Easy platform to use. Staff are fantastic. Perks are a bonus :)
Admin fee!
Used LNER for years, no issue. Made a stupid error booking wrong date and was charged a £10 ‘admin’ fee to change the date by clicking a few buttons. Shocking. Sort it out you robbing thieves !

You keep asking me to download the app and I’ve used it for years . I asked for travel updates on the app but you said you didn’t recognise me ! I writing to you on the app so please acknowledge me . I love it and use it all the time but have to get updates on what’s app !!
Doesn’t cover all LNER trains
Well done for fixing glitch that meant tickets didn’t show up in ‘my journeys’. Still a glitch that not all LNER services can be booked on the LNER app. (Bizarre!). Eg 19:40 8/4/26. Was using app from 18:30. No mention of 19:40 at all. 19:45 cancelled. Turns out there was a 19:40 I could have taken. Train was there and I saw it go. Couldn’t get refund on 20:30 with new rules.
Decent app
This app is easy to use and the free £5 is a good perk however the 2% cash back only on lner trains forces you to use their service and the extreme difficulty to receive a refund even if you cancel a ticket well in advance is very off putting

We feel very loyal to LNER as a company due to: The wonderful staff, Good quality food, Good staff service, Ease of use of the website and the loyalty points system. Well done LNER!
Given £5 credit but impossible to redeem
Keeps saying I can’t use the credit as journey not valid. Incredibly difficult to use app, can’t redeem credit, Perks add on doesn’t work either but used £5 credit. Have deleted app!!
New issues
App was great, no booking fees. Now ‘upcoming’ in ‘journeys’ no longer has my valid open return tickets. It would be good if the app also did SplitSave.
Staff vibes vs LNER vibes
Lner staff are almost always very nice on board a train but their business is very hard nosed and cut throat which kind of sucks. There’s always someone who doesn’t make their train and therefore there is an empty seat but try getting a refund for a ticket you no longer need or chasing the for delay repay? I believe that the sihtification of modern life is one of their business ideologies.
Mind the (huge) gaps
Could easily be so much better. Impossible to sort the simplest of tasks easily such as changing reserved seats or actually knowing what seating situation awaits once you take your seat. I ended up no window, zero view, first class trip. Note: this is in no way reflected by my only high admiration for all the staff I have interacted with from the ticket window (needed to go because of app glitch), to resolute members at the platforms who always ho that extra mile for travelers, including the stewards on the train.

Live trains view doesn’t fit on my iPhone. I cannot see the train time properly- the first digit of the hour column is to the left of the screen. Apart from that the app is very good.
Slow app!
I’m on a LNER train and App is taking 15-20 minutes to download! Not a good start… 😳
Updates…
Stupid app decided, as I am sitting on station platform waiting for my train, that the app needs to be updated. Despite being used 30 minutes earlier to buy tickets for my journey. And once the update message is displayed, you can’t view the tickets, or defer the update. Not a great ‘feature’. Usually it’s fairly easy to use and has been reliable.

This last week I’ve had so many pointless adverts from this app. Yes. I know that trains exist, no, nobody wants a Valentine’s Day LNER gift card, I’m uninstalling this for now until they learn to be less annoying.

New bug?
Since the upgrade I’ve been unable to access the app on my iPhone. I’m using IOS 18 so there’s no issue with my phone. Any suggestions as I used the app regularly.
Good UI but slow to load
Easy to book tickets on the app but it is often slow even on a good connection. Would like the live departures to be more visible rather than tapping on arrow on route status and seeing web UI (in app would be better)
Great app and easy to use.
Used this App for many years now and it makes buying tickets easy to do. Keeps me informed about my travel arrangements via text and if your train is delayed it automatically processes your refund.
Can’t buy tickets
Waste of time. Select my tickets click Contribute and it never lets me pay just dots going across the button. Seriously the developers had one job!
4.39.0 update broken
10 Sep 25 version 4.39.1 seems to be working again. 20 Aug 25 updated to 4.39.0, 21 Aug 25 it won't open. I see the red screen with LNER for 10-20 secsi then it crashes out. Tried restart of phone, then offloading and reinstalling, still no luck. HELP (Old review below) When planning a journey I sometimes can’t move from selecting a day on the calendar to selecting a time (need to scroll down, but no matter where I swipe it won’t move down and show the time selector). Worked around by using “later” or “earlier” trains on the following screens. Otherwise a pretty good app.
App crash with 18.5
Unfortunately the app no longer starts. Crashes before opening.
Viewing seat reservations
Whenever I try to view booking details of seat reservations within the app, it says it cannot find the journey itinerary. It seems this is a new bug, as previously it worked. This only seems to be an issue with seat reservation only bookings and not ticket bookings. Otherwise the app is usually very good, just a small bug that is irritating as you then have to go to the website to make any changes.

Confusing
Have looked at booking a journey on the LNER website and then the app. The trains times largely differed, the prices differed for those that were the same by up to almost a factor of 3, and one had track-works noted with bus service for part of the journey, whilst the other did not for the same journey. I really couldn’t make up how bad this is. Actually the opposite of LNER trains which are pretty good.

For some reason I now can’t use the app on my iPhone- I’ve deleted and reloaded several times but seems stuck on the red front page

First Timer Upgrade
I’ve always been impressed with LNER notifications and this time informed me of availability to First Class at a nominal rate ! What a chance for our upgrade! Thank you LNER
UI hard to use
Not sure why they decided to add this next day thing, it is super confusing now and a single misclick can mess up your train tickets dates without realising. Absolutely nightmare to use

Could get group discount or the discount for signing up. Can’t figure out why.
Change is impossible
Why is it so insanely difficult to change an itinerary once you’ve purchased a ticket? Compare with the Deutsche Bahn app, which makes it super easy to modify an existing reservation if a connecting train is running late. The ability to change / modify an existing reservation is a pretty standard functionality of most train apps. Why not here?

Boo: The ics file download feature seems to have been withdrawn from the website. It should be available in both places. But I don’t see where it has been added in the app. Maybe because my journey has two legs? I dunno. I’m stumped, and I don’t know where to go to find app documentation or help pages. Boo: in the journey planner, it’s only possible to see five choices at a time. That’s not a screen size limit, as the panel scrolls. It should be possible to use a more compact display format, and comfortably list 10 to 15 journey options. The website has the same problem, with even less reason. Otherwise, this is a reasonably good way to book journeys on the east coast main line.
Easy peasy
This one of the most intuitive and uncomplicated apps I have ever used. I’ve had to change the date of a booked journey twice because of family circumstances. I can’t quite believe how straight forward the process was!
Stopped working
I use this app all the time but it now fails to launch and I can’t get beyond the red screen. My mother has the same issue. Tried all the “tricks and hacks” to no avail… help!!!
Very difficult to use tickets. For travel from Twickenham to York
Why is it that none of the tickets sent to us were accepted at any of the gates from Twickenham to York? Gate assistants had to open every gate.
Best train ticket app in the UK
I used many train apps but always stick with LNER for buying tickets, even though I’ve never traveled on LNER. Great UX, amazing features (instant refund if you suddenly made a mistake in your booking), occasional cash back offers with some bank apps. What more can I say?

Please add Online collection Function on Website and App. With just the code + credit card details. Generate a QR code and ticket. Either instantly download or send to my E-Mail. It is my 1st Time in UK. It is so unusual to print out the ticket while already having the collection code on phone. I bought it from 3rd party App at cheap price. Please really add this function. Normal People do NOT know, that they need to print it out. Normally on App is all done. Even Flixbus has this function. Just the code + credit card details please. Thank you very much. God bless you.
