What people like
- Great British crime shows
- Good selection of programs
- Love the true stories
What they complain about
- Ads interrupt you constantly
- Support never actually helps
- Keeps crashing when you open it
$20 Price Increase??
I’ve been with BritBox for quite a few years now and enjoy the app very much. While I understand a price increase each year as the cost of doing business, this increase seems a bit steep. Hopefully this cost adjustment comes with additional benefits to its customers and the occasional crashing of the app is less frequent. Make the increase worth it to those of us that have supported you over the years!
The pay wall never ends
Subscribed for a year, largely to see the documentary on China, only to find another paywall. Very disappointed in such deceptive marketing.
Premier package options
I love BritBox...its the 1st app i run and open everyday to watch or see whats added or coming soon...My only complaint like many others i am seeing now is for the PREMIER PACKAGE....I dont think its fair that its only as a Yearly option n not monthly and we who dont have pkg have to wait a whole week to week to watch the episodes...that is absolutely crazy ...and ive just recently noticed few new shows available that u have to have pkg to watch n dont see them in the coming soon or if are its like a 1-2 month wait from dates i see under episodes(again insane) Really hope Britbox is taking the paying viewers requests about Premier seriously and it happens..ahhh esp too instead of the monthly price increase i receive ...ive had 4 increases in approx 12-15 months...thats not right esp w/this premier situation..for $$ payed should b getting Premier !! Thx for a fantastic app ..and for reading my review !!
Must Do Better
Good selection on British programming. However, the actual app is poor and hard to navigate. So confusing.
At $70 a year?
it was a good deal during the pandemic. But the price has since gone $70 a year to $125 a year. The shows are ok. For the pricing, I took my niece to My Chemical Ronace at Soldier Field in Chicago. This year, we’re going to Riot Fest. And we’re not paying obnoxious streaming charges to do it🤪
Finally PiP!!!!
Aug 11 2026 update: sound drops during PiP. Pls help! — I cannot thank the developers enough for this long awaited key improvement.
I pay to only watch 1 show I shouldn’t have to see ads for shows I don’t want
I only pay to watch classic Doctor Who used to be 7$ with no ads now it’s $11 with ads either the ads go or I do I pay to watch classic Doctor Who. It’s expensive enough why should I constantly having to skip ads.
Please add monthly premier it’s time
As I keep saying people would like a monthly Premier Subscription option, please consider doing this now, as people are screaming out for it. It’s a superb choice of British television, both new and old, with various genres of viewing but wish that the new premier offerings were available on a monthly subscription basis and not just a yearly subscription.
Two Different Apps
I enjoyed my free trial. I liked a lot of your original programming. I do not like the fact that to unlock your entire catalogue of shows one must pay the annual premier price of $149.99. So poor folk, like myself, that pay monthly only get access to half of your shows. That’s greedy, you will not get any more of my money.
Stingy
I started a subscription to Britbox and couldn’t even enjoy a full series unless I upgraded, how do you expect me or anyone stay?
Here for the other Bennet sister
And who isn’t!
So Much for Loyalty
They’ve now added BritBox Premium. This has resulted in them promoting shows on various platforms & newsletters that only give you the first few episodes free. Then they want a fee increase to $150 to finish the show they convinced you to start. Throw the tea!
Good content, basic app
Good content. Minimal app functionality. Needs a setting to turn off autoplay of next episode.
Don’t bother
There is such limited content, Britbox is truly a joke. A tiny fraction of BBC content is on the app, and now there is even less available due to the introduction of a “premium” tier. App navigation is also quite clunky. Don’t waste your money!
HLG HDR not stored on Apple TV
The app is ok, but the best streaming device for this app on my LG OLED has been my Fire TV Cube. If possible hardware-wise, please update it so I can use on my Apple TV instead.
Use You Phone BEFORE Your TV
I was going crazy trying to create my new BritBox account through the Apple TV App and needed to do it through my iPhone app. The TV App had odd behaviors when I attempted to input a decent password and Create the Account, but the iPhone app worked just fine. There seems to be a fairly short password length limit so be sure to craft a good one with the length they provide.
Apple TV
Bad service - getting so tired of the bad service. Now being subjected to constant adds saying I’m not a good enough customer and have to pay “extra” for the ability to see ‘future’ episodes… now we have notices to enter our password every two minutes. What a sorry excuse for an entertainment app! Acorn here we come!!!
Playback
Please fix — or at least provide an option to disable — the repeated “Resume / Start from Beginning / Cancel” prompt after every episode when rewatching a series. In 2026, continuous playback during rewatches should be effortless. Nearly every major streaming app already allows viewers to restart a series and continue watching without being interrupted after each episode. BritBox’s current behavior makes rewatching shows unnecessarily frustrating. If viewers fall asleep during an episode, they can manually return to where they left off later. There’s no need to interrupt playback every single episode with another selection screen. Please add either: * A “Restart Series” option that continues automatically through all episodes, or * A setting to disable repeated playback prompts during rewatches. This would greatly improve the viewing experience and eliminate a very annoying nuisance. Lastly why are you charging a $149.99 for Premier🤯
Signing in?
Why do I have to sign in every single time with a password???? Even a 5 minute bathroom break??? This is ridiculous!!!
Message to sign into Apple account
After opening app there is a sign into Apple account dialogue box. It happens on the latest IPhone and IPad app.
Love BritBox
If you love Brittish crime tv you’ll love this - It’s a must have. I think Brit. Crime tv is better than any other. That’s why I love Britbox. I join on and off when I’m waiting for new murder mystery series to become available. Highly recommended.
Limited viewing
I pay for the monthly subscription but there are some shows that only let you watch the first few episodes and then you have to pay the $150/yr to finish watching. Disappointing!
Love the shows, but…
I hate the sound and cannot change it. It’s the music volume over voice that’s driving me to distraction. I have to turn on CC so I know what’s being said if there’s a music track in the show. It’s like it’s built for surround sound which you obviously do not have if you watch on your iPad like I do. I’d say I don’t watch as much as I’d like to just because of this issue.
Bad app, good service.
Britbox has good content but, unfortunately, there is no way to turn off autoplay the next episode. You have to manually cancel it every time. There is also no way to have multiple profiles. Everyone in the house has to use the same profile.
Good content, terrible app
The app is glitchy and often has problems. Usually logging out or deleting and reinstalling can fix it, but not always. Contacting help/support is disappointing. They cannot do anything and any they will get back to you I. 49 hours, while billing for service. Ugh.
Without Sin
Great storyline and a good twist at the end.
Went south
Was a great simple app for years now it has ads and a premium subscription ! Hate when they ruin a good thing . Now I’m getting commercials for BritBox while watching stuff on BritBox ? Ridiculous
much improved connection
For a while around Christmas the BritBox app kept stall in the middle of watching a program multiple times with a message that internet connection had been lost. This wasn’t the case, as I could switch to our internet-based TV service and watch with no problems. The service has much improved - I’ve had no problems in the past few weeks. I will give a 5-star rating if I continue to be able to watch problem free. It’s my favourite streaming app.
Opening closing
For the most part, I like Britbox and well it’s got a little bit of an issue. It’s slow to open and it somehow takes my two bar 5G and convert it to a one bar LTE first I thought this was just a hoax but as I troubleshoot sure enough, my cell signal will drop when I open Britbox please fix Tiktok does the same thing, but if I open any other app, my 5G does not change only when I open Britbox and Tiktok
Why
I already pay 132.00$ a year. Why are you asking for a 149.00$ at once??? Huh.!
Profiles needed
Only one complaint. Please provide profiles. Xx
AirPods play\pause no longer working only with this app.
Yesterday, the play/pause function completely stopped working, but only with this app. It’s not working on both the iPad and iPhone with AirPods Pro 2 & 3 and only with this app.
Need auto play shut off.
Auto play is nice. But it would be great to be able to disable this. Please, please add this feature. Thank you!!
App issue
Please fix the app it’s annoying when you just sign up and you try watch a show it keeps taking forever to load with the blue circle or doesn’t load at all. And it makes you have to pay more if you want to keep watching a series which is unfair when you’re already paying enough monthly. If these changes don’t get fixed which is a shame you’ll start loosing customers.
A Thank You! to the Reviewers..
With every streaming app I use I ALWAYS read the reviews before installing an update. Because of those that take the time to give us a preview of what's to come w/each update (especially the iPad over the last year) I have avoided updating to a bigger mess. TBH, I absolutely love Britbox and have been a subscriber both directly through the app and a subscription. For YEARS I was never concerned about the updates. They were solid and I could trust that. You guys have lost your way. There were smaller issues.. and then the 'Premier Nightmare' took over. I haven't updated in 3mo's. I'm stuck paying for an app w/annoying kinks that are small compared to the awaiting nightmare. Please, for all of us who still believe in you, get it together. Do a monthly 'Premier' option if you have to. The dangling carrot routine is old and truly unfair for all who can/can't afford it. Please, try harder.
Brit box app
Thanks guys I have actually Seen a few British Shows Comedy Shows Movies they are Good I am enjoying watching Jane eyre again as I have seen before and other British Programmes thanks Simone kunkel
Broken since last update
Recently it started inexplicably asking for your Apple ID every time you open it (I’m not subscribed through Apple, I have a yearly plan through Britbox directly). You can cancel out and nothing happens, which makes their tech support rep’s claim it’s Apple’s fault absurd- Apple doesn’t need this information for the app to function. One out of hundreds on my devices does this.
Signal breaks up during viewing
Recently happened & all other channels working ok but not Britbox.
Worst TV experience
Long time subscriber and love the content. The stars are for the content alone because the app is by far the worst of any streaming experience on AppleTV. Watch next is completely broken due to their premium early access model. When a new episode appears and you click it, it says you have to install this app. So I did, which required me to move from a channel subscription to app subscription, which I did. Picked the yearly since I love the content. But the watch next is still broken forcing me to manually open the app and check each show, writing down when it will actually be available. Once it IS finally watchable, you still can’t click it from the TV app as it will prompt you to subscribe to the channel instead. I subscribe to 4 streaming apps and 3 channels and none of them have this problem. This was once one of my favorite providers and is now just a constant source of frustration. I regret signing up for yearly trying to fix these issues.
Samsung Tv App feedback
In my experience with the BritBox app on Samsung TVs, the highlight color for navigation controls (such as play, forward, or next episode) is so faint that it’s difficult to see which control is selected. Additionally, when returning from the control menu back to playing, the app retains the previous control selection, which can be confusing. Ideally, it should reset the selection. Finally, pressing the back button exits the show entirely instead of just dismissing the controls. A more standard behavior, similar to Netflix, would improve the user experience.
Great dramas
Love the true stories
Great shows awful app
Fix it or lose customers. Never had so much stress with an app. My Bluetooth headphones don’t allow me to pause or play show. I have to physically touch the screen for these commands - iPad. This is an isolated issue only with britbox. All other apps my headphones are fully functional. If I clicked play or pause headphones would play iTunes even when it wasn’t open and while Britbox was still playing. Again not an issue on other streaming apps. I deleted iTunes to avoid the issue when I click pause/play out of habit. I tried the troubleshooting suggestions with no luck only anger that I am wasting time and energy attempting a work around for something I pay service for. Fix your app don’t tell me how to stand on my head to try to fix your app problem. I tried logging in to the web to watch. Play and pause worked but picture wasn’t as good and I inadvertently deleted a few shows in my watchlist. This was due to trying to click on show in watchlist it wouldn’t play but had an x in the box that somehow removed show instead of playing when u clicked in box. Thought I was smart getting more content directly from Britbox instead of the Amazon add on. Instead I’m furious. Have delayed calling customer service to avoid being angry with more attempts to fix what I shouldn’t have to fix. Such great intellectual content. Get your app and streaming to catch up with it.
WHY NO PiP?
Love the selection of shows but it is so annoying that this app doesn’t have Picture in Picture. Seriously making me consider deleting it.
My 4th Negative Review
Britbox is by far the most unstable app on Apple TV. I continually demands that the password be entered and only recognizes it half the time. I am required to reset my password more than I would like. I never have these issues with any of the other apps. Please find someone who can design a stable app.
Great Content. Horrible App
We absolutely love the content. But charging extra for "premium" content seems a bit like a "bait and switch" tactic. As for the app, the navigation is so rudimentary it's simply awful.
Nothing new.
I’ll cancel in November when it’s time to renew
Constant Crashing, constant harassment
If I chose one particular plan maybe it’s what I could afford. I don’t need to be reminded over and over to UPGRADE. It’s not helping that the damned app crashes right after and sometimes during an episode. I am dissatisfied.
Great selections but….
I love the selection on BritBox but hate that I can’t download them to watch on the go.

Good content annoying app
There’s loads of good content on here but the functionality and user friendliness of the app leaves a lot to be desired. You can’t start a season or show over without having to go episode by episode and reset them due to the way the autoplay works on the app it leaves almost a minute of the show unplayed so the auto play goes and your trying to rewatch it without manually resetting each episode just plays the last minute then onto the next episode one minute plays then the next episode starts. Maybe instead of wasting money on rebranding you could spend it on a start from beginning button…
