App will not recognize iphone subscription
Sent in an email to help, so hoping they will restore my purchase. I would guess Mother Jones loses readership because of issues with Magzter.
No access to past articles despite subscription
Subscription terms are very unclear, I signed up for a annual sub but cannot access any older magazines or articles. Will not be renewing because of this, which is a shame since the reporting is excellent.
Not for mobile
I do value the quality of writing but they should not sell a mobile version if they aren’t willing to take the time to actually make it mobile-friendly, as most others have done.

I have a been a subscriber for a long time and always happy to support Mother Jones. I wish the app was more similar to the website and also supported dark mode.

I paid for a subscription but CANNOT access the content of the magazine on the app. Infuriating!
Set-up was not seamless, but back issues can be read
Edit—Down to two stars. The app is not recognizing my purchase. I am unable to read Mother Jones. Unable to contact Magzter through the app—there is a forever spinning wheel. I don’t why it is so hard to make an app that can see what subscriptions the user has and allows them to see said purchased content. My subscription renews on 11/5, so that is not the issue. I am going to see if Mother Jones is still printed and dispense with this crappy app. Edit—Ok, I’m upping an initial 1 star to four stars. I am able to read articles from back issues in the “Articles” section. I am now assuming that I can forever read all the issues that occur during my subscription but only back issues whilst the subscription is current. Other than the set-up and my confusion over back issue access, the articles look good in the app. I should have also mentioned that Magzter did respond to my emails promptly. I’m hoping that after reading the magazine itself I can up the rating to 5 stars. I am writing a note to myself to update this review should I get everything working. My story—I purchased a one year subscription through the app store and downloaded the Mother Jones app. It didn’t recognize me and I ended up downloading the Magzter app. With some back and forth with Magzter help, I got the Mother Jones app to recognize me, but the Magzter app while recognizing me doesn’t acknowledge that I purchased Mother Jones. Finally, In the Mother Jones app I am able to open the latest issue! Alas, prior issues are shown with two buttons “Preview” and “$6.99”. I am interpreting that to mean that one does not get free access to back issues. When I look at the Mother Jones page in the App store, I do not see that prior issues are not provided free with subscription.

Save your money
This app just doesn’t work on mobile and there is no help. As much as I respect MJ and want to read it, it’s not working. I even downloaded Magster and that didn’t help either.
Customer Service is pitiful
I subscribed print and digital. I should be able to download an App for MJ. I cannot and the user ID and password will not work. I wrote the mag but no responses.
Have not used yet - did not know app took $$$ ?
I pushed 5 stars because I love Mother Jones. If I get magazine I assume I could read on app for free. If so, I can read on airplane or while traveling, but I have no desire to pay for an app. I read the other reviews and now have these questions. This is not Mother Jones’ app, it’s an unaffiliated 3rd party App
This app is a Magzster app that focuses on selling Mother Jones. Per Mother Jones, this is not their app. They don’t have their own app. Mother Jones’ digital subscription is hosted through the app Zinio. This app allows you to purchase issues of Mother Jones. There isn’t anywhere to input digital subscription information to access existing subscriptions. This seems to be Magzster’s business model - they currently have 102 other apps pretending to be that of reputable publications. Apple will not take this App down because it is owned by a third party.
Much Better App now
The revised Magster reader which hosts MJ seems to have resolved most of the viewing issues. I read the issue and articles now on my tiny iPhone 6SE and have No Problem. Clear and Normal reading. Like a lot of others here I had given up last year. Also, the separate download of Magster confused and angered me. It’s still not the more funded CondeNast publications but I can say All is well. I can read David Corn. I can read about people I don’t know. Works well and straightforward with my iPad too.
Crap app won’t let me past the Magzter settings
I purchased mother Jones. The app took my money and does not create an account enabling me to view content. Cancelling and getting money back is not easy.

As someone who paid $50 for membership I’ve never received the magazine Martin Gold
I’m cancelling my subscription because this app makes MJ unreadable
Every other magazine app I subscribe to allows text resizing. Not this Magzster version of Mother Jones—ugh. I plan to renew my subscription directly through MJ’s, thereby saving $2 and enabling me to read comfortably sized text.
Paid for purchase but can’t access
I’ve paid to purchase an addition, but when I go to register with Facebook, Twitter or directly with Mother Jones it won’t allow me to complete the registration. User interface is horrible. Very disappointing, was so looking forward to reading the private equity feature.
Journalist integrity
This is definitely the best magazine I read! David Corn is always a hand ahead of more than any others I've read.
Unable to get proper formatting for tablet..,
Unlike a half dozen other magazines that are well formatted for my iPhone & iPad Mini, I'm unable to read my Mother Jones digitally. Unfortunately with my aging eyes I'm no longer able to read my monthly hard copy either. Magster and Zinio have bounced me around - to no avail... hence, sadly enough, and after many years, I'm not planning to renew. Regrets...
