What they complain about

- App is hard to use
- Can't change WiFi settings easily
Leak on first night of vacation
So glad to have this alert and be able to have it taken care of before we returned home a week later to a mess.
Not operational
The sensors, when installed, worked well. Now, the sensors are offline more than they are online. I’m now shopping for new water sensors I can count on and be confident using.
Easy setup, one critique
Just replaced all of my interconnected hardwired alarms, the install and setup and easy and intuitive. My only critique is with alerts. The option to notify me of an interconnected alarm event should be selectable. Since I have all Kidde smart alarms, when one senses smoke, I get that alert as well as 7 other “interconnected alarm activations” this dilutes the actual alarm notification (that matters).
Fine app, terrible usability
The app works fine until the unit(s) start going off randomly when you are out of town. I have cameras and can see there is no fire, but you can't silence it if you aren't on the same network. Honestly, it makes sense, but it becomes unusable. I had to shut off my breaker until I can buy different detectors.
Need info on testing the alarm!
Could not figure out how to test our water alarm and couldn’t get help from Kidde.
Saved my life
The devices from this brand have literally saved the lives of my family and I. Detecting dangerous VOC levels, carbon monoxide and smoke. Amazing and well needed in every household.
Faulty
Late night faulty alarms. For three weeks straight. Cleaned multiple times and no support.
Integrate with HomeKit
This app wouldn’t need to exist if the team integrated with Apple HomeKit The device already is integrated with google home and Alexa which is great
False alarms
Bought this for alerts when I’m not there but once per month it goes off with false alarm. I can’t trust it now. Junk.
It’s 4am and I can’t silence these freeze alerts
I need to monitor for floods in a garage area that sometimes drops near freezing. It’s 4 AM now, and after hushing the freeze alert it starts alerting again and again and again the app provides no ability to disable a freeze detector, and the hush is only temporary for a very short period. I was forced to uninstall the device and move it to a warmer room where I don’t care about flooding. Now I get an alert about a rapid temperature change! This device does not want me to sleep tonight. Please developers, provide me an option to permanently disable the temperature alert on specific devices.
Works great and is awesome!
I live being able to see my house is ok 24/7 and testing alarms on the app!
Constant failure errors
These smart alarms sounded like a great idea but they are constantly giving error messages and going off. I’ve bought four of them and had them professionally installed by two different electricians and they have all failed. Very dissatisfied with this brand.
Displays wrong temp in Celsius
Reads ok but claims 20F instead of 20C
App is OK
I have 2 sensors located in properties we manage. Just 2 weeks into it. Winter is here now so we’ll see. However App could be improved. App does not provide for a forced update at sensor location. When adding a User you can only select Owner as app doesn’t allow scrolling. App does support getting notifications which is important.
Positive experience!
I was originally skeptical of this product, never owned a smart smoke alarm. It works great! Easy to setup, and if I am away from my pets, I feel better that I’ll be notified if smoke is detected
Completely useless. Always signed out.
The app is completely useless. You will immediately be signed out so you never get any notifications. Then you’ll go in and try to sign in, but it doesn’t save your username or password. Then you’ll be spending 15 minutes trying to reset everything and give up and delete it and just move on.
Temperature Unit Issues
The app needs some work to fix the units of the dashboard and the temperature graph when setting is in Celsius. Other than that, seems to work well.
Resetting Wifi network
The software should really be easier to use. It took me about a half hour to figure out how to get to the WIFI reset menu
First Real World Test
Workman sawing into hallway cabinet to install fixtures creating smoke. System notified me on iPhone while I was away! System allowed me to silence alarm after talking to workman. A great system!!
Plenty of false alarms
The many false alarms I could only disable when I was not at my home location. My neighbors were seriously annoyed by the noise and they could do l nothing about it. When I was at home, with nothing possibly to trigger the alarm I resorted to unplug the indicated device, wrapped in towels and moved it to a non disturbing location. After about 20 minutes I could reinstall it with no further hiccups. A 10 year carefree device should not expose the owner of so much regular inconvenience.
Intermittent failure
Every couple of weeks they go offline for no discernible reason, then a couple of hours later they come back just as mysteriously. Not recommended.
Excellent Product
Have been using this for two years. Battery still at 70% and it never goes offline. Very reliable gives me peace of mind
Deceptive
The packaging does not mention you must pay extra for all the data
Alarms are good…app is so-so
So far so good. All features seem to be working ok. However, I cannot use the app to test the alarms. When I press the ‘test’ button in the app, it doesn’t show a ‘confirm’ option. Looks like a poor execution of the pop-up window in the app. Hopefully this gets fixed.
Saved my floors!
My dad bought this water detector for all of the kids one Christmas and I grudgingly set it up. but one night unbeknownst to us, Our washer started leaking water through our baseboards into the basement. I immediately got a loud alert on my phone though the app and ran downstairs to check and while there wasn’t a lot of water (enough for a quick towel mop and some fans) this probably saved me from having to replace my entire flooring. Now it’s a staple and I recommend everybody should get this app and this device.
WiFi
After many, many attempts it won’t connect to WiFi. Should have saved the extra $25 each and purchased regular ones.
Keeps me aware that it’s online and protecting us
I like the smart features and app notifications so if it goes offline or has low battery, I’m aware.
Broken app
Trying to add new device. Turn my network to 2.4 ghz only. Reset the smoke alarm. Can get as far as “ready to connect” and then button is dead. No error message. No advice for next steps. Just no response.
Quality app
Setup for the smoke detectors was incredibly easy and straightforward. App is the same way. I recommend
False alarms!
I have probably 8 Kidde smoke alarms in my house (model P4010ACSAQ-WF). These things are JUNK! We get false alarms way too often that now I just first look to immediately ignore and disarm them after they go off full blast. And it’s typically in the evening or late at night after my kids are asleep. I called Kidde Customer service once. Spent about 45 minutes on the phone with them. She told me that it may be caused by spiders because it’s cold outside. So she suggested I blow the alarms out with compressed air. Did that. Still have an issue. And no…spiders aren’t the problem. What a joke! If I could, I’d get all my money back and throw these away. Don’t bother with Kidde.
Peace of mind
I’m surprised how much I actually love these and how much they give me a piece of mind. We had about 30% of our house flood just over a year ago due to a faulty water softener line. Unfortunately, it took a devastating food and so much flooring and wall repairs for me to purchase a warning system. The model I decided on alerts of water is detected as well as sends an alert to my phone. I can leave my house without worrying about another flood and I can check the status of any of my 5 Kidde Smart Detection alarms. FYI, I got the ones that feature “HomeSafe.”
Poorly thought out app
I switched internet providers which can’t be uncommon. I have been inside the app trying to change the WiFi which was easy to do on every other app I have but Kidde doesn’t have this option so I may have to run it without internet, as now I gave up due to this stupidity of a design.
