something happened with the new update?
love Chirp, but the app doesn’t allow the use of the slider to fast forward anymore with the last update. also would be great to not go many layers just to get to bookmarks or chapters list.
Was better - but still good!
I absolutely love Chirp! Inexpensive books, FREE books! This latest update is frustrating tho. The app lags for 30 seconds or so and freezes up. There is also no way to sort books by “in progress”, which I use a LOT. Please bring back this feature. I also dislike not having bookmarks available from the playing page. It’s counterintuitive to go back to the main page in order to access the bookmarks.

The good: Listening is a breeze, and prices are comparable or less than the competition (without the subscription fees!) The bad: As your collection grows, the app takes forever to load your library and often completely freezes. It could also use more reliability in its search categories (often, typed searches show no results for books you own)
Great books to listen to, reasonably priced.
This sight has books to listen to that you can keep and listen to later. They are reasonably priced, and sometimes freebies and bundles discounted. You can put books you want on your wish list, and they will contact you when they are on sale. You won’t regret this app!!
Bad user interface
Why have you screwed up the user interface so badly? It’s now all marketing, and examining my libraries is torture. I can’t choose what to download when I want to, and the app works very badly on my phone. Please fix this.
No subscription!
I love that I don’t need a subscription for audiobooks. There are lots of choices and wonderful sales. This is not for people who only read current best sellers (use Libby or Hoopla for those) but great for series, classics and thousands of other books. My only issue is that often times the app seizes or crashes.
Kills my phone battery fast!
I love the books that I get from chirp and their great prices. Listening to books is another thing. My phone battery goes down fast! It doesn’t ever do that without chirp running, but with the app playing a book my phone gets hot, and it runs out the battery.
Meh.
I would do more with your app if it actually behaved correctly, and provided user controls that actually worked, with Bluetooth connections.
Best reading app
Greatly deals on audio books. Don’t miss those special flash sales where must have books are 70 to 80 percent off. So glad I found this app.

Stop changing things!
For the all love of all that is holy quit changing things!!! now I can’t filter out read versus unread. I can’t archive anymore. You still have that stupid banner of how many weeks I’ve been listening to books, I really don’t care! Quit filling up the page with senseless information. And make the tools that you have actually work.

Can’t recommend highly enough
This is a great and inexpensive competitor to Audible. Chirp’s app works reliably. The audio quality is top notch. And the library available is, though not ALL encompassing, quite extensive. I just wish there was a “do not suggest” label for some of those authors I abhor.
Makes my phone very hot
In the last two weeks, something has happened to the Chirp app when I run it. My phone gets very hot and my battery dies quickly. Please address this problem.
Great App
Love this for getting audiobooks on sale, but have two things that make me give one less than five stars: 1/ I wish that Genre was part of the library listing AND that it could be part of the search function. I read virtually all types of genres, but cannot tell in my large library what is what (for when I want to read a certain type). 2/ Since I have a large library, the app is rather slow at loading.

I really like the prices on these audiobooks, but I'm extremely frustrated in that it doesn't give me a way to select a chapter or a track to backtrack towards. Which really kind of stinks if you fall asleep listening to a book, and then you have to try and figure out where to go back to.

OMG YESSSS!!!
I LOVE CHIRP!!No other way to say it. This app allows me to keep reading books I want to read for only a few bucks so I get that online shopping fix I always need and I don’t drain my pockets!! Plus I reading what I want not merely what’s available to me. Oh, one last thing, Freebie Fridays are my thing for sure they have books I may not have picked or even found or known snot on my own but there’s ZERO RISK so why not right?, and let me tell You I have enjoyed thoroughly they books they’ve given me so much so that I keep thinking about the characters in them over and over again!! I still have Audible but rarely if ever do I even open the app these days so if You’re on the fence about CHIRP just to the other side where the grass really is more green!!!

It’s a great way to find good audiobooks for a great price. You can wishlist a book and just be patient or you can check out all the sales they have and find something you didn’t know you liked.
Overheating and Battery Drain
I’ve purchased many books through Chirp and love their deals, but lately whenever I use the app it causes my phone to overheat and quickly drains my battery. I’ve restarted my phone, closed all other apps, and changed setting to reduce other background refreshes, so know this app is the issue. This is a serious issue that needs to be fixed. 7/25/26 Update: the app has been updated and the issues above are still happening. Also, the search your library feature often doesn’t work.
Favorite 4 Audiobooks - NO HIDDEN FEES!
No subscription required, you buy the books play them in their app they stay on your device as long as you want them there you can unload them and then reload them at another time without paying again. They have special deals from time to time and if you sign up they’ll send you an email every Friday and let you know certain books are for free # I’ve noticed lately is there’s an awful lot of sorcery/witchcraft/occult type books flooding the freebie Fridays which I don’t appreciate. I don’t know if they realize all that is religious and it’s not countered with any other type of religion option. No free Christian books on Fridays just the occultist Satanic stuff.

Every update seems to make the app WORSE: less efficient, more confusing, and buggy.
Now my newest purchases won’t even download. They’ve been saying “Download Pending” for days. It won’t let me cancel a (supposed) pending download either. It’s not my WiFi and I’ve restarted my phone, which, yes, is regularly and recently updated. I’m sure any comment I get back from customer service will be to delete and reinstall the app (losing all my downloaded audiobooks if I do.) Ugh! With the new update, the app not only didn’t add more functionality, it added unnecessary layers to achieve what used to be done in one place. In addition, the first screen I see when I enter the app is useless to me. I don’t care about my progress or achievements, I just want to listen to my books. Take me to my library. Period. I can’t buy books from the app, so focus on what it’s for: LISTENING TO AUDIOBOOKS. Also, I’ve been asking for a while to be able to reverse/fast forward more than 15 seconds at a time, but still it’s the only option. I’m sure I’m not the only person to have this wish… I don’t need bells and whistles, I just need straightforward access to my library, and the ability to move through a book efficiently (whether by minutes or chapters.) I shouldn’t have to leave two screens to change chapters. I often think the programmers make things less efficient and less effective so they are paid to “fix” the problem.

Books are great, but App is not
I have enjoyed listening to the books I have bought on Chirp. It has good choices on books on your interests. However, I have had many problems with the App which has made the experience of listening to audiobooks less enjoyable.

I love using this app. I can’t read books because I have back issues. So I can listen on my phone. I love that I can listen where ever I am.
Only works on ipad
The app overheats an iphone. I contacted Chirp support & all they said was delete app, restart iphone & reload app. This was done numerous times & still overheated phone & used battery quickly. I contacted Apple. They checked phone, they said they can’t fix the app. They said I was noy the only one with this problem. My ipad has no connection to the internet and it does not overheat when using app. I suspect Chirp is checking your location for DRM purposes when using app on phone & doing this a lot. & I did not enable this on my phone.
Chirp is Great But App Could Be Better
I like Chirp, and they do offer some good deals on certain audiobooks. However, the biggest feature missing from the app is the ability to search for available audiobooks and play previews. Chirp could be made similar to the Google Play Books app which has both the search and play previews. You can still leave the purchase of audiobooks to be via the website, and hence avoiding the Apple 30% charge for allowing purchase inside the app. Unless, I’m missing something? Thanks
Great deals, but app losing spot
I love the deals and I really like the UI/UX of the app, it one of the most important things for an audiobook is being able to pick up where you left off. This app consistently loses the spot. I come back to the app, hit play, and I’m back at the beginning of the track/chapter. I’ve needed to start adding bookmarks so I can actually pick up where I left off

Not an app
This is not an app it just takes you to their website and you have to pay with a credit card that they keep on file. Not gonna give them my credit card info. Would prefer an App that accepts Apple account payments.
New user
I heard about Chirp through a Facebook group, the selection of books is smaller than my other platform. I receive a daily email with books on sale. The app is simple to use.
Doesn’t always save your progress
I have no issues with the audio quality, and I love the chance to get discounted audiobooks but multiple times it’s forgotten my progress and just starts me over from the beginning.

Great app … please add Collections!
This app is great. It’s very reliable and multi-device syncing is really solid. Never have to worry about books playing from the wrong spot. The interface is nice and clean (sad that Apple forces us to buy books from the website, but I understand that Chirp is limited by what Apple allows in trying to create their monopoly). Please add collections to the mobile app, it’s really hard to find books when you have multiple kids listening to multiple things). We want to have lists for each kid and one for me and one for the whole family so we can organize. Right now it’s a jumbled mess and we have to keep book lists in a separate place outside the app. The website allows collections but without having them available in the app I’m not sure what purpose they serve.
