Worth every penny!
I’ve used stoic for almost 2.5 years. Before stoic, I tried using other journaling apps (Grid Diary & Day One, to name a couple), but always found it hard to stick with the habit. Stoic is very customizable and adjusts to how I want to use the app in different seasons of my life (sometimes I want to do one reflection in the morning and one at night, other times I only have enough mental bandwidth to get through one, and there are days that I just do a mood-check). I don’t feel pressured to journal “the right way”, which makes it easier to stick with the habit and be mindful for at least a few minutes per day. The team is CONSTANTLY working on improving the app with new features and taking care of bugs. Stoic might be the only company I’ve interacted with in the past couple of years that truly listens to user feedback and works to make a product better rather than just making a profit. Their customer service is TOP TIER.

Cross device sync broken
Unfinished - features do not work as advertised, settings do not sync across devices. Badges are awarded multiple times. Badges are rewarded for completing check ins by clicking the “x” and closing the check in. This means it can’t be trusted to accurately track mood. Frustrating user experience. Waste of time. Save yourself frustration and try something else.
Free version is annoying by design
I can’t remember the free version, so only use if you’re ok with the subscription. Free version doesn’t even offer a cloud sync option, and it’s riddled with features that requires the subscription, effectively having guard railed advertising which is annoying. I could understand limiting features for a premium version, but the ads for the app in the app are too annoying.
Phenomenal!
I’ve been looking for an app that check on me everyday, with different questions everyday as well. I can’t believe I can finally do that with Stoic! It’s literally the one thing that makes me start my day with being aesthetic and organized, just like how I want. I am loving it!
Removed Functionality, added AI slop
Deleted many widgets (namely the quote widget), added AI slop integration and locked other features behind paywall.

Inconsistent, Deleting/Not Saving Entries, MacBook App Not Working
When the app works, it’s great. It is literally a daily need for me, and has been for years. Lately, and for a few months now, my entries will not save, or will only partially save. I lose WAY TOO MUCH. On top of that, stoic has been running smoothly on my iPhone, but when it comes to my MacBook, it’s useless. I can pretty much only type an empty page journal. I am completely unable to do my daily check in. The Home page doesn’t even show anything. All of these flaws are extremely annoying, and are making the app unusable.
A Great Resource for a Stoic Student
This gives you a large amount of resources and practical guidance on the daily practice of stoicism. It is well rounded in giving you historical and modern perspectives. It also encourages you to think things through instead of telling you what to think. It is an all around great tool to add to your Stoic practice.

Only one thing holding back from 5⭐️
Okay, I’ve had this app for a little over 3 years. And it’s incredible. I remember wanting to be able to write down what I was actually thinking/feeling; However, it has become some so much more than just a hobby or way to organize my thoughts ( though it’s pretty good for those too). I use stoic so much and it’s so freaking good. I feel better every time and I’ve actually seen the app improve over the years. I could go on and on about how it’s amazing and great and how you should download it, but I feel I should also mention what hold this app back. And that would be iCloud. I use the app off premium and it’s still amazing but I can’t put it on more than one devise and I can’t save the entries to my iPads iCloud. And after all these years It would be so depressing to loose all that writing. So yeah. I’m probably going to go and get premium. But if you think that you might want to be able to keep and re-read what you write and not want to pay around 40 bucks a year (there’s also other deals and offers just to be clear and truthful) then this apps probably not for you. And honestly, I don’t know if I would have downloaded it 3 years ago if I had known about this. But again, I want to emphasize that is is like their ONLY issue. Everything else is so perfect and nice and works great whether you want to get all your emotions out, plan out your mornings, or forget about it and come back every 3 months and write a bit ( or a lot Yk). What I’m saying is that it has space for everyone. Unless you want to be able to keep your own writing for free or write across multiple devices……….
Frustrated
I get frustrated by the app’s AI feature, you pay good amount of money for this and yes it offers options of what answer you want (Not a fan of that either), but majority of the time the AI will just repeat to you what you wrote. So frustrating. I wont be renewing which is too bad because this journal has the highest potential to be the best.
Could be great
I want to like this app but there is so much going on that it’s overwhelming. Too many ideas, exploration page, create your own template but it’s not really a template and let’s not forget the constant push to upgrade to “premium”. I do think it has useful features but I can’t get past all of the other stuff. I just want to document my feelings in a journal and have better de-stress techniques. This is too much for me (personally)

All about the $
I was under the impression I could use what I felt necessary and each time a new prompt showed up, the end result was signing up for a subscription. If you don’t decline the prompts (even the simple questions you think are designed to help you), I the next page is something else asking for money. I checked this app out for my kid but I will not suggest it for him.
Great app
Easy to use and super clean
Used to be very nice
I am an annual paid subscriber for the premium service, and really used to love the app. It had a great morning check-in flow that generated prompts based on your focus areas for the day and created great prompt questions. A few weeks ago though, they did an update that completed changed the morning/evening prompts to a “Daily Check-In” that is greatly reduced and no longer generates questions for you based on your focus areas for the day. It also removed the 3 things Gratitude prompt. If they don’t revert, I’ll cancel for the new year as it does not fit my needs any longer.

Subscription Spam Kills UX
As a first-time user who just wanted to learn more about and explore the app, the first five or ten minutes with it was awful and frustrating. I just wanted to see the interface and determine whether or not I might like it. Instead, I got hit with a bunch of popups, subscription paywalls, rating requests, and more *constantly* within the first five minutes — to the point that this “mental health companion” app was actively fighting me while I was trying to figure it out. I get that subscriptions are important. I don’t even mind paying for something I like. But when I’m spammed so much in the first few minutes that I can’t even figure it out, the ask comes across as greedy and unhelpful. Once I cleared the constant popups, I tried to click around and gain a better understanding of how the app functions. Nope: More popups and paywalls. Based on other reviews, some users are having better luck. I still don’t know if this app is for me … but after all the paywall spam, I have no interest in continuing. Devs, please consider implementing a better onboarding flow for users and asking for money *after* someone has a chance to get their bearings.
Great for Introspection
This app is great for self reflection, especially if you’re looking for constructive feedback on it. It’s helping me grow and better control my emotions.
Total oriented towards selling things and not towards helping you
Even the artificial intelligence version sends you off to admire the authors Twitter feed rather than letting you look at your mental health issues. It asks you to reflect on how your day went at the crack of dawn. It would be an awful lot more useful if it actually allows you to play with it before buying an expensive subscription rather than simply continually badgering you to buy it. I can’t see how this behaviour benefits either the seller. Or the customer if you simply make an app unusable unless they subscribe, you give the potential purchaser no opportunity to decide whether the thing is of their value to them. It talks about trends which mystifies me – aren’t these just things that stupid people do on Facebook? what conceivable relevance does Facebook have to peoples mental health and well-being?
Free Version ain’t it
I had this many years ago and the free version was still great! It’s frustrating how it now is so basic and not worthwhile unless you have premium.

I wanted to try it out. I never used the app. They charged me $100 and will not give a refund. They say oh it’s not our fault because Apple handles al the billing. We can’t do anything about it. That is BS, unethical and terrible business practice.
Bug
As I can’t open the app, I can’t submit this bug in the usual way so I hope this is okay! I used to love this app, and have found myself in need of it again so I tried to download it but whenever I open the app it just closes down instantly. Any way around this? I’ve cleared my cache, redownloaded, made sure my phone is on the latest update, etc.
Support Loop
On the Mac App Store, click ”Support” - you’re taken to the website. There, click on ”Got questions? Help Center” and you go back to the Mac App Store. An infinite loop which doesn’t inspire confidence.

I like the app. It does encourage me to be more diligent with my journaling. It would be nice if the prompts didn’t repeat so often.

I appreciate that this journal has an AM and PM opportunity so that I can write out my goals for the day and close with reflections
Waste of time
I have no idea why everyone is writing such incredible reviews for this app. The questions are nothing like therapy. They area boring, repetative and very simple. For example, when it asked ‘what’s your main focus today?’, I select ‘Work’, the next question is ‘what are you working on?’, I put, ‘thesis’, the next question is, ‘what areyou doing later in the day, I put ‘thesis’ and the next question is ‘do you work better by multitasking or focusing?’ I put ‘focusing’ and that’s it. Honestly want my money back.
Amazing interface for self improvement
I enjoy the progression system and being able to express my self no matter what and when, not restricted to a specific niche or confused by it being too vague.
Can’t use cause of crashing
I love stoic, I really do. Amazing journaling app. But I can’t use it because of the crashes. I think your latest update created a crashing problem. Every time I try to do morning or night prep it freezes and crashes. PLEASE FIX THIS.

If it’s not broken, don’t fix it!!!
I’ve been using this app for 37 days in a row, I love it because I set an intention in the morning and then reflect in the evening. Overnight for absolutely no reason the app has removed this function. This is awful and has thrown me off my rhythm so much. What a totally careless and thoughtless decision. I will be asking for a refund if they don’t fix this soon.
Crashes 3 times in one single journaling
This is a good app for keeping my thoughts in check, but pls fix the crash…
Recent update disappointing
I’m so disappointed. I just started using the app again and was LOVING the 3 or so journal prompts every morning and evening to help me process my day and now I have to pay friggen $50 a year for that?! You’ve got to be kidding me. This app sucks now and I won’t be using it anymore.

Decent app. Like what it offers. The interface is a not very accessible. Very flat, more for aesthetics. Could have more depth to help people with visual impairments better understand how to navigate in the app. I am concerned about data privacy. I think stoic should do more to protect users data. Stoic needs encrypted data by default
hmm it’s not as great as it might look
i was using free version for month and then decided okay i’m gonna buy subscription. do i see any difference ? not rly. the paid options don’t make it more profound. meditations and breathing techniques that are basic and okay, available in another apps but available so i could do not pay. affirmations.. is it a joke? such basic stuff like you read a newspaper. not rly uplifting nor motivating. my main reason, maybe questions ? gonna be more options and journaling is more profound with variations of questions that will change every day, just as they advertise before you buy it? but no. i get exactly the same questions every day or with a change one question but the same ones. the app done nicely. the the it’s filled up with information/questions is poor. some work is done whatsoever, so i give 3/5 for paid version, if i wouldn’t buy it i’d say its better because the system with answering questions helps me. but i wish the variety of questions that make me thing about my life, my actions and ideas, emotions etc would be WAY wider.
