What they complain about
- Puzzles are tiny and hard to use
- Forces portrait mode on large tablets
- App crashes and has buggy navigation
- Login process is confusing and broken
Excellent reportage
I have always enjoyed the independent’s clear and balanced reporting and shal continue to do so
Unusable puzzles
I have subscribed for many years; with the Puzzles section often the deciding factor when considering renewing the subscription. Alas the latest changes render the puzzles unusable on my iPad so I will not bother to renew the subscription this year. I trust whoever commissioned their 14 year old nephew to create such a ridiculous abomination considers it money well spent. Having cancelled my subscription I find I have lost access to the remaining months of my current subscription. They then sent an email offering a reduced rate to re-subscribe. I have deleted the app and am rid of the laughably inept buffoons who seem to be running things these days - or perhaps it’s all down to the AI 🙄
A new format
A long time i reader because it provides unbiased quality reporting. The new format I find less appealing, although the navigation is easy, I preferred just thumbing through the pages and pausing to read items that caught my eye.
Impossible to open I
When I try to continue reading I’m sent around in circles - told I’m already registered but can’t break out of kafkaesque loop!
What have they done to the puzzle page?
Why can you only have the puzzles in portrait form now, I find at my age it is far easier to do them in landscape. If this doesn’t change then I will have to review my subscription and possibly move to another paper. Why do web designers always seem to want to fix something that doesn’t need repairing.
Good quality reporting
The i paper does a great job in highlighting real life and world issues in such a focused way! Good reporting and thoughtful and timely comments. Without bias in many cases!
Subscription cancelled
The new puzzles pages is so bad that I’ve just cancelled my subscription. It was the main reason for my subscribing in the first place but the new iteration is abominable - blocky text, overuse of colour, distracting elements, etc. A puzzle should rely on its content - not be the showcase for some teenage designer’s overblown sense of self importance! Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!
Mr John Pierre
Concise and unbiased reporting
Think twice about restricting sharing of articles
I uploaded good articles on my FB but they CANNOT BE READ, your loss! (More readers and subscribers)
Ipaper online
Great but I didn’t get a World Cup schedule pull out poster
Family favourite
I have been reading the weekend for over a year. I find it’s more concise than the larger papers not as many adverts. And i consider it to be a truthful paper. Doesn’t seem to have much rubbish or exaggerated news in it. Only extra i would add is the family puzzles. There are not any child friendly puzzles on the app. Well for younger children. My grandaughter loves to come on a Saturday just for the puzzles.
New puzzles
Very disappointed with the new puzzle provider, it has to be used in portrait mode, cannot be enlarged and is not easy to navigate. Seriously reconsidering my choice of newspaper subscription
News content is good, but a bit click-baity
The paper itself is great, and the news coverage excellent. I like the impartial stance of the paper which is why I started reading it. I’d prefer a bit less comment and more news. And definitely fewer headlines that are click-bait. On a technical level the app is very robust and works well. In the newspaper layout I’d like to click on an article to read it in a pop up window which would make it easier to read on a smartphone.
Access difficult
I try to log in using my phone. I do the email and the "I'm not a robot". Then you email me a six digit access code to copy into a box. To access this, I have to leave the i Paper... and there is no way to return to the page I was on to fill in the code. Zero points.
Quality journalism that’s affordable
Excellent news coverage from around the world and they don’t mind treading on toes. Compared to the Apple version, 10 times better at less than a fifth of the cost, can’t recommend highly enough.
Puzzles
The new UX is so poor. It wasn’t the best before but it is genuinely unplayable now. Unsubscribing until the UX is restored - in house puzzles doesn’t mean you have to make how it looks worse.. Like we don’t need the coordinates of the clue we’re on… I could go on and name every issue, but it essentially all comes down to just needing to revert every change back.
Good Independent Paper
Very reasonable online paper that is also an excellent price.
Lost independence
No longer balance: too much anti government/ Starmer opinion and few facts. When my subscription runs I will not renew.
Review
Fantastic unbiased journalism that the media in this country so desperately needs
Awful new puzzles section
The new puzzles appear to be designed for a phone and not successfully transferable to an iPad. On the now required portrait orientation the puzzles are crammed near the top, too small and for some reason with different coloured squares. The Sudoko is hard to focus on with the given numbers in black on dark grey squares. The crossword clues are not clearly visible altogether with a messy highlighted clue system. Please go back to what we had which was clean, clear and a pleasure to use.
Current affairs good, but?
Overall content is pretty good but I Follow football and and don’t get elf coverage
Expand view
The content is good, however the reading experience could be improved by the ability to “expand” the view, similar to the Daily Mail app.
Balanced
Only paper to really give a balanced view of politics
Updates that no one asked for
The “puzzles to help you relax” have been changed and they’re just bad.
Slightly slow update cycle, broken links
I came to the i paper when guardian demanded that subscribers sign in, so quite recently. Whenever I open the I app (~ daily), I scan for new articles, and there seems to be precious few. It can’t really be news if it isn’t new. Also “internal links” (links to other I Paper articles don’t work. The app links to localhost:52577, but if you follow it, it throws up a cookie pop-up and contains a paywall. It should really just open that article in the app. (Maybe this has to do with how old the linked-to article is.). I’m a month-by-month subscriber while I evaluate, and jury’s still out.
Beware of cancelling your subscription early
I cancelled my subscription after 2 months because I was getting too many emails. I switched off all notifications etc on the account settings and was still getting them. Beware; if you cancel early you don’t have access till the end of your subscription. It terminates immediately.
Other newspapers are available
But only the iPaper gives concise easy to read politically neutral news
Gets worse daily
I used to love the i. Subscribed to the print edition for years. Now its news content is ok, its journalistic opinion pieces are ok, but then there is endless self-regarding tat. I only kept subscribing to the app for the puzzles, now they have a new provider that is useless, on the iPad. How do I unsubscribe?
Daily but not right day!
Arrives so late as to be useless for news content.
My I
I could be so boring, in fact I probably am, as to us it is just enough to read and even handed.
You have ruined the puzzles
What have you done to my beloved puzzles? They are ruined! Only one clue at a time shown on crosswords. Kakuro format has lost all its structure. Goodness only knows what you have done to my beloved Killer Sudoku - it is unintelligible! And NO LANDSCAPE MODE!!! Why not? I do puzzles on my iPad with its cover as a stand. This does not work in portrait mode. And landscape is efficient - Left hand to tap a square, right to enter the value. Why have you done this? What is wrong with you? If it doesn’t get fixed soon I am going to have to find a new puzzle supplier - and my monthly i subscription will be cancelled.
Honest storytelling
I trust their reporting
Puzzles are disgusting
The new puzzle provider is horrible. It’s really small, the colours used are a gross eyesore, the interface is the opposite of user friendly and it’s completely inaccessible. I can’t comprehend why they’d make these choices other than it being cheaper. I’d rather pay slightly more and have an actual useable app.
Truth reader.
I now seek out your paper, as it is interesting and useful, especially the latest on the history of the Royals problem. I know the other history but it was good to reminded .
Buggy as hell
Really disappointing - I thought I'd trial it to read an article. The app is so buggy there is no way to manage the subscription- I press manage subscription and it goes to the home page. So frustrating.
