I wish we could give it zero
I’ve used this app for years. Bought dozens of filters and lenses. But of course now I’m stuck having to pay a subscription for filters I’ve already paid for. The subscription model used to bleed out users is awful. Own nothing, pay forever.
Stole my gears
I used to love Hipstamatic so much I spent money on gears. After a few years break on Android without that app, I am back to iPhone. And despite of owning the gear, they now force me to go on subscription to access to them. What an inconsiderate move towards their pioneer users. It is a pity such great app betrays you, just because they can. : / Wonder if you will do something about i, but my hope is near zero as I saw another user say the same thing. 4 stars because your app is great and deserves support for all your good work. But my mood wants to rate 1 star at the moment.
Viewfinder
I have had this app for quite some time, but for whatever reason recently, I’m not able to change the viewfinder. I don’t wanna see the old analog look. I wanna be able to use my full screen. How do I change that?
Sudden full of glitches
I’ve used this app since it came out but suddenly it’s having awful glitches and won’t let me download any of my purchased paks.

I’m done with Hipstamatic
I have been using Hipstamatic for years. When I changed to my most recent phone I somehow lost a lot of my film and lenses I have purchased over the years. Basically when I go to download it asks me to pay… again. I have contacted them multiple times about this. I have done what they asked and nothing happened. I am tired of trying to get their attention so it is time I move on. But it sucks because I really loved using it. If I could give zero stars I would. Highly disappointed in you and your lack of proper help. UPDATE: someone got back to me but not the help I wanted. I don’t want to go to the new version. I want all my gear I PURCHASED to be back on the classic version. It’s more user friendly and easier to navigate. No change to the rating.
I love it but…
I love the different types of cameras I took some pictures but I can’t use much because I have to pay for like all of them but good app
Doesn’t focus
Won’t sync with new phones. I have tried over and over to het the Hipstamatic classic app to work with a newer iPhone and it will not focus or ender light metering correctly. After researching this and trying support for an answer I asked on AI. It says that Apple drastically changed its camera and focal length in the iPhone 13 and in order to get sharp images with closeups you need an iPhone12. I will buy one to try. Anyone else have the same focus issues and if so how did u solve it?
Good use some improvements
I had the old app and just updated to the new one. What I don’t like about this app compared to the classic is that it’s more difficult to locate films, lenses, flashes, cases etc. I liked the old format where you could just easily change your options with one swipe and scroll through & select your gear while having the camera open. I also wish it was easier to upload a profile picture instead having to go through the contacts option on your phone and updating your contact poster etc…

It’s perfect for taking pictures probably better than the regular camera it works so great probably one of the best apps
Wow another subscription take over
Used to love this app for being able to use it when I want and have used it since it was launched. So now it all ends with everything hidden behind a subscription paywall.
Still one of my favorite apps
Been using Hipstamatic to stay present in my life while still getting photos I’ll enjoy later. I just wish it was updated to reflect the 5x optical zoom on iPhone 16pro Max models. (Right now the 2x uses the 5x zoom and there’s nothing in between)
Nonfunction
This is been for years, one of my favorite camera app, but for some reason a couple of months ago it’s not working and you cannot see across this camera. You only see black or dark and it’s not taking many pictures.
Too clunky
I'm an original buyer..lifetime. Haven't like ur new upgrade foe years. I used to be able to pick me looks and run thru them fast, taking the same photo with different filters. Now I can only take nine, and I have to pick one, THEN click onrpe 'use this camera,' EVERY TIME before moving on to the next one. Here's what I want.....let me make my fav cameras/filters again that I can just click on, take a shot, move on to my next camera/filter. PERIOD. What would even be better??? Let me pick 10-20 cameras/filters, Take one shot, and have that image taken with all those cameras/filters. I do this manually now and it's a PITA. This used to be such a great app before you decided that being a camera app wasn't ur first priority. I have purchased 98% of everything, since the beginning and still use Classic. Love that app. Loved the older version of this app. Have never liked this new version.
Single best camera app
This is the app to get if you want that analog camera in your pocket feel. the vintage vibes are there and the camera app always keeps you coming back for more with different films, flashes, lenses and more. I’ve come back to this app time and again over the years. Great stuff! All the other apps I’ve either forgotten or deleted because they didn’t make the cut. I think this is probably the 15th year I’ve been using this app.

I love this app and just resubscribed but it’s not allowing me to change my profile photo. It keeps crashing over and over again. Please fix this. I’ll change my rating to 5 stars once fixed. Thank you!! ❤️🙏

I love this app. The only problem is when I delete a photo it closes the app.
I’m done
Sorry people, but the redesign made an already buggy and clumsy app worse. Scrolling through community photos, it suddenly glitched back to the top of the feed, losing my place. The new editor adds steps to editing. And the camera itself, which needs the most attention, still stinks. I was on the fence with canceling my subscription, but now I have no doubt. Will miss it, some of it.
fine, but disappointing
any time a wonderful app moves to a subscription model it breaks my heart a little. feels like the heart is gone and it's when it's officially about the money.
Favorite camera app of all time… not even an exaggeration
… yeah. Haven’t had a single issue with this app actually and I stumbled upon it 3 years ago… game changer. Taking photos suddenly became a completely different experience.
What in the dumpster fire
Happened to this app? This update is TRASH. The camera bag is absolutely useless, you can’t find anything without having to scroll a ridiculous amount, and even then you’re lucky if you find what you’re looking for. I’ve been using this app since the original, and these are some of the worst updates. These aren’t improvements.
Confusing
Title says it all in how I feel about this app. I have used the original Hipstamatic for many years (on and off). I totally understood how the app worked and definitely cranked out some amazing shots. This new app - i don’t get it. I don’t get these presets or how to switch out lenses and films. I’m not even sure if I’m still on a free trial and can I get out of it. In short I’d rather stick to the old app. I grew up with SLRs and later a DSLR - totally understanding concepts of photography. I’m not criticizing this app - I just don’t get it! I see others love it
Nothing more frustrating than the app crashing when editing with darkroom
This update is faulty, feel like I don't want to return to it to edit a photo.

I’ve had the app almost since It launched. It’s allowed me to create some of the most beautiful and creative photos I could never have realized with any post shoot software. Thank you Hipstamatic and the photographers that support the app.
FORCED TO SUBSCRIBE
I had the previous Hipstamatic, Classic account before they went to subscription based service. When they went to subscription based service, I lost all my purchases, all the money invest invested into all the film, flashes, packs, all gone. Contacted and reached out to Hipstamatic by email 300 times, did not hear one response back. Subscription based is the future, picking your pocket monthly. I’m not hating on it, you just gotta flow with what it is.
Almost perfect!
Great effects, the application is fun but: - No 48mp - No png or tiff
Recent major update renders it useless for me
I only ever shoot in Raw and since the update I can no longer upload . Support have acknowledged the bug but are seemingly very slow in solving the problem . I have deleted the app and basically have wasted my money on the years subscription.

used hipstamatic from the beginning when instagram was an app for photo sharing and not ad space.. this app delivers the same great film combinations as the classic app, but for goodness sake do we need to have notifications to come back to the app??? turning off notifs because this is ridiculous

I was a huge fan of Hipstamatic since day one. I supported their efforts with buying most of the lenses and films throughout the last 15 years, even some of the ones that appeared redundant and some that turned out as lame as I thought they might. It was too much really, and became a convoluted mess to sort through with too many options. I will never pay a subscription fee for a camera app on my phone, so this version gets an automatic delete. No more subscriptions, for anything.
Great except for one major flaw
Please give us the option to delete or remove films from the random camera! There’s nothing worse than snapping a bunch of pics only to discover they’ve all got “happy holidays” plastered across them. Other than that it’s simply the best retro camera app out there.
Crashes
Hey Hipsta Sort out your crashes! I’ve just renewed my membership and it’s constantly crashing. Loses my edits! Never saves them or even that I can’t save a particular easy auto style. I’m losing interest in this app. I might ask for a refund.

I waste the time of payment for the apps. I hate to paying for the apps. Pay for a month!

Bait and switch.
App says it’s free and then after giving it the permissions it needs to be used it then informs you that you have to pay a subscription to use the app. They’ll give you a 24hr pass and then after that they expect you to pay. More and more apps are starting to do this and it’s getting really old. Just like every other app that does this I immediately deleted it and will never use it again.
Sticking my neck out
Ok, some folks may feel I’m a fool but I’m going to say it anyways: I’m really enjoying this interface for actually finding good combinations. With the Hipstamatic Classic, although much more robust in a granular sense for editing photos (editing as in proper editing: brightness, blackooint, contrast etc and cropping), I did find it super slow and cumbersome to search through my lenses and films and find good combos. This X UI has a much quicker method of selecting gear and is easier to see the film and lens effect as you go. Using the gear selection screens or the catalog (surprisingly helpful and fast, the way I primarily search and select items) was much faster and less painful “editing” than classic. Overall it’s Hipstamatic and all it’s gear, simplified and enjoyable UI for more “in the moment” photo taking. All my gear transferred over no problem and I also bit the bullet and got the opening week lifetime subscription as I want to support their hard work (buggy and messy at times throughout their app history lol) and also I only had about half their entire gear library and wanted it all now and going forward. One thought: club members should be able to unlock the granular editing if desired and if not then backward compatibility of gear from X to classic would be appreciated. I’d love to be able to edit my Mirrorless SLR high resolution photos with Hipstamatic gear.
It hardly matters how good the app is...
...because the new business model is greedy, greedy, greedy. So, it imports all the stuff I’ve already paid for from the classic app. Big whoop, when it then wants £23 a year or a £200 one-off payment. (The grandfather offer seems to have gone for decade-long users who didn’t spot the new app quickly enough). So...no. The devs are absolutely entitled to make a living. But not to take the p**s with long-standing customers who have already spent plenty of money with them over the years. I can make novelty photos with many other apps thanks.

Was excited about this app but feel that the Devs have now lost interest, no updates for a while.

I’ve been using this app since the beginning and enjoyed it, bought lenses and film, and told many people about how great it was. Took a break and come back to a message of now I need to pay a subscription. I understand to need for money to operate. But this feels cheap and dirty. I’ll miss it. Thanks for the memories while they lasted.
Easy to use - needs some tweaks but a promising start
Hipstamatic is the stand out camera app on my iPhone but the scale of films / filters etc was getting a bit out of hand. I spent far too long fiddling about looking for appropriate effects The advantage with this app is that it has an easy to use auto mode, where the app selects an appropriate effect for a photo you take from the app. If you want a different effect, there is an edit mode where you can easily choose an alternative. I’ve spent a few quid over the years on the original Hipstamatic app, so decided to splash out on the Lifetime membership special deal offer £24 that apparently guarantees future paks and stuff. In the current version of the app, there doesn’t seem to be a facility of picking a photo from your library. Also you can’t use your Hipstamatic X Lifetime membership to unlock all the filters and effects on the original app. I contacted the support people who confirmed there would be updates on the feedback they’ve had since the HX app launched. And likely it would include the functionality to edit from the camera roll and they’d be looking at extending membership benefits to the original app. Whilst not perfect, it’s a promising start and the support people do listen to feedback and work hard to give customers what they want. That’s what made the original app so popular. So it’s a 4 star review for now (the output is fantastic) and likely to be 5 if they improve the functionality
So.....
Seems my Hipstamatic gear transfers to this new app. Good. But I have to pay (whichever model) to use them. Bad. “Don’t edit. Just Shoot” so no editing facility. Bad. As a ‘special deal’ I can pay £29 to use the gear I’ve already bought. Really?! If you take a picture you can ‘edit’ with what seems to be previous purchases. Does this mean no need for subscription? What’s the thing about camera cases? Do people really swap cases? In pro mode you never see them anyway. There are some nice touches to the interface.
Useless without the subscription
So with the most recent upgrade the lifetime subscription is now £54.99. No longer a discount for classic users, instead we can get 3 months free then 6 months at £9.99 - yet the monthly price is £4.49 so really we’re paying extra for the benefit of a free trial? I’ll stick to classic - even if half my packs have disappeared...
simple and refreshing
I am absolutely amazed with the capabilities of this hipstamatic cam app. I love that I can just pick up and shoot on the app and create such rich photos with their filters and overlays! Another feature that I absolutely adore is the community on here. It reminds me of pre meta Instagram where people shared raw point and shoot moments and truly the community on this feature brings that back and I am in love with that. I also have fun with the passports and stamp features of this as it invites users to explore cities to get their stamp which makes it really great for motivating exploration as well :) Overall I have fun with this all from a technical and also just leisurely standpoint and I look forward to seeing this app grow :)
Not a good app
I bought this app when it first came out it had a ability to add filters to your photos beautiful filters then they took it away. Wasted money
It’s good but I don’t know why!
I have used Hipstamatic from the start and love it, bought all the films & lenses. I don’t really understand why this app even exists. It seems it’s lost the idea of point n shoot, in Hipstamatic you choose a film & lens then shoot simple and it works. The new X version you have to choose a body, scroll through a catalogue (with text you can’t even read because it’s white text on a light background) for your film and do the same for your lens, you then have to save it with a custom name, all that before you can use it. So basically you are creating custom cameras every time you want to change a film or your lens. The Subscription! £200 really? This is where you have failed your loyal uses. You have survived 10 years without having to do this. Yes I was given the option to get a lifetime subscription for £29 so I jump at it because I wasn’t going to pay £200 for it. I will probably take more shots with the original app than this. I do think your time would have better been spent rewriting the code for the original app than creating a new app.
Hmmmmmm
Just proves that in app purchases are the equivalent of chucking money down the drain. £199 for what now? If they discontinue the classic version I’ll be petitioning Apple for my money back that I’ve spent over the years buying new lenses. Also don’t forget folks, as this is a now a subscription based model so you don’t own anything and will become useless the minute you stop paying. Aside from that. The app has a better design than the old one but doesn’t offer much customisation. Haven’t figured out how to change just the film or the lens, only offers the change of camera.
Missing features from the original hipstamatic
I took advantage of the lifetime membership being a hipstamatic user since it came to be. It was my go to camera. One thing missing from this new and improved is the ability to do double exposures. The original hipstamatic has the slider on the top left of the camera back that you could use to take a double exposure. The other thing I find frustrating is the new releases of lenses and films are buried in all the lenses and films so you have to create a new camera and then scroll through each lens and film to find the new releases.
