Drafts is the best
Incredibly useful text power tool always one tap away. This the glue that holds iOS together. I don’t have to think upfront about workflows, if there’s an idea or bit of data I need to capture I just start with Drafts and then I can do anything I need with it now or later.
Absolutely Worthless wth Dropbox
This app will not connect in any way, shape, or form to Dropbox. If you use Dropbox for anything, hard pass on this. That’s not necessarily bad, but they advertise that it connects to Dropbox. Stole my money.
Just wish they’d stop trying to get me to upgrade to subscriptionware.
Love this app for quick jotting down a new note, and then copying it into another app for filing/reminder/notes, etc. my only complaint is they switched to a subscriptionware model like most other devs have and now constantly ask me to upgrade to the new pro model at $$ per whatever. Sorry guys, this app is literally the equivalent of a scrap piece of paper laying around that I quickly grab and jot something down on. Its biggest value to me is that the moment I open it, it’s ready to compose a new note. I do wish it had a cleaner interface for writing, like Byword does, but it is what it is. It has a TON of features that I’m due much more advanced users couldn’t live without, but I don’t need that level of complexity to accomplish what I need.

Powerful but organizing action can be tricky
Powerful but awkward You are essentially creating your own UI. For some reason it stopped capitalizing the first word of a task. Just where did I put that action. What do those icon do, some are clear others are not. I recommend adding actions slowly organizing them as you go. Recent releases have made it easier to find and manage actions, but you need to spend some time organizing your actions
Great options others lack
This is a great app that for free lets you have all kinds of choices in how to manage files, documents, copied text from web searches and tons of other great features- highly recommend!
Everything is invisible
Something happened that I didn't do and now everything in the editor window is invisible. I cannot access any notes because the content is invisible. Adding content is invisible too. I tried toggling the modern editor (new TextKit) but that didn't change things.
Been using it for over a decade
If Drafts had a Windows version (with sync), it’d be my most used app

macとiPadで使っていると、同期がうまくいかず、先祖帰りすることがある。 macで編集→iPadで編集→macで開くと、iPadの編集が反映されておらず、もう一度iPadで開くと、編集内容がなかったことになっている。これでは困ります。
Very good
I’m a tough grader. Most people give five stars or four stars, but I start off at three and rarely go higher. This is a great app. I may raise the review later after I get to know it better.
A text editor on steroids.
I have never used anything like this. I’ve been using it for years now. It’s one of my most used apps. I discover new functionality that I didn’t know. existed on a regular basis in this app.
Buggy on iOS 26
Since I upgraded to the latest iOS version, it’s no longer usable. It’s super laggy and sometimes stalls when viewing a note so I can’t do anything.
So close
I love it for a simple editor. I don’t use the advance things that it can do. In a past life I would have. I really wish I could share, even a viewable only version. I use this as a coach to put my practice plans in and they sync to my Apple Watch. I couldn’t find a simpler app to do it. I just wished my assistant coaches could view the plans.
Unfortunately not for me
Subscription model for me is a no-go. Looks a great app and would happily pay a decent one-off payment, but to continually pay for something I’ll never own just doesn’t make sense.
A bit too ‘amazing’ for simple needs??
There’s no disguising that a lot of work has gone into Drafts, so why, you might ask, am I dissatisfied? I’ve tried to get my head round the jargon and numerous control panels but unless I’m missing something I still find myself frustrated and turning to a simpler text editor. It syncs well, and is nicer to use for text documents that Apple’s Notes, which also syncs quite well. So I go into my iMac and start drafting something which I will then use either in email or Word for Mac. This where it struggles. Why not just draft in Word? That indeed is an option, even if Word doesn’t have quite the same sync features, but drafting in one program and checking a final version in another is better at throwing up errors, as any experienced author knows. Now if just type plain text, fine. But the minute I try to add an italic or other emphasis in Drafts I get a word surrounded by underlines, with or without an italics display. Either way, it doesn’t transfer to Word with actual italicised words. This is such a basic thing. I’ve searched the web and some pages seem to say that it is a technical impossibility due to something or other. Either way it seems a drastic shortcoming in a program that is so sophisticated in many other ways. Or am I missing something? If anyone can explain how to italicise a word using Drafts on an iMac (or MacBook) so that when pasted into Word for Mac the italicised words appear in italics, then I’ll be a ‘fan’. Best wishes.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’ve tried a lot of note-taking apps, but Drafts has become my favorite. I love that it’s only $1.99, and everything syncs seamlessly between my iPhone and MacBook. That alone makes it worth it for me. I use it for all kinds of things—planning systems, planning guides, bills, important dates, routines, and regimens. It’s basically where I organize my life before anything becomes “finished.” What I appreciate most is how simple it is. There aren’t a bunch of unnecessary features getting in the way. You just open the app and start writing. I also love the name, “Drafts.” It perfectly captures the feeling of ideas that are still growing, plans that are being worked on, and thoughts that aren’t quite finished yet. It feels like a safe place for creativity and organization to coexist. If you want a clean, reliable writing space without all the clutter, I highly recommend it.
Whut
Bizarre little app in how user-unfriendly it is. I suppose this is primarily for people that write code and are used to those sort of tools. I just wanted a straightforward app to write out full chapters of fanfic and my original stories. Guess I simply picked the wrong app. Idk. 🤷🏾♂️

Never lose text you need
Simple, extensible, automatable, text capture and editing
Freezes in iPad IOS26.1 with External Kayboard
I have been a user for several years. That is until IOS26.0 and it freezing and crashing with external keyboard. They said it would be fixed in IOS26.1, but the problem still exists. I will be switching to Obsidian which is not as straight forward or simple to use, but at least it works.

Would happily pay if required for access to all platform as I just wish there was a Windows web app even so I could access my notes there
What was once brilliant is now confounding
I want to like Drafts 5, but, good grief, after over a year of working with it I’ve concluded it is a mess. Non-centralised menus, often unintuitive iconography, promiscuous customisability that multiples confusion and muddies reliability, a UI that grows uglier and more unbalanced in its design. Drafts used to be the go to for cross platform quick text entry, processing, and then archival. Now, it’s just a bloated app that feels more like a Lego airplane assembled by a five year old than a serious tool. I’m breaking up with Drafts. It’s time.
Almost great
Seems to have some terrific capabilities. Capturing stuff is great. The interface needs work and the actions and clever stuff needs a human centred redesign.
Outstanding; Perfect for the Age of AI
I absolutely love Drafts as my premium capture place when I am out and about or wherever I am, even in the office. I can record quickly something on my phone, which goes to Drafts, or I can press the action button on my watch and whatever I record goes straight to Drafts. From there I can edit it and move it into whatever destination I choose, whether it's an email, my diary, or my notes. It's absolutely perfect in conjunction with my workflows with artificial intelligence. Also, rather than dumping things straight into different apps, I can put it into Drafts as a draft to think about, edit, and then send for production. I love this app. I highly recommend it as your future “capturing” place!
Stop with the pop ups
I only use this for frictionless writing that doesn’t distract me so I can get my idea out before it goes because I have significant brain damage. If you cease to provide this functionality and make me lose another good idea I will cease to find this app relevant. I want an option to see updates WHEN I FEEL LIKE IT. Otherwise I DO NOT CARE. I ONLY care about not having a distraction when I want inspiration strikes. If you work just as badly as notes I will just go back to that. One more time and I am out and when I read this I will state it. I would pay to shut you up and leave me alone to never get a popup again. Insufferable companies need to stop harming our productivity to tell me what you want credit for. LATER when I feel like it. Have a tab to see updates and make it a pretty color instead or something. Learn how people work or you will be another app that becomes irrelevant because it should.
I always return to Drafts
When ever inspiration strikes, I always return to Drafts if I get an idea I want to keep safe and sound. I quickly open up Drafts and start typing. I can sort out later where it goes but I can always choose some good tags. I now use an iPad mini with an Apple Pencil and find that an easy to way draft an idea or a note very quickly.
Drafts on Apple Watch
I have drafts on my Apple Watch series 3, but for some reason, I can’t delete drafts from my Apple Watch. However, drafts is still very easy to use, and it is also very useful.
Coulda been a contender....
This is an upgrade I’d pay for ... but not month after month for the rest of my life.
Really, really great for writing
Drafts is an excellent environment for getting writing done. The scripting and customization are perfect. If it can be written in Drafts I do. And just about everything can be.
From Hero to Zero
This used to be my most regularly used all, I love it. I used it to quickly timestamp things in notes but since the recent update everytime I use it, it crashes. EXTREMELY infuriating. I hope they haven’t broken all actions because right now it’s unusable

Constant crash on app switch
As titled. Every time I switch to another app, drafts crap out on me.
Very nice iPhone app, but one major feature missing....
The iPhone app is perfect with nothing wrong but the Apple Watch app has a glitch which is very annoying. I have found when you have used the app for a day, something happens and you can no longer delete a note just after making it. This is very annoying because if you suddenly want to delete something, you can’t. Once this is fixed, this will by far be the best note taking app both on the phone and on the watch.
You have no idea
… how much you need this software until you try it. Trust me. It is so well done and so helpful
Lost all my Drafts 4 notes
UPDATE: It is reasonable to expect that when you install a new version of a note-making app on a new device, you should be able to have access to your notes that you have created on an older version of the app without further ado. I have spent literally hundreds of hour making notes about different topics, all on Drafts 4. When I open Drafts Version 7 on my new device I get a completely BLANK app—there is exactly NOTHING there. I can see my notes only on my old device. Your workaround described in your response requires that I install version 4 and run it concurrently with version 7. Running two versions of an app is inconvenient and unsatisfactory. I am writing this in a review so people who are thinking of getting this app will be able to make an informed decision knowing what could happen to their notes in a future update of your app. I’ve been using Drafts 4.7.7.2 since 2016. Have tons of notes stored on it. Just download this version 7 on a new device and have no way to access my old notes. My Drafts 4 is on an old device which doesn't allow Drafts 7 to be installed on it. My Drafts 7 is on a new device. I have no way of transferring my data to my new device. The Migrate function only works if both versions 4 and 7 are on the SAME device. Very poor show. My data is obviously on Drafts servers as I can access it using my old device (which I’ll be giving away) but I cannot access my data with my new device because my new device doesn’t have Version 4 on it and I have no way of installing Version 4 on it. So it’s goodbye to all my notes. Not good.
Free version is perfectly usable
When Drafts went subscription I was like “ugh” because I can’t afford to rent software when I’m not using a service. But actually, the free tier of Drafts is perfectly usable for the basic “fast text input 🔜 send to another app” workflow I tend to use Drafts for anyway. So my advice is: use the free tier, but don’t invest your time figuring out the fancy stuff until there’s a pay-once pro version, or unless you’re wealthy.
Too expensive
Yep, $30 a year is too expensive for me. Editorial has far more options for automation and scripting, and is way more reasonably priced.
Back to drafts 4 for me
I find this app very useful in my day to day; really like the design - simple but powerful... that subscription tho.
Essential App
Drafts is an essential app for me. I use it daily to manage the flow of text into my various apps. Everything starts in Drafts and then gets easily transferred to another app with an action. I couldn't do without it.
New version too slow
Drafts was one of my most used apps. snappy and multifunctional. Unfortunately, I updated to the new version and removed the old one. Theoretically, it is an upgrade. In reality, it is too slow to start on my few years old iPad Air 2. I will be switching to something else, possibly even Notes itself, after years of depending on Drafts. Even when I upgrade my ipad at some point, I am no longer sure it is worth it anymore. Another fantastic product ruined by bloating...
I love Drafts, but Apple Watch dictation needs help
Drafts for iOS is perhaps the best way to capture thoughts and ideas via text. It’s super easy to write down or dictate whatever on your mind and come back to it at a convenient time. However I have a complaint for Drafts for Apple Watch. I don’t know if this is a WatchOS problem or a Drafts problem to be honest, but if you use multiple keyboards, the dictation feature will not start transcribing in English. This is a bit annoying because it means you have to change the dictation keyboard language every time before you start recording. This adds an extra step you have to remember which disrupts the “quick capture” experience.
Already excellent app got even better!
Drafts keeps delivering top notch functionality, great automation and delightful interface. If you have known and used the previous versions you will love this new incarnation. As to those who vocally oppose subscription mode, please note that it is optional. I think that vast majority of the users will be perfectly happy with the non-pro version available completely for free (you had to buy the app to use it in the past). Subscription is optional for those power users who really need advanced functionality. BTW, you may want to subscribe anyway, as I heard that the profit earned by the developer from pro subscription will go a long way to help create desktop version of Drafts for Mac (wich would be great!).
Disappointed the devs went the way of subscription.
Im disappointed with the subscription model dev seem to be taking up nowadays and i will be keeping with Drafts 4. I hope the devs remember their loyal customers who got them off the ground and keep the drafts 4 app working with future IOS updates.
