What people like
- Best live departure times available
- Covers all transport modes in Berlin
- Great for planning routes easily
- Cheaper than buying at the station
What they complain about
- Ticket purchase often fails or hangs
- Walking directions use straight lines only
- No Apple Pay or Google Pay
- App is very slow and buggy
Brilliant
Spent €51 for 4 days unlimited travel. Absolute bargain. Don’t bother booking airport transfers, there’s no need. Rail, bus, tram and metro are all well integrated, making it a doddle to hop on and off. The live map was easier to follow than Google maps as well!
Terrible
Allows you to enter all payment details, but then just gets permanently stuck when trying to purchase a ticket. Even by German digital standards this app is particularly bad.
Ach ja so lala
Jhd.
Decent app and good customer service
VBB is my preferred booking app for Berlin-Brandenburg service!
Just bad
Tried to buy a ticket to the airport. Forced me to make an account first which in itself isn't unreasonable, but let me fill out the details in English and some parts were randomly in German? I know some German so it's alright but someone who never learned will struggle. Then tried to select a ticket (options all in German), where it didn’t have ApplePay or such so I had to put my address in. Every time I put it in, I just got sent back to the selection screen. Four times. I started to panic about missing my train - and by extension, my plane - so I gave up and sprinted to the ticket centre. Just go to the ticket machines or desk. The ladies on the counter were very helpful, way more so than this app.
Easy but only purchase just before departure
The App works fine and the ticket was cheaper than buying over Deutsche Bahn. However, VERY IMPORTANT to know that tickets can’t be bought in advance & must be used within 4 hours of purchase. This wasn’t totally clear to me, despite the „please mind“ and „ok“ that has to be clicked before purchase. So, I ended up buying a ticket the night before my trip that I couldn’t use. Thankfully, the VBB Mitarbeiter were helpful & friendly and following an email exchange, I was reimbursed for the unused ticket.
Schlecht
Essential Tool, But Slow
I use this app every day to navigate point-to-point through the complex web of the BVG system. An essential tool. What is missing is access to view transit system maps. Also, the app is slow and freezes when you switch out of the app and back in.
Love this app.
No more waiting in front of the ticket machine for the guy in front to finish looking for change or for the ticket to print out — you can buy your subway (U Bahn or S Bahn), tram, or bus ticket while you’re walking to the station. I see that some are having trouble after the latest update, but it’s fine on my iPhone 6s. And you can buy multiple tickets and mix an order for full and partial fare tix. My daughter has an iPhone 4 and is having some problems with the app — for some reason, she can only buy a ticket on a wifi connection, not with her regular phone service. I don’t use the mapping function, so I can’t comment on that. The app is free, and if it works for you, I think you’ll find it highly convenient.
Badly planned for tourists
Although I can speak German so could understand the directions, the app constantly went to an error page for myself and my husband when trying to register. There was insufficient information about what the ticket options were - eg what counts as a small group? we had to go and find cash then the driver sold us quite an expensive set of tickets considering we were not going far- more expensive than the app indicated they should be.
Pretty much a necessity
And very complete feature set, except for terrible walking directions and lack of integration into Maps.
Routen Speichern 🤔
The best BVG app right now
Best app on the store at the moment. It's got all the functions that Fahrinfo lost with its latest update. You can search by address, click for earlier or later results, you can see departure times by station (extremely useful with buses since they almost always don't stick to the regular schedule), all maps are there, u-sbahn, tram, 24h, potsdam. Walking maps are there as well. And it even has some improvements over the Fahrinfo app, for example the departure times also show the real departure time right beneath with green/yellow/red fonts depending on the delay; and you can see the complete itinerary with all the stations you'll be passing by so you can make sure you are on the right track. Only things they could improve: add the "graph" view so you see all the itineraries side by side by time and not just as a list. And add the stations maps, so you know where the h the TXL or 200 bus depart from at Alex or at the Hauptbahnhof, if Fahrinfo updates and brings back that functionality I might go back to them. But all in all, best app so far! I might even stick with it even if Fahrinfo updates...unless they being back the station maps...then that'd be a dealsealer.
Do not use!
The app will just take your money and then not load a ticket. The app doesn’t work without a network connection. Have issues? You have to email and hope they reply. Why do they need so much personal information just to get a €4 metro ticket. Stick to the machines in the station which are faster and easier.
Drain your battery
This is the perfect application if you searching for something that drain your battery. Otherwise, there’s fancy indications about your trip. And no traduction at all if you are not German native.
Best transport app for Berlin
The original official public transport app for Berlin. Still the best and most reliable.
Useless app
Gets stuck after logging into PayPal for payment and loads the app endlessly. This app should be removed as it doesn’t work!
Can't buy ticket
There is a function to buy an online ticket but it doesn't work. When you click purchase the app just infinitely loads. Better off using the DB app.
Sehr gut
Sehr wichtig und praktisch App.
Poor for tourists
When you register in English, the security questions are in German. Having overcome that with the help of Google Translate, the confirmation text is also in German. Get past that and try to purchase tickets - no Apple Pay (or Google Pay) it won’t go properly to PayPal and if you try and pay by credit card it continually asks you to enter your address. You do that, save the data and then go round the loop again and again ….. All very poor.
Buggy
This version is buggy as he'll. Got an internet connection pop up which is super annoying.
Best one Out there !!!
Always guides me through Berlin
Can't purchase tickets
Required me to enter same details multiple times only for it to fail at the point where it wouldn't actually let me purchase a ticket.
Very glitchy
Buggy and poorly thought-out interface from VBB (especially for ticket purchases, which often fail to go through), do yourself a favor and just get the BVG app!
Super
Works well and better than any of the other apps for Berlin.
Couldn’t even buy a ticket!
When I tried to buy a ticket it displayed a message “not enabled for this merchant” but I hadn’t even got to the part where I enter my credit card details.
Can't buy tickets from US mobile phone?
App seems great for planning and the idea of being able to buy mobile tickets is great. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with a US mobile phone. I set up an account but am unable to retrieve the PIN despite multiple tries. There doesn't seem to be any email support either, only a German phone number. I think I can manually enter my credit card but I apparently will have to do that every time I buy a ticket. Also - wish I could purchase multiple tickets and choose when to "activate" (validate) them from the app. Though I suppose that's ripe for abuse - people wouldn't validate until they see the policeman approaching...
Great!
Would be awesome for passbook compatibility so I don't need a ticket every time.
Awful
This app is utter garbage and could probably lead to a lot of ticket fines due to how bad it is, you can’t even buy a ticket - close this company down and start again
Brilliant
Absolutely necessary for any foreigner in Berlin.
As to be expected
Another transport app that wouldn’t have been acceptable in any other European country 10 years ago!
