truly awful app ruins great content
I found this app via Dungeon Crawler Carl audiobooks and wanted more. The DCC voice acting is great, and new content is fun, but this app is embarrassingly terrible. maybe the worst I ever downloaded. it only successfully loads maybe 50% of the time (and by load i mean successfully opens to the home page). which means my fairly pricey purchases cannot be accessed and I am paying $30 bucks for the privilege of looking at a loading screen. this app fails at its most elemental and basic, arguably sole function of connecting a user to what they bought. I dont see how I could reccomend any of their stories because chances are you can only sporadically hear them.
Good app with a BIG issue
So this app is great but for some reason downloads don’t finish downloading. ex episode 7 of season three of Dungeon Crawler Carl it just stops at the 75%ish mark. Overall all tho fun app
The app needs to catch up to the stories.
I love the content when I can get the app to load and stay open. I have all of the current releases of DCC and am trying to listen to them for the first time ( have listened to the audiobooks several times). I have yet to get through an episode with out it crashing and now I just had to delete the app and reinstall in hopes that I can even get it to load.
Great content but buggy
I love the content in the app, and the app itself is easy to navigate. The main issue is how buggy the app is. The main issue I have is it often times fails to open properly and I have to restart the app, and it failing to download content more time than not, even when on WiFi with a strong connection. If the bugs are fixed it’s easily 5 stars.
Doesn’t profit off of user data
I’ll give five stars to any app that focuses on user experience vs mining user data to package and sell.
App
Not worth your time if you travel and want to access books. App does not work without internet even if you download the titles. I am in season to of DCC and it will not let me download load the last few episodes. Not sure I will invest the time or money in to season 3 even though I’m really enjoying it. I will probably head back to Audible and redo the series there.
Getting closer
The app halts downloads during the last ~20% for me, and playback is hopeless during any state change on the phone. (Swapping apps, maximizing SBT from minimized while book is playing in the background, etc.). But I’m still a true believer in SBT. Gotta have my DCC and Boxie. Not to mention the fine content from the troll dancer, “The Author Steve Rowland”. Keep updating. We believe in you.
Great products, Janky app
I love the intent. Independent audiobooks and audio dramas. I but the UI on the app is clumsy and the app is constantly locking up, buffering endlessly, and forgetting my library. I have never used this app without having to restart it at least once.
Start up
Opening of the app is very slow.
Glorious content, most recent update fixed nearly every issue I’d had.
Let’s get this out of the way: the Dungeon Crawler Carl Audio Immersion Tunnel is a greater thing than sliced bread. I can slice my own bread, but damn if that thing isn’t a phenomenal work of collaborative art. If you haven’t listened to it, go buy it now. What Jeff Hays and the team at SBT are doing is pretty incredible. Their mission is a worthy cause to support, and most of the content is impressively low-priced for the production quality and volume. The catalog available here continues to expand all the time, and I feel good about the fact that I’m using a small platform that connects me more closely with the actual content creators. Prior to the most recent update I had definitely noticed some funkiness at times with playback; random pauses, app crashes while in the background, difficulty starting playback. But the most recent update seems to have resolved all of that, and I haven’t had any notable issues since.
Good but bad
First off, The content is great! App sucks A**. Quits playing randomly, doesn’t continue after chapters. Makes you refresh your session for some reason. Freezes. Have to force close and reopen the app to get it to play and the list continues.
Great app, needs CarPlay!
Excited to listen to more stuff. Finished Dungeon Crawler Carl series! Need to add CarPlay support to the app to easily pull up content and play it from the car screen.
Keeps crashing
App only opens half the time, need to keep deleting and redownloading. When it does open it kicks me off every 10 minutes, even though I am signed into my account and have paid for the audio file.
Great content, but app is very buggy
Lots of playback issues and crashing within the app, which takes away from some of the excellent content.
Only way I want to listen!
I am loving the Dungeon Crawler Carl adaptation! I read the books and had done audible but Soundbooth has really stepped up with the extra material and effects. Jag Barth and Shrek. Keep me laughing! Keep it up boys. There are a couple tiny glitches with the app, but I’m sure they will get worked out.
Very slow to launch, can’t use it offline
I really enjoy Jeff Hays’ narration and most D&D litRPG. However, the Soundbooth app has a few critical issues that make it hard to use or enjoy. 1. Whenever you launch the app, it takes a long time before you can continue playing. I’m not sure if it’s authenticating, trying to sync with your last played location, or something else. But it would be great if the app launch and usage could be instant. 2. The app doesn’t show the remaining duration of the book playing. It only shows the remaining duration of the current chapter, not the book as a whole. Unless you go to the library and download section. 3. I can’t use the app in offline mode at all. I went on a camping trip and was looking forward to finishing a few stories. But since the camp ground had hardly any mobile signal, I couldn’t use the app or play the already downloaded stories. 4. If the app needs to authenticate, it should have a range duration that accounts must be authenticated at least once a week, rather than every time you use it. I hope developers are working to address these issues.
DCC Alone makes it worth it
While there are some minor glitches and slow loading, I am having so much fun with the content that I find all that secondary. Keep tweaking to get it buttery smooth, but for now…thank you!
Content great! App horrible
The app doesn’t hardly work when you don’t have connection and will pause when connection is lost and regained even if the book is downloaded. It took 10 minutes to get the app to show anything other than loading screen and then I opened one book and it kept playing another.
Good Content, Mediocre App
As far as the content goes, I’ve been really pleased; I’ve really enjoyed the Dungeon Crawler Carl Audio Immersion Tunnel, and am looking forward to more of it coming out. It’s very disappointing to me, however, that the content is locked inside this app. The app is serviceable but not a great experience. It takes a very long time to load, which is annoying when I am just trying to resume the content I already have downloaded; it seems like they fetch their content for sale before allowing you to access the content you already have, and that process is not a quick one. There are also various bugs that make it confusing to use; for example, skipping to the next chapter continues to show the title of the current chapter, making it unclear whether it actually skipped forward or backward.
Worth it
My first and likely only review of any app. SoundBooth Theater does an amazing job and I highly encourage anyone on the fence to give it a shot. Very entertaining, great sound effects and narration. To those complaints about the app cutting out… Mongo is appalled.
Horrible app
My favorite book on here so I want to check it out. Other than that I will not think twice about getting this app. Loading is forever. Once you stop playing too long you have to reload but first have to close the open first or it won’t load. Not like audible app remain there and you can listen any time by taping you ear piece.

Great content but buggy app
First of all I have to say that the books I’ve tried have been very well done and are well worth the cost. Unfortunately the app itself needs work. It starts slow, stops playing randomly, and sometimes doesn’t automatically play the next chapter. I listen to audio books when I’m doing other things like chores or driving so I really don’t like to be fumbling with the app. Oh and it doesn’t seem to support car play.
Stories Great- App functionality is iffy
The app glitches all the time. Would give five stars to the performances. Make the app less glitchy and I will update my review and give more stars.
Phenomenal Work
It is unfortunate that the kind of work Soundbooth Theater produces remains somewhat of a niche considering the unbelievable quality of their productions. Going back to normal audiobooks after listening to any of Soundbooth’s work is genuinely kind of like whiplash. Also for an app that fulfills a very similar function to something like Amazon’s Audible despite not having Amazon’s pockets, this app is in an excellent technical state. Great UI and UX experience.
Fun, until it stops
The audiobooks are entertaining, but labeling is confusing. They do it as seasons and episodes, not book and chapters. Also, they never finished the entire book series that has been out for a few years and it appears the last season/episode only stopped by book 5. If they are not going to complete entire book series, when why purchase anything from them? I can’t recommend due to these two things, especially the part of never completing a series, which is the entire story… Guess going back to audible.
Content Great App Needs Work
The content on this app is amazing. The cinematic audio book quality is top notch and very immersive. You can tell the people working on these projects are extremely passionate about their craft. The app itself needs work in areas. The number one issue is that the app takes forever to open/load. Outside of that I have some minor qualms: overall navigation / UI could use some improvements. I wish the app was optimized to show up on my car dash when using Car Play (it shows once you play from phone, but it’s not selectable as an app on the dash before then).
App needs work
This by no means is a review of the product they create. I love the audiobooks and the great production quality. That being said the app is horrible. I lost count of the amount of times the book I was listening to would just stop for no reason. Now I can’t even access any of the books I bought or search for things I actually want to listen to. I recommend checking out their library…but maybe when the app is actually useful.
No bookmarks?!
Thank you for not collecting data. It’s nice to have access to new and interesting audiobooks/audio theater, but YIKES on the interface. No bookmarks?! Why does it take so long to load every time it’s launched? And it’s remarkably challenging to figure out where I am in the book - which doesn’t help compensate for the lack of bookmarks.
Good app and great audiobooks
These guys feel like artisans of their craft and produce some fantastic acted productions. Quite a lot of free things to listen to too, so no risk giving it a try.

Cannot always open while offline
Sometimes it’s weird when trying to open the app. When you DO have a connection it can take ages to get started to play anything.
Downloaded..... but you need internet to listen?
The production is flawless. The app.... falls off a cliff. You can't listen to downloaded content offline.? What's the point in downloading it? And the "hang tight" goes wild long.
Amazing content! But the app needs serious optimization.
Love the Dungron Crawler Carl series and been following all the episodes! My only gripe is the app is VERY slow to load. Sometimes it won’t even boot up and just freezes opening. Shouldn’t have to close and reopen the app 5 times just to start listening again. Easy 5 star rating once this gets fixed.
An Immersive Audio Adventure with Stellar Support!
Soundbooth has completely revolutionized the audio book experience. Their content is more akin to movie experience than a book. Most have a free chapter to try, use caution they get you hooked! Their support is outstanding as well! They assisted and fixed my issue after hours. I was so happy that I’m writing a review. Well earned team!
Non functional
I downloaded the app and it won’t even launch
Needs CarPlay functionality
Great app. Works without any major problems. However, it needs CarPlay functionality so that it is easier to use while driving. After using for a while, I am finding it doesn’t delete downloaded content properly. A new install is 85MB. With out downloaded content it was 2GB. The app is still good. Just needs some fine tuning.
Download & Purchase Issues - No family Sharing
I enjoy the content but the management and download of purchased content is poor. I allowed my son to buy a season and it didn’t download, but I got billed. It’s a bit frustrating, hoping second day of trying to troubleshoot with customer service will resolve the issue.
Slow software
Ummmm. Developers please fix this sloooooow app. I know they pay you guys well. Other than that great stories!
Great app
I’ve loved SBT productions for years. The new and improved app is way faster and no more glitches. Can’t wait for the second season of Dungeon Crawler Carl.
This app is a mess
Why does it take 7-10 business days for the app to open? It’s very sluggish when navigating the app also.
Production and voice acting quality is great
So far I have only been listening to the dungeon crawler Carl series, but I have been really impressed with the quality of the productions. The app has limited controls and I wish it allowed you to download a whole season of a show in one click rather than by episode. Additionally I wish there was a companion app for Apple Watch. Not much else to say. Great sound quality, easy to use and high quality productions to listen to. The full cast productions bring the books to life in a way simple audio books cannot.

Great Listens But App Needs Improvement
The books offered are phenomenally narrated! However I have nothing but trouble with the app itself. I would love to see it on Apple CarPlay. Additionally the biggest issue I have is pausing a book and coming back to it later. It saves my spot sometimes, but other times when I reopen the app, it starts from the next chapter a few minutes in or a few minutes behind where I was. It’s very inconsistent.
Always great performances!
The app is great. A little clunky registering, but worth the effort. Listened for an hour last night and was thoroughly entertained. If you’ve listened to Soundbooth productions, then you need to download the app to get the exclusive stuff on here. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!

Constantly disconnect constantly goes into loading screens… If this doesn’t get fixed soon all the content that is golden. It’s just gonna be wasted..
I only have a couple of issues
The app itself is great. There's just one thing that bugs me. I'm unable to rewind past the beginning of a specific chapter. For example, I missed the end of chapter 15, so I would like to go back and listen to it again, but when I press the go back 30 seconds button, it just goes back to the beginning of chapter 16. I am also experiencing freezing that has been mentioned in several other reviews.
Good content, terrible app
The content is great, but the app design is so frustrating. The thing takes FOREVER to load, the layout is unintuitive, downloading and deleting files is a pain, and randomly the app just won’t work!
Reliability
As always the performances and books are incredible, but the app itself isn’t that great. It constantly tells me my session expired while I’m mid-listen. On top of that it very frequently will randomly just pause itself despite having the book I’m listening to being downloaded.
