Never get lost again
This is possibly the best of the many apps I’ve bought. I’ve been meaning to leave a review for ages but it normally prompts me for a review when I’m deep in the wilds of some footpath you would never be able to find without this app.
extortion
while it seems to work fine. for this app to work you need to purchase hema maps, that’s where all their BS starts! they harass you with emails and messages saying your purchase of hema maps need to be purchased again when once you buy hema maps it is yours forever and full life time updates. why hema associates with these extortionist is beyond me.
Offline maps excellent
I came back to MM after getting completely hacked off with the other main rivals. All I want is to be able to open up my phone and see my position on an OS map, in the middle of nowhere, regardless of whether I have phone signal or not. MM achieves this very well. Dropped one star because the routing function is quite poor but I have stopped trying to use it and I don’t miss it. You can still make up your own routes point to point which is fine. A lot of people will want more from maps but for me, less really is more :)
Disappointing
A horrible piece of software from the 90s it seems.
Descent wish they’d put some work in
Decent and stable. Though once they did decide to cancel all my nautical charts without warning mid voyage. This app has been around for ages so it’s hard to understand why parts remain so poorly designed. Like printing maps, not having a ruler, the utterly awful method of plotting and editing routes and the Kafkaesque challenge of searching through years of digital App Store folders trying to work out which one you own. Come on guys.
Top Quality App
I have used Memory Map for years. The accuracy of the OS maps goes without question. MM4All translates the mapwork effortlessly to digital devices. I take it everywhere on my phone and iPad.
Seems bad
I don’t know why this has such positive reviews. It seems very poor. Nothing is really working on my iPad. Even the free road atlas is just terrible and either too tiny or too pixelated to be useful, depending on zoom level. Not usable. I haven’t tried loading my own maps into this app yet, so perhaps that’s where it shines.
MPH
How do I change from km to mph.
Reliable but not always up to date
Although still the most stable offline nav tool, it’s getting long in the tooth. I have been hiking and travelling in remote places, Vic High Country and other national parks, the maps are getting pretty outdated now. Wouldn’t mind buying an updated map. Not a subscription. Also, when most cars now have Apple carplay, this is a sore missing feature as the map is only enjoyable on a bigger screen. So once again: solid app, great offline tool. More recent updated maps should be available even if Apple Carplay is not going to be an option, new Explorer maps are needed. The Topo maps are fine but the bigger Explorer 4WD maps are old. Give us some options please!
Original & best
The original and still one of the best. It's so good having access to detailed OS maps, and offline summary maps (without Google Maps, annoying featured businesses and inability to name the key towns).
Been with Memory Map for decades now useless
I’ve spent a lot with Memory Map. Now my maps wont download onto my new devices. Contacted Memory Map UK and they say they have had lots of complaints like mine. No support whatsoever, don’t buy this app. Leslie
Plain language instructions
The text and language of instructions for this very capable app reads like it was written by a very capable human. Well done for a great mapping tool.
Good but
It’s 2026 and still no way to change the maps from North up to route / trail up when navigating. It is ok to say rotate your phone or tablet but it’s useless on a cars display. Seems like the app is still in the 1990s.
Great Navigation & Plan
Great app, I use for both mountain biking and off road with the Jeep. Great for both planning routes and navigation whilst out 👍
Frustrating
There is nothing intuitive about using this App. It is so frustrating. The Help function is useless. Dreadful. Long time customer desperately looking for an alternative now.
Almost perfect
Having tried and tested several apps, this one does (almost) everything we need. Good local maps at very good price. Good and easy set up of fav places and waypoints. Things that could be better - ability to have the map follow the travel, make the app CarPlay compatible.
Great, just a few bugs
I love this app. However currently its very difficult on iOs to use the app switch feature to swipe sideways on the very bottom of the screen (or upwards to go to home screen). This makes it impossible to switch apps quickly, and it also messes up the centring of the map 😕. Also the dynamic island doesn’t show live events such as navigation instructions from apple maps, music playing etc. Would be great if both those could be addressed.
Great value for money Land or Sea
Weather you use the free base map or pay for O/S maps for a year or UK Nautical charts for navigation at see this app is great. O/S maps can be available for the whole of the Uk as can the Nautical charts. I used the Nautical charts to navigate a friend's Yacht into Dartmouth, when his navigation system failed a mile out to sea. I've used the app with o/s mapping around the UK from mountain to feild. Can't fault it. For both o/s and nautical you can create routes and waypoints. For Nautical navigation the charts are excelent. But don't forget to download them before venturing off shore beyond the cellular network range. Nautical side is basic but accurate. You have to pay a lot more to get better.
Buggy on iPad and zoom limits usage.
Downloaded this and bought HEMA maps based on reviews hoping to find something on iOS close to OziExplorer. On iPad I can’t get gps location as telling me location services not enabled despite having all location settings enabled. Tried uninstall, reinstall, reboot etc. nothing works and no further options available. On both iPad and iPhone, due to the raster maps the app limits your zoom ability to maintain legibility of the maps. This was severely limiting when I tried using the app to locate some trails dealing with distances in 100-200m as the scale kept popping back out to 2km. Seems the answer is to get more detailed maps of which there is none for the area I was in. Further, for some reason, max zoom would take me to a 1:250k map instead of the 1:150k map covering the same area so now had to turn off the auto map change on zoom.
Much better
Thank goodness for this newer ‘for all’ app. I’ve used Memory Map for maybe 15 years. There was a real issue when I first changed to an iPhone and loaded the iPhone app - The button to centre the map is stupidly positioned under the screen close bar. This might not matter when you’re walking, but for cycling it was a disaster. Fortunately this newer app is much better thought out, though it seems I can’t immediately access the many maps downloaded on the old app. Over the years I’ve used Memory map to cycle the length of GB a number of times, and across and around France. The biggest shame is that there are no longer foreign maps for sale, and as I get older and have more time, the opportunity to ride across more of Europe is becoming apparent. I’ll have to find another app that allows me to do this.
Was Good but Now Buggy
Have used for years but recently an error message started appearing on startup saying “didn’t close properly and data may have been lost”. I reported it a few weeks back and was told a fix was imminent with an app update. It’s still appearing today so I messaged again and got the simple response “join the beta programme”. I don’t really want to become an outsourced employee - I just want the app to work or be told when it will be fixed…
Good functional app
I use MM for sailing and having tried many of the other well established as well as up and coming apps, I still keep coming back to MM. It is easy to use and well thought out. I like being able to easily plan trips on my PC and then sync routes for final adjustment on my iPad when on board. I can then easily manage and monitor the passage. Only downside is the AIS integration, which is ridiculously expensive.
Much better than the OS app
I had previously used ViewRanger on my iPad mini for UK hill walking, with downloaded OS maps. When that app sadly disappeared (taking “my” purchased map segments with it) I hunted around for a useable alternative. The “official” OS app remains frustratingly not-quite-useable, so I’ve given up on it. MemoryMap isn’t perfect, but it’s certainly the best available way to download and use OS maps on your iPad for hill walking. Great that we can purchase “lifetime” access to the maps (at least until MemoryMap goes bust, gets bought out, or whatever). The user interface for downloading map data for specific areas onto the iPad is non-intuitive, but does work. So, how could it be improved? My main gripe is that cut-and-paste on the Mac desktop application doesn’t work. Come on guys, this is the 21st century! Competent UI design doesn’t get any more basic than this. Needless to say, I always carry a paper OS map as a backup, but with MemoryMap I never have to use it. Although the paper map will still be mine, and still useable, in 10 or 20 years’ time. Let’s hope the same is true for “my” MemoryMap maps.
Good app, but CarPlay missing
Good app for off-road navigation in Australia, NZ, Uk and U.S. but it is time to get CarPlay.. there is not much progress going on
Memory-Map for All
Allows off line maps so as long as you have power you know exactly where you are. Highly recommended. When I purchased a small holding in 2000 I had half of Wales on 1:25000 maps Memory Map would have made this so much simpler just a tablet or phone needed.
Happy marine user
Took a while to adapt but very happy now. Each of these apps has their own quirks but am planning to use while sailing in Scotland this year including Antares charts which I purchased.
A Good App for Navigating
This is a good app for creating and following routes in serious mountain and marine environments. The map quality is the best I have seen. It’s not an intuitive app to use though so you need to spend some time learning how to use it before you go outdoors and find you can’t get it work how you want to. It’s probably one of the best apps that I am aware of, including the OS map app and Outdoor Active. Very little development of the apps though over the last 20 yrs in terms of usability.
Great app
This is the best there is, you can trust wherever you go. I fully endorse this mapping app.
Still waiting for CarPlay?
Great app - but OS maps in CarPlay is a no brainer! - is this in your development plan?
This app is begging for car play
Great little app, used for planning, hiking, off roading. One thing that would kill their competitors is car play. Also would be great to have a route editor that allowed for the list of waypoints in a table you could delete, modify icon, color, or add with lat / lon.
Nice mapping tool
Does just what I need and does it nicely
Fed up
I have raved about Memory Map for years and the new interface is excellent. Why four stars? I am fed up with what the app developers have done to the delay/interfere with the iOS iPhone slick the screen up from the bottom to change app. I have waited for them to fix the error but O am concerned they think it is a feature. My muscle memory is frustrated every time I want to change app whilst using Memory Map. It can take the, four or even five flicks to get the app to give up the screen. This is a long term unfixed bug not a feature. Fix it for five stars.
Apple Play missing.
Why no apple play option? It makes more sense to use this app on vehicle screen than a phone. Since no mapping app has ever made an attempt to offer Apple play does that mean it is not possible? Also, having to create an account to download and pay for other maps is archaic and cumbersome.
No demands to subscribe to content are welcome
I appreciate that Memory Map allows me to use mapping I have paid for without constant prompts to subscribe to the opportunity to access paid for content.
Excellent
Have used the app all summer When will you cover outer isles/Hebrides esp. Eriskay and south to Barra?
First use planning a trip
Best ever user experience and cross-device updating of tracks and POIs is excellent and easy. Good so far and paid for Hema Australia maps and Hema VHC maps. Not the cheapest way to add maps but great trip planner. Still I also rate Avenza maps and the free NSW maps with great detail and even met NSW Park Rangers that use Avenza maps day to day…. MMfa is easier for trip planning though.
