- Payment processing fails or is blocked
- Customer support is unresponsive and slow
A superb window for seeking teachers
Excellent resources for learning languages worldwide
Terrible👎👎👎
There aren't any good tutors here for under $30. They're unqualified and have no education!!! They're constantly rescheduling lessons!!!! And the app itself doesn't offer refunds!!!! I don't want to waste my money, and I still have $150 left in my account.
Difficult navigating
I find that navigating to the lesson/ video via the Classroom is cumbersome. We always default to Google Meet. This needs to be simpler!!

Great connecting native speakers / meh UI/UX
Fantastic at connecting native speakers A+. Sorry to say it plainly but the solo practice and exercises on the app are not good - the UX/UI stinks and when compared to the gamification, tests and quizzes to Quizlet and other apps, it doesn’t hold a flame. During speaking exercises it will tell me to “capitalize” certain words… I mean, how, it’s a speaking exercise. The format, experience, and process of the testing feels like it’s from the 90’s. Please take lessons from other apps and improve your AI, your practice and exercises, and the UI/UX. If you’re just looking to connect and speaking with native speakers then this app is great.
Amazing app
This is how you learn. Duolingo is ok, but it’s not until you start speaking with natives on Italki that you really have a chance to learn a new language.
Do Not Support AI!
Any organization that embraces AI isn't worth supporting in any way. Support humanity. Reject AI.

Good idea - poor execution
Italki is a great concept and a super way to connect teachers and student. However, the website can be hard to navigate, booking lessons is counterintuitive, and I feel the user experience could be improved significantly. I am glad that I connected with my teacher this way, who is superb, but I wish the user interface was more intuitive and easier to navigate.
Great tutoring
I have been getting instructions from an italki tutor for several months now. She has been professional, courteous, and very helpful. Little by little, I am getting more comfortable and confident conversing in French. I highly recommend this service.
Debit Card Payment
I want to use this platform, but italki literally will not take my money. Every single time I try to book a trial or a regular session, my payment fails.I have tried using my debit card directly, going through PayPal, and testing alternative payment methods. None of them work. My cards are completely fine and work everywhere else, so the issue is entirely on italki's end.It is incredibly frustrating to find a tutor you like, only to be blocked by a broken checkout system. If you cannot even process basic payments, you cannot run a functional service. Fix your system.
Questions
I love this app. My language speaking skills have greatly improved! I don’t like answering those questions after every single lesson. It’s irritating! It’s so irritating that I’ve almost answered wrong a couple of times, just trying to get through it, and I’m sure my teacher would have gotten in trouble. 😳
Great app, but new ui is frustrating
The app itself it great. I would have given it a 5 star review a year ago, but i'll have to give it a 2 because of how extremely cluttered and frustrating the new ui is
Would be five stars without the faux social media features and unnecessary redesign
Love the app to find and learn with teachers. Nothing else comes close. Absolutely hate the overprompting for feedback and socialising - those who want to make friends have plenty of other apps to choose from. And the latest update has reduced intuitiveness and introduced gamification and is trying to force-feed AI... please kill the fish.
Making progress speaking French!
I live my French conversation tutor on italki. She makes me feel brave in speaking. Italki is easy to use too.
The site and app have gone downhill, support is a black hole
I’ve been taking lessons on italki since 2020. I had a complaint about how I feel they treated an amazing teacher of mine unfairly and prevented me from continuing my learning with him. I tried to register this complaint six or seven different ways. ZenDesk form, no confirmation. Support email, no answer. Support bot, claims I am being transferred to a human, human never arrives. Corporate email, nothing. I can’t so much as get an automated reply with a ticket number assigned. I’m beginning to question if any humans still work there. Do yourself a favor and use Preply instead.
It’s okay
I’ve used italki for about a year learning German. I discovered it in a Reddit thread and I have a fantastic tutor. The app is OK but does some weird stuff like it says I have a notification I click on it and nothing‘s there. Or I get a notification there’s some kind of interesting article and I click on it and I find it and then I want to save it for later and I can never find it again. So there’s some CX issues with the app. I don’t use this as my main language app. I only use it to work with my tutor. I don’t use any of the other features other than some recaps and flashcards or something. There just isn’t a way to really organize your stuff and those notifications that go nowhere drive me nuts.
New design is awful
New design is awful. The previous one was better and more convenient. Now I can’t add a lesson to my calendar, it’s a shame
Account...
there was a problem with the account.
Great Experience
I have been taking Mandarine Chinese for over 6 months and I’m really loving this app. I highly recommend.
Deplatformed my favorite teacher
I loved iTalki until they deplatformed my favorite teacher Daniel B. I now do most of my classes on another platform after what they did to him. iTalki does not value their teachers or treat them well.
Best app to learn a language
Probably the most effective way to learn a language. I've been taking privates lessons for Spanish and it's been like a rocket ship for pace of improvement. You can get really talented teachers for a very affordable price. Only docking a star because the video call functionality can be a little buggy and some UI feels clunky.
I hate the new layout with AI
It takes twice as long to find a teacher, it was ok before that. They put AI to help filter out teacher but now it means you have to do more clicking just to avoid the silly AI feature. Not everything needs AI!

Whiteboard cannot work
During the class, italki class system has some systematic issue that whiteboard and ppt cannot share , please help with this issue
Tolle Community
Nice idea , but
The app is buggy. The classroom barely works. During lessons the app breaks down repeatedly. The overall UX is confusing and not consistent. I found good teachers here but learning and interactions with the app terrible
Requesting time
I hope that there is an option to book a tentative time with the teacher rather than asking verbally. This is especially useful when you just can’t find any slots
Take your learning to the next level
Amazing platform to take your learning and understanding of the world to the next level. I have been able to connect with real people who have had a positive role in helping me achieve my goals and accomplishments.
Gute Plattform, viele kompetente Lehrer_innen. Ist wie lernen mit einem Freund.
App needs fixing!
This is more of a follow up to the report/review by user “wakainko” in July 2019 who pointed out that students were no longer able to view to teachers’ videos through the app. I found this to still be the case (14th September 2019) despite a comment from the developers that they would rectify this. The service (italki) itself is good, but I would rather do everything in the app than having to go to mobile/desktop version of the site to search for a teacher, update my profile (!) as well as other things that seem to have become more difficult to accomplish in the app recently.
THE REAL DEAL
italki is an excellent learning app. Hundreds of teachers and conversationalists dedicated to helping you improve your linguistic abilities. You are in control of selecting a tutor who complements your personality and learning style; and, you have maximum flexibility as to scheduling your lessons. If you are serious about learning another language then give italki a try.
Customers service
In-App purchases
I downloaded this app thinking that everything would be free to use since it didn’t say “includes in-app purchases” in the app store. Since I cannot pay… please tell us before hand that in-app purchases are used 🙏
Is there any way you can show teachers videos properly?
I’ve been a teacher on italki and I noticed that a new version doesn’t show some of the teachers introducing videos properly including mine, I quite liked the new version it’d be nicer if you can fix it so that I’d say it’s fair for other teachers as well to obtain new students, it’s a huge disadvantage if they can’t see our videos on the phone. Hopefully it’ll be modified promptly!
Helpful
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but was very happy I tried it.
Easy but fees are expensive
Easy to use the platform and a lot of great possibilities. The fees are too high, however.
There is no back button when opening teacher introduction
There is back button when opening teacher’s introduction. Please fix, very hard to use.

Excellent app
Great teachers and good AI follow-up!
Where is my list of favorite teachers
App language change??
Why cannot the language settings be changed?? It recognizes the time zone and adjusts the settings automatically. What if an expat lives in a foreign country???!
