Love Discovery Bank
Great service!!
Robber Treatment of Customers
Discovery is clearly an insurance company turned bank. The constant bombardment with messages and slightly pushy call-center telemarketing style pushy followups is very irritating and definitely not the treatment I would like to receive any longer. I will keep my account but limit interactions to the absolute minimum.
User friendly
It's easy to navigate the platform and I love the payment reminders.
Always been logged out
Why
Cash send
Cash send option is difficult to reach now does it work not payshap sending money to someone with no discovery account or bank account straight
Love the app!
Amazing discovery app!
Pop ups
Stop popping up review requests all the time
Data
Doesn’t when you don’t have data - very inconvenient and
Limited country code support
Would like to sign up but my Dutch cell number(+31) is not accepted 🤦♂️
It’s okay
It’s nice, but not 5 star. I have had issues logging in before and there is nothing I can do to get around this or do any banking on the web. the UX is better than most banks but still not world class. I’m also not sure when I should use the banking app vs insurance vs standard discover app.
Mr
App is damn fast.. the switch between woolies payment and the verification is just smooth… might be my phone yeah
Data
The app must work when I dnt have data please
User friendly app
Easy to use app and to access all information and make payments
Average app
Overall the app is ok. However, it still needs some work. It is slow and not very responsive. For the entire banking experience to happen through the application, it should be faster and more responsive. There is a bug in the financial analyser, where foreign transactions are added as the same numerical value but in Rands. For example, €5 is added as R5, which is annoying to go back and correct. Dark mode would be a nice addition.
Greatest bank alive!!
Free iwatch and getting my goals to fund it 😎Getting tons of discovery miles back from healthy food .. exercise and I stay fit win win. Pays for most of my groceries or you can monetise and add to savings account. 😎
Gym workouts
My gym workouts are not reflecting now lost my streak
💵
Love the app. Just need an option to select multiple beneficiaries to pay.
This app is pretty mid ngl
As a bank they’re fine. I have no complaints, the app is fine too. Kind feels like the bare minimum in every respect. Not especially well designed or poorly designed. Comparing it to actually well designed apps like revolut it starts feeling less fine but whatever.
Mr
Very easy to use and straight forward
Excessive prompts
Can you stop asking us to rate- I already did but you keep prompting. Its actually irritating now
Top neobank
Big fan of discovery bank since it launched. Things I like: Easy equities integration. Fx bank accounts that allow me to convert, send and spend in pounds. The cheapest pay as you transact account is more competitive on a cost basis than one might have initially thought. Apple pay, Google wallet. Financial analyser of your spend is really useful. Good savings account options Really nice colour palette and decent app that will hopefully improve and refine with time. The bank account confirmation letters, statements and proof of payment docs are all really lovely, professional looking documents that you can feel proud to send out when necessary. It also makes the app a nice place to be. Things I don't like: No in app chat with support staff. Eft fees between discovery clients shouldn't be the same as sending to other banks Certain other fees, like those to send money overseas could be more reasonable, given the low cost nature of a branchless neobank. Misleading rewards. After using the rewards stack feature on their site to see what I could get back on my spend based on my vitality money level, it advised that I would get rewards from Woolworths as well as fuel rewards and flights if I got the discovery credit card. I got it, used it for a few months, only for the Woolworths and pick n pay options to be unavailable for my banking product on the app. When raised with support staff via twitter, they did confirm that the rewards stack calculator was wrong and that I needed to have vitality in order to get food rewards with the credit card, even though the calculator allowed me to explicitly state that I don't have vitality and still said I would get rewards with Woolies etc. Discovery's rewards are often not worth the hassle. Paying high fees up front for credit cards or full banking suites to be eligible for rewards, only to find you then need to sign up for other products with chunky fees like vitality, and then spend over a certain amount every month and achieve other targets before you reach a reward that even comes close to netting off against the fees you paid already just doesn't seem worth it. For some it may be worth it, but I found the practice of handing money over up front and then having to spend loads and jump through other hoops every month just to make your money back from the fees alone, nevermind actually get more than you paid in fees, to be not worth it. Good business model for discovery. Receive cash up front and maybe pay out a bit later. Good for business, not so good for the average consumer in SA. My personal opinion? Stick to the cheapest, no frills no fuss pay- as-you- transact account on the white/gold colour (R10 monthly fee at time of writing), enjoy the really good apple pay feature, use the useful spend analysis tool, virtual cards and good savings account, as well as the easy equities tool. If you need an fx account then you can still open one and pay as you use it. Otherwise, you'll have everything you need for banking in SA.
Good start
The "session has expired" notifications are really annoying and their usefulness is confusing. There is also no 'back swipe' iOS functionality and instead you have to press the back button on top each screen. Otherwise, there are occasional hiccups, especially on the log in screen but not bad as a start.
User friendly
I am enjoying navigating this app. So much to explore and learn
Passwords
Every single time, which is all the time, when the app is updated the password doesn't work anymore. To make a new password you need a nuclear encryption code. Sick of it.
Really happy - just missing one thing
I am really happy with Discovery bank app. It allows me to do everything with ease and great savings. The incentive goals and rewards are really worthwhile if you work at it. I love the 20% discount for purchasing prepaid electricity and water. The only thing missing for me is the functionality to allow for budgeting purposes. I previously used the 22seven app which makes tracking and budgeting so easy. This integrates so easily with most banks to consolidate spending. But not Discovery bank. This is really sad - budgeting is such an important part of good financial management - and to limit ability to do that is quite disappointing.
Permissions
This app seems to need permission to access your contacts - this should be optional, the bank has no business accessing my contacts. It also needs access to location, it says to prevent fraud. No other banking app I have requires location. Discovery already knows a lot about you, this is too much
Amazing Bank
The bank that teachers you healthy banking
Such a buggy app
So many broken loops on this app. I remember when the Discovery experience was well thought out and well designed. Le sigh.
The best bank on my side
The best on my side
Font Size is unreadable
They have used fonts on the screen for the main navigation functions that are so small they are unreadable. Also they don’t honour the IOS font size. Make the app a completely frustrating experience.
Best benefits
Discovery bank is great if you know how to take advantage of the benefits and discounts they offer, like gym discounts via discovery vitality to name one. Very much worth it you’re into healthy living and want to save at the same time.
I had to wait for 5 days for my fixed saving to be released to my account.
That has really inconvenienced me a lot. And I feel it’s a total disrespect to disregard the terms and date agreed upon. Not cool at all
Best secure Mordern banking app
Best app ever.
Difficult to use, too complicated
The discovery suite of apps are confusing and complicated. Starting with login, it doesnt autofill passwords and my Face ID doesn’t work like it should. It’s also slow partly because the app has an in-app updating thing. I struggle to set up a budget, because I haven’t used the bank so it fails with R0 and asks for a subcategory budget. The notifications aren’t easy to clear in bulk and can’t unsubscribe from. I heard people just leave them unread. The interplay between the Discovery app, discovery health and discovery bank is confusing and the slow authentication causes friction.
