Application size!!
I’m in the process of downloading this because hank green recommended it on youtube but the app size! Can it be optimised? 500mb seems a bit much for a mobile game (but I’m no developer)
A bit hard to grasp
There’s a lot going on in this game, and you’re only allowed to play once a day without spending money. I can feel that the developers have put a lot of time and care into developing something fresh and fun here but I can’t help but find the paywall frustrating. $8 is a pretty fair price for unlimited play, but it’s a fairly complicated game as you unlock more ‘gubbins’ and if you’re only playing one quick game in the morning you could easily get overwhelmed the next day trying to remember how things work or what your strategies are. I think it would benefit a lot from a free trial period for new players even if it’s just two or three days. I want to play more, and I would totally pay to play more if I understood the mechanics better, but as it stands right now I don’t even know if it’s something I would want to play more of since there’s so much thrown at you and not a lot of space to process anything.
Freezing issue
I’ve played the game before but just redownloaded on a new phone, it’s a great game but my new phone is frozen on the Studio Folly screen. I hope there is some way I can play cause I was really wanting to do it again
Best word game
Seriously the best word game ever. From the background music to the funky gubbins, you really can’t find a word game that beats this
Wanted to enjoy
You only get like 2 games of free play before the paywall and a 12 hour wait for another single game.
Good game with room for more
Art style is fantastic and the mechanics offer a decent amount of variation. It’s a relatively simple game though; because letters are removed instantly when you submit a word, there’s no incentive to create words in multiple directions. It would be cool (and challenging) if there was a “cross” mode, where you can highlight words vertically AND horizontally using the same letters, then submit them all at once.
Abandoned by developers
Very disappointed to have bought this game for myself and for my family members just to have it abandoned by the developers a year later. How can you justify taking 7 dollars per person for less than a year of ok game play. Every time I try to play now I am slowed by extreme lag, glitches, crashes, and random bugs. Disappointed in the creators who abandoned this game and a little bit in Hank green who encouraged me to spend my money on this. This is a fun game. I wish I could still have an enjoyable experience playing it.

Favourite Word Game So Far
This game is soooo well done! I played the free version for a few months before deciding to buy the full version - which was well worth it. I love how the daily games are engaging and culturally relevant. I can’t get enough!! Go Gubs

I think GUBBINS is a nice game to play on my daily commute! I’m not sure what happened by the latest update on my iPhone 8 won’t load past the Studio Folly screen!

Enjoyable word game, akin to crossword - familiar enough to be easily playable, but with lots of fun creatures and boosters and gameplay additions to make it interesting. My only complaint - 1 play per day or it’s $7.99?!? Insanity.

Hank Green yelled me through the process of downloading this masterpiece and i’m very thankful I downloaded it. It’s good to have a little daily game, as someone who is struggling to get up every morning, and the fun little art style and challenges it throws at me makes it fun. thanks :)

Great game but why adds even after paying?
I played this game every morning for weeks as you get one free play a day. I decided to pay 7.99 CAD to be able to play when I want. The game still gives adds. This is ridiculous especially after paying 8 dollars.
Great for kids and beginners!
Not for me because I felt like it was holding my hand the whole time I was playing and that isn't fun for me. But for people that like a catered experience or children that are just learning about word games it's great! I'll stick to crosswords.

Fun but there’s a really long wait tilt between games
The games go by pretty quickly if youre into it, but then you have to wait like 18 hours to play the next one. It kills my flow bro.

Addicting and fun
I came for Hank Green and Partners in Health and am so happy I did! This is a great game. It took me a while—at least ten games and maybe more—to figure out what the objective was, what plays were allowed (hint: it’s not like scrabble) and how to get high scores, but it was fun even when I had no idea what I was trying to achieve. I was concerned that it might become boring once I figured out how to play, but it was quite the opposite. I am now totally hooked. My one complaint is that the dictionary used by the game is VERY and unpredictably restrictive and there’s no way to know if a word will be accepted without playing it. For instance, it didn’t accept “rewashing” as a word (also not “rewashed” nor “rewash”.) Seems odd, as this is a reasonably common word. Another example is that it didn’t accept “smirker”, i.e., a person who smirks. Not as common as rewashing, but still definitely a word and certainly not obscure. These are just two examples of many. The three “undos” can be helpful for surprise non-words, but they only undo the most recent move so aren’t always enough. Moreover, I’d prefer to save my undos for accidentally misplaced tiles and for sloppy logic errors that become clear right after I’ve played. If the very restrictive dictionary is an intentional challenge for the game, it would be nice if they’d at least allow us to check a word before playing it. Regardless, five stars.
Frustrated Can Be Fun…Right?
Kudos to whoever came up with ideas for the bad Gubbins. Like the one that infests the final square before I can complete the word I had been working on for the entire round, or the one that locks a 9x9 space just as I was about to clear the entire board. You made me feel something…the feeling may have been frustration but it was exhilarating nonetheless. I love words games and this ticked all my boxes. It’s like a single player scrabble, so the only score I have to beat is my own personal best (I swear I’m never going to get that high a score ever again, the number of bad Gubbins ruining my life are multiplying exponentially).
