Seamless
I’ve only just installed this app but so far it works seamlessly. I had another banking security app that was just a glorified 2fa app with no other integration. This works automatically so you don’t need to do anything. My experience so far, at least.
Don’t force this
As a customer I should have the right to choose between this and SMS. I’m now being forced to use this Authenticator. I’m sick of it.
Please do not force update.
App works well for the most part. I don’t appreciate being forced to update when you’re in a hurry and in the middle of something. At least offer a reminder to update later at home when on Wi-Fi.
Don’t download
After a while it asks to verify and it’s already verified my device before but hasn’t detected it and now keeps asking to contact customer service. I am in a different country and not able to contact Australian number.

Amazing for overseas payment
This saved me in Japan when the payment for my travel card was getting blocked with other bank accounts as they were using SMS to verify my payment, but this app worked by itself and only needed the public wifi.
Aaargh
Why do you have your own authenticator app?! And no cloud backup?!!
Annoying
Needs to allow for more personalisation of notifications. I don’t need to know every time my wife buys a coffee.
Does what it’s meant to
Great layer of 2FA security. Recently stopped a scammer from accessing my account so can attest that it does the job and then some. Love this bank!
Almost poetically useless
I truly cannot see how this is anything other than a severely downgraded version of Google authenticator. If the app offloads from your device it will require you to call Macquarie (within business hours, naturally) which is extremely inconvenient on a device with lower storage. Not to mention that you must click three (3!) confirmation prompts EVERY SINGLE TIME you do anything in the app because they clearly think you are stupid.
Updates for life
Every time you need this app it demands an update. Its pretty annoying.

The Authenticator App is extremely well designed-fast, convenient, easy to use, and most of all, offers an additional layer of protection for all clients. Thankyou to Macquarie for designing such a reliable service-for client security & peace of mind.
Just go to a better bank
Rubbish service, rubbish products. Run for your lives, too much over reach awful!
Don’t use facial recognition
Once you get the app set up it works fine. But avoid setting it up with ID+ which necessitates matching your face with the photo in your licence or passport and, because of the poor quality and shine on those documents, that’s an exercise in futility.

The app is a great layer of added security especially for the coming years as cyber attacks become more complex

Fairly terrible for international transactions
Despite it is out of a good initiative to add more security on payments out of its platinum debit Card. Its Cruise API seems not properly designed or tested. In a recent online purchase on an mega- size oversea website, I waited forever for it to pass the payment approval message back to the shopping website and the transaction still wasn’t successful after 4-5 tries and almost 20 mins wait. Had to switch to credit card from other bank to complete the transaction. I am so glad I was only using it in Australia for online transactions.Couldn’t imagine how embarrassing & inconvenient that would be if I had taken it overseas. Sorry to be rude but I have to say Macquarie you have a very disappointing IT team that is not capable to support even basic products of yours and not to mention to be innovative. Stick with your wealth management business which is your strengths and stay away from banking.
Authenticator Never works - We are now completely moving our banking to another bank.
I have spoken to Macquarie staff multiple times, they have reset stuff on their end. I have signed out of the app, deleted the app, shut down the phone and reinstalled the app while staff on the phone and it still won’t work so I am unable to check any of my accounts. Macquarie also won’t allow me to use any another Authenticator so I am stuck not being able to check my own accounts online and having to call. I am now in the process of completing moving banks as this is just not acceptable for an online banking platform.
A good idea but it doesn’t work for a UK mobile number.
I raised the lack of support for UK numbers for two step authentication with Macquarie, at least a year ago. Other banks can do it. Why not Macquarie ? The number of International Australians, those who maintain a nominal tie to Australia but choose to live and work overseas, continues to increase year by year, only paused by this pandemic.
Broken and redundant app
Deleted the app because it hasn’t asked for verification in months. Out of the blue it asks for verification again whilst just trying to transfer to a friend for dinner. Asks me to ‘open Macquarie authenticator on my other device’. There is no other device. In the end it was easier to transfer to Commbank and send from there. Ridiculous.
Can’t activate notifications
Update: Mar 2026 Version 4.1.3 has not fixed anything. I still don’t receive codes despite Macquarie Bank having to make me manually verify my information and devices. Macquarie Bank customer service is also using redundant support guides and has repeatedly given me incorrect information regarding troubleshooting of this app version. Not a good look. Update: Jan 2026 Version 3.35 has not fixed the notifications issue or the broken ‘enable’ button. I wanted to point out, customer support has been repeatedly notified, yet the issue still persists. Original: This app requests notifications to be enabled for the app to work, the problem is the app isn’t allowing notifications to activate even if the device has it enabled. Therefore the app is completely useless until the issue is fixed. Zero stars if I could go lower.

The app has apparently been updated by Macquarie but now I can’t access my account?????
