Great app!
This is a really fun chess app. It has a lot of ways to engage, and it’s a great way to sharpen your skills. Check it out!
Great app but frustrating screen movement issue
Title: Great app but frustrating screen movement issue I’ve enjoyed using the ICC International Chess Correspondence App, but there’s a major flaw that makes playing on mobile frustrating. When moving pieces during a game, the entire screen shifts or slides around with finger movements. This makes it difficult to focus on the board and can lead to misclicks or accidental moves. I suggest the developers look into how other platforms like Lichess or Chess.com handle this — their boards stay locked in place during gameplay, allowing for smoother, more intuitive touch interaction. Fixing this would greatly improve the playing experience and make the app much more user-friendly for mobile players. Hope to see this addressed in a future update!
Fine app but
There’s a serious battery drain problem. The phone runs hot and the battery drops to perilously low levels instantaneously. Make sure you play only while charging.
The app crashes
The app crashes While playing - suddenly you the game disappears - also several times the opponent left and it did let me claim victory.
Could be better
The GUI is blah and not user-friendly. Worse: There are quite a few puzzles that have more than one solution. Yet, your app does not take that into account and unfairly deems a solution wrong. Strangely, there is no contact email. Email, to the one provided in the newsletter, bounces.
Great app!
Very enjoyable and rewarding way to play chess. The historical daily puzzles are very nice and worth solving. The newer Puzzle Quest is also great.
Lousy unworkable app plus cheaters everywhere
Lousy app it is difficult to move pieces. Also no tourneys ICC seems to have copied by generating fake accts. In addition, acct sharing is rampant if no AI generated players. This is sad for ICC to sink so low.
Good chess app
I reviewed this app years ago and talked about the challenges of an IOS user not being able to delete completed games. Well that hasn’t been resolved as of yet but I’m not mad. It’s still a strong chess app even for IOS users. The function to manually accept challenges isn’t working for me. I wonder if that too is an IOS thing.
The new interface is horrible
I have been playing in this app for a few years. It was simple, easy to get a game, and gave you a fairly accurate reading of your rating. There were some bugs but they generally fixed them. The new interface is horrible. It’s distracting when playing, it takes longer to get a game, and I lost all my previous ratings.. the one feature they added that was a positive was it shows you how it calculated your rating score at the end of the match. But it’s not enough to put up with this and I will not be renewing my subscription.
Inconsistencies
Why is this app taking steps back? iPad version is now stuck on vertical which makes it unusable. Options for game boards and pieces are limited more than the previous old version.
Long live landscape mode!
Stoked that they’ve enabled use of landscape mode again. Makes the experience so much better on iPad, IMO. Puzzle Quest is currently my favourite feature. I play every day in an effort to help keep my mind sharp.
Are you serious??? Can’t even change screen orientation on iPad to landscape (horizontal)!!!
I’ve been on this online club for decades, but seeing this latest app… it is just so terrible I am forced to look for another alternative!
Where Are The Customizable Buttons?
Bring them back! It would be bigly huge and the best ever!
Good for NASA maybe
Navigating this app as a beginner is like getting the moon rocket ready for launch. Ridiculous really.
The best I've found, 5 stars if it wasn't for battery drain
In terms of features this is exactly what i need. Internet play is quick and easy and it has options to pause the game. The absolute best in terms of features. My review is 3 stars because of two things: 1. Battery drain whilst playing. What could it do so much during play? I have it on both my iphone 8 and ipad air 2020, same thing on both (both on the latest OS) 2. on the ipad it crashes often when switching apps. The only workaround i can do os to use side by side apps I will change my review to 5 stars if these two things get fixed. I am happy to provide repro steps if the developer wants to look into it Great app otherwise, it would be a shame if it stayed like this!
Finally fun chess app!
The whole family plays love this game
Update is awful
I’ve been playing on here for years but I’ll be canceling my membership. Update has ruined the site. It used to be great. Nothing is the same. Rated games are flooded with guest players whose ratings are useless. I don’t see any of the old players from before on here anymore either. They must have all cancelled as well.
Liking it...
Good user interface. I love the way it records your game, so that you can replay and analyse it later.
old fashioned
It is painful play chess with such app, running slow even with a super fast internet connection. Besides those guys never make an up date.
Bigger Board
The ICC app for iPhones is alright. I just wish the board took up more of the screen and the pieces looked bigger.
Great Update!
Love the new update, everything is easier to find and there are players of all skill level. Able to play puzzles for hours without boredom
pointless app
it’s basically the ICC mobile website loaded in embedded browser
ChessICC
Still missing time warnings
Just fine
Chess.com is far superior. If you’re paying for ICC you should really switch over to chess.com. It took me way too long to try chess.com and I’d never even think of going back to ICC. Chess.com is better in every way. Game play. Interface. Practice. Puzzles. Availability of opponents. Way too many advantages to list. Find out for yourself. ICC is old, tired, and outdated.
Adding challenges
Really would be nice to add a challenge without using the console
Great
I’ve read the history of this chess site, ICC. I’m happy those computer programmers did what they did. It made for the phenomenal chess site where I can play chess every day. It is truly the way the chess site is advertised: The premier chess site of the entire world. Thank you, Mark
Please fix this.
After the update, the app took a big step backwards. Things that MUST be fixed: - when analyzing past games you must show the clock for each player as you step through the moves - when you show the game history you must show my rating after each game, not just my opponents rating. You also need to show how the game ended (checkmate, time expired, resigned, or draw). - the game history should be a menu item, not a submenu of Analysis
Time to update this app
I keep getting a message that the app is going to slow down the iPad, and will shortly be incompatible with Apple updates.
Good with some glitches
Over all responsive and easy to play with. Had some glitches like reverse time counting. My move was shown and my time was running. Sometimes it quits and you don’t recognize it. Too often it tells me that after just a few moves the time was exceeded. In reality just a few seconds were used. Same thing with a message that the game was resogned. Ugly and probably easy to fix by the develope
As Usual, Needs Improvement
At some point in chess website history, ICC was surpassed by several other sites, including Chess.com, Lichess, and the ChessBase site. Now, due to declining membership, it can be hard get a game on ICC at some times of the day. Glitches on ICC of various types persist, and the site is very slow to respond to requests for help. During a blitz game today, the clock froze, and after I waited a long time, 5 min. at least, the clock had STILL not restarted. Crap like this is why you should select this site ONLY if you have to. My chess teacher uses the site because he’s too set in his ways to move to a better site. He’s the only reason I use ICC. Since ICC is no longer as good as the other sites, the managers should be discounting the annual fee. $40 per year is way too much for this chess dinosaur. And yes, the blitz clock froze again today. I would guess this website is not generating enough $$$ to keep the equipment upgraded. And if the blitz clock is not freezing, then it screws up by failing to flag an opponent who is out of time, but not moving. Avoid ICC if you can.
Still the best app to develop thinking skills
Still the best gaming app ever invented. Helps develop cognitive skills. The shooting apps develop hand to eye coordination but very little to help users develop thinking skills.
Horrible update
All reviews of this app prior to the most recent update should be deleted. The new app bears no resemblance to the prior version. Allowing this app to retain the prior reviews and stats is highly misleading. The average review since the update is one star and that’s what should be reflected in the star rating.
Very useful
Great chess app. But it must have crashed, I cannot log in from any of my Apple devices!
Loses connection, support not helpful
Ever since an iOS upgrade ICC will “randomly” lose connection if app is in background. Very frustrating and no help from support.
Hard to justify the subscription
The app is reasonably good, but absolutely needs a time warning (like in the desktop version). The service seems to have gone downhill in recent years. Cheating is rampant on ICC with about 10% of the games having a shockingly high correlation with one of the most popular chess engines. The pools initially seemed like a good idea, but what has happened is that it's almost impossible to get a game with any other time controls.
Great chess games!
All levels can enjoy chess and improve their game using this app!
new app
been playing on icc for decades now this new app has ruined everything!! can’t play can’t log in?
Excellent chess app!!!!
Wanting to see Stockfish 6 or Komodo 9 as the default chess engine!!!!! Until then.... It is only 4 stars for now!
Consume to much battery
The app looks ok but it consume too much battery. My phone gets hot when using the application. I do not have this issue with other chess clubs apps
Usual token flaws
I’ve played on the ICC for over 20 years and, whilst it’s a venue I still enjoy, the halcyon days of this website are long gone. The app is a microcosm of what’s wrong with the ICC. Good, but just not great. It seems to have bugs consistently; this current iteration has two that have been around for a while. Firstly, the bottom of the screen is not properly visible in console view, you have to wrench it upwards and even then it’s awkward to see. Secondly, the volume doesn’t work properly - it doesn’t respond to my iPhone’s controls. Apart from that, I sense that the pool of players is much smaller than it used to be, resulting in pairings against the same players with regularity.
Okay I gave you five stars
Now stop nagging me to.
An update that makes the app utterly useless
I don’t write reviews. This probably is my first review. Everyone that was involved in the design and approval of the updates should be fired. An app update shouldn’t change the user experience completely. This update makes the visualization so jarring that I can’t even figure out what my move or my opponent’s moves are. If the update is not rolled back, I will be deleting the app.
Huge improvement, getting there
Previous versions were unstable but this is a huge improvement. Still a number of little niggles like the game results 'hammer' is too close to the icon to the left of it, but getting there.
Poor
The desktop version is very good, but the iPad version is poor. It locks in the middle of games, when oppos disconnect the game continues and times out to a draw, and it repeatedly tells me my membership has expired when it hasn't. I paid membership twice this year! We pay good money for annual membership but the iPad version needs a lot of work to make it better.
Chess club lite - a sweet taster
This is an excellent app for enjoying chess online. The only negative for me is the app doesn't give you full access all the members services like 'crazyhouse' and the many other chess variations available using a PC.
Great customer service
During these difficult health crisis times , ICC has offered two free months of service. Very thankful and appreciative. Thank you ICC
Ruined by update
This used to be a great app. But after the last update you cannot customize the pieces or the board unless you sign up. Well, I just want to play chess against a computer. I don’t want to have to remember yet another password or read through many, many paragraphs of terms and conditions. The app developers can of course do whatever they want. But I’ll be deleting this chess game and looking for a friendlier one.
Excellent chess app
Not many blunders here. It would be nice to have a wider selection of boards to choose from and the control buttons during and after a game are very small and awkward to use. Apart from that this version is a big improvement on the last version.
OK
Good game but can't choose a certain standard and have played better chess games💭💭💭💭💭💭🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇
Time limit
Please remove the time limit. It would be better to be able to leave the game for some hours before resuming.
