even though I was following the steps. Fix this bug, now.
Excellent but I need a different thing
I tried for a while and it’s not really clear if there is any kanji writing activity. It’s an excellent app for who is a total beginner but I need more Kanji writing atm.

Best Japanese app out there!
I’ve only been using the app for a short time now, but I’m very impressed with it already! The lessons are short and simple, but really do help you memorise all the characters. Unfortunately, there is a problem where some characters don’t register as well as others. This doesn’t happen much in earlier lessons, (aside from す, お and ち) but lesson 9 is abysmal, to put it bluntly. ふ is definitely the worst of them all, but は and ほ are also troublesome. It doesn’t impact the experience too much - it only really makes the hiragana chart disappointing to look at. Despite this, I still recommend the app!! Definitely one of the best Japanese learning apps out there.
Looks great, but crashes after a few characters
Been on the lookout for a decent app to learn hiragana. After reading some of the reviews, gave this one a go, and immediately liked the layout and the fact that it works with the Apple Pen. Let's face it, we are not going to write with our fingers! Of course, I have no pretentions of authoring the next best seller in Japanese. That said, I'd like to be able to read notices, shop labels and the like. Anyway, if there is a way of getting the app to work - without crashing - I'd love to hear about it.

Great App to learn anywhere
I pull out my phone and study when I’m in line or on hold, on a bus, or waiting for an appointment. It’s easy to make use of otherwise wasted minutes with this Japanese language app.

Great app, but some of the katakana is incorrect, which as this is the reason for using the app is pretty inexcusable, so 1* until it is corrected

I highly recommend this app. Recently downloaded it and it’s amazing. However, if you have a bad memory I would recommend getting a notebook for remembering the alphabet and words.
not really good for writing practice
very often anything you write is considered a pass, like even a scribble done by mistake. other times anything you write is considered wrong and you are immediately shown a hint. moreover, the app cannot mimic a spaced recognition making all reviews tedious and not fully productive. I have paid for the first part of the app (hiragana practice) and I will not go back to katakana or any other bits of the app. what a waste of time.

I’ve been using this app alongside the Genki textbooks for a little over a year. I like how minimal the app is and it’s great for reviewing. It’s like playing a game.

Great way to learn, small bugs when writing
I have been using this app for 2 weeks and I’m finding it really fun and easy to learn! There a few small bugs when writing や、と、and す which if your happy with it to tell you that your wrong, even when you have identified and written it as well as you can with you finger instead of a pen, then it great (it does bug me that my chart isn’t fully green though). Speaking of the chart, it’s great that it tracks what you are strong at and what you still need to practice, and making those the main focus in the ‘review past due’. Other than the small bugs it’s been a great learning app so far and I’m starting to identify letters and word which is making me excited to keep learning the language!!!
Needs improvement of the writing part
Every time I try to write it gives me the hint and I can’t write in my own order.

Love the learning programs. It’s very very good. I dislike the translation program that comes with it simply because copying and pasting a message once translated is virtually impossible. I repeat that the learning program is very good though. It really helps to memorize and visualize.
