Inaccurate
I understand this is a free app, so I figured it had limitations, but even with a 5G 2-3 bar signal it indicates “no cell tower found”. I just am trying to determine where I’m getting the signal from. Another app that’s a joke, deleting.
Where is 5G?
This app needs to be updated to list 5G as a network type.
What Happened to open signal?
In a merto area, and almost ne service. OS is supposed to document this, but instead, gives the phone co a pass. Says, you are in airplane mode. I am not, it connects at the speed of dial up. Gutless shills.
Buggy Updates
The app does not measure download speeds any more, whether cellular or WiFi. This started with the last two updates.

What a waste of time. I had this installed on my old 4G phone and the app migrated over to my 5G iPhone 16, but never showed 5G towers (and no updates showed available). Uninstalled and reinstalled, and got a completely different version which listed 5G in the filter. It shows me 20 towers, none of which are the 5G tower I know I am connected to. Doesn’t even show a tower there. It also shows a bunch of towers half a mile out in the middle of a lake. This app is useless - why would I pay for such a downgrade from the old version.
Garbage
It worked well for the first year now never finds a signal. Updated it and deleted it and reinstalled still not working. Time to uninstall!!!!!!
Found no towers. More for WiFi?
I was disappointed. The compass screen would point in a given direction but the map never showed a single tower. Lack of 5G is major disappointment. Worth every penny since it is free.

Abysmal App
How Opensignal is considered the the gold standard, I have no clue! This is one of the least functional apps. From the user interface being abysmal, to the app being not being able to perform speed tests at the maximum download and upload speed that the network is capable of and showing data relevant to the speed test, to the find my tower feature never working, I honestly think they should remove the app and rebuild it from the ground up!
Works…Sometimes, sort of.
I got this app to help aim my cell phone booster antenna. The signal is weak here and the app had me aiming about 70 degrees off, just barely in the edge of reception. Lately I have been trying to use it to monitor bandwidth with my new WiFi system and about half the time it says it cannot find the server. In summary, better than nothing, not very accurate or reliable.
No 5G for antennas
Downloaded the app following recommendations online for finding cell towers, directions and frequencies and guess what, it only shows 3G and 4GLTE. Pretty much useless in2025 except maybe for download speeds. I did one test and can’t say much about it being exact and consistent, SpeedTest is the reference for that. Deleting the app…

It’s a good app but it’s not giving me the accurate speed test
Inaccurate speed tests.
The speed test is always slow when testing compared to the Ookla speed tests. I’m on AT&T, and I can get 700-40 with Ookla 6 times in a row. Without moving an inch this app will only register 110-9. The bad servers skew the carrier comparison.

Unrealistic speed tests really. Speedtest shows totally different results. Location is not detected when the app running. History not working. 5G maps not available.

They broke something
I’ve been using this app almost daily for several years. Something broke in the recent update. Now I get “Internet connection appears to be offline” every time I try to use it. When I go to browser based speed test sites they all work fine. Done the usual delete and re-install to no avail. Please fix this once great app!

Can’t find tower
Downloaded this to spot nearby towers. Maybe that’s not what this app is supposed to do but it does have a section that leads you to believe it does. But it has never worked.

For some reason, the most recent complaints about this app point out, irregularities in the very service that they are offering. Secondly, it doesn’t even show 5G at all and it’s not available on any of the menus. This is also somewhat perplexing. The standard operational programming approach is that you leave all the choices in the menu but you simply gray out ones that are not available. Therefore, if the developer responds and tells me that it is available then it should’ve been more intuitively designed. I’ve been programming since the 70s and I have major awards for my software design, so I do know of what I speak and I wish these people all the best luck.
Takes ages to open the speed test
Why is this taking so long to run?? I’d like to use it more but it just stays on loading for over five minutes!!
No Signal Strength Data
Privacy agreement says signal strength is being shared. I was counting on being able to see it. A good place to put it would be by the big arrow when finding the nearest cell tower. This feature didn’t work—no cell tower detected. I like the concept of crowdsourcing this information. The app is on the right track.
Was a really good app
Before the most recent update the app was excellent. The really handy feature of mast locator worked really well but since the last update this no longer works. The Speedtest has gone a bit sketchy since the last update too, only tests download and not upload.

What’s changed ?
This app had been working well on my iPhone SE . For some reason I can no longer locate a Cell Tower and frequently get nil result with the Compare Performance option. Suspect this co-insides with latest app update. I use this app to determine the best direction for my 4g aerial at my static caravavan.
Speed measurements are biased
I’ve used Opensignal along with other speed test apps and this one is the most inconsistent by far. Aside from skewed results, this app constantly puts one particular carrier ahead of all others in my area. My tests and experience alone paint an entirely different picture. I’m not sure if carriers are paying Opensignal to inflate their performance on this app but it seems apparent from what I’ve seen over the last couple of years. Other issues are the apps inability to locate and point you to the nearest tower and how limited we are to zoom in and see multiple carrier performances in smaller sections instead of larger radius.
Horrible
Weak. This app is horrible. Doesn’t show cell towers as one of the options and the speed test is way inaccurate. I tried with this app and got 3.2 upload and then used a app I always have used for years and got in the 150 range
