Love the LightRing settings
I really enjoy this app, and now I’ve added the light-ring to the WaterRower it’s such a wonderful experience rowing to the lights changing to my preferred stroke per minute. I appreciate the customer service when I needed it too. 👍🏾

Works great as a workout tracker
Update. Since last app update, it just crashes immediately upon starting the “just row”. Help! I really enjoy using the “Just Row” mode. It took a while and some help from waterrower support, but once I understood how it works I found it very useful. I bought a Polar H10 chest monitor and an S4 bluetooth transmitter for my rower and they work very well with an older iPad. Also figured out how to use the Apple watch version of the app and the iPhone which uses wrist HR tracking and is more convenient but has the downside that the watch does not always transmit the measured heart rate to the iPhone.
Set max heart rate
I need to set my max heart rate. I can select Max HR in Configure Heart Rate Zone but after I enter a number, I cannot make the keypad go away. It is covering the save button. Thus, I cannot save.
Mixed feelings
Pairing is genuinely easy — connects quickly to the S4 and to my HRM every time, no dropped connections, no fuss. Once you’re rowing, the stats are excellent: stroke rate, splits, distance, all clean and accurate. Two real gaps. First, there’s no good way to import workout data from other apps back into WaterRower Connect, so if you ever row with a different app for video or classes, your history gets fragmented instead of living in one place. Second, there’s no way to project the app to a TV or larger screen — your only option is buying WaterRower’s own iPad/iPhone mount, which just puts a small screen right on the machine rather than letting you use a big screen you already have. Great hardware, but the app boxes you in.

Strength training doesn’t work
None of the paid sessions or modules work. Only some rowing even after you pay the subscription. It’s not a great app other than rowing stats.
Calorie problems with Hybrid CR monitor
The app reports workout calorie values that are 4-5 times too large. I’m using it with the hybrid water rower which has the CR monitor. The web site says it’s compatible and all other stats are fine. Suspect it’s converting from mechanical to metabolic after the monitor has already done this. A further problem is that it’s forgetting workouts, despite initially exporting them to Apple Health. And no support - neither issue is showing any signs of being addressed.
Premium classes don’t change
The app seems fine for the basics if you want to see stats on your phone instead of the monitor. I was excited to pay for Premium at $5.99 which offered classes. After a month … they never change. It seems like it’s the same 10 classes unless I’m missing something. I couldn’t find a way to ask Support. Hoping I get a response here but not paying for static content.
App stability is worse after latest update
The app was working reliably to track my rowing intervals during the winter. During yesterday’s row the app crashed multiple times. I’m using an iPad Pro 10.5.
App stopped working
I loved the app while it worked. Stopped working after the last update. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling. Still no luck, app just goes black and then disappears without opening up.
Incompatible with SmartRow
I purchased SmartRow and my workouts tracked through Waterrower Connect do not properly save to the cloud, only temporarily to my device. They don’t save to my personal account so aren’t visible across devices, and my workouts no longer sync with Strava. This app used to be reliable, but an update along the way seems to have completely messed up some needed integration details. Devices used: iPhone; iPad.
Good app
Cannot change my max heart rate. Settings, HR Calibration, then when I go to update my max heart rate the number input screen pops up and covers the save button. Hence, cannot save the updated max heart rate.
Unable to Log in
I’ve had my WaterRower for almost two years and initially loved the connect app. I enjoyed the training programs that came with the premium account and the feedback that the app provided. I’m not an Olympic rower so I only need the basics. Unfortunately, I worked abroad for most of last year and had not had access to my home gym for that time. After returning home I was excited to get back at it but upon attempting to login to the app I was met with a never ending loading page. I contacted support and wasn’t given any helpful information. I hope they get this fixed but I’m going to have to move on to another app. but
A bit buggy
On a majority of workouts the power curve shows peculiar readings. There’s often a spike of 1000-2700n. I know I am not pulling that hard. This spike skews the graph when I view my workout history. Other times the power curve reading stops about 75% into my stroke. This also skews the history data.
Subscription stopped work early
My subscription stopped working a month before the paid end. Contacted support, their resolution didn’t fix the issue. So now I’ve paid for something that’s not being provided.
Terrible App for a Great Machine
This app is useless. If you need to pause your workout, if you pause from the monitor, it does not automatically pause the app, which means you need to hit pause in two different places and end up wasting seconds from your tracked time and incorrectly tracked distance. As far as integration with Apple Health, I’ve had quite a few workouts where in the Waterrower app the distance was logged as 11.25km but in Apple Health it was recorded only as 11km. Don’t know why. I don’t bother with it anymore, too much trouble for zero benefits
Good, but could be better
Slick and stylish app which tracks your rowing connecting direct to the machine and HR devices easily. The premium option allows some extra pretty HUDs and access to video based workouts through 3rd parties. My gripe is that although there is some capacity to build custom workouts they are really limited; set time, distance or rate. This is a travesty as it has the best metronome I’ve found but without an option to scale the stroke rate it’s incredibly annoying, having to stop at every step of the ladder/pyramid for example. Makes me question why I paid the extra for the Bluetooth module.
App regularly misreports rowing distance
The app somehow freezes about 500m into a row and doesn’t record the rest of it. Perhaps related to the app being updated, but it gets updated frequently it seems. Really makes all of the integrations less useful when the record of the row is regularly so wrong
Great but no sound
It’s good, but in the scenes there’s no sound. There’s sound in the classes. The scenes are nothing without ambient sound to go with it.
Please make font LARGER
I’m a long-time mainly happy user of the app, but the latest release has very small font for the 4 user-configurable data displays (eg heart rate). These fields are now hard to read on the phone when rowing. Please fix. Thank you ——— And FIXED 3 days later, THANK YOU
No Longer Working!
Ever since OS 18.5 it will not open. You get a splash window and that is all. I called and was told this would be looked into and they did not even ask my name or contact information. That was 2 weeks ago and It is not working. Sure, I could try deleting it and reinstalling it, And Loosing all my history….
Suggestion
Please rename the app to “WaterRower” or “Waterrower”. As you have it, “WATERROWER” is an eyesore looking at the screen
No longer able to log workouts
Used the app to log manual workouts while I evaluated the app and my situation for further integration/connectivity. Can no longer log manual workouts and existing working history cannot be accessed. Will explore other app options now. 1 star for my purposes but gave another star for potential.
Does’t share data with Apple Health
iPad Air 2 iPadOS 15.7.9/iPhone 11 iOS 16.6 - I use the Waterrower app on my iPad to track my progress. The iPad gathers the data from the S4 and then shares it with the Waterrower app on my iPhone. The Waterrower app on my iPhone is set to share it with Apple Health. But I do not see any of the data on Apple Health. I open Apple Health and go to Summary > Active Energy > Data Sources & Access > Waterrower and it is says No Data. All three apps have been updated. I don't have Apple Health on my iPad because it is an older iPad. Not sure where else to inquire so…
Broken again
Downloaded the iPad app, and now neither the iPhone nor the iPad app connect to the CommModule. Deleted both apps and reinstalled, no luck. Literally before adding this iPad app the iPhone app of WaterRower was working and connected to CommModule. Now nothing on either. Will not connect. Utterly irritating. I only recently restarted the WaterRower premium subscription. I will now cancel again. Useless app. Buyer beware. Either the app Bluetooth connection is broken or CommModule (new device) is broken because of trying to connect the iPad app. Very annoyed. Please contact me or fix this app.
Bad bug
I paused and after resuming it stopped counting any strokes despite the monitor continuing to.
Can be liable to crash with lots of old user-data
As per title, using version 2.23.6. May 2024. I was having issues with the app crashing, but deleting the app and then re-installing seems to have fixed it for me.
Still upset with the removal of the widget
I used the widget extensively. Not having it is impacting my motivation and the visibility to my workouts.

These size and visibility of heart rate display needs to be larger for us older folks

Just Terrible
I’ve been using the app since 2021 and it just gets worse. There is no way to view the battery level of the S4 Comm, so expect to have it die mid workout. That is if the app doesn’t just crash, which happens every month or two. I always write notes after my workout and the window never scrolls up enough to see it when the keyboard opens up. I tried the premium subscription features so I could do HR zone training, but my phone screen goes to sleep when I try to use them - this does not happen with the normal workout. This is what happens when the developers for an app have never used the product.
Great and simple…
But I was subscribed to the premium which I was enjoying using Kept taking payment but no longer works. Keeps saying there is a fault for the past 3months and I have attempted deleting the app and reloading but to no avail.
Monitor and App connection is not impressive
I own both a C2 RowErg with PM5 and the WaterRower with the Series IV PM with S4 Comms 33. I am less than satisfied with WaterRower, the App and PM. The Rower is nice and has a great sound and feel, the PM is OK. This is the Nth workout the monitor and app have not connected and basically wasted. I feel like I wasted the money updating the PM to the S4 and Bluetooth upgrade. Half the time they won’t connect, and half the time they do it won’t sync my workout. At least if it would save on the PM it could transfer later like the PM5. If you are looking between getting the C2 RowErg or the WaterRower I would recommend the C2 9 out of 10 times. The one time I wouldn’t is if you just want to row and not log data then the WaterRower is fine. Feeling frustrated.
works for the basics
Easy to set up your own interval or program and row. Although sound is turned on, there are no in program sound effects so you must keep watching the screen to see how many seconds are left on your interval. There is no way to pause your workout.
Why change a good interface
Used the app today and it’s been re designed. Not as good as before when navigating it 😞
Recent Update
The update that occurred within the past month or so, has slowed the transition between pages significantly. In fact, by minutes. So much so, that I have stopped using it. Just terrible. It was fine prior to that.
Update Broke Connectivity
The app provides minimal information but at least it connected to my phone BEFORE the recent update. Now it doesn’t recognize my device and crashes if I try to connect my rower as a new device. Updated Review: The developer fixed the connectivity issue! I am happy with the information the app provides, though I understand if others want something more. But it provides basic workout data and does it well.
Lots of bugs
Had to restart the alpso many times. The connection drops, terrible. I hope it improves cause it used to work fine and one day startwd crashing. And all my os is uldated by the way
Looks Modern
I’m a bit baffled by the redundancy between the S4 and this app. It counts your strokes? That’s what I spent $60 on? I already log my rows manually. The workout record is trapped in the app as far as I can tell. It seems to play nicely with Strava and Apple Health if that’s important to you. You are also blocked from plugging in the cable for “we-row” which apparently has no Bluetooth support. I feel like I’ve been taking crazy pills. WR and hi tech don’t mix. The July 2024 update is abhorrent. The numbers were hard to read while erging, but now with the new font they’re virtually invisible. The new ‘save’ color is completely different. Why? Who’s behind the redesign? It represents major step’s backwards. Criminal even.
Oh Thank you for fixing the problems
Thanks to the developers for fixing the software that it was intended for. In my case I have a Waterrower Club S4 so just being able to keep record of my workouts is great !

Training Programs
Training programs are good/fun but it would be helpful to see what the program is before I start. The screen during the exercise isn’t specific so I don’t know where to be. It would be nice to see the exercise plan/splits before beginning.
Rarely Connects
This app would be 4 stars if it could consistently connect to the BT device. Instead every attempt to connect results in a random and novel mode of not working … searching for a long time then not finding the device, reporting it not found immediately, finding it then crashing, etc. I’ve been budgeting 15 extra min to my workout windows to make this thing connect, and often just give up after wasting the time. This is a big miss for such a great rower, putting time into making this app work would be a smart investment!
The app is nice but doesn’t seem to actually connect with apple health as a standalone
I read reviews of Apple Watch causing rowing to be double counted so I don’t use the watch when I row. I’ve turn on sharing with the apple health app and it’s supposed to integrate the data automatically, but after several days, it has not. I like being able to track my rowing, so I won’t delete the app, but not having it integrate the activity into apple health is a big downside considering it’s supposed to.
Waste of $60 so far
Good news: connects immediately to phone or tablet Bad news: does absolutely nothing, doesn’t connect to display readings, timer or anything. Going to try another 3rd party ap otherwise I’m contacting WaterRower for refund attempt.
Needs work
It’s rudimentary and needs work. Examples, (1) if you set up some custom workouts to save, you can’t later delete or edit them. So if you want to evolve your workout over time, e.g., increase interval times or decrease rest times - you can’t edit an existing workout you have to set up an entirely new one (2) I use this on an iPad Pro 12.9” screen - as big as you can go. But during a workout in say interval mode, the data is impossibly small to read - like ridiculously so given the screen real estate that is not used / blank. Heart rate, strokes per minute - you can’t use them because you can’t read them while rowing (3) the scenic videos are odd because when you row on water you’re going backwards but these videos go forwards as if you’re kayaking not rowing Lots of simple improvements could make this so much better
Simple, but effective
This app just replaces the screen in the A4 and makes it a little easier to see during a workout. The only thing I wish it had was the ability to control Spotify or some music.
Latest update has broken it
This was working fine until the latest update, now it doesn’t record my workout data any more :(
It doesn’t work under iOS15.
Once I upgraded to iOS 15, the app ceased to work. Please go back the previous interface where finding/connecting to bluetooth device comes before exercise selection. Terrible decision the place BT selection at the end!
