What people like
- Really helps couples budget together.
- Easy to see where money goes.
- Worth the yearly price tag.
What they complain about
- Bank connections drop constantly.
- App feels slow and laggy.
- Support is unhelpful and useless.
- Hard to learn at first.
One of the better apps I’ve tried
Great for keeping track of where money is going and staying on budget. I especially like that it keeps track on non monthly expenses. I purchased a subscription, but if I want some of the newer features I have to pay extra on top of that. Could use a nicer looking interface. Overall pretty good app.
Data Loss
This company is clearly astro-turfing these reviews. Apple, do something about this. Tried the paid plan for nine months. Data was literally lost. Duplicate record imports. Regular account disconnections. Right now I’m stuck in a captcha loop and can’t even access my account. Support is useless. Don’t believe the fake reviews. Stay away. And, Apple, do something here to protect your customers!!!!!
Great!
I love this app. It has opened my eyes COMPLETELY to my financial situation and where I can improve. The only issue is my bank is strictly Canadian, so there are delays in connection -> delays in transactions updating. But not the end of the world. Great app
refresh
refresh sucks
It has good sides, but…
I feel like I need an onboarding with this app. There are so many things I can and can’t do. And the initial setup instruction is great, but there are so many things I don’t understand how to set up or get to work for me. My biggest help is notifying me in advance of upcoming bills. Well, it tracks some monthly bills but not others. And I can’t get it to track bills that aren’t the same amount every month, like power or water. It would be nice to find an in-depth tutorial on all of the aspects of the app now that I’m familiar with the basics. For reference, I’m not an accountant by any means, but I’ve been doing my own budget for 25+ years. I know how finances work. I just need to know how to make this app work for me.
Worth it
It’s only 100 dollars a year and I’ve already saved 1000 dollars a month after seeing where my money’s been going
Doesn’t work
No transaction show up.
Reporting
I does a very poor job with producing tabular reports, the graphics are pretty, but not very useful for analysis., Most programs have a variety of reports tracking sounding, by group, and categories by month, or spending versus budget in similar fashion. Otherwise program is great and easy to use.
App is slow
I'm not sure what changed over the past few months, but this app is so slow now. Opening different menus, reports, changing categories, etc. happens so slowly with no feedback anything is happening. So the worst part is you tap a transaction, for instance, nothing happens, no loading symbol, no feedback of any kind. So you think your phone just didnt register your touch maybe? So you go to tap the same thing, still nothing, tap tap tap. EVENTUALLY it will load, but all those other taps you did? Those were all queued, so once the app finally decides to open the thing you wanted, it also opens up 10+ duplicates of the same thing, which you have to close manually. The slow loading is already a massive annoyance that didnt used to be a thing for the last 3 years I've been using this app, but the experience around it with no feedback, and then flooding you with the same page repeatedly after not responding, is making me want to find a new finance app if the developers can't fix it. It's been happening for the last 6 months or so probably.
Easiest budgeting app yet
Just works, which is high praise. Except that my wife and I have not been able to make her membership work with the Monarch account I started and that’s a big problem for family use.
Amazing app
Before this app, I was so frustrated and worn down on budgeting. One night I stayed up researching apps that were out there. This one immediately caught my attention. After so many apps not meeting my needs, I was hesitant but then thought, “what’s the worse I can lose in a 7 day free trial,?” I’m so glad I took a chance. This app meets all my needs and is simply amazing!! I have been telling all my friends and family about it!!
Paywall
$15 a month to even use the app. Wish this was more transparent. It’s also unclear whether your partner would also need to pay this $15 fee (which would be absurd)
Functional
This tracks everything you need and the best part is the account sharing. The UX is not quite there yet, it could use some customization work like moving things around and more themes, but all the functionality is much appreciated. I think the budget part is a little confusing how to set up at the beginning.
No Multi currency Support
I purchased this app, and realized that it doesn’t have support for USD, EUR, GBP, etc account. It just adds them up as if 1 CAD = 1 EUR. This is critical if you or are travelling and using something bank accounts with different currencies. I’ll change my review to 5 stars when this critical feature is implemented.
Subpar
It’s very inconsistent about how it shows updates. For example, it will tell me that the transactions are updated for an account, but in a different view, it tells me the account is disconnected. Then when I reconnect the account, the net worth jumps up in a spike instead of spreading out over the time that it was disconnected. This is the fourth or fifth issue I’ve had with this app in the year. I’ve had it. I’m looking for other options that offer greater value for the price.
Everything we were missing
Update 1 year late: We still love it. They continue to tweak and improve and provide great new features to make everyday budgeting and long term planning better! Original: We’d skipped from Mint to NerdWallet and looked at countless others searching for an app that would allow us to view and manage all of our finances in one place - and allow us to budget. This is the first app we’ve found that gives us all that and the kitchen sink. The interface is incredible to use, the customization elements are deliberate, functional, and exactly what we needed. This is definitely worth every penny.
Budget usability issue in last update
Last update removed the ability click on budget category and see transactions. It only shows the totals and have to sift through transactions to find them. Huge usability issue!
Review
9/10 app, only issue is that I need to reconnect my accounts every week
Allow Users to Create Custom Goal Types
I would like the opportunity to create my own goal types. I can't honestly place goals like “Home Renovations” or “Art/Entertainment” under the current options. “Joy” would be useful. These are meaningful parts of financial planning too.
Customizing goal contributions
I love this app, but the update does not allow customizing goal contributions month-to-month, which is a huge issue for someone whose income varies seasonally. I like to budget out about 6 months at a time and would really like to customize a given month’s individual contribution again.
It great
Easy to see
Connection issues that don’t get fixed
Our bank has a known connection issue with all 3 connection platforms. It’s been a month and still broken. It makes the app worthless.
Can we have API Access?
Not having API access is my only issue. Let me use my data! Overall, I do love the app.
Editing multiple transactions
It’s good except why is there no option to edit multiple transactions from debit to credit and vice versa???
Great other than connexion issues
Love the app, it really helped us make a budget and stick to it. Our main issue is that my partner’s bank does lot work well with the connexion partners and it disconnects every day, and now doesn’t even want to connect at all. Not entirely the app’s fault obviously, but diversifying connexion partners and maybe reaching out to banks to be approved as a third party service would help
Fantastic Budgeting and Finance App
A great finance and budgeting app that looks clean, easy to use and navigate, and focuses on exactly what it advertises. Great functionality and different options to view everything related to your finances. One of those apps where you are happy to pay for because it provides a great service for the price. I tried a few different ones and nothing matches the simplicity and functionality of Monarch.
Poor service and sync
I thought this was a good replacement for Mont for my money tracking. Spent the next year chasing down over charged service and help tickets. These guys are idiots. Use Origin, so much better and no issues.
Fix
Fix cash app issues and you have my sub and 5star rating
If in Canada, don’t buy subcription
This app could be the greatest. In fact, when it works, it’s awesome! But if you live in Canada, the system doesn’t sync well with the banks. It makes you reconnect every day or so and glitches when syncing transactions. Don’t bother paying for the yearly subscription if you are in Canada, you’d be paying for a feature that doesn’t work unfortunately.
After recent app update it’s slow
After the recent app update the responses are slow and laggy. Very annoying. Going to try and just build my own with Claude code.
Amazing
To put it simple It has everything you need for budgeting worth the money
Sorry Canada
Not compatible for me in Canada banking.
Very good
Very good app but would like to connected Amazon Canada to it. Hopefully they improve it for Canada.
Dose not work (Canada)
The app never syncs you have reconnect 100x It’s not worth the money. I use several banks and nothing connects properly.
Not Bad
It’s really good but when the feeds drop out sometimes and you can’t get them back without starting a whole new feed and merging them it gets annoying. I lost all my hard work a couple months ago
BRING BACK THE MCP!!
Amazing app, had an incredible MCP that got “blocked by partners”… bring it back!! We want our data freeeeeeeedoommmmmmm
Not worth it
Paid for a year long subscription, wasn’t able to connect my credit card to the account. Not a user error considering the connection between monarch and the cc holder never connected even after logging in through monarch. You shouldn’t charge people for a year long subscription that doesn’t even perform the basic task of what your product is built for.
Great app. Wish for better syncing
The sync is not the best. Wish I could do reports from mobile app. Maybe they added it but hard to find
Not great
It doesn’t update my bank account accounts. It’ll sometimes say last updated 23 hours ago so it doesn’t take in the new transactions. I have to remove my old account and then re-entered it which is annoying because they ask you to authenticate every few days anyway I also don’t find it to be very user-friendly
Can’t manage what you don’t measure
Has helped my wife and I align on goals and spending.
Not better than the free apps
I didn’t find it more useful than the free apps during the free trial.
Very useful
4 stars because I love the app but the bank connections don’t work really well
Not flexible enough
I have subscriptions that are every 2 months. Can’t set that up. Recurring payments must be from their list of merchants. Which doesn’t even have a big company like Apple. So I can’t budget my apple subscriptions. Liked the app until I tried to set up a budget but can’t Include most of my automatic withdrawals.
Best budgeting app ever
Seriously, it makes it so easy.
Connectivity problems make this app useless
The amount of times that I would have to reconnect my accounts or that it would randomly not allow me to connect an account for weeks at a time was countless. I’ll just use my banking app instead of paying for a product that doesn’t work.
Best App (if the connection works)
It’s hard to justify paying a membership for an application they rely on for your budgeting when suddenly the connection to your financial institution stops working sometimes for 4 to 6 months without any justification. If maintaining the connection service up is not within your control, you can’t possibly justify selling it to a customer.
