Love it but something happened
I have been using this app for a long while now and when I got back into it last night all my work was gone I didn’t delete anything no one else was on it either so I don’t know what happened I had a lot and I do mean a lot of poetry haiku on here and I am sad that it is all gone does anyone know what would have happened I tried to do the iCloud thing but it won’t let me sync to it using this app so I guess all of my work is gone forever I hope not but I guess it is what it is

Пользовался приложением больше года, ещё с 2024 года. Все кайф, круто и прочее. Накопилось много важных записей. Использую почти каждый день!!! Но сегодня 10 мая 2026 года, приложение исчезло с моего телефона (такое вообще в первые). Разумеется недоумение и полное непонимание. Скачал заново и…. ПУСТО В поддержку на почту уже писал, та что указано в самом приложение. Пишу сюда, что бы увеличить скорость вашей реакции по сложившийся ситуации P.S. ситуация на -10 звезд, если ситуация решится и я верную все свои записи, коммент удалю
I used DayOne for YEARS - this is BETTER!
As good DayOne is, it still has issues, I lost files many times and they recommend that I back up their database - just in case. Really have no time for that. Add problems with location entry and a video size limit led me to I was shopping around. I found this app in the wonderful cornucopia that came with my SetApp subscription (free promotion). This is probably the 5th time I’m importing my DayOne entries; I got fed up and deleted this app each time. Too many niggling issues; I should also add that I tried the others, including Journey - paid for it and got rid of it. No that I’m back checking out Diary, it has improved A LOT. GOOD 1. Excellent handling of tags - colour coding = nice touch 2. Exceptionally well organised 3. Now adds the option hide markdown tags 👍🏽 4. Filtering is top-notch = by mood, attachment type 5. Imports calendar events = nice 6. Remarkable ability to determine how you want the app to look BAD 1. Synchronisation problems persist - I still can’t get it to work correctly across my devices 2. Adding locations is still rather iffy 3. Weird an inconsistent way to group photos (I don’t know when it will work ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) 4. Last time it sucked so much memory, may Mac ran out, and I had to force-quit it It is a much more mature and dependable app compared to the last time I tried it! All said this is a class act! My main complaint is the synchronisation issues. If that is resolved, it definitely beats DayOne- right now, I have a journal I can’t delete and I can’t remove it as my default journal either ٩(͡๏̯͡๏)۶ All things considered - I’d get rid of DayOne in a heartbeat if I can get my issues resolved. As it stands - 4 stars; support - your serve!

Easy to find stuff I don’t want, hard to find stuff I want
For example, today, all I wanted to do was enlarge all of the fonts in order to see them on days when I have eye strain — too hard to find

Great features, like adding a new entry to the same day you or on and keeping late night entries in the same day. Intuitive features. Active team adding updates and fixing bugs and are quick to respond. Rooting for yall!!! Thanks!

No tutorials or getting started info
There is a complete lack of information on how the app works. No YouTubes, no info from developer. I don’t know how to turn off the microphone which starts in the on position and clicking the microphone icon turns it ON not OFF. Multiple entries in a day? Also syncing between iPad and Mac is incomplete. I don’t care about themes or colored backgrounds or multiple journals - I just want some basic info.

I’m in the genuine process of switching from Day One to this; love the multiple locations, and the fact that whenever I caption photos, the captions I add get sent to my entry (haven’t tried it with the gallery feature though), and I don’t have to waste part of my entry describing the photo for myself. So, thank you for keeping features that assist blind diarists keep the most complete records we can! I also love her the markdown support you have is real, and I can’t wait to try it on a Mac, too. Keep up the excellent work
No use to me
It does some basic messing about with your photo’s, caricatures mostly, but then you click on ‘save’ and they just disappear into the bowels of the computer somewhere. I never managed to retrieve them, so I’ve uninstalled it.
Formatting problems
Hello, I am loving the most recent updates of Diarly and its interface with apple journal. It’s the feature I didn’t know I needed. I am writing to share an issue I’ve had for a couple of months. I use primarily the MacOS version 3.5.9. (The bug doesn’t occur in the iOS versions. ) I can no longer format text with italic or bold, either via inline commands, the Format dropdown menu, or by using the format bar that appears after I select the text. The underline and strikethrough formatting both work, however. Is this a known bug? I consider myself a power user, with almost 2,400 consecutive daily entries. It’s become a fixture of my bedtime routine and I rest more easily knowing I’ve emptied my brain of “stuff” i’ve been carrying around all day.
(Even more unwanted) Changes
Today’s update adds *even more* obstructions to just opening the app and starting to write (unwanted widgets have been restored - over-riding my personal settings- and need weeding before beginning). Worse, I created an entry, exited the app, and later when I re-entered, the screen showed my entry details but would not get out of the way to let me read it or edit it. I’m sure this must appeal to some users, but I’m out now. Earlier review: This used to be a great app – it stood out strongly from the crowd because it was simple, functional, clean and inviting to use. I have used the app since the beginning, but I am now looking for an alternative for my uses of it. I opened the app on my phone this morning and it took far too long for me start writing. All of the extra stuff that is now added automatically to the opening screen is simply a distraction.
It is OK
I wanted something simple, but this has gotten more complex. It does formatting that I do not want. I want a simple, clean place to write some things down. UPDATE: I nearly always dictate my entries into this. Trying to edit it on my iPad is a real pain. Then at point seems always move up and down and become somewhat difficult to get it to the right spot. It would be great if this could be improved. ANOTHER UPDATE: I get really irritated with their updates that only screw up what I wanna do.
GREAT JOURNAL APP
I NEVER submit reviews but this app is so good I have to! I've had so many journaling apps in the past and this one has been the best! It makes it feel as though it's your personal journal and not a legal document type with Times New Roman fonts. It's Cozy and easy to use. Most importantly very succure!

Downgrading my rating
Diarly just lost my data again. I set the laptop down, came back two hours later and half my activities for the day had disappeared. Things like this have been happening lately. It’s still a full-featured app that does everything, but it is no longer doing the most important thing—not losing my memories. Perhaps the dev should drop out of the features race and focus on reliability.
could be better
it is actually not a bad app but my problem is that I can’t add images and the app then automatically takes the date time and location of that image and creates the entry on that day. This is how I use Day One for years but it seems to be not possible with Diarly if they’re implement these feature, I could replace day one. The new iOS26 version also looks like a dog breakfast the design is simply bad
A feature rich journallthe app but with some key limits for assistive technology users
The range of features, import options and subscription tiers make this a very good option for most people looking to write in a daily journal. However, the experience is somewhat less polished for those relying on assistive technology such as VoiceOver. For instance, the entry preview text doesn't seem to be read by VoiceOver when looking at daily reflections, or indeed anywhere where there's a list of entries. You have to go into each entry to read the entry text, which is unfortunately, not a very efficient process. There are other areas of the app where trying to activate a UI element with VO seemingly does nothing, and the editor window could be made less cluttered which would aid in being able to write in efficiently. I'm very interested to see where this app goes in terms of its development and if the experience for VoiceOver users is refined and optimised to make it more efficient and accessible, I can certainly see myself switching to this app full-time from my current journalling app. However, the current accessibility 'quirks' just make journalling using this app less efficient and takes more effort and time than the app I already use.

Оформил подписку, включил синхронизацию в iCloud и что? Постоянно просит ввести пароль от шифрования записей в iCloud я конечно может чайник но не настолько пароль от iCloud, от зашифрованной копии айфона, не подходят, даже их подсказка. Запросил возврат средств.
Periodic usage
I hope this is not one of those apps that offers a good service briefly and then turns everything into a paid membership, where every add-on comes with an extra cost.
Приложение испортили редизайном
В майском обновлении интерфейс стал громоздким, неудобным и некрасивым. Где-то элементы чересчур мелкие, где-то огромные. На странице журнала, в полной ленте и на странице записи – шрифты трех разных размеров! Куча пустого неиспользуемого места из-за нерациональной верстки. Чтобы при переключении журналов видеть полный список записей, теперь нужно делать дополнительные клики. В общем, приложение теперь выглядит очень неряшливым, в него не хочется заходить каждый день и делиться там своими мыслями. Скорее всего, придется отменять подписку и искать альтернативу.

The Perfect Journal App!
I love this app so much! There are so many types of journals that I work with. Sometimes from a book, sometimes a type of manifestation tool. Sometimes I just want to remember what vitamins to take all day. Whatever it is, this app allows me to create the perfect journal and then flow for the day, month, year, etc. It’s beautiful and easy to use. So good!

Lovely journaling app - solid for all needs
Diarly is a very lightweight and simple app to get started with that has surprising depth and customization waiting under the surface. I very much like the ease of importing data from other apps and programs and even had some mild success importing some old entries from my college Deadjournal but turns out I was really annoying so I didn’t do the rest yet. 😂 I do wish that Diarly would add the ability to create your own custom moods - very often a lot of the moods/emotions they have to choose from doesn’t exactly fit what I’m feeling and for an app with so much customization this feature would fit right in. I think a lot of others would love it too.
I can't figure out features
It's not intuituve to me. When I switched to the premium version there was no longer "prompts" which I wanted. So I cancelled my free trail.
Syncing issue
I’m enjoying using the app on my mac but I downloaded it to my iPhone too and it won’t sync which is really disappointing. If there is a fix for this I’d really appreciate it.

The only reason why….
It is seriously the best note taking/diary app ever but since a recent update they took the widget off of the Apple Watch and the premium version seems not as useful anymore…. So that is the only reason why it is three to four stars for me. But I will put at five once I get the widget back on my watch please!!!

The free trial week passed without me noticing and the payment came out of my account. I will persevere but I really wanted a reminder to get me to write in it each day. I wanted to change the headings or prompts but if I tried to write on a different line in edit it changed font to small. This is a good idea but it needs to be made more user friendly.
Syncing phone to laptop?
I’m unable to sync my phone diary to my laptop on, is it possible to have them connected? It only syncs to my iCloud.

Very limited purchase options, the developer doesn’t understand subscription is not for everybody and for that this app is totally useless for us. Finally Apple has given users a new journal app, and it’s free.

Mac App Crashed on first post
Sorry to give such a low score as the app looked promising. I created the default post on the mac, edited on an iPad and added a photograph from ios photos and a "painted drawing". After sync mac app crashed. Update: Bug fixed will try again
Helpful and amazing!
A great app really helps me to focus on what I'm trying to say. I'm able to write and do more things in it than I ever thought possible, and I have had the longest habit of using this app for actually doing journaling. I'm so excited to keep going!
App won't sync between Iphone and Mac
I would love this app to work but right now it isn't syncing between my iphone and Mac. Every time I try to restore the purchase a message comes up saying "Could not connect to your iCloud Account. Please make sure that Diarly has access to iCloud Drive". I have tried updating my icloud preferences and even deleted my icloud account on my Mac and then logging back in but it still hasnt worked. I only have the 7 day trial but at this stage I will be cancelling before then so I don't get charged for the full year.
Great Diary App but…
This is a fantastic app with just enough features. However, there is one think I don’t understand. If I make an entry for the day then go back later on the same day and try to start another entry, the font changes to a really small unreadable font. I can’t figure out how to match the font with the default font.
