Surprised
I didn’t expect to like this so much but it’s wonderful. The N5 articles I’ve read so far are all super short, so not overwhelming even though I’m not a great Japanese reader yet. I love that there is a feature for me to practice translating and that it is so easy to look up the words directly in the app and review them later as flash cards. I work with a tutor and normally we just talk about what we did over the last week. I’m looking forward to being able to talk about something a little more varied like current events :)

Really sucks that every article seems to be written and/or extended by AI. Used to love this app but I just can’t trust what I’m reading anymore.

本身從舊版一直用到今年的新版，舊版比較不會有頁面點選點不到的問題，且舊版用手機可以翻轉頁面閱讀，但到了新版卻不行，可以把這個舊版較人性化的功能再加回來嗎？ 發音用新的人聲常會有唸的跟文字不一樣的情況，建議用回原本的就不錯。

Translate slow or won't load
The free version never had these slow latency issues . Once I purchase paid version this has become painfully slow or won't load at all . App is great but the fact I cannot transalte articles is a bit frustrating.

通勤好工具
整體程式都很不錯，一天有三篇可以唸，足以利用勤時間多唸些日文，文章也都滿有趣的，建議大家把唸過的文章按愛心存起來，有時候會閃退，這樣不怕找不到文章 我目前覺得最大的問題是app內大部分文章太過仰賴AI導讀，導致部分唸法出錯，單一單字點選翻譯也有誤差，這點對於剛接觸日文的人來說會造成困擾

Flawed
I paid to get the tomo chat. It does not teach you how to speak Japanese but more importantly it really does not recognize what you’re saying. It makes up entire sentences. The speech recognition is severely flawed in my version. The lessons also can be hard to follow. You basically have to know Japanese to follow the lessons.
Great app for learning Japanese.
Easy to use and straightforward. Great also for the short bursts to study when time is short as well. Would recommend.
Developers, what have you done?
It was such a good app… It used to list news from actual Japanese journals. Now it seems just random stuff. Someone in the reviews thinks the articles are AI generated, and I am starting to think the same. It can’t even translate the words properly anymore. And now the limit of daily articles is so strict, I cannot enjoy this app anymore.

如題，目前在n5單字庫只看了前三頁就已經出現三個上述的錯誤了，有一定日文基礎的人可能可以看出錯誤自己改正，但如果是對於完全沒基礎的初學者來說很容易被誤導 免費新聞文章不錯，但初學者請斟酌

Insulting Messages
Use the app occasionally, besides the paywall it’s pretty helpful but I got a notification today that said “giving up already?”. Not particularly offended, many apps do this, but it’s a kind of unprofessionalism and desperation that I really don’t appreciate, so had to give a review. I don’t need to hear that when i’m literally in the middle of studying japanese. There are also other apps that give the same service but don’t spam your phone with insults if you don’t use them for a few days. If you get this app make sure to turn notifications off, because they’ll be rude and/or overwhelming (like 30 a day)
Easy grammar
There is a lot grammar you can learn from highlight your cursor on text you don’t know. Vocabulary all to reading.

昨天買永遠的版本，今早app一直說找不到網絡稍後再試，已經連接WiFi和行動數據都用不上，刪了app再重新安裝試試登入但登入不到，可不可以處理一下？
AI Art…? And some mistakes.
I noticed there was an update that changed the character names of the Conversation and Grammar stories, and it seems that AI art is now being used. Even in the sample images here in the app store, it shows the old art style. There used to even be video clips from the Conversation lessons, so that’s upsetting that all of that went away… Aside from that though, I noticed in some examples, the Japanese writing does not match up with the Romaji. Like “鈴木(Suzuki)” says “Tanaka” in romaji. Also there is audio you can click on, but sometimes doesn’t match the text, or it doesn’t play at all. As someone who is very committed to Japanese language learning, I do hope these problems can be resolved!

I love the app. Tomo no nikki articles are very interesting and super useful for learning all the basic kanji! Please keep them coming more often please.
Inconsistent text selection makes the app almost unusable
The app has nice features that other apps do not. However, the most basic feature of “text selection with translation” does not work consistently and the only fix is to restart the app or keep trying until it suddenly works properly. It’s a very frustrating experience and I would not recommend this app until it is fixed.

What is old premium?
I purchased a lifetime premium account in 2024, I loved the app at that time. I could read various articles and look at underlined vocab. great. Today however I checked the app after a while, and I have AI ads everywhere and no clear indication that I have paid, other than the crown on my icon. It seems that I can read more than three articles, and I have not seen additional ads, so I assume I still have those benefits. I don't want to use any AI stuff. I just want the articles and underlined words. Im so disappointed that the app changed in to this. As someone who paid, please let me hide the huge buttons for AI features I do not want or need. also some unrelated feedback: dark mode does not stay on, no matter how many times I change it. I had to make it dark mode, instantly close the app and now it stays dark... so check the settings menu for bugs.

Quality of the app has dropped
Recent updates has resulted in poorer translations, user experience in trying to translate/highlight certain words when reading articles. Translations are also not accurate, often citing extra hiragana that isn’t even there.pretty sure they are using AI to generate the articles.
Getting improved.
Instead of clicking the X button to close a window, it’s easier to just swipe up, down, left, or right.

Too much ads, article limits are buggy
Ads are a bit intrusive especially after the latest update. Every article even when revisiting the old one always prompts a video commercial. Advertisements are totally understandable for your revenue stream but this is too much. Revisiting previously read articles also count towards the article limits....
Good but there's bug or something?
It is quite user-friendly and all. Only concern is that since weeks ago, I can't view any articles EVEN after re-downloading. I'm sure I wrote a feedback/ review before on it but nothing has been done hence I'm trying to write a review here now. Will give a 5 when the problem is fixed. Because it is really irritating when I want to read YET i have to re-download it just to read the articles. Other than that it's good to be honest. Thank you in advance
