Love this App!
This watch to 5k is an amazing app. I am pushing 60 years old and had never run more than a mile in my life. Size 11 flat feet, undersized lungs, and being heavy do not make for a runner. But after completing this watch to 5k program, I have now run two 5K events and done very well! I never would have started running without this app for my Apple Watch. It is perfectly paced so that I never had an injury as I built up to a full 5k run. Now on to training for 10k runs! Thank you for giving me the gift of running!
Poor
Woman barely says anything, no encouragement and can’t get volume high enough. Sometimes can’t hear her speak and especially if listening to music.
It’s ok
Quite like the app works well with Apple Music and stand alone watch so leave phone at home, voice is clear to start stop run/walk along with haptics and the half way notification is a nice touch which enables you to finish where you started! Wish it would link with Strava as even through third party apps because it splits between walk/run it cannot be recorded as a solo effort instead it’s about 10 chunks ! Would also like notification reminders on along the lines of “ don’t forget your run tomorrow or today is a day off “
Functionality is frustrating
Design looks nice but it's very annoying if you want audio prompts and music at the same time. I have to disconnect my headphones from my phone and connect them to the watch and then change the music output to the watch as well. Wouldn't have purchased if I knew I had to stumble through that process every time I use it.
Liked it first week…
The app stopped working today mid run- very annoying as I am only in week two. I had to restart it and did half, as u had done half, but now it shows my run as not done. Very annoying. I hope it doesn’t happen again
Great coaching!
This app has been great really taking a coach potato to enjoying running. Today was Run 1 of Week 8. Going from running about 1 minute and a 1/10th of a mile to 28 minutes and 2.01 miles is real success if you ask me! Thanks for the app Ben!
Very unstable App
I have used this app a couple of times now, it used to be great but more recently it is so unstable. For instance my last run (week 7 day three) all went well, I was notified I was halfway by the American voice trying to sound Scottish, and then nothing, no notification of the end of run or warm down. When I got home I took a look at the data on the app and nothing was recorded, it appears to have just shut down mid run. I think I will have to swap apps as I cannot rely on this one anymore.
Decent app
I’ve done the C25K plan a couple of different times, with a different app, but that app doesn’t have a Watch app to go with it so I tried this one. Overall, this is a decent app for someone who is just wanting to increase time and distance, with no concern for monitoring real-time performance. The good: it gives a HR and connects with Apple Health, as advertised. The old app I was using didn’t do either and the workarounds were really clunky. And, after the workout, you can look up the data for each interval (both running and walking). The room for improvement: because I’m used to working out with realtime data (I’m just getting back to running after a hiatus), I find that there’s just not enough useful realtime data. The watch displays HR, calories, distance and average pace (which includes the walking intervals). The average pace isn’t a useful metric. I’d like to see current pace instead. On other possible things to improve is a bit of flexibility in the workout once it gets started. The old app would let me rewind and repeat intervals. I often used to do that in order to extend a workout that had felt too easy. I can’t find a way to do that with this app. I know that’s not the official plan, but sometimes life interrupts plans.
It’s ok but not smart enough
The app itself is ok but when you need to redo the weeks, which absolutely every true bigger will need to do because couch to 5k is poor as a programme, the app does not track this at all and you aren’t sure where you are at. Not the apps fault but couch to 5k is designed by a marketer. Not a fitness expert. The jump from 8 minute intervals to 20 full minutes is just insane. It’s a poor programme for beginners.
New American Voice
I love this app and how well it works with just an Apple Watch, meaning I can leave my iPhone at home on a run. It has been one of the best purchases I have made on the App Store. So imagine my horror when I went to use the app today and the nice inoffensive British sounding voice coach seems to have been replaced with a way less pleasing “way to go” American voice with no apparent way to change it back. Due to this unnecessary change, I am only giving it 3 stars sadly. Give me a way to get the nicer old voice back and I will happily give 5 stars.
Love this app
This app is great. The watch implementation is exactly what I’d want in a C25k running app. I successfully made it through the program thanks to using it!
Fundamentally broken
Installed this on my (reasonably new) Apple watch and went for a run but it a number of issues that make it totally useless. 1. The app wouldn't keep the watch awake so the watch would repeatedly go back to the main time display (unlike the Apple Health workouts which stays on-screen). This means I had to to stop running, press the crown to get the app list, navigate to the app and re-open it (with my nose, it's cold and I have gloves on). 2. When doing this the first few times I got a music control page, this was confusing as I don't play music while running. It took me a while to work out that this was in the watch to 5k app as I've not selected that view myself. 3. The app claimed it would warn at the half-way mark so I could turn round, it didn't, leaving me with a 13 minute walk home (I figured out it hadn't warned me at half-way after a while) in the cold. 4. The app kept stalling at the end of the walking section. There were sometimes pauses of ~one to two minutes where the walking timer stayed at 0 and there didn't seem to be anything I could do to shift it. It eventually recovered each time, but it was significantly disruptive. 5. The developer begging for "tips" after charging for the app is distasteful. This app is fundamentally broken as it stands, I'm going to see if I can get a refund from Apple because it's so bad I won't be using it again.
Works well but wish it included warm up/cool down in map
Overall, I really like this app. The program is easy to follow and works well with my Apple Watch. My one complaint is I wish it included the warm-up and cool down in the map and total distance at the end. It feels weird sharing the map with stats when it doesn’t include the extra 10 minutes of exercise.
Works well on the watch, but doesn’t show information needed during a run.
Whilst running, the information on the watch face includes “avg. pace” which is nice to have, but isn’t helpful when trying to pace yourself. You cannot change this. The avg pace is, of course, an average - so it calculates using running and walking pace. It would be nice to see current pace to help maintain a desired speed. The other info it shows, during the run, is “calories”, this isn’t helpful information especially during the run!
Not worth the money
This app doesn't take advantage of the detailed tracking apple watch provides. Although it saves your workouts in the fitness app, it only has really basic stats. No cadence, no heartrate zones. The UI is slightly clunky too.
Love the app
I’m on week 14 of the 10k expansion package. It has been perfect for me. I hope they will introduce longer programs.
Terrible
This is by far the worst running app I have tried. Don’t waste your money.
Great app (facing audio issue)
Been using the app for a couple of weeks but since my first run. The audio prompts to say “start running” and “slow down to a walk” haven’t worked since the first run. It still vibrates the watch but no sound comes through, whereas before it would turn the music down and say for example “Start running”. Apart from that easy to use and well designed app
Doesn’t output to Strava
We all know if it’s not on Strava, it didn’t happen. This app will not output to Strava, which is frustrating and makes the app very redundant for those who like to look at their stats and see if there are improvements.
Now it’s crashing
Started great in week one. Now it’s not promoting runs and walks unless i manually pause and resume. If this continues the star rating will drop further- shame. It was brilliant to start with
Great app, easy interface, lots of data
I’ve tried several of these watch – based running apps and this one is by far the easiest to start up and actually follow. I start Pandora in the background, start Watch to 5k and away I go. I look forward to the different runs and reviewing the data once I get back in cool down. Seeing the different splits for the different intervals is very nice. It’s interesting to see how running segments of the same time produce shorter or longer distances and higher or lower heart rates based on going uphill or going downhill!
Very Disappointing
After a long break from running, I was excited to try this out given the positive reviews. Unfortunately there were egregious bugs during my first run. 1. The walk and run timers consistently freeze at zero for minutes at a time. 2. A voice announcing when it’s time to transition between running/walking was advertised. I listened but heard nothing, though there was a faint, easy to miss vibration. I had to stare at my watch the entire time (even more frustrating given the timer was usually stuck!) I’m a software engineer and I’m usually understanding of bugs, but how do you mess up a timer this badly, especially when it’s the core feature of your app? Is there just no QA happening whatsoever? Rival apps like “Just Run” are free and just *work*. I’m on the latest version on the latest iOS edition. At best this is a new bug that will be patched, given the other positive reviews that are presumably real, but I want a refund.
Great app. Delayed switching.
I love the app. I love not needing my phone. My only note for improvement is that there is a delay between the walks/runs on occasion for me which can be frustrating when time is an issue.
App
I would like a verbal prompt
Not quite what o wanted.
Tried the app as I liked the option of choosing my own music rather than using the fixed music on the NHS couch to 5k podcast episodes. Instructions were very robotic and not very inspiring. Also couldn’t figure how to get my data into Strava so without that it wasn’t the right fit. Sure it will be great for some.
The motivation you need!
Just enough to get you started running without all the off-putting complexity found in hard core runner apps - and no stupid subscription! The app gently increases the amount of running you will do each week so you're not overwhelmed and you can always repeat runs (or entire weeks) if you don't quite feel ready for the next step. Goals are celebrated regularly for encouragement. Even my spouse, who swore they'd never be a runner, has started using it and they're making great progress. Bottom line, the app is simple but it really works!
Can’t install on kid’s Apple watch
I would love to use this but have spent countless hours and can’t get it onto my child’s watch. This makes it pretty useless and a waste of money. Probably an Apple issue more than an app issue but I hope Apple can make it easier to set up devises for children without making them have their own phones.
Great way to start running
The simplicity of this app makes it a great way to start running without distractions of something overly complicated. -1 star because it only shows calories and there doesn’t appear to be a way to switch to Kj or follow my Apple Health/Fitness preferred energy display setting.
v unreliable
I find that the notifications to tell me to walk or run don’t always come through on time. typically I have to raise my wrist to open the display, otherwise, I don’t get a notification at all. and thereafter it goes bonkers and tells you finishing up in 321 while the display still has 44 seconds left and then congratulates you at the end of 44s. it’s a good idea for an app but it just doesn’t work in. practice. i am in apple watch series 6 maybe it works better on newer devices.
Doesn’t work with Apple workouts
For any workout I do, I need to use the native Apple workout app at the same time as another workout app (for collecting points on my health insurance that only accepts native Apple workouts). This works fine with other apps I’ve used like Strava, etc. While this app worked fine stand alone and I like being able to go out without the phone, it seemed to stop my Apple workout as soon as I started the C25K workout. Unfortunately that means it isn’t going to work for me. Good app otherwise though.
This is a great app!!
This is just after I finished my first run and it was very nice!! I like that it shows you your root and time per kilometer too!! I can’t wait to finish this and help improve my speed and reduce my asthma too!! Thank you so much!! Huge tip donated!!!
Crashed after 12 minutes
Started out well (set was easy), then around 12 minutes in just stopped, and lost the data! 1 and out!
Good app
I love the app but have major issues trying to get the voice to overlay my music have managed once , if this was easier then 5 stars
App crashes constantly
The app does not communicate with Spotify well. The guide does not give you the instructions so you need to press start so that it moves to the next instruction everytime.
1st run
Great so far - wished It would tell me when to run and walk rather than just vibrate? Also did not show distance, pace or calories burnt? Do I miss something in my setting?
Fantastic App for Beginners
I’ve loved this app! I used this for my first 5k not using it for my first 10 k training!!!
No Audio, No Feedback
Highly disappointed in this app. There’s no audio. It seems you need to connect directly to the watch. WARNING: Does not work with audio played from phone! This is very poor design choice. The haptics are also very very subtle. I can’t even feel them when running. The app is basically worthless. Waste of time and money.
Miss the motivational speak
I’ve previously used the NHS app which was fantastic as is this app. The only thing I really miss is the NHS app gave you some motivational chat with telling you to keep going, you’re doing well and what I found really helpful was telling you how long you had left of a specific run which I found really helpful when I was finding it hard or tough going - it stopped me from giving up whereas the silence on this (even though I listen to music) is deafening and constantly makes me look to see how long I have left which can then be quite demoralising, whereas if the interaction was there it would provide me with some form of distraction.
Prompts don’t sync
I can’t get the audio prompts to play in the earphones. I have gone through all of the troubleshooting steps, but it will not function with Apple AirPods Pro. The other apps have no problem playing prompts into earphones
App not working since update
The app on the phone isn’t working since updating earlier this week. Just get a black screen. iphone 13 ios 15.5
An app that lets me disconnect
This app has been a great tool to help me get into running, and I’m especially happy with the ability to track my run while leaving my phone behind. The lack of subscription is a huge plus too; I’m happy to have paid the one-time fee, and I’m happy enough with the app that I hope to be adding on the 10K program before too long.
Very Disappointed
I have had exactly the same experience as another reviewer so I have copied their review, and yes, I have paired my watch to my AirPods using Bluetooth as per the app instructions. Not had a good experience with this app. Thought it was worth a go considering it's a paid app so assumed it would be built better than all the free apps. Also main driver for getting it was the Apple Watch integration. Unfortunately the most important, most basic watch functions don't work. Like most people I listen to music when running, but the spoken 'coach' feedback (cues to start/stop running etc) only play out of the watch speaker. After I FINALLY managed to get them to play through my AirPods, they only play when the music is not! As a result I needed to rely on the haptic feedback, which only happens occasionally, and when it did the vibrations were very, very weak meaning I frequently missed the cause of when to start running.
Great little motivator
Great app. Would give 5 stars if it worked better with music. It can be very temperamental.
Broken
Virtual coach doesn’t work properly if listening to music it’ll only play through my watch which means I can’t actually hear it, virtual coach only works properly if music is turned off
Good app, some limitations, but it gets the job done efficiently
The runs are well spaced out, the program is easy to follow and builds up at a good level. The app itself is easy to use on my watch and great for the haptics/sounds it gives. The only thing I really have an issue with is that when it adds to my Apple daily exercise tracker it only adds the predetermined times. E.g if I pause midway through and have a longer walk break, or have a 5 minute warm up walk first, it doesn’t record these. Yesterday we went for a 40 minute exercise outing, including a warm up walk, a cool down walk, and a break in the middle for me to get my breath back, and the app only recorded the 20 minutes of running/walking that it lays out for us as the program.
Great, simple app!
Love it! Very affordable compared to others. Simple but is all I need!
Would like my money back

Better than other apps
This app is great I like the fact I only pay once and it’s a small fee, but I don’t hear the voice even when my headphones are paired to my watch and my workouts aren’t sent to my Strava account which I dislike. Not sure if this is just me and I’m doing something wrong or what. Thanks I’m advance if there’s a response
App is no data source for Health
Actually, this is a nifty app that works well. However, my understanding of “integrates with Apple Health” was a bit different from the implementation. I would expect that the app can write the data to Health, so Health can write it to other apps, too. Instead the data shows up in Activity only.
