Not what I expected
It does allow you more control over the camera than the native app and I love that guy can play with the ISO and the shutter speed but the images that produces have way too much noise, specially on low light, to the point that are only useful for cellphone screen and without cropping too much or the noise will be unbearable. It has a lot of potential but these things need to be fixed first
Doesnāt open from the lock-screen
Very often the app would not open from the lock-screen using action button or the circle widget. Itās really frustrating, especially if I need to capture something quickly. Love the process zero mode, but I would reallllly like the overall responsiveness to be improved.
Halide keeps getting better!
The ability to choose and tune even the Apple picture profile is appreciated. The film simulation is really nice, with the various options and ability to tweak settings independently. Not sure if it is available already, but saving my own presets alongside the defaults would make our experience even better.
major glitch, deletes photos
it doesn't matter how good the app is when it will randomly delete photos from your once in a life time trip. you can take photos but sometimes they vanish after a few seconds. This glitch is intermittent and strikes when you forget to keep double checking... sad
Pinch to zoom
My only complaint is the zoom mode isnāt fluid so sometimes you have to choose between too far or too close
When it works, itās great.
The app worked great for a couple months maybe but it logged me out & locked me out of the app even after installing & reinstalling. Iām currently subscribed but canāt restore purchase. Prior to this I kept having to restore photos & lost plenty. If you add it to your lock screen, it doesnāt keep those photos unless you unlock your phone and open the app right after. Sort of defeats the point of having it as the lock screen shortcut. Great app but long way until it can replace the actual camera app.
Always underexposed
I really like the Chroma Noir filter. The grain is very pleasing. However the photos come always out much darker than shown on screen. Itās just too much work to adjust every photo. This seems a defect. Hope it is fixed as right now wonāt purchase. Also, would love it to be able to adjust the grain.
Starting out well enough
I know nothing about photography. This app has so far taught me as much as I could possibly have wanted to know in the few weeks I have had it. Genuinely might build a hobby because of this app and its teaching materials.
Definitely not worth it.
Hope it had a trial option to test before buying. I trusted some reviews and paid for a year subscription. Not up to par with Leica app or even the native iphone camera once you learn the proper settings.
Fabulous, willing to stay around
Genuinely miles above the regular photo app. Not only do the pictures look better right out the bat, but they are much easier to edit properly. My main issue is sometimes when you open it it lags to the point you need to force close it and reopen to get the camera to display. i also have no interest in the 3 version. otherwise. perfect. minimal, love it.
Critical bugs
I have not had a smooth experience with any major version of this app, mark ii or mark iii. Both were ridden with bugs and bugs which were not forgivable and damaged confidence in capturing moments. The latest version STILL has a bug that causes the first capture to be completely lost, which is likely a moment you wanted to capture right after opening the app. I canāt think of a bug much worse than that. To have it still exist is unacceptable. Will never pay for any version of this app again.
good but can't capture quickly
photos look really nice, but I have an issue where any pictures i take within the first 10-20 seconds of opening the app don't get saved. A lot of times you have to quickly open the camera to capture something and i've missed/lost a lot of good photos because they just don't take
I absolutely love the photos from this app
Iām so glad that I found this app because I really do love the pics that I get from it. My only notes would be that it can be slow sometimes and I miss moments. And on occasion it will really get behind while trying to process and gives me errors which can really make me miss a moment. 4.5 stars out of 5.

Buggy
Very buggy since āupgradeā
I will preface this by saying that I have been a longtime fan of the zero process photos taken by Halide, as an alternative to my standard iPhone camera. However, Iāve been disappointed since the 3.0 upgrade, as it has been nothing but buggy. It crashes on opening, I sometimes get a black screen in the camera view, and I find that the quality of photos just is not as good as they used to be (much noisier and less consistent focus accuracy), including the macro setting. It makes for a very frustrating user experience. I hope these issues can be fixed, and that I can return to liking the app. Iāve been less inclined to use it since the āupgrade.ā This is the first time Iāve actually written an app review, but I wanted to make sure the developers get this feedback.
Rebirth of the IPhone Camera
Thereās a reason people are fetching out their iPhones from a decade ago in order to take photos to plaster all over social media. There was something charming, maybe even magical about the photos we could take on them. Raw images with visible grain that didnāt only capture moments, but their essence as well. This magic still exists, and it lives in Halide. Halide will reinvigorate your love for your iPhone. It gives you that same charm, but elevated. Beautiful images that donāt come out of the other end looking completely foreign to what you were seeing on your screen before you snapped the image. An intuitive editing system that makes every picture you take look phenomenal and professional. It completely eliminates the need to seek out tons of vintage alternatives, the camera on your phone is once again functional. You will be EXCITED to take pictures, and find yourself itching to capture even the mundane for an excuse to open this app up. Canāt recommend it enough!!!
Canāt transfer restored photos to pc
I was excited to use your app. I paid for a one year subscription without a trial because there was none even though I mentioned the trial. Using the raw setting I was able to take photos that more clearly represented the color of what I was looking at then the natural iPhone settings, with the stores the color. The photos did not save correctly originally and I had to use the recover process. After doing that, when I plugged my iPhone into my PC and look into the iPhone folder where the photos should be there is nothing there even though I can clearly see them on my phone. I'm an old man with very limited time and I didn't expect this to give me problems that I had to deal with. It should've worked right out of the box. If there is a quick fix you can tell me that will make this work, I'll keep it, otherwise I'll just write off the 20 bucks as a wasted scam and delete the app. This is extremely disappointing as I had recommended this app This several students of mine as a way to photograph the paintings with more real color and now I have to tell them not to buy it after all. To repeat, very, very disappointed. The only thing I did wrong, was I didn't read the reviews. Can this be fixed?
Great app, crash and bug fixes needed
I love this app so much. It has genuinely changed my life. It works so well for taking instagram photos, and it is a great substitute for a digital camera (it takes pictures that turn out better than my friendsā digi cam photos). It is also helpful for photographing my art, which is very challenging to do accurately. This app crashes a lot. It sometimes doesnt save photos and just closes down. Very sad when this happens, but i am still able to use it pretty well. I am grateful that flash was added, as well as zoom and a bunch of camera modes. I hope the devs turn their attention to really fixing the crash issues though before adding more functionality.
Mark 3 has been buggy
Ever since the release of mark 3 version of app. Itās been littered with bugs which makes the app unusable or even able to open the app.
Photos keep not saving
This camera is great especially after the Mark 3 update they did. Phenomenal. However, this app is really testing my patience. Multiple times now (at least 10) I have taken a photo, held the phone in place to make sure it gets a good shot, and it didnāt save!! Super frustrating especially when taking shots that are time-sensitive. I will keep my faith in this app but may switch to my main camera when those kinds of shots are needed.

Im doing a free trial and I gotta say damn the pictures come out real good! Iām debating keeping the subscription lol I just donāt like to pay haha
Wonāt let me use the app
So when I downloaded the app for better camera quality, I went past all of the instructions and I got to pay for a free trial, but when I didnāt want to play for it the app dosent even have an X button to leave the free trial thing, so you basically have to pay to use the app.
Great camera app
It has a super minimal UI, no ai features, and pictures look stunning. Also, lots of ui and icon customization, as well as countless tweaks to get your pictures looking exactly how you want them.
Mark 2 much better than Mark 3
I got Halide Mark 2 because of the zero process raw feature, and āproā features, and I loved it. Halide Mark 3 takes away pro features and makes them hard to find. Mark 3 is now less lean and feels heavier bloated with āPhoto Labā and āLooksā, with overall app feeling sluggish. I have moved back to Mark 2. Please keep Mark 2 a permanent option for us to choose and stay with. I wouldāve given a higher rating for Mark 2, but with inclusion of Mark 3 with a permanent unchangeable button for it in the UI, I have to give this a lower rating.

The best secondary camera
Have been using Halide for 5 years at this point. The app is great to use and the latest colours are amazing. 99% of my use is with the process zero. My only gripe is that itās not always reliable and responsive so I no longer have it set to my action button. The default iOS camera app opens faster and is more likely to get a shot quickly.
Halide 3 is worse
With the new update disappeared the Process zero function that is the reason this app is great and gives you a full control and a professional camera look at photos, please bring it back!
Way too buggy to be your only camera app
As others have said, this app produces excellent photos ā it also has great features. However, it is *so* buggy! Many "capture errors" ā not just every once in a while but every time I use it (usually not the first shot unless I launch it from the lock screen). Also there are times it shows that I am taking photos but none save (no capture error warning though). Other bugs (such as the tone fusion crashing the app) are honestly fine, in my opinion. It's the unreliability at the point of capture that keeps me from using this all the time.
Halide Mark III is the real deal!
As a colorist and cinematographer, I've tried every photo app under the sun on iOS to get more filmic photos out of my phone. Halide Mark 3 feels like finally someone paired the right pro camera app with the right pro quality of preset. All these profiles are beautiful, and they actually feel like photos that don't know how, just have filters tacked on, but truly like filmic rendering and texture imbued into the actual image. It never feels too much like so many other camera film apps, and it has the perfect right amount of editing tools. There's definitely some more quality of life improvements to come, but I can't recommend this enough!
Unresponsive support
This camera keeps on getting fozen. Iāve lost a bunch of my footage from important events. I would NOT trust this for anything important. Even paid version feels like a waste of money.

Worst update ever
Where is histogram ? Why the ruddy row with buttons is not customisable ( e.q I could not care less about crops or turning raw off and instead would prefer old style raw size/type switch there with some other settings which are hidden in menus). New looks are fine if you like Polaroids but I used Halide for its simplicity and versatility- all of this gone. I now find myself using No Fusion camera app more because it is actually more Halide then Halide III
Absolutely love it, but crashes lots
Love the app and film sims. Really great. Unfortunately crashes on launch a lot and requires deleting the app and reinstalling.

This app is a lot of fun to toy around with and really get some great content. It was great before I decided to upgrade my subscription but now itās next level. I have a few other apps that are similar but this one replaced by Apple Camera on my homepage. (But I definitely still use it, simple is never overrated.) Would absolutely recommend to anyone, newb or pro. š«¶š¼šø
Canāt justify a subscription
I donāt subscribe to use a DSLR, and I shouldnāt have to subscribe to have full control over my phones camera, just because the app is made by a 3rd party. I canāt see any reason I should keep paying to use my cameras full potential indefinitely. Offer a perpetual license option, and Iāll reconsider.

Used to be the Gold Standard
Halide used to be the gold standard of iPhone camera apps but Mark III going all-in on HDR has completely ruined the experience with SDR photos - the film looks look awful with SDR, the editing controls arenāt self-explanatory and even the exposure editing slider for SDR seems to be a poor algorithm even compared to Apples own one in the Photos app. To its credit, itās still as smooth and good looking as ever but I think it has become wrapped up in the āphotography is just a subset of videoā hype of HDR and colour-grading.
Was good then an update took away features
I give up with this app. Have bought it at v1, v2 and special offers of v3 only for updates to remove features.
LOVE
I never ever rate apps, but this one is so worth it. I found it on a whim and decided to try it, and immediately fell in love. Suddenly my photos look amazing. Iām taking them all the time and struggling to delete ones I donāt need because they all look so good. The photos come out looking so professional and beautiful and like they came from a film camera if you use the RAW setting (which is all I use). Seriously a wonderful app :)

Beautiful app but one flaw
Itās a powerhouse of an app with minimalistic design but when I choose certain settings on my app letās say I change the shutter speed or ISO can there be an option or update where do certain settings are kept in and saved. Itās kinda annoying to keep continuously keep repeating the settings.
Junk locked away immediately with a subscription.
If you are going to charge for usage of the app, just make the app paid in the app store. I hate this dark pattern nonsense! Stay away..
Great, flawed app
The best photo capture app for iPhone. New and improved features are fantastic (love the ālooksā). One major flaw: very frequently it simply does not capture the image to the camera roll when I hit the shutter button. Many many shots lost this way over every version of the app.
