Cuz it’s a Jungle out there…
This place is a Flippin zoo! And I mean that with all due respect! I go there every day and walk a few laps and I see something new around every corner. (Whatever you do, don’t come early that’s when I go)
Map sucks
Map appears to be missing large chunks of the park. Also can’t set North
Very good app
Very good app but need to provide additional information like take the elevator when showing the path will be very helpful. Example we started from the entrance was planning to go to panda ridge. Small paper signs are there near the elevator but in app it shows like straight line when we were on the top of the bridge in San Diego zoo. It took some time for us to figure out the way. Same we encountered when we visited San Diego zoo safari in escondido.
App won’t put ticket in wallet
I’ve tried many times and even tried to email for help, but there is a defect in being able to scan your QR code in order to put it in the digital wallet.
Get a map
The map does not function properly which is what I mostly used it for. It’d have you going in a direction that wasn’t Correct or it wouldn’t load with your current location. Better to just get a paper map. But other than that great app.

Worst Map Ever
Worst app I have used in a long time. The day plan doesn’t group anything near each other and the apps directions are horrible to be nice. Ruined the visit. Don’t think I’ll be going back for a long time if ever.
Easy navigation just one flaw
App is great but I wish that the guest coupons would be attached instead of having to have the physical copies. if they can be sent in an email, they can be put in the app. Sea world does it no problem in their app. Also, there’s a deals section that never has deals.
Wasted Potential
The app looks nice but falls flat on its face with the lack of fundamental functionality. The map should be an interactive centerpiece, but it’s more like an afterthought! Why people are rating the zoo instead of the zoo’s crummy app, I don’t know. The zoo is 5 stars; the app is 2. Don’t get it twisted.
Good but……
Good features but, walking directions need to include sky tram, and kangaroo bus options. Listings for wildlife need to have common names for easy to find, it is not. If animal is searched and is not at the zoo, platypus, indicate that it’s not at zoo and just not under another name. On walking routes buildings should be named so you’re not just guessing on which way to start walking. When creating an itinerary for the day please suggest a route that goes from one animal/event to the next, it felt like I was doing something wrong. You could also have multiple suggested routes that would be a one day or two day visit.
Ramos family trip
We took our 2 year old granddaughter and had a blast! Staff so friendly. We will be back!
Worst experience
If I could give it 0 I would. This app made our visits to both the zoo and the safari park a total nightmare. From the very beginning it was a problem., at the entrance the attendant didn’t know what to do to let me in and my two guests, he kept asking for guest passes as if I should have a hard copy or they were expecting me to show what level of membership I have, since the digital card didn’t show that and they didn’t know what to do. It was the same for everything else. Food, tram, anything I wanted to purchase not a single person knew what level my membership was and they wouldn’t honor any discount, they all gave me the same excuse I don’t know what color your membership is so I can’t give you a discount. I went ti to main entrance to talk to someone hopping to get an answer and solution to not experience this again. They did nothing all they said was to use my plastic card and that the app is new. Maybe before they offer it to patrons train your staff on it and how it works. You lost $2500 a year from me. Staff is grossly untrained and rude.
Don’t enable notifications
The Sam Diego Zoo is world class, of course, and the app was helpful for navigating the park. I enabled notifications on the app to receive “important updates” or something like that. However, the only notification I received during my visit was a pitch to sign up for some credit card. Annoying.
Confusing
I love the zoo! But the map in the app doesn’t make sense and changes paths. It was confusing to figure out how to get around.

Help! Can’t add new membership!
After purchasing a different annual membership this year for two members of my family, every time I try to load the new membership into the wallet of the app, it keeps coming up as the previously expired membership. I’ve tried it about 20 times and even deleted and reinstalled the app, but it still shows up in my wallet grayed out as expired.
Fun day at a beautiful zoo
My wife and I visited the San Diego zoo today. We had a great time and saw a lot a beautiful animals, including many that we’ve never seen at other zoos. In addition to the great animals I also liked that they provide free bus transportation within the zoo including one bus that stops at many of the popular habitats to view the animals inside. My only disappointment was the fact that I could not follow the map. I often got to a point on the map (they have numbers) but I could not figure out which path I needed to take to get where I wanted to go. The app was a little better because it can always tell you where you are but still I often could not figure out my next move. I couldn’t find a “north” or “top” button on the app so if the map spun around I couldn’t tell if I needed to go ahead or backward. In all we just walked around until we found what we wanted to see but I wish we could have followed the map better.
Needs step by step directions
The map is only a blue dot that makes it confusing for directions. It would be better if there were step by step directions.
Customer service
My family and I are very happy with the staff — everyone was very kind. From the person at the entrance, to the shops and the restaurant, all the way through the end of our visit. They made our day truly enjoyable! 😊
Utterly useless app
I’m glad I took a map because the app is utterly useless. I hoped it could tell me about the animal I was closest to but instead just showed a dot on a outline of the park with no information, no walkways, no details, no hyperlinks
The app is great!
The app was very useful and useable. I think it could be better particularly if it used descriptors/landmarks for walking directions, especially in the larger tangle of trails by the Scripps aviary, where it’s hard to tell if you’re following the correct path just from the map.
Cell service is patchy
App would be great if it would fully load. Many times we tried to look something up while at the zoo it would fail to completely load. Worked great from home, but will probably grab a paper map the next time we visit.
Zoo walk
Nice walk. Went to get some exercise and release som tension from a hard days work... It worked! Also was enamored with peccaries settling down for the evening. I've never witness them huddling in a group like that...so sweet! An afternoon walk at the zoo has always been so rewarding! Kurt
Possibly the worst app I’ve ever used
Doesn’t show you direction, doesn’t match paper map, if you want to find a restroom you have to change your view from animals to restrooms, no search feature for guide posts and difficult to find without zooming in very close on the virtual map. I have never in my life experienced an app that was so useless. It’s a shame as it is a world class zoo. obviously somebody’s idiot cousin or brother (or sister )was hired to write this app
Good app
Overall good wayfinding app but I don’t appreciate the notification advertisement I received for one of their corporate partners. I had seen the ad as it was when I was walking around in the zoo which should be enough. I gave permission for the app to give me notifications about the park, not advertisements for their corporate partners. We get enough advertising shoved in our face during the day. I don’t need MORE advertising.
Hard to follow path
Hard to follow the path to things you search for as the map isn’t labeled and the path sometimes doesn’t update if the trees are too thick

Get a paper map unless you like getting lost
This app is ok if you just use it as a map. However, do NOT trust it to give you any decent walking directions to anywhere, especially if you have a homicidal, overly-tired toddler with you. You will end up in the aviary with your toddler screaming like the birds are pecking their eyes out, while the app tries to show you that you are in the middle of some random wooded area with grizzly bears. You will get to the bottom of an Everest-type of mountain range, only to be told that the only way out of this animal maze akin to Labyrinth is to turn the opposite direction and head away from the actual exit, take an elevator (yes, there are elevators in the Labyrinth) up 4 stories and start all over again from Alberts. This app will cause your parents to disown you while you consider emancipation because everyone hates everyone when this app tells you you’re right when you’re clearly so very, very wrong.
App needs improvement.
Map is completely missing some animal pens. There are missing labels for pens that are there. Some pens have labels that don’t match what’s actually in them. Map a hould have a functionality where you can drop a pin on the map and have it trace the path to where you want to go from where you are standing.
We have the best!
It’s always such a nice place to come for a walk.

Accurate and very useful
We went a couple of weeks ago and this app very much helped us organize and enjoy our day so much more than if we were wondering aimlessly. I wish our zoo (Houston) had something similar.
