Great for correct grammar
I am working on relearning German, which I spoke as a child through young adult. The toughest aspect of German is its grammar. Other apps are riddled with errors. My German family has reviewed translations provided by DeepL and found them very accurate, including the more difficult grammar aspects. My family is from Bavaria, so there are also differences in vocabulary and idiomatic expressions (although many are found in the „Alternatives“ section). I am teaching my almost three-year-old granddaughter German side-by-side with English. I appreciate the feature that allows me to hit the record button, say the phrase in English, then say the provided typed phrase in German for my granddaughter. Occasionally, I will play the recording, giving her the opportunity to hear a voice other than mine. For myself, I use the regular speed to double check my pronunciation accuracy, but I appreciate the option that allows me to slow down the phrase for my toddler granddaughter. Thank you for such a great app! It means a lot to have a source that I trust to teach me and my granddaughter virtually error free.
Terrible Customer Service
Expect no response for at least 2 weeks. But on top of it nothing helpful comes out. Left a bad taste.

Unusable due to bad playback
Randomly mispronounces spanish words. Separately, first syllable gets cut off if you use a bluetooth speaker. Lastly, audio quality is generally poor.
Me and my GF love this app, but fix the voice translate speed option
On Android the speed works fine but on iOS it’s not even usable. The ”normal” 1 voice speed is super slow. The .75 speed is extremely slow. The .5 speed is simply never used by anyone I’m sure. And the only option to faster that “normal” (too slow to even use hardly), is the 1.25 speed which is faster than an auctioneer. Please speed up the “normal” speed to a natural speed. Brownie points for changing to the robot voice too. Thank you!!
Kurdish ( Badini )
I request of your excellency, I hope, I hope you add the Kurdish language, Badini dialect. Many people are waiting for this thing, even if you rely on Gemini, just so this dialect is added.

Best translator for Latin American Spanish I’ve found
This has actual LatAm Spanish translation. I do wish there was a preference setting for JUST the languages I’m interested in. Toggling between two is great, but some time it changes to detest language and makes navigating much more painful. Maybe also a setting to turn off detection.
Upside down text
I’m not sure if this is a bug, but when trying to translate text from my print manga in Japanese in the Camera view (live text translation), it always translates it upside down. Like, why? Translating Manga is the reason ok downloaded this app, but this is a bug I can’t get used to.

Dialects.
The app is 100% accurate but why is it so hard to get dialects? I’m trying to translate words into American English yet it translates into the British version and it’s really hard to try to choose to dialect, I have to struggle in order to get the one I’m trying to translate like I don’t want Swiss or Austrian German, GOD! But other than that the app is absolutely amazing and I’ll change it into 5 stars when that gets fixed.
Bad update
The most recent update makes the app much more difficult to use. Why did you delete the Copy (output) button?!? Without that, it requires several tedious steps to “send” the output to a specific app. 😫 What if I just want to paste into a note or an email I already have in progress??? It’s so much easier to just copy and paste. 😩
You’re being out classed by Google Translate and others
Your fixation on getting rich quicker is impacted the prestige and choice of a translation app… it is becoming financially eough to have, and because you are focusing on that route you are making it useless and frustrating as one cannot even appreciate the merits of the app…. So, jump into the Google app, which is getting better and better, that still needs to cover more languages and dialects… That’s my take… Deepl used to be my favorite app… Some us Translate by Kagi, it is also, free

My primary purpose was to use the live conversation mode. In just a little bit of quick testing it’s far behind the free Google Translate.
Quality has dropped
This USED to be the best translation app I had ever used, genuinely. I do know a lot of Spanish but sometimes if I’m needing to translate quickly or didn’t know a certain word I would use the app, and it was always correct…until recently. Idk what update happened or what it did, but the words it uses for Spanish translation are no longer correct!!! It’s so messed up now. I live in Mexico and my husband is Mexican…he used to confirm that translations were right and now we both look at things like wtf..wording is all wrong. I hate whatever happened. I swear this was in the last update or two, just here recently in the past few months. Please fix the Spanish!!!

Nice app. Please add option to scroll history of translations on main screen. When practicing Spanish I like to build on phrases and it helps to see what I just did. Thanks!

Screen appearance is off center after update
Was good, not anymore
It used to be so good. The translation was spot on and gave great informal alternatives instead of using the formal way of what needed to be translated. Now, it’s a mix of many different dialects that are not accurate and especially when it comes to the gender specific message you input it with. For example, I put “she” in and it comes back with a translated text that is for “he”. I don’t know what update they made to change this but now I am starting to look for other translation apps because this one is becoming more and more inaccurate. These details matter and you had it down perfect before.
Le conditionnel présent
I just noticed that DeepL is dropping “Rs” when translating from English into the French present conditional. For example: “she would take” should translate to “Elle prendrait”. DeepL is incorrectly telling me “prendait”, but when I hit the alternatives button, “Elle prendrait” is listed as an alternative option. Same thing happened with “they would eat”, “ils mangeraient” is being translated as “ils mangeaient”. Major mistake. Changes the entire pronunciation. Please fix this and review how other French tenses have been programmed into the app. Thanks.
Best translator I’ve seen in over 20 years
I don’t usually write reviews and typically haven’t had much respect for what I have seen. This product is truly excellent. It has a couple of minor flaws but it’s generally by far the best, and includes excellent additional features.

Why is there no way to change voice from female to male?
Needs to improve the camera translation efficiency—too slow
Much better at translating than Google and nearly all other competitors, however, the speed of camera translation is way too slow so I almost always choose Google instead. In most real world use cases time is critical, and waiting/freezing for almost 5 seconds isn’t really acceptable and made it much less useful.
Voice sound needs improvement
Use it for French. Very accurate and I love the option for alternative words and sentences. But the sound of the voice playback is horrible and sounds like a robot. This seems unacceptable in the age of AI.. The sound of the voices in Google Translate sound like real humans and are far superior. Deep L voice is painful and sounds like it’s from the 90s. Also, the layout is a little bit clumsy compared to Google Translate. I feel if these two things were improved, this app would be perfect.
Excellent for German
I was using another translator that was given me incorrect grammar and German and so I was getting puzzled. Looks while here in Germany is trying to speak to the public. I downloaded this app and finally, it is absolutely correct German!

Really good at what it does, but the free limits are annoying
This is one of those apps that feels better than a lot of translation apps the moment you start using it. The design is clean, fast, and not cluttered, which I really appreciate. It usually feels polished, and the translations often sound more natural and less robotic than what I get from some other apps. What I like most is that it feels simple. Open app, paste text, get a result quickly. No mess, no confusing layout, no feeling like I have to fight the app. For normal real-life use, that matters a lot. If I needed to understand a message, translate a paragraph, or check wording, I would trust this app more than most. What keeps it from being a 5 for me is that the free version can feel a little restrictive, and that gets annoying fast if you use translation regularly. It’s a very useful app, but it definitely nudges you toward paying. Also, for very short, casual translations, the difference between this and other free apps may not always feel big enough to justify that frustration. It is polished, but not “perfect.” Sometimes I also wish it felt a little more generous before hitting limits. Overall, I personally keep using it, especially because the core experience is strong and it feels like a serious app instead of a sloppy one. But I use it with the mindset of “great translator, slightly annoying free experience,” not “perfect no-complaints app.
Slooooow
The most recent updates have slowed this app way down to the point I’m ready to go back to Google Translate. I only use DEEPL for Spanish to English and back and it constantly defaults to “detect language” and then takes twice as long and often choses Italian 🤪. It never remembers that I translate from Spanish to English and makes me scroll through a list of 100s of languages to get to the two that I ONLY use EVERY time.
Not great for Estonian language
Frequently incorrect or unhelpfully vague. Also, autocorrect will try to fix every foreign word you type to your native language. No one has time to turn it off and on again every time they want to look something up

The app is not working on WIFI
Truly aggravating
Best translator but I got ripped off with the paid subscription
Definitely the best phone translator. Transcribes English to Korean and back extremely well. However, I needed more data usage and paid for the monthly subscription, that offers unlimited text translation. However, it stopped this service after about 15 days and said I need to upgrade to an even higher level. I upgraded to the only other level offered, which provided both translation and deep write. Paid an additional $14/month. However, I am still locked out and I keep getting a response I need to upgrade again, but no other upgrades are offered. Very frustrating

My iPad Pro (2 Gen) is stuck on ios 17. DeepL Translate installs, but crashes immediately on launch every time, in less than one second.

The most accurate free translation app I’ve found.
This was recommended to me by a native Spanish speaker, saying it was more accurate than just using the one by the popular search engine. I use it regularly for Spanish and mandarin, and have used it for Italian too. My only note is that when I need to hear the translation spoken the robot says it SO FAST. It’s also lower volume even though my settings are up high. Over all I really like and recommend the app, I just wish it had an option to speak a little slower lol
Useless at Japanese
Horrible translations, the camera function is garbage misses half the text and the stuff it does translate it translates upside down for some reason. And the translations are bad.

App freezing
The app freezes every time i dictate a phrase today (spanish to french) and i need to hard close it every time and launch it again
No informal language feature
This app works strikingly well but I decided to rate it poorly as it just like the almighty Google translate lacks a relatively simple and obvious, evidently needed and desired feature - the ability to choose informal mode in languages like Russian, Spanish, German and French. The majority of us will not want the formal mode used as default and the only workaround is to try to trick the system - in every single sentence - by adding a word like ‘dude, bro’ or ‘yo yo yo’ which forces it to switch to informal. Then later erase those words. Pretty absurd that most translation apps do not after all these years have a simple fix that would benefit hundreds of thousands of people on a daily basis. Because of this alone I rarely use DeepL and would never consider getting a paid version and use ChatGPT instead.
