Absolutely seamless. Mind you the extra security precautions taken can sometimes feel a bit of an overkill BUT BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY
The worst airline app experience I’ve ever had
I have been trying to make an account on Cathay so I can accumulate miles and use credit card points for nearly 2 months now. I have tried all of their suggestions, in 4 different countries, 3 different continents, multiple personal e-mail addresses and phone numbers and still have had no luck. When I contact their support line, they say there is no issue on their end. I’ve had friends try to sign up to see if it was something I was doing incorrectly and they all were unable to create accounts. I typically don’t leave reviews, but I’m hoping somebody might see this and help me figure it out. But for now 1 star. Easily worst experience I’ve had with any airline app or website.

It’s good overall. But looks like choose meal option is not working online.
Book Stay feature still not working
I reported the same issue in 2 months ago. After several app updates, it’s still not able to open the Book Stay page. Even it won’t redirect to Cathay Holidays website. So disappointing.

They never pick up the phone. And only bots chat with you in the chatting tool, even you request talking to an agent. Spent hours and solved nothing.

Pros: - basic functionality Cons - tiny type, hard to read - workflow needs to be streamlined, better integrated with notifications. For example, when it’s time to get a boarding pass, your are not notified, it’s not obvious in the app, you have to dig. - the app is slow

no upload of booking possible if booking is with partner airlines
Its still not possible to upload a booking that is with partner airlines. This app is from the middle ages. I fly back home and wanted to upload my booking from BA that has a long flight segment from Hongkong to LHR woth Cathay but there is no way to upload my booking code to the app. it works pwrfectly with qatar air but not with carhey. Please programmers repair this fundamental issue ASAP
Stopover in HKG booking was horrible
Tried to book a stopover in HKG on return flight and has errors, either stop working or pricing can go from USD $4900 (business) and in next couple of hours to USD 5,500 (mixed class) and when book gave me an error so need to start all over again. Apps does not work except for straight round trip. Even that pricing was so irresponsible that I quit booking. There are others such as SIA or even STARLUX provide better pricing and better apps that CX.

Worst app
Half the time the verification code does not come thru continuously gives error code. The scanning app where it is supposed to detect the chip on your passport doesn’t work waste of time and no step by step instructions. At least monitor the app to see if it is working!

The app is slow, frequently shows errors. “duplicate sectors on flights”, just “error” or similar. It reverts you to the webpage for any type of upgrade, which of course… shows yet more errors.

UIデザイン関係の仕事をしてる者です。第一印象は使いやすいアプリに見えました。キャセイらしさを反映していて、統一感あるUIに見えます。 ただ使っていくと、モバイルアプリに精通した人とは思えないWebに最適化したようなコンポーネントや、もたついたアニメーションが多用されていて、情報を入力するのにかなりストレスがかかりました。 例えば、生年月日のスライダーは、今日現在の日にちがデフォルトになっているので、1番左のDayを増加させると「未来」だと判定して元に強制的に巻き戻されます。アクションは基本的に左から右に行うので、多くの人がこのトラップでストレスを覚えるかと思います。 認証の電話番号のinput も自動で-や先頭の国番号の桁、空白も削除されないため、OS標準の自動入力で入力したユーザーの大半はここで手動で渋々修正する羽目になります。 入力中の警告文章も出るタイミングが曖昧で、その度に画面の座標がずれるので入力しづらいです。本番環境でのユーザーテスト、継続的に本当にしてますか？ 航空系のアプリによくありますが、ただWebの内容をレイアウトを変えて作った、みたいなアプリになって欲しくないです。ユーザーは継続的な使いやすさを求めて、アプリをダウンロードしています。

Horrible service. How can anybody can make 7 kg carryon and personal item laptop backpack together. CEO should verify his carryon and laptop bag before enforcing on customers at gate. I have been traveling last 26 years, I never saw such a bad service. I do not recommend this airlines.

Very disappointed with the check-in feature
I’m very disappointed with the check-in feature of this app. I couldn’t complete the check-in and there was no guidance telling me the real problem. Wasted me a lot of time. Very frustrating. I’ll have to go to the airport to check in on spot.

Terrible login experience
Can’t use @ as password; when logging in, previous login expired, had to reset password; mobile phone has this weird +1 and parentheses, lots of friction; has to select country from a long list instead of using the country code directly

Reliable
Cathay App is reliable. There was quite a glitch when I checked in. Had to check in on the web. It picked up on the app.
Won’t stay logged in
Have to log into this app every single time - sufficiently annoying to book elsewhere Also it will change your FF number without consent, even if the one you booked with is higher. You can’t change it back at check in - the kiosks they insist on everyone using just error out. Cathy used to be the best airline. No more.
Needs to be better for those flying CX, but have status with other airlines
The biggest annoyance with the app is once you add a booking while not logged into your CX account - the trip disappears off the Home section within a day The people writing this app need to understand that a lot of us flying CX have status on another airline so we are not members. Every other Airlines app seems to handle this well except CX

time out is only 15m, not enough to make it done when have group booking tickets. shall be at least 20m

Check In? More Like Check Your Patience
Trying to check in for an international flight on this app was horrific and painful!!! The personal details section would not let me submit, no matter where I tapped. The travel document section scanned my passport and Visa correctly, then refused to submit because “something” was missing without saying what. I ended up manually retyping everything, which took forever and made me late checking in. then I use the Cathay Pacific website, and it worked flawlessly. I deleted the app. I’ve never seen such a simple check-in process made so buggy and frustrating!
