- Running features are much worse than cycling
Great App
The Zwift Companion app is a must for anyone riding on Zwift. It shows the route map and other metrics plus it has other functions such as taking screenshots and recording video clips of the previous 15 seconds. You may save the ride from the companion, use the teleport and coffee break functions, etc. As its name implies, it is a perfect companion to the Zwift app!
Buggy & Problematic
Zwift works great for some people and it can be very problematic for others. I’m one of the people who experience a lot of errors, glitches, pairing problems, and total disconnections. When I reach out to customer service they try to get you to ask other users for help instead of the company provided support. Zwift needs to improve the service and their customer support. Having been a user for many years without seeing an improvement on these things, I get a strong impression Zwift management simply does not care.
This is generally good for cycling.
Good for tracking cycling. Not good for running. You can’t favorite run routes or WOs for running like you can with cycling. So, while, I like it for all the cycling I do with Zwift, it’s not good for when I do my Power walks or walk/runs.
Needs a major update
It’s a shame the Developers don’t listen to the users. The app needs an overhaul to work better with iPads 1. Landscape mode. Expanding the portrait to make it bigger isn’t acceptable. 2. Have an option to clear all the ride data (watts, graphs, HR, cadence, map, elevation, etc) from main screen and have all the data on the companion app.
Mixed bag
Cool features but too many instances of bugs for me to rate higher. It’s really annoying to pay Zwift fees and put in the work and not always have your data processed.
So much fun
It’s nice that you can plan everything that you are going to to that’s active who’ll just sitting your couch but I recommend it that you can view people on Zwift even on compion and other small things
Trash
Connections for planned rides never work. I have wasted hours trying to figure out how to get a planned workout from another training app loaded and it won’t work. I’ve cut so many workouts short bc of this stupidity. Then when I give up on trying to figure out how to sync a workout, zwift has no way to co trip the resistance or power when connected to a kickr. Trash
Apple Watch HR monitoring
I don’t know if it is down to Apple or Zwift, but pairing an Apple Watch is a hit and miss affair. It constantly drops connection. Sometimes you get lucky and it connects for a whole ride. It has been this way since I started using Zwift in 2023. I hope one day the problem can be resolved.
Does not close the loop like it’s supposed to
I use Zwift for both running and cycling. What works sometimes for connecting bpm with running works 0% of the time with my cycling setup. So I have a separate system for my cycling setup that works ~60% of the time. If the Companion App (CA)worked as advertised, I’d be able to sync a single Bluetooth BPM sensor to the app and it wouldn’t matter if I’m using an iOS app or a Windows PC. But unfortunately the CA doesn’t work that well. I’ll be spending another couple hundred dollars on devices to try to get this data reliably. Zwift is lucky so many of my friends use it because otherwise I’d just use something else.
Could use some UX improvements
Please get rid of this “up next” thing. It’s useless and in the way. —— The app does what it’s supposed to do, but there are a few things that should be improved: 1. Do yourself a favor and go to the iOS settings app, open the settings for “Companion”, and disallow usage of cellular data. Why an app that connects over Bluetooth/WiFi to a local computer needs cellular data is beyond me. But if left on, the app will frustratingly disconnect and reconnect to riding sessions. Some days it’s fine, but other days it’s constantly interrupting. 2. The feature for tossing out several 👍to nearby riders is fun. What isn’t fun is trying to use it while peddling and the app thinks you tried to click on a tiny white dot representing another rider. Who wants to do that? It’s not like you can pick out a specific rider in this way, what with the cluster of tiny dots and the lack of fidelity in a touch interface. Just get rid of this dumb feature or provide a way to turn it off. 3. Finding events at specific times on specific days is an exercise in frustration. First, you simply select a date from a calendar. No, you have to page through each subsequent day until you get to the one you want. Second, the listing for each day starts at 00:00. Uh, thanks, but I’ll be sleeping at that time. Also, find Tour de Zwift events should be much easier. They added a filter, but it’s super wonky and not all intuitive to enable correctly such that it will show those events. As far as I can tell, it’s impossible to show _only_ TDZ events. So after doing the day and time shuffle, you still have to scroll through a multitude of unrelated events. Really, provide a better calendar interface than this nonsense. Other than all of that, it does what I want: shows a good overview of the map while riding, gives a tool for tossing out 👍s, and lets me sign up for TDZ events.
Fantastic App!
Great app, with all the enhancements that have gone in over the years it really is a one stop shop for Zwift activities and communication. One feature I would add is Zwift pace partner information for the routes they are on and world they are in. Currently I have to go to Zwiftinsider(Which there is nothing wrong with that) to get pacer info.
Breaks AirPods
Newest version makes my AirPods disconnect and reconnect repeatedly and I can’t listen to any music or podcasts during a ride.
Dark mode
Is dark mode coming at some point??
Does not always connect during rides
I’ve had this app for a year now and it was great in the beginning. It connected to zwift on every ride. However for the past 4-5 months, the app rarely if ever connects during a ride even after troubleshooting per the instructions.
Yet another bug with Zwift!
Zwift has come a long way these past years, but it is not uncommon for things to not work properly when they launch! Latest example is Spinback 2025…has been a few days and the video feed is not showing up in my Zwift Companion app. As usual, Zwift does a terrible job setting expectations and providing clear direction on how this will work. They just say that it will be available on Dec 4th but don’t say that they can’t handle the volume so it will take many days for it to show up. They also don’t outline exactly how it will show up. I contacted support and they did not have a good answer! Do better Zwift!!! Your developers should actually use the product so they expertise the customer’s frustrations when things are not working properly!
Works well alongside the main app
No complaints, long time Apple TV user. Switched over to a Mac mini recently and still find this app helpful.
Useless with Apple Watch
I have yet to have it stay connected to my Apple Watch after many attempts. It will connect then I start my ride and disconnected. Tons of wasted time troubleshooting. I hate that I have to fight it every try time to go for an indoor ride.
I love Zwift
Zwift is great and the Companion app is useful. BUT, I need a Help resource to answer some user questions and define some terms. Also, the Help chat function is lame.
Poor support and experience
After spending 1+ hour with support I was still unable to sign up for a membership due to an issue with their payment processor. However their support team was blaming me, despite the fact that I tried multiple devices, payment methods, and browsers. Very disappointing.
Racing filter
It’s overall a great app, I wish its functionality fully matched the Zwift app, also being able to filter races for distance or estimated time complete would be helpful.
Awesome!
Sometimes I catch myself leaning into the turns! Highly recommend.
Data to Apple Health Complete Lost
All the data my Zwift Companion had previously written to Apple Health was severely affected by the latest update. I use a workout app called Athlytic to interpret my cycling workout data from Zwift Companion and ZC is no longer writing data to Apple Health.
Where’s the run miles
Great app, absolutely live on zwift for nearly all my training. Missing the 5th star as Zwift is not counting my run miles and there is no run goals anymore.
Poor app, should be part of the Zwift application.
Not built for iPad, doesn’t always connect, settings are hidden and buried in weird places. Please move these features over to the Zwift app (which is fantastic for the few features if has) and at minimum this app should be rebuilt for iPad as many riders use a tablet as their display. I’m a loyal Zwift user, hardware, software etc, but please please fix this app; it feels like an after thought.
Works 50% of the time
I have the companion app hardwired to the same network as my iPad running Zwift yet during a ride the map will drop out constantly and reconnect when it feels like it. It’s a very average app which Zwift aren’t very interested in fixing.
Awesome but Apple Ultra3 Watch doesn’t connect!
I have used Zwift for years for biking and running with 3 different Apple Watches successfully over the years. Please fix the issue with Apple Watch connectivity. My month old Apple Ultra 3 Watch will not send heart rate through to Zwift. I have tried everything.
2 apps, seriously?
Even if this was a free app needing 2 apps is ridiculous, I should be able to see my past rides and stats in the main app. Then considering the 20 a month they charge, they obviously aren’t spending that on engineers.
Needs chat when we are not cycling by direct message
I’ve had this app for a couple of days and I absolutely love it, but there is one problem can we please add in a message chat also when we’re not zwifting like where are we can have a direct message option on we click someone that you can chat with them without having to being in a club or zwifting in a same server otherwise everything is good just needs some chat fixes
Does not connect when in ride
For several months I have been unable to get the app to resister that I am in a map / ride. No one seems to be able to help and all the advice online is just “yeah sometimes it does that for a while make sure you’re on the same WiFi”. We pay a crazy amount of money in subscription costs this app should work.
Kinda works
For a while no problems. But the last 5 months or so lacks of function with the main swift app. I have deleted and reinstalled, deleted the cache and reinstalled . Both phone and Mac are on the same WiFi. Still no map no controls to rider or chat. I’ve gone through the threads and found a 50/50 of interaction and people who have gotten it working again after it stopped. It’s odd . So it’s really a 2 1/2 stars. Fingers crossed things get worked out soon.
Super helpful
I need to find a route a this helps a lot
Need to make Stats & Recommendations optional
No joke: You could run a marathon and perform 1 rep max lifts on the same day, and this app would call you “Fresh” and recommend an anaerobic workout, because it’s ignorant of other efforts. Helpful for finding events and route planning but awful for fitness & readiness. Unfortunately fitness & readiness are being placed front and center with no option for turning off.
Hi
How do you chat during a ride on companion on a kids acc?
Degraded functionality
Just doesn’t work consistently anymore
Watch still won’t track heart rate
All the years Ive used Zwift and Ive had maybe 2 times when the Apple Watch successfully recorded heart rate in-game
Love Zwift since 2018.
Love it
can’t remember my kickr core
worked for years no problem now every time i log on i have to select the only trainer that ive ever used and has wver been connected. multiple updates without fixing it so i guess thats how they want it. Thanks for wasting my time.
Great app, unless your wifi connection drops
Overall, I have found this app to be a great way to interact with Zwift in-ride. However, the it seems to disconnect regularly. I put this down to poor wifi connection in my house, but it’s still irksome. I use Zwift on my iMac with no wifi issues at all, but the companion app occasionally struggles. On one occasion I tried to connect my power meter and other devices via the companion app. This was a mistake as the connection dropped multiple times mid-ride, so I had to play catch up which was exhausting. Since then, I have always connected my hardware via bluetooth only.
Latest Version Forces Fitness Tracking and Goal Setting
I guess Zwift won’t let me just ride now, I have to set a goal and have a training plan, like I don’t already have a half dozen apps that are doing that.
Great when it works.
Very temperamental some days it will connect no problem other days it doesn’t. Must be a better way of connecting to zwift.
Great Companion!
This is a great app for Zwift. I enjoy being able to track my progress, events, and what others are up too. Very smooth and runs without issues. Only suggestion is being able to look at and sign up for training plans. They aren’t on the app at all and only able to be viewed on the Zwift game itself.
Randomly freezes and ruins races
Completely locks up randomly and there is nothing you can do but force quit the app
Apple watch issue continues
As of June 2nd Apple watch issue still persists. App also not showing controls when in workout. Get your act together.
On workout screen
Companion app doesn’t load workout screen, both Mac and iPhone are on same WiFi
T
Works ok most of the time
Lost dashboard
With new update the fitness dashboard disappeared.
Will not connect
After the latest update it will not connect to my Apple Watch for heart rate. It used to work flawlessly, but even after restarts and reinstalling it refuses. Also the app used to have an option for the map view and a data view for ride metrics, now it is only showing the map view which I don’t find useful at all, I like to have the data screen so everything is larger and easier to read and it makes it look like a head unit. There is already a map on the screen. It’s too bad to see how the functionality of this app is declining with how expensive the platform is.

Please show comparisons to previous rides
No longer works with Mac
Used to work great, but in the last few days I have not been able to use CA whilst using Zwift on my MacBook. I’ve followed all the guides to resolve this but still doesn’t seem to work.
. Annoying
Message function to others on the group keeps malfunctioning. Switching back to main page. Possibly as I’m using phone to Bluetooth music to a speaker? I can’t see any correlation though.
