Loving the app!
Such a great and fun app to add to my Japanese studies. I used to use anki and migaku, which are great, but i honestly then got a bit tired farming for my own content. this app is so good for allowing me to just look up a specific word i want to learn, and find a clip with it being used. Im also grateful for the creator if the app for being open to suggestions and being so active with updates and hot-fixes. Overall, 10/10 experience so far and cant wait for whats to come!
Misleading
給料じゃあない、広告は違うよ。$50 a month is insane just to watch YouTube in Japanese that looks like it was vibe coded with ChatGPT.
Looked promising but was buggy
I saw an ad for this and thought I would give it a try. I was impressed with the features and it seemed promising but my videos wouldn’t load, which for me defeated the whole point of this learning method. When the problem is fixed I would try it again but probably not worth the money right now.
Concept good but incorrect
Very first feed video had the subject marker は as "ha" and not "wa". I don't trust it.
Kiku App: Good idea, Lacking execution
I like the idea of the app, but I found that there was no real way for the app to know what type of content I wanted to see, so I just kept seeing random things which made it less enjoyable, so that was a big deal for me. Also the speech to text accuracy is defnitely lacking, there are many times where the word is wrong or diffrent to what the person actually said. That and there should be an easier way for people who already know many words in Japanese to be able to siphon through them. I had to manually tell the app that I “learned” them before and it became really tedious, maybe if i could choose “learned” on the side then press on the words i want to mark as that, then press on it again to choose “familiar” or something and then press on all the words that apply, kind of like a paint system, because as it stands it’s just way too slow. I wish there was a way to see the words you see the most/you press on the most, so that way you can know to go back to them more often.
Five stars
Very good app, only issue I’ve found is the manage subscription button on the Mac store doesn’t seem to work.
Please find a way to fix this issue. I cant be the only one
The idea of the app is really cool but unfortunately none of the videos load for me. I tried using a different network and using a vpn like it suggested but still nothing. I just get a grey youtube error asking me to log in to verify im not a bot but it wont even let me log in either. I was really excited about the app but didn’t even get to try it out because even the very first tutorial video didnt load.
Great way to learn
Really cool app I love the design and the explanations are top tier, it’s not just a dictionary definition, it’s well put. However the subtitles sometimes don’t line up, for instance if the person takes a break from talking the subtitles keep moving on which is a bit annoying, overall great app.
Complicated and a little glitchy
I see how the concept could work but the app is glitchy and isn’t beginner friendly all of the videos were moving to fast.
Great app
This app is awesome, it’s really sped up my learning!
Fishing, Advertised as free but is not
If this was a paid app, you should just put the price on the app per download rather than a predatory subscription. People have enough subscriptions in their life to deal with, an extra 10 dollars a month or 60 yearly isnt worth it. The instagram advertisement, though not explicitly stating, as well as it being free to download on the app store, implies that the app is free or has a free version. It does not. Do not download this unless you want yet another 10$ payment to nickel and dime your paycheck each month. May consider changing my review and redownloading if a free version comes available.
Quite genius actually
Nice combo of learning methods that actually work, feel confident this can help
Needs a free version or one-time purchase
Saw this app on YouTube and thought it looked pretty cool, but of course I should’ve known it’s another app locked behind a monthly subscription. We really are to the point where you will own nothing and be happy about it. I would consider using this app if there was a free version that ran ads or had limited functionality, or if the app was a one time purchase rather than a subscription. It’s simply not something worth paying for monthly.
It's great!
I love it so far, it's super helpful and the clips are short and useful for learning. I like that you can adjust your level of Japanese easily and turn translations, romaji, etc on and off. I'm currently doing the free trial, I might consider subscribing (which is huge as I usually refuse to pay for anything). The biggest issue is that it seems poorly optimized, and makes my phone very hot. I scrolled for 20 minutes, no charger, and my phone was extremely hot to the touch. This is strange, as I play HD mobile games (Genshin Impact for example) and they don't cause overheating.
It’s pay bruh everything. Gives you like a lil taste then the rest is pay
Pay to do everything
Ehh
It’s hard to say whether this app is good or not due to the immediate pay wall. If it was actually free I’d see the potential
The Best Japanese App I’ve Found
I found Kiku through TikTok, and I absolutely love it. It’s incredibly helpful and genuinely the best resource I’ve found for learning Japanese. I’m excited to keep using it as I work toward becoming fluent. I honestly can’t say enough good things about this app. The creator is a genius!
Scam
Good that you know how to advertise it without mentioning that it s not a free app
Incredibly helpful
The app has been incredibly easy to use and very helpful being able to click on each individual word and look back at it later!! I’ve also not found any issues within the app in terms of translation or they’re being a word missed. It’s also really nice with learning natural Japanese and how to use particles and the sentence structure. 10/ 10 recommend this. It is really nice for easy and quick learning. It’s doesn’t feel like you’re learning out of a text book!!!!
Love thisss
I am literally hooked into learning Japanese now
Amazing!
I’ve felt stuck trying to memorize the alphabet, and this has literally changed the game for me! Honestly I’ve learned more Japanese since I downloaded the app, than 6 months on any other app. 100% recommend!
Great app!
I love this app! It has helped me so much!
Great App for a Fair Price
I see people complaining about the the pay wall but this app is definitely worth the money. You even get a 7 day free trial that you can cancel at any time. For about $50 a year which is like $4 a month you get access to videos with word time syncing, ai grammar breakdowns, example sentences, definitions, the different pronunciations of a word and auto generated flash cards that you can review at anytime whenever you click on a new word. Another feature that I love is that there a watch history / save feature so if you accidentally close the app you can find the video you were watching again. Another awesome thing is that everytime you review a word it’s color progresses from white (new) to dark orange (mastered) through multiple stages. One thing I do have to note is that sometimes the app will close when clicking on a word while scrolling. Another thing is that sometimes the AI description won’t generate but there’s an easy fix. Just click on the definition button next to the AI one and click back. It should be fixed after doing this 1-3 times. Overall a great app and I highly recommend it 🔥
