Board Does Not Work with VoiceOver
Potentially brilliant. Sadly blind people using VoiceOver cannot access the board. Chess Wise and Shredder show how this can be done.
Simple and Easy
The instructions are simple and easy to follow. The interactive board is useful for a beginner to try out the game. However, it is difficult to play against oneself. Perhaps include a board for the beginner to play against "the computer" just to try out the moves discussed in the book.

A Great Starter!
Not really an app ... just an e-book. But a great little starter if you’re new(er) to chess! Lots of interesting things you need to know and even some interesting ‘fun facts!’
Guidebook - doesn’t teach you to play
It explains the rules and strategies and is like a manual. But, it’s missing the most important component of any teaching/learning dynamic - the “now you try” portion. It doesn’t allow you to try the moves and doesn’t give you any feedback. It teaches you the rules - not how to actually play. I know all the steps of how to perform a surgery from reading about it - I’ve just had anyone to help me practice doing it myself. Not hands on.

Thank you~ what an amazing app to learn to play chess. I will definitely be going back through this multiple times to learn and practice. There is So much to learn. My husband loves chess and I want to purchase him a beautiful board for Father’s Day and I want to surprise him and learn to play. I love how you can move the pieces to practice. It would be really awesome if you added a quiz section. Example: this piece is named? Or what would be the best move in this situation. Just to learn even more but it’s also wonderful the way it is! Thank you!

First off, a double pawn is not bad. (as your example) A double isolated pawn is weak. HUGE difference. I won't go into more details as you guys should pay a pro to get your things straith.

Good but it does not let you start the game
Clear explanations of the rules.
This is the best way to learn the rules of chess because you can read it quickly and you can easily use it as reference while learning how to play. I wish it had a practice section but it’s straight forward to the point, fast and free, I love it.

Learn Chess
Good App very highly recommended for those who know little to nothing about the game. I wanted to learn advanced strategies and it’s not good for that. But it’s good for a lot of basic information as well as some minor facts often forgotten.

Wanting to get the basics. This app more than filled my requirements. Not expecting to be a good player just to enjoy the challenge is my objective and this app does just that.

Some great basic tips here, aimed at the absolute beginner, useful if you want to get a little bit better at your game. There is no deep theory, anyone he's played regularly for more than a couple of years will probably not find anything new. However, if you're starting from scratch, or teaching a child to learn chess there's a lot you'll find that's helpful.
