Great music and friendly help
Recently I had trouble with the player not streaming music, so I wrote in to the people at SomaFM and we trouble shot it; they were so helpful and all I needed to do was delete and reinstall and now it’s working great again! They have so many radio stations it’s sometimes hard to choose which one I want to listen to at night. I’m glad they have an app cause I’ve been listening to them for quite a while now.
Great app - one request
Was working until iOS 18.4.1 rolled out. Was literally listening to the app, saw there was an update, paused SomaFM, installed system update, and now app just buffers.
Great!
Lovely to have this. However can you please add support for media buttons (play/pause etc.), because currently if I take my AirPods out of my ears then back in again, SomaFM doesn’t play, something else random does!
Doesn’t support background play
It’s basically just a frame around a web view instance, so it doesn’t properly support background play. The music stops when iOS unloads the app which it thinks is idle from memory. This app should either be updated to support newer versions of iOS or removed from the App Store.
Needs an iOS 26 refresh
The controls (particularly in control center) have gotten unreliable in the new iOS. Otherwise, remains a great app.
The OG of Internet And aduo
I am shocked this has so few reviews. This is the OG of Internet Radio!! Have used this for years. Got streams to work on VLC where app is not available. Lately none of the stations appear to be able to get the stream…?
Problem with the latest version (1.13)!
The latest version broke the Chrome cast feature. Now you can’t cast any station to a Chrome cast device without this app being the active app and the device being turned on! That defeats the whole purpose of using Chrome cast. Also, the song listing only starts showing those after you start playing. Previously it shows all the past played tracks regardless when you start streaming. I regret updating to this version and wish I could downgrade to the previous version (1.12)!!! Please fix these.
Please fix bug that starts playing music when phone connects to CarPlay, despite it not open before.
See title
Why did it break?
This latest version is so messed up. The screens don’t render correctly. The music keeps stopping. Every time the music stops, it returns to the Home Screen, so you can’t simply press play to restart. I’ve been using this app for a decade. So disappointed and confused by this failure.
Good but intrusive
It’s good but too intrusive. The play button on my headphones if I was using YouTube or Spotify before than I minimise or pause than press play again it plays soma dm????? I don’t even have the app open stop being so aggressive with this
Long time listener
Been tuning in for a long time now. I find myself always putting groove salad on to study or just have some background music going.
Can search and fav radio
Hand full of radio stations 8 dollar rip off No WWUH
Buffering…
This appears not to be workiing with iOS 18.3, tried multiple devices, but it just buffers.
has problems casting.
i love Soma: donate when i can, BUT i cant recommend this app. if you have it running in the background and go to check who you’re listening to, it restarts but keeps casting too.you have to recast, or have audio come from both the device and the chromecast. every single time. its been reported a couple of times, 1st time a couple of years ago and it either cant be fixed or there is no inclination to. if you don't want to cast then its not going to be an issue. but i do so its 2 stars from me. Its a real shame. 2020 ipad and chromecast audio used.
Love the Radio! AirPlay Bug hurts big time!
I’ve been a longtime listener to a myriad of Soma FMs stations and hands down you were never find a better collection of interesting music and genres that you almost never hear on normal radio. As a Dj, this is is my favorite radio! The app is great and laid out well but I am running into a nasty bug when trying to Airplay to devices. The App will connect and play the Soma FM jingle but fails to loads the stations music afterwards. A pity, I would love to Airplay to my devices and speakers!
Top 10 Audio Apps
I absolutely love the chill music to study to, program to, get some work done to. No ads, no interruptions, and just clean chill music. Love Mission Control radio. Best radio channel on my phone.
Won't load to iPhone 4s
Erp.
Perfect except for..
…just one thing. If they added a ‘Sleep in 120 minutes’ setting like the iPad app has… then, for me, SOMA’s iPhone app would be perfect. Although I imagine this setting is not available possibly due to overnight battery drainage. In that case I think 60 and 90 minute settings would suffice. Thoughts from a longtime listener :) ~Lindsay P
Ausgelutscht
New update blows
They always have to go and change it.
The Greatest App!
It’s the greatest app for MacOS. Download it today!
Hmmm
No stations shown and so can't listen to anything. 4s with latest iOS
Fix the lowest sound setting
A music app where u pay once and use for life??!! Yes please. One thing that bothers me is fact that the app needs better support for very low volumes for when AirPods connected. There’s a huge jump in volume going from 5% sound volume to 4%!
Gute Musik, schlechte App
Höre gerne Groove Salad usw. Leider verbraucht die App unglaublich viel Akku. Ich weis nicht was die so alles treibt im Hintergrund aber teilweise wurde sogar mein Gerät warm auf der Rückseite
App now has to run in foreground
Unfortunate
Infinite beautiful music
many beautiful music inside this iphone application
Not worth three bucks
Even on low bandwidth option it cuts out for random lengths if time. Full bars on 4G and WiFi.
Best radio App
Had Soma since it became available and continue to use it every week. Plenty of choice from lots of different station styles. I’ve copied it around to friends who have bought it too. Buy the inexpensive app and all upgrades are free. Long live Soma FM!
No Chromecast Anmymore
Chromecast icon vanished. Can't steam to Chromecast anymore.
Strange choices
Amazing, this has so many types of music to choose between yet there is only one jazz choice, and no classical choice!
❤️
GrooveSalad & GrooveSalad Classic forever! 🙏❤️🙏
Soma review
I love these radio stations. I hate this app as it does not work. I cannot connect to any if the stations. I have looked on the support website and cannot make it play.
Whatever your mood, they have it
This app is one of the best. Straight up original, unique content and a variety of moods. Easy to navigate and not cluttered like others.
Not very good
Update: Re: Apple TV 4 compatibility … The Soma FM Apple TV app is mediocre just like the others, but also has a giant (and rather fatal) flaw. Apple TV apparently doesn’t know it’s playing and so after 15, 30 or whatever minutes you have the sleep or screen saver set to … The TV turns itself off and Soma FM with it. The developers need to set the flag that Apple TV needs so as not to fall asleep when Soma FM is playing. Especially now since “sleep” means “turn off TV and entire stereo system.” I love SomaFM and really wanted to like this app but it's just no good. Stations mysteriously drop, and stations quickly crash or drop with pretty much 100% reliability when you move from a Wi-Fi area to a cell network. This means if you put the radio on, and then leave the house for the day, it will crash as soon as you get 30 metres or so from your house. So you have to pull your iPhone out (in the rain), and try to reconnect etc. If you move in and out of Wi-Fi areas all day as I do this quickly gets infuriating. I'm also extremely disappointed that as an owner of the first SomaFM app (that I *paid* for and which was incapable of backgrounding), that this new app was released which *does* do backgrounding, is free, and which the paid users were never made aware of. Why the new app isn't an upgrade of the old I have no idea. Why the users of the first paid app were not apprised of the existence of the new one is similarly a mystery. I'm a big supporter of SomaFM and would likely have paid even for this new app, but the developers are (seemingly), amateurs and the whole business is rather distasteful. An app for SomaFM that worked and was rationally and attractively done would be fabulous, but it's starting to look like they just aren't capable of getting their act together.
Battery drain
I love the app and the music, but it kills my battery life. MUCH more than any other music app. I want to rate this higher, but my battery shouldn't be draining to empty in just a few hours. IPhone 13 Mini.
Best
Great music and app. Works on every platform, including Alexa multi room music thru TuneIn extremely well without commercials.
Crap
Only two genres
Great music. Good app.
The music selection is fantastic. And the station choice is brilliant. This is how niche webcasting should be done. The app keeps things simple. Station list with now playing tracks and listener counts, track histories, high/lo bandwidth options, ability to donate (it's a listener supported model), song favouriting, community and news. This would be a five star app if it included a sleep timer.
Need higher quality streams
This app was pretty good but since the upgrade it won't play any higher than 64kbps at "high quality." Until this is fixed I will be using tunein radio.
Awesome Music, but...
Unfortunately the app is not detecting all of my AirPlay devices..
Fantastic
Google Cast works great & no ads/free is best feature. Nice channel selection & calm/intuitive user interface. Love announcers during channel selection, nostalgic. tvOS app/AirPlay good too.
Save ur money
I love soma fm, an listen to it pretty much all day. But, this app really isn't that great. A better deal is to buy the "TuneIn Radio" app. It has all the soma fm channels (plus others), better quality/reliability, and is cheaper to purchase than the soma app.
Nice app; fantastic radio station(s)
The Soma stations can all be easily found on Internet radio apps like TuneIn Radio, but this Soma app is still a nice gateway to the Soma stations and community. The only thing stopping me giving it 5 stars is the absence of a sleep timer. Hopefully this will be included in a future update.

Please optimize for iPad usage!
Tolle App, aber ...
die deutsche Übersetzung ist sehr schlecht. Bitte noch nachbessern, dann gibt es auch volle Punktzahl!
Simply the best streaming app
It's so good. Soooooo goooooooood.
Waste of money
App won't connect, except for once. Then it dropped out after a few minutes. I feel ripped off. As for listener support, forget it. I already gave them money for nothing.
Great music
Excellent choice of high quality streaming ambient and chillout music. App would be perfect if only they would add a 'sleep' function so it would close itself after a certain amount of time. Otherwise you fall asleep listening to the great tunes and wake to find your iPhone battery dead.
Switched to TuneIn after iOS 5
Big fan of SomaFM, I donate every month. Before iOS 5 this app was mostly OK although it sometimes crashed for no apparent reason and could not handle the transition from wifi to 3G streaming. With iOS 5 I haven't been able to connect to iTunes store to buy via previously bookmarked tracks. This was a deal breaker. I've switched to TuneIn Radio and have not looked back.
Not very reliable
I love soma.fm, but this app doesn't work very well. Connection is broken once or twice per hour; often times I can see the stations but the app crashes when or before I can select one. Disappointed. I should mention I have an old iPod Touch that no longer gets updated - maybe that's why I get poor performance. It works enough for me to use it, though!!
