The main thing I like about the app, is that I can save the downloads directly to files without it being saved on the phone first, like when using IOS-Chrome. Also, you can minimize the app and the audio still plays. With the browser, I can organize my thoughts better.

advertised $98 the charged me $195, then you have to guess which words in the sentence translate into what.
Great, but…
So, I love this app a lot. I Just took the first lesson about Introducing yourself, and It is helpful! The thing is, the app layout is nuts and I can barely find my way around. Would love if that could be more clear, but other than that, AMAZING way to learn and retain information.
App interface sucks
A problem with this app is the fact that some bugs do occur for example there has been a problem when you click on lesson there is a hint that tells you that your able to swipe left and right to switch lesson. The hint is displayed right in the middle of the screen and will not go away even if you swipe between lesson it just keeps popping up. This app has so much potential it just needs to be improved a lot. I recommend using the website on a computer rather than using this app.

Watch Out $$$
They hide the automatic subscription. When you think you did not sign up for it, you did. When you find out they say you did and you ask for a refund one day after, no refund. Not a satisfied customer, like all others, they will rope you in with a trial and continue to up sell waiting for you to be “auto” re-subscribe just to get one more payment out of you. Likely, most people quit this and go to another service.
Great learning tool, app could be tweaked
This app is a great learning tool for me. Ive learned more than I have here than other apps such as Duolingo, the only recommendation I have for the app to fix the bugs. Sometimes videos will randomly pause or after an assessment I’m stuck on a loading screen and have to refresh the app completely to see the score. But besides that, I would recommend this app for learning Japanese! ^^
Do not purchase if using the app
Wonderful lessons genuinely. It’s a shame the app video player works so poorly. It had playback issues that allow it to continue playing forward without audio/skipping frames constantly necessitating that you rewind multiple times per few minute lesson. This is very irritating and makes both using it without the screen on, or with the offline mode virtually unusable.
Costs Money
I don't know why or how but I expected to be able to have Japanese lessons for free. It's almost like joining a job a friend works at thinkin you will get extra pay. I enjoy the variety of languages but most of the features are not free. A lot of people who want to learn a language don't have much opportunity because so many apps and websites and teachers are costly but if you are looking for a bit of extension from JapanesePod101 then here you go.

A great app and learning platform, but bugged beyond functionality on my phone :/
I recently re-downloaded innovative because I much prefer the teaching style to other budget-friendly alternatives, but unfortunately every time I try to open a lesson, the app completely freezes indefinitely. When I try to review previous lessons, I'm met with an unending loading screen. When I relaunch, the same occurs. I can still view the word of the day and previous words of the day, but that's about it :/ If this can be patched or if someone can walk me through a potential solution, I'd be grateful and happily rate five stars; it's just unfortunate I can't actually use the app right now.
Overpriced and constantly upselling
I purchased a Premium subscription and am regretting it about a month in. The app isn’t nearly as full-featured as the website, despite paying a pretty high price for a premium subscription. If this was a new app, I would allow some slack for this failure, but JapanesePod101 has been around for more than a decade. You can’t even study flash cards from the app… you can only add select words from the lessons, and new words introduced in the lessons aren’t always included in the vocabulary module, which is the only way to add words to the word bank. Confused? Get ready for even more confusion and web searching just to figure out how to navigate and use this app. There’s a lot of promise in the content but the execution and user interface are so bad that you either can’t use basic language learning components like vocab or you’re stuck rehashing content you’ve already learned. Oh, and the upsell is constant! From daily nag-mail touting limited time upgrades to in-app shills, Innovative is worse than the upsell I get every time I take my car for an oil change. Since I’ve paid for a year upfront in the hopes of getting more structured ear-training, I’ll update this review if things get better or worse. But at this point, I’ve seen much better language-learning options for far less.

Word of the day
The word of the day display makes it hard to read the choices. The background is blue and the words seem to be buried in it . Although I didn’t always use it, there is no hint or picture as before. It’s the same for four of the languages I am studying. Please go back to the old background!

Where is my record button?
I have downloaded the app on both my iPhone and my iPad Pro but when I open a lesson the Dialogue is a recording and not a review allowing me to record and compare my pronunciation. I am a Premium subscriber. To use thr record for comparison I need to use the website swedishpod101.com lessons.

App doesn’t work
I can get to my dashboard after i log in but when i try to click on any lessons it just freezes and i cannot actually do anything on the app. I really hope this will be fixed but from reviews it looks like an ongoing issue.
Great app but…
This is a great app for learning Japanese once you pay for premium. However, I would like to see the app integrate flash cards like on the website (something similar to Anki might be nice as well), as well as the new AI feature (if you pay for premium plus). The thing I like most about the app is the ability to set on autoplay and listen to lessons as I commute. The break down of new vocab is great for pronunciation and attuning your ear to pitch accent. If they were quicker about rolling out their newest features (they are notoriously slow) to the app this would be a 5 star review.
Not user friendly
Only using the app for Greek and it is just a random collection of lessons, there isn't a specific order to follow and it's not very clear where to start or how to progress through the curriculum. The lessons are all just listening to audio files, I haven't found any yet that are interactive.
New language learner
For the premium tier level price we should have access to more than one language.
Greatest app EVER
Never learnt a language so fast and the unique way on learning it through listening helped me understand the language much faster than any other language learning tool that I have used previously.
Audio stops
Before I review the app, let me say that Japanesepod101 is at least a four star service. But, that means very little when the app used to access it just stops playing audio in the middle of a lesson. This happens all the time, and I have to open my phone and find where I was and start over again. I have no such issues with any other streaming service on my iPhone. Since I prefer listening to the lessons while walking instead of on my desktop (where it works fine) this makes it not worth my time, and therefore not worth the amount I spent for a premium subscription. I’ll put my dollars elsewhere next time.
Its good
Mostly good. Im learning loads. Some suggestions: -make a playlist function. I would love to add all the review tracks to a playlist to review them. -tracker, Id love to see how often I engage with the app, some elements of gamification where there could be streaks or progress tracking.
Constant bugs - be warned
Great classes but the app has become unusable in the last few months. Constantly shutting down, force logging out. It’s impossible to finish a lesson. Very poor response from the app support, don’t feel they’re taking it very seriously.

Been using Japanese Pod 101 for more than a year. The content is great and I recommend it to others. The app itself is prone to crashing and needs to be constantly redownloaded. I’ve redownloaded the app more than 10 times.

Great content but some features missing.
Using Japanesepod101 -You get a lot of content for the prime subscription as others have mentioned. Videos, audio, lesson notes and there’s bound to be something for everyone at whatever level you are at(I’m at lower intermediate). However, it’s missing some much needed features to make this the only app you would ever need. 1. wish that I could tap on any word and add it to my word bank, or manually edit it, but I can only add certain words from each lesson. 2. I would really like that when the word was added to the word bank it had a link to say what lessons it is used in, or the one that added it from so that I see the word in context. 3. Often I am reading the transcript and I come to a word I don’t know. It would be great if it it had a pop up feature like yomiwa (free) where all words have the Kama reading of the kanji, a colour underline of words that have been read before, words that are new, and grammatical features. I can then tap on a word or grammatical feature and a quick useful definition pops up or what other lessons feature that grammatical structure. 4. It would be really useful if could search for a word or grammatical item and then a list of lessons which contain that word or grammar comes up for me to check. Also their website tech help page is out of date by a few years. For example, the RSS feed says that I can simply use iTunes. iTunes has been discontinued and separated into Apple Music and podcasts. Apple Music cannot download the feed such as the pdf.
App is ok I guess
I just started using this app to learn French. Even though I’m not an absolute beginner, I plan to do all the lessons as a refresher. So far, I think the app is OK but I just wish that the worksheets had audio. I think it would be a good feature to help tune your ear, and get acquainted with the language. I also wish that they had more hours of content. I guess I was expecting more considering how much I spent on a lifetime membership. It would also be helpful to have recommendations to supplement your learning. We’ll see how this goes.

Hasn’t been working or loading
I keep signing in and then when I click start my lesson it stays stuck on the loading page then kicks me out. It also gets stuck sometimes and freezes. Not sure what’s changed.
Love and hate
The online version is pretty good and I like it. You do have to pay if you want the better of it though. The app is not as good. It’s lacking lots of features that are online that I would love to have I. The app. For example: being able to speak into the phone to check pronunciation not available in app. No dictionary in app. As it has online. It also doesn’t seam to sync well with app and online. I can choose any lesson, it’s just unclear where I was lesson wise. Maybe that’s just more of an unclear layout. So online good and app not quite as good, but still useful. I’m learning Danish.
Very glitchy
I spent about $50 on the premium version of the app but the app (once again) behaves like it isn’t premium and on many occasions will not allow me to access the premium features or go beyond the free lessons offered to all.

Urdupod101
The Urdu classes available through urdupod101 are the best materials I have found online for learning to read and listen to Urdu. I’ve found the depth of information and the way it is presented on the site to be both engaging and progressive, perfect for a learner trying to pick this difficult language up during lockdown. The app itself seems to have less functionality than the website version though, so I tend to use the browser rather than the app. And both unfortunately have several bugs with the way the Urdu script is presented, and have lots of typos and errors throughout the lessons. I guess this is still better than the alternatives, but it would be even better if the bugs could be addressed and the lessons had a good editor look through to pick out the (every other sentence or so) typos that can be a bit distracting.
freezing cant go into any lessons
i read the update and said it fixed the loading sign whenever going into a lesson but it still happens for me i try going into any leasson and redownloaded the app multiple times but the problem still occurs

The first problem was that you had to answer fourty questions!and the second one is that the audio is way too fast but overall it’s a good app

Beginner Season 1 with Peter
Awful! Supposed to be a lesson but more of a talk show. Too much joking around, laughing, off topic nonsense chatter. Similar to two jokester kids who can’t take anything seriously. Even times they display a flirtatious vibe towards one another. No professionalism whatsoever. To make matters worse, when you have to listen to the talk show segment a second time, it’s excruciating painful torture. You’re forced to listen to the same stupid jokes, hearing them laugh again about things that aren’t even funny and the several other off topic interruptions throughout the course. God forbid you have to listen it a third time for review. I paid to learn not listen to a talk show and hear two people playing around. I can do that for free on YouTube.

When I first started learning Japanese it was so frustrating but after I got the app it felt much easier and enjoyable. The only bad thing is that you have only 7 day’s before you start paying.
Reliability issues
The app itself is really well presented and great for learning. But when I’m switching between lessons often I’ll have a loading circle that never finishes. I end up closing the app and restarting. Very annoying. Anyone else experience this? I’m on iPhone 14.
