Great
This has become my daily puzzle game that I get back to whenever I have some idle time. The base game is quite enough, but I’m sure there’s more fun to be had if you pay to unlock the whole thing.
Fun game but buggy
I originally left a much better review but it bugs me everyday to review it again so I changed it to one star.

Uses Wiktionary, but Ignores It?
On any given day it will sometimes pull out a word that raises my eyebrow as it’s a stretch, but today it said “elide” means to break apart or destroy which isn’t true at all, claimed it came from Wiktionary, and when I checked that wasn’t there at all? It’s like it’s hallucinating answers now. I’ve gotten nearly a 200 daily streak and it’s just disappointing that I like this game so much but they’re clearly using something generative under the covers that has no actual guidelines if it can just make up hints.
Accepted Words…?
Great app, I play this along with the NYT games, but on one of the days I put in the word ‘SLAVE’ and it came up in pink - meaning it’s not a word. Is this a mistake or is it some sort of woke narrative where they don’t accept words they don’t like even though they are in the English language. I assume it’s an error.
Super Fun
A fun and challenging game
Nice Idea, Unreliable and Perplexing
I’ve been using this game for some years, and I find the concept to be original. No clues provided, the user has to figure out words that fit. That’s about where the good ends. The game doesn’t appear to have been updated for years, the interface lags, sometimes doesn’t respond, and rarely, if ever syncs over ICloud. The monthly puzzle section contains regurgitated themes and puzzles literally taken from the last several months. The app uses words that don’t exist in any dictionary, which is untenable for a word based game. It’s one of the most poorly implemented games I’ve ever seen, which is a shame because the concept is great.
Solid
I enjoy the daily mini puzzles and can usually breeze through in 1-3 minutes a day. I would like a stats screen showing how many unique words have been found throughout playing. -1 star for paywall locking if you miss a single day in your streak.
App is randomly unresponsive
I have tried to keep using it but it’s just too frustrating from an ergonomics perspective.
Word choice?
I’ve been playing the free daily mini for a very long time. I’ve been continually amazed at how often they choose to use “snot”. Really? Are we middle school kids? I’ll keep playing, but it’s become a daily joke between me and my spouse.

can’t view yesterday’s answer?
I seemed to have an impossible daily puzzle yesterday, because I made a word out of every other single horizontal and vertical line, but there was one word that kept saying it was wrong, and I could not figure out what it was, even with using a hint. Where can I see the answers for yesterday‘s puzzles?
Great, but…
Update: I still hate the cursor jumping into already occupied squares and overwriting letters, but today (12/18) trying “lended” and getting told that’s not a word, but they’ll often put antiquated words in? Come on. I’m on a nearly 6 month streak, the thing I despise so much that keeps it from five stars is the cursor. I don’t know why it just won’t skip over letters already input and overwrites a letter already entered. That and, for example, I’m solving a word going down and go into a zone of letters and it decides to start solving the word across instead of the “Down” word I’m solving. Last thing, the clues are absolutely awful, when you’re used to the NYT crossword caliber of clues, these are just not good. Great puzzle app though.
Addicting
This is one of my favorite apps on my phone. The puzzles grow more challenging throughout the week. There is no advertising nagging. Just fun.
Ehhhhhh
It’s really not that great. Even if I use a descrambler I still don’t get a solution. Perhaps Mr. Zach will consider incorporating positive feedback. For example use a specific color for words that were correctly solved and placed in to the slots permanently. That way we know when we’re getting closer to a solution, it’s really not that much fun and I don’t have a whole lot of time to spend on it. And why not a resign option and display the solution. Again I don’t have a whole lot of time to spend on this puzzle. Oh I’d be willing to purchase letters or words. Are your programming skills up to it?
Great game with some bugs
The gameplay mechanic itself is fantastic, and this is a very engaging puzzle game. No ads on the free tier, just limited to how many games per day/month you can play. Absolutely worth a download and the cost to unlock the full game. That said it loses a star for a poorly implemented auto advance cursor mechanic and an increasingly laggy interface (although the latter doesn’t effect gameplay, just load times). 75% of the time the cursor will move to a logical space, the other 25% of the time it seems completely random. More of a small annoyance at first, but if you end up playing for a while, you’ll inevitably be trying to beat your best times, and it’s frustrating to miss because of issues with the user interface.
Fun but pricey
Probably the most fun and challenging word-related game out there but $12 for a mobile game is nuts. Free options are very limited (and not very clear when you just start playing). The sudoku aspect of it makes it quite interesting to play. Some glitches where words are surely indirectly but you can adjust settings to get around it if you want. Hope devs reduce the price in the future.
This game is what is advertised but…
This game should not be advertised as free. Gave it 3 stars because when you first start, you get to play the first 10 games and then you have to buy the annual or perpetual plan. It doesn’t have any ads, which is great. But the limitation of not even being able to play beyond the 2 daily puzzles is annoying. Especially in my case where I love games like this. I think the devs should consider a free version with ads and have the paid version for those who can’t stand ads.

I love that alternate solutions are allowed. Appreciate the hints. Look forward to Classic growing each day. I’m always excited for Sundays
Lost my streak
I do not know what happened. I had a streak of 945 days, went in today to play and it is all gone and says I have not played it in 3 days. I was very diligent about playing it caused I wanted to get to 1000. I have no idea what could have happened. So sad I will probably delete it.

Racial slur as definition
I have been using Knotwords for years and enjoying playing. However, today’s Daily Puzzle (November 8, 2024) included a racial slur. As I was stuck, I asked for a hint (N.B.: I refuse to type in the offensive word in my review) and I received the following: Plural form of ______ - a person of Italian descent. This definition came from wiktionary. The definition of coin or type of bird could have been used. Please make sure that racial/national slurs and disparaging definitions are NOT used. We have enough division in the world already. My rating would have been 5 stars, but I’m putting in 2 for now.
Not updated in a year and NOTwords
This game has not had an update in a year, and I assume an update will not come now that they have another version in AppleArcade. Sigh. It is a great idea for a game - and I want to pay for the whole thing, but two things keep me from doing that - one, it hasn’t been updated so odds are good it will stop working soon - and two - they use SO MANY words that are not words it is incredible! What is the point??? It is not fun because of this. Such a great game if they would just use actual words - even rare ones is fine, but NOT words is NOT fun.

Some of the words in the puzzle aren’t correct
For example: July tricky puzzle #16: Exactest is not a word. July tricky puzzle #30: inhering is not a word July 9: daily classic: Ripes is not a word. July 9 Daily twist: wests is not a word July 11: daily classic - Severer is not a word. July 14: daily classic - Gimleted is not a word. July 20 twist - humaner is not a word. July 25 twist - Phobics is not a word. July 29 twist - meres is not a word. And it’s not the plural of the word marsh.
Good puzzle, app is huge
This is a great puzzle idea and quite fun but it seems crazy to me that this app takes up more than half a gigabyte of phone storage
Inappropriate words
I was enjoying this, but I’ve stopped. Pretty sure some words don’t exist, and some words are inappropriate, especially if this has a 4+ age rating.
Need to fix your dictionary
So, I love the game, but they’re clearly scraping wiktionary in a rather sloppy way, and it’s causing problems. I noticed a puzzle accepted “eche” as a word, and the definition button in the app stated its meaning as “eternal,” which wasn’t what Marriam-Webster said. Looked it up in Wiktionary, and…the word is Middle English. Seriously.
1400 day streak
Fun game for daily mental workout
It’s not worth it unless you buy the subcription
There’s a section for the puzzles for then entire month and without buying the subscript you only get 10 of the 30/31 puzzles for the entire month. They also have a daily classic and mini puzzle but some days you have to skip unless you pay. So once the 10 puzzles for the month is done you may get 0-2 puzzles to play a day. I deleted the app after learning this.
Quit Working after paying for app
The game was working fine until I paid for the app. What is the deal? I enjoyed it while it worked.
Nausea
This seems like a good game but please provide a way to turn off all animations and movement (including the rabbit, cute as it is). They are unnecessary to gameplay and induce nausea in some users. See W3 accessibility standards on reducing animation.
Stories
This game is fascinating in the sense that for every puzzle solved, there’s some hidden story revealed within the combination of words found together. It’s a nice reward for solving each puzzle.
overengineered to be tricksy
They did some updates on freezing issues. it's still slow. it should be better than this *** Now it's crashing on iPadOS 17.3.1. IT'S STILL SLOW. WHAT ARE THE SLOW MENUS DOING - MINING BITCOIN IN THE BACKGROUND? WHY IS THE MENU INTERFACE STILL SO SLOW? What did you do, write it in Electron? the app is laggy and slow and freezes on an ipad air 3, especially the menus. it's a simple puzzle game. what is it doing? **** Dark mode at night is a joke. flash teal, then back to black? CHODE and REGES are in? AX and SEXY are disallowed? really? UPDATE 3: TRUES ? UPDATE 2: SOMEWHATS ? ISMS ? really? dictionary and plurals are broken. UPDATE: surprisingly, I've stuck with it, though the American language grates. Today, the daily classic and mini had FLIED and AMIDS as words. FLIED is, I think, some baseball specific term, but AMIDS? really? More attention needs to be paid to word choice, selecting from words common across multiple variants of English. Daily wordle player here. I tried to like this, got through the ten free puzzles easily sans hints, did a bunch of dailies. but this won't have staying power in its ever more convoluted puzzles. and the slow grid animation landscape behind the playing area makes me queasy. [option now added to disable it, but it defaults to on] Rather like Zach Gage's ReallyBadChess, this is smart, fairly polished ,well executed for what it is... but somehow empty and ultimately unfulfilling. Oh, and I have to subscribe to see previous puzzles I've completed? that's nickel and diming, and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Wish I had access to more free gamea
Could be 5 stars if not for glitches
I really love this game. It is calming but also satisfying. And I do highly recommend the paid version. Except for one thing. My 3 star rating is because there’s a glitch in the program that causes massive delays from between clicking on something and that something actually loading. It even happens sometimes after the game has loaded and I’m tapping letters and nothing happens. It also happens when I get a text or other notification. The whole game lags. It used to be a minor annoyance but it’s been getting progressively worse so it’s become quite aggravating. I’ve been playing this game for over 1 year. Wish they would just fix it already.
My favorite puzzle game
Knotwords is the best puzzle game I know. One aspect I’ll call out is that even the “easy” puzzles are satisfying. A Monday daily may be solvable in less than 30 seconds, but it still calls for some thought and therefore doesn’t feel brainless or automatic, the way a Monday sudoku puzzle does.
Fun, but frustrating
As noted elsewhere, the app is often slow slow slow. Slow to load, slow to change to other puzzles, slow to complete. A big frustration is the absolutely frustrating brain-dead algorithm which jumps from cell to cell, often during entry even, jumping to random cells and causing next entries to overwrite a correct entry. Totally annoying and frustrating. If they cannot write a reasonable algorithm they should offer the option to shut off the stupid one.
Has some quirks, but I do love it
I have over 700 days playing this game so, obviously, I do enjoy it. However, there is a quirk I wish it would fix. When I have completed a word correctly, and am filling out other squares, I don’t think the program should allow a letter to be inputted in a section where the word is already the correct word. I find it frustrating to think I know the next word only to find that the program has stuck letters where I didn’t want it and now I have to go back and correct what it has done. That’s my major complaint. Otherwise, I do love it, and believe that paying to be able to play the extra games is worth it.
Glitch is frustrating
Every few weeks, sometimes twice a week a daily puzzle is not credited as being completed so your ‘streak’ ends and you need to complete seven more games to restore your streak. I complete the daily game, click back to the beginning to ensure it has been credited as completed with the date and time I completed it, and still receive notifications the next day, I did not complete that game. It is very annoying.

Great game, unstable app
This is a really fun, challenging, and engaging word game. Unfortunately, the app is very unstable, constantly freezing and crashing. I often can’t even complete one level without it crashing. If the developers can sort this out then I’d give this 5 stars.
Pay increase just after I paid - not a good look :(
I love this game. I’ve played it for about a year and paid the $6.49 for annual subscription. Opened it today to realize there is now a lifetime payment at a good rate but they clawed back the archive and tricky daily puzzles I could play. AND I just paid the $6.49 for another year. It would be nice to have the $6.49 I JUST PAID to the one time price. Great app but you guys are greedy shisters. ☹️
