We’ve been using common sense for years and it’s a great resource on knowing what’s age appropriate for our kids. Happy to subscribe
Should be free
This is a great app for parental and self discretion however, the fact that you only have a limited amount of searches before the app requires a subscription is a complete disappointment. Discretionary data should be available to all viewers for free. Common Sense should be able to supplement funds from ads and sponsors to be able to create a FREE app to aid viewers with an unpaid option that acts as a guide to help us decide for ourselves what is morally right and wrong to watch based on our own moral compass
Limited Access
Limited access is really boring. It’s like someone tells you “Do you want to watch this movie?” But the age range is like messed up on your tv. Same thing with “Your Name.” We had the rating PG but I recommend it TV-PG.
Terrible but good
Common sense ruins my life because I am a kid and d all my friends are watching these awesome movies but I can’t because my parents look them upon this app but it is a good way to keep younger kids safe from all the bad movies.
Over rated
This app while being considered good has a problem with kids maturing and exaggerates about language, drugs, sexual talk, and violence. Kids see stuff like this all the time in school so I feel it is exaggerated. It is also expensive and does not offer enough content for people without a subscription

My only problem is that you have to pay to see the information about stuff unlimited because it’s very limited what you can see if you don’t pay.

I was shown the review page for ONE movie before everything went behind paywall. Not a few a day or week, just straight to year long commitment. Been to the website and its great, this app is just greedy, looking for too big a commitment after no review time. Pass
Great app but glitchy
This is a really good app for movie reviews but if the developers see this I can’t sign into my account because of something it always says something went wrong even when I make a new account
Informed decision
Takes those awkward moments away from parents and kids or teens. You can check any movie and just know what is coming , what to expect. That’s what I like. I get to decide what we watch . We will watch rated R movies if there is little sex and mostly violence . That’s our decision and I get to make that informed decision because of common sense !

Great app but has limits
If you are looking for great movie and book reviews this is a great app. But if you don’t pay you only get three free reviews, so there really isn’t much this app is good for unless you pay. But it is a great app nonetheless.
Worth it
With all the options for getting opinions on things I have always found Common Sense to give a balanced and reasonable overview. I subscribe to it because I feel this type of content should be supported.

This is basically a paid app. Unusable without a subscription. The app is nice from what I could tell. Just use IMDB for free…
Content recommendations - author Sophie Torro
I have used this site for years to look things up and just got the app. The variety of suggestions is pretty diverse and I love the new content mixed with retro movies like from the 60’s. I thought I could add a recommendation or give feedback for some books from a new to me author I really like after I read her series but her books are not on the site to add comments and there is no place for recommendations for content to suggest the author and books which is disappointing. I just read her Wolves of Elementa series after she came to my sons school. Her books are the same style as Wings of Fire but equally enjoyable in a less dark and violent tone, way more content appropriate for grades 3-6. They are a great series to start with before Wings of Fire, which are awesome and I have read the whole series, but pretty dark and violent in parts and better suited for grades 7-9 maybe grade 6 in my opinion. Please consider.
Too expensive
Great platform, and the ability to take in both parent and kids reviews is really useful. But the subscription cost is way too high! £40 a year doesn’t provide value for money. In my opinion they should switch to an ad supported model, with an option to remove ads for an IAP. To me £1 a month would be reasonable.
Decent but buggy
I signed up for the service a year or so ago, not to dictate to me what was worth watching but to see if there were things that weren’t appropriate for the kids. The service is good, but the app wouldn’t let me log in for months. Finally had to use the change password option and put my password back in to function. Needs work.

Horrible App & Subscription Issues
I paid for an annual subscription and the app never recognized the purchase so would never let me have the perks as if I had fhe paid for subscription and I still had to pay for the subscription as I paid for the annual subscription. Just horrible….

Unless you’re willing to pay you don’t get to view much, for example:when I set up a free account I viewed three items and was then asked to pay for continued use.

Great until we had to pay to use it! It gave good information and knowledge about how old u should be to watch or read something but I went on it one night to look up a movie and found out I have to pay or not use it! I know they have to make money somehow but some ppl are at the age where stuff is either too old or too young! So I would give u a 5 but I really don’t want to pay
Ok
This is a good resource for parents but not always fair to kids; for instance there could be a great game or movie that was rated poorly on CSM and therefore kids aren’t aloud to watch it. What’s good is that they do allow people to write their own reviews but they rate the game based off of what they think, not other people. It’s put me in unfair situations many times.
Great resource
I love this resource, especially as a homeschool mom/teacher, they used to have free memberships for homeschool teachers. I’m not sure if they still do.
Logging in
Common Sense Media is great, the app continuously requires us to log in changing passwords.
Functional but Pointless
While the app itself seems pretty good and has some useful features, the free version only allows a handful of "reviews" (just looking at the information) per month before it requires a subscription. But for people not ready to add yet another paid subscription to their lives, the website doesn't have these restrictions and I'd recommend just using that instead. I like the idea of custom recommendations for my kid, but I'm not willing to pay for info that's also available for free from the same source.

Have repeatedly paid for the annual subscription but can’t actually use the app. Great at taking money from me, not great at letting me use the app.

What?!
Downloaded this because I used to use the website a lot years ago, and didn’t realise they’d released an app, only to find that you have to pay a subscription to REVIEW things? What kind of bloodsucking corporate nonsense is this? This is only useful for seeing OTHER reviews in case you want to see if some kind of media (film, series, game etc) is suitable for someone that doesn’t actually reach the official age rating; if you’re looking for actual reviews, well: Films, use Letterboxd Books, use Goodreads Series, use Trakt or Letterboxd again Games, use Metacritic or Backloggd SWERVE this! PAYING to REVIEW things is utter insanity
My go-to app for book parental ratings
I love that the age ratings are based on content, not just reading ability level. ( After all, porn has an average reading level of 6th grade.) I also love that it’s done by a group of competent human beings; it’s not AI or crowdsourced from students. It makes it more comparable to the ESRB and MPA game and movie ratings. Add to that the fact that it’s a nonprofit and this is my first choice of parental ratings and content information!
No support available
Love common sense media so when I saw there was an app I jumped at it. However, I can’t sign in. I tried my website account credentials, resetting the password, trying a new account (where the only ‘birth years’ available were 2008-2011!!!) and just kept getting the ‘oops something went wrong’ message. Tried clicking on the Contact Us button on the website and was sent to a page saying the URL didn’t exist any more and if I had clicked a link to get there to report it. The link to report didn’t work!!!!!! So. No app for me.
