Fix UI please
I love this app but would love even more if I wasn’t constantly getting logged out! Please fix so if I sign in with the wrong method (i.e, apple ID instead of Google) i can easily sign back out instead of having to delete and redownload the app!!
Why is every app a subscription?
What was wrong with an app that just offered helpful information for free? The payment isn’t modest either. It was pretty pricey. Not worth it
Bug that deletes an entire day’s meal plan
There is an infuriating bug where if you add a food (it doesn’t seem to matter what food, it just happens sometimes) to a day on a meal plan, that food will be added to that day but it will delete every single other food you put on that day. It will even do it to as many days as you add that food on. So, if I put yogurt on every breakfast for a given week as the very last food added onto a meal plan, there is a chance that it deletes literally EVERY. SINGLE. THING. that isn’t yogurt. Pleeeeeeeeease fix this!!!!!!!
Glitchy app doesn’t work.
This app is buggy, to the point where none of the features that they’re charging $20 will even load when I open or refresh the app! The only help you get is an FAQ saying to delete the app and try again lol. Deleting your account won’t work either. You just get redirected to the website, and told to “fill out a form” that doesn’t even exist.
Food Information Great, Recipes Not So Much
The guides and how to serve information are great and very helpful. Unfortunately I’ve tried numerous recipes for them to not turn out. The directions aren’t clear resulting in wasted time. I would recommend finding another app if you want recipes to feed your baby.
Peace of mind
I love this app! I’m on my second kid and second time using this app. It gives me such peace of mind knowing I can figure out the safest way for my kid to try new foods.
1 star
You have to pay for everything.
Great information, but navigation could use help
I am enjoying trying solids with my baby and thanks to this app it very simple. My only gripe is confusing navigation — age-appropriate recipes are somewhat buried, favorited foods aren’t easy to find, and planner isn’t necessarily useful. In the age when everything is an app, I want to have less features, not more.
Can you say price gauge
I’m so confused. I loved this app for my first child and when it was $9.99/year. I understand inflation, but $99.99/year!?!?! Absolutely not. That’s awful for mothers just trying to learn how to best feed their babies.
Breastfeeding moms beware
I’ve used this app for both of my kids. I love the serving recommendations for serving different types of food to babies as they grow!!! However, I have noticed that they write about breastfeeding and how frequently babies nurse with a negative tone in their articles. They seem to really encourage weaning by 12mo even though it’s recommended to breastfeed for at least 2 years. I think they need to use more neutral language around how often babies are nursing.
Feeding with Confidence
I have used solid starts to BLW for both of my kids and havent found another app like solid starts that i have enjoyed. Its super informative everything is together and its really easy to navigate. I always recommend this app when chatting with another parent about solids or BLW.
Don’t waste your time
This app SUCKS. I’m constantly having to login, and there’s a login bug where upon login the app just spins. Have to force close and open again to use the app. Also, there’s no way to print a recipe. I mean, who would want to print a recipe when they could get their phone dirty while cooking? Absolutely not worth $100 a year.
Overall Very Helpful, but the tracking needs reworking
Overall, Solid Starts has a wealth of helpful information about baby led weaning. I especially like the visuals for how the foods can safely be served at each age. My only struggle with the app is tracking. I try to use the meal plan part, but sometimes, I just ended up serving a food, not a meal and wish there was a way to input that. Also, when introducing allergens, I wish it would count on the badges as soon as I introduced it, but it only counts when it gets served at the time it gets suggested as a meal, which is only once a week. If I went at that pace, it would take forever to introduce all the allergens and the upkeep for them. I wish the tracking was more condensed, simplified, or at least offer more flexibility. The calendar tracking is unfortunately not easy to check what food was served at a glance too.
Way overpriced for what you get
I never write reviews, but today when again I couldn’t find a basic food in their database I felt forced to write this review! This app charges 100!!! $ a year and doesn’t have a database of many many foods, forcing me to google most of the foods I feed my daughter anyways, so I might as well not have the app altogether. Additionally it does not let you create your own meals for the baby so you can add those easily to the log. I think a huge part of BLW is that babies eat at the family table and get introduced to “adult” foods in a save manner, but good luck finding those in the app… the only reason I give 2 stars over 1 is that their customer service is very nice and helpful
Got worse
I’ve used the free version for years, rly helps with little babies. They just changed it and put 95% of the info /pictures behind a paywall. Really sucks but at least other sites are free.
Starting real food is scary but solids starts gave me the confidence I needed!
I tell everyone to get this app when thinking about starting solids. It’s easy to use, easy to navigate and helps you confidence as a first time mom so much.
Didn’t Save Progress
I’ve been adding food over a period of months, and one day it logged me out and deleted all the progress. I had already paid for a premium subscription. Very frustrating.
Help
I’ve been using this app since April and I’ve really enjoyed it. However, today I tried opening the app and all of my data got erased. I’m hoping someone can restore this.
Not intuitive
The app is nice looking but food options are not extensive and app is not intuitive. My baby tried a bunch of foods already and there is not an easily found way to mark a bunch as tried, you have to find and go i to each food to mark it off as tried. If there is an option to do this its not easily found.
Minor complaints
I love the suggestions to serve by age, but I feel that they make it difficult to record the allergens (badges) and it is constantly logging me out. Would appreciate them to fix these bugs.
Best Resource!
As a third time mom I’m still constantly checking solid starts to make sure I’m preparing food in the correct way. It’s my go-to and most trusted resource!
Terrible app
Basic function doesn’t work. I tried to log food but after selecting a date it takes me to another calendar thats broken. Very frustrating.
App was fixed by deleting and reinstalling. Still haven’t really used yet
..
Disappointed in the changes
I happened upon Solid Starts five years ago when I learned about baby led weaning and it was the best thing!! The app and all the videos on instagram helped me navigate the process of feeding my little one and I raved about it to my friends. Fast forward to 2026 and I’m starting my new baby’s feeding journey and I’m incredibly disappointed by how little content is available without a subscription. The videos and recipes that were formerly free are now not available without a subscription.
Nice for ideas, logging food is confusing
Lovely for ideas and shows you beautifully how to prepare it all. But for logging foods, there’s too many options for the food alone vs a “meal” version vs the allergen logging. As a parent with a child experiencing allergies, logging is so important to keep track and this system is confusing. Especially because the info on this app pushes hard on the introductory of allergens early. The badges are not great either, just add to the confusion/guilt? App would majorly benefit from simplifying and better visual to grasp where your child is at currently.
I was worried about picky eating, instead my baby tried 200 foods.
I really don’t know what I would have done without solid starts. There are numerous significant cases of picky eating (perhaps ARFID) in my family, and I wanted to set my son up with the best possible chance of a healthy relationship with food. In spite of navigating food allergies, my son had ended up being a lover of a vast array of foods, and perhaps more importantly, a lover of eating with family. One of the biggest surprises I had using this app was how much the developmentally on-point serving suggestions seemed to enhance my baby’s interest in each food. Could he have eaten things served in different sizes than the recommendations? Of course, but he was actually more likely to eat the foods when they were served as recommended for his age in the app. I could not be more impressed with an app. It’s a gem.
Review
Has a subscription. Not worth it
Great content but can be glitchy
Amazing info and guidance! However the app keeps crashing on me when I type a food into the search bar
Money Hungry
I hate to say I feel that way, but I do. I decided to buy the book first when I saw anything of use in the app would cost money to unlock and unfortunately the book has minimal useful information and instead, repeatedly refers you to their app. The thing is, so many of us new moms are so worried about doing solids right, that as outrageous as $100 a year is, I’ll pay it for the peace of mind for my child. It just doesn’t feel good or ethical to be charging what they are and seemingly cutting off access to a whole demographic because they can’t afford it.
Overpriced
I don’t recommend buying the subscription. It’s literally $100 for information that I could easily find by googling, asking my pediatrician, or buying an $8 baby-led weaning book. I forgot to cancel after the free trial and so was charged for a year’s subscription, but I figured it might be worth it. Unfortunately, I can’t say that it was. The app is also kind of slow and clunky. I did not find the plans, etc., particularly easy to navigate, for instance, if I wanted to skip over something I’d already introduced. I’m not sure if the free version of the app allows you to look up how to serve the different foods by age, but that was the only feature I really used and again could have looked that info up for free (and used my instinct after a couple months). I actually wish they would at least make the subscription monthly because by about 3 months into solids, I had absolutely no need of it.
Great reference
As a board certified Pediatrician, I realized I didn’t know the details of HOW TO feed my child. This app is an excellent resource to any parent who wants to raise a child that eats diverse foods! I recommend to patients regularly.
PLEASE FIX THE CONSTANT SIGN OUT ISSUES
This app is great when it’s actually functioning, but I am constantly getting signed out, putting the password in directly from Apple’s password manager, and then being told I don’t have an account. Also, when attempting to troubleshoot this issue repeatedly, the only way to back out of the system that tries to force you into making a new account is to completed delete the app and redownload so you can try again with a different combo. Extremely mad that we paid for this app and it has so many issues.
Love it but got expensive
Used this with my first child and paid for subscription it was very affordable and easy to use I believe I paid $12 in 2023. Sad to see the changes but glad I can still see how to cut and serve foods
Login required - why?
1. The app first asks users if it’s a “five star experience.” if yes, it directs them to give a review here on the App Store. If not, it directs them to a website to write feedback privately. This warps ratings. 2. Login required. Absolutely no reason other than selling your info for marketing. 3. More and more foods behind a paywall.
Great if you can afford it
This app was fantastic three years ago when it was much more accessible. I redownloaded it for my second and, unless you can afford a subscription, it doesn’t feel useful. I’m shocked even the food tracker has to be paid for now.
Great for starting solids
Loved this app my first baby and using it again for my second. It’s so scary to know how to serve foods and what foods to serve your baby. Their chart on how to cut the food for what age group is literally a life saver and gives you so much confidence giving your baby new food!
Paid for app, but keeps asking for subscription
Constantly getting signed out, only to be asked to create new account - so losing all saved foods. I paid for the annual subscription, but keeps asking me to pay to subscribe and locked out of paid features. Help!
Informative but not very functional
The information on this app gives so much support to mothers and their babies as they begin solids. This app has everything to make the starting solids journey easier and I will continue to use it. It is however a very slow and functionally poor app. It frustrated me 4 years ago with my first daughter and I’m surprised 4 years later with my second, it’s still has tons of kinks, for example when trying to log food it never lets me click save. I’ll continue to use the app for information purposes but tracking with it clearly won’t be happening.
Paywalls
If you’re looking for a free source this would not be totally it. Yes there is some good info in this app but a GIANT portion of it is hidden by pay walls and I’m not paying $20 a month for an app as IMO that’s pretty expensive. *RESPONSE* I’m well aware of X-ing out and navigating the database, you’re not understanding that in order to gain access to MANY other things in this app, including being able to click options under “meals with this ingredient”, being able to watch a video of preparation or how to feed to a baby - that it’s behind a paywall and the paywall isn’t super reasonably priced. $100 for the year or $20 a month is crazy. I don’t even spend $20 a month for any of my subscription apps including streaming apps. If the app was tiered better, and the monthly cost was so high I’d actually consider subscribing. You’re not listening to everyone when they are making you aware of the out of touch price point. All you do is tell them the food database is free and to just ignore when the app is telling you “hey you have to pay to access this”……
Great app but way too expensive
Great app but way too expensive to access the tracking part of the app
Must have!
Reference this all the time for baby led weaning! Highly recommend.
Non Functioning
I paid the subscription to help me with my baby’s food but it’s just non functioning. Every time I type the ingredients it just completely blanks out and leaves the app. So i pretty much wasted my money. It could be useful for the way to safely serve food for their age but that’s the free option. So i definitely don’t recommend subscribing to it.
Helpful info
The app has so much amazing information that was very useful for starting solids. Some things in the app direct you to the website so the bouncing back and forth between the app and a browser is a little inconvenient especially for the price tag.
Bad App, Good information
The app continues to crash every time i try to look up how to serve a vegetable. Just searching cucumber will crash it. I am constantly logged off and since my wife is the one that has the paid account, I just end up googling the info I need instead of spending time login-in while with our baby.
App crash
The app itself is amazing, the videos, the directions, it’s all so helpful! But the app crashes so often when I am looking up foods or using the search function it has forced me to use other sources which is so disappointing when I’ve paid for this app
Great App for the first years
This has been such a reliable resource in helping both my kids safely try new foods and given us many ideas on how to serve and challenge them.
Way to expensive
Super annoyed I gave my email and everything THEN it decided to tell me I need to either pay 20 a month or $100 for the app. That’s insane and misleading. Deleted the app literally right after I downloaded it, waste of time.
Useful but restrictive
I was recommended this app and I can understand why as the database is useful for beginning baby led weaning; however there are a couple of issues that would be helpful to know when subscribing. Firstly, to access the allergen introductory meals you need to unlock them one by one which makes shopping and planning for feeding impossible as you have to log the meal as done to see what you need for the following day, this does not make for a sensible way of operating with a baby as you may not have the suggested items to serve unless you are up for daily shopping. You can somewhat work round this by marking the meals as done but then it automatically logs each ingredient which you have to individually remove if you have not tried them with your baby yet. I also found the suggested meals assumed you had already served other recipes that hadn’t been suggested which meant hopping between meals for preparation guidance and, again, made planning tricky. All in all a useful tool but the free part would be sufficient if you don’t want to follow the suggested day by day plan or waste time deleting logs to access meals.
Keeps crashing
Far too many glitches for how much they’re charging on a monthly basis. It crashes 8/10 times these days. Will be cancelling due to this but it was helpful when we were first trying solids (…when it worked).
Great app but crashes often
This app is great for proving a lot of useful information and has helped me feel a lot more comfortable and confident about starting my baby on solids. However, unfortunately the app seems to crash a lot. Often I will open it to search a new food and as soon as I click on that food item the app closes. I paid for a year subscription and am starting to regret it.
