Perfect app to add to my tool kit
I do real estate photography and this app is so incredibly useful. I love being able to have full control over my camera remotely and see live histograms for my flambient shots to ensure as I get the shot perfect every time. The Developer is quick to update and listen to users.
Broken App
Apl does bot work for A7IV & A7RV
Much better than the update 11 months ago
I gave it one star in my last review because of connection issues it had and then forgot about it, without realizing it got an update. Everything I complained about seemed to been solved and I’m very pleased that I came back to install it again. The only issue remains is the intervalometer not working smoothly- one would need to hit the retry button to continue a session. Thanks, author!
Doesn’t do the one thing it’s supposed to very well
I wish the photos I select on my Sony Alpha a6600 would make it to my iPhone, but it seems to only have a 60% success rate on the transfer
bug?
im a frequent star photographer. last night i went to an area with little to no light pollution, and it took a while to get there. there was no service, of course, and when i went to start taking photos using the intervalometer function (that i have paid for), it said i didnt have it purchased. i didnt have cell at the time so i could not fix it. also instead of intervalometer, it was saying timelapse? it was very frustrating because i usually take upwards of 300 photos to stack, but had to do it manually and didnt have that amount of patience. im just confused on why this happened. otherwise ver good app and works well most of the time.

Great start
I do like this app for my, workhorse, Sony a6300. I’m an architecture photographer and sometimes I need bracket shooting. I can’t seem to adjust the camera settings and get the app to show the shooting adjustment. Please add this feature. It would make this app great.
Not performant
Connects fine, settings cannot be modified from the phone, significant delay between pressing shutter button and image capture
Works ok except for this crucial item...
I downloaded the free version of this app a long time ago and only used it a few times but it seemed decent. Then last week I needed to do some product shots so I set everything up and connected Camrote via bluetooth, took a bunch of pictures and all seemed fine until I noticed the images were all JPEG instead of RAW which is what the camera is always set on. Thinking that maybe RAW was only available with the pro version, I paid the $10 and took a bunch more shots. Both camera and app were definitely set to "RAW" but again, all the photos are JPEGs. I submitted a complaint via the support screen and it's been probably a week and I have not heard anything back. This app is useless to me if I can't take photos in RAW. Very annoying!

Could at least find camera on iphone but when trying to connect would instantly say connection failed. Different older version of app on ipad wouldn’t even find camera

Disconnects too frequently
Have this app on my a6400. Yes it works, but for only a minute or whenever you press the shutter and then it has a chance disconnecting itself. Also sometimes it says connected but the app is basically jammed and you cannot press any button. THIS IS DEADLY TO PHOTOGRAPHY THAT NEEDS TIMING. The instability of the app brings too many uncertainty for anyone who needs to capture an instance; if you are a sports or wildlife photographer, avoid this app.
Unstable Wi-Fi Connection
Multiple attempts at connection lead to repeated drops. After many attempts eventually a stable connection is achieved. Not fun.
Support small business
It’s rare that I pay for in app purchases these days. I’m impressed with this app because all the Fuji and Leicas can transfer effortlessly. But I don’t have the appetite to change my gear. Thank you Simon! Keep it up!

Does the work by connecting to the camera via WiFi. Can adjust ISO, shutter, timer and everything. Takes a sec or two to sync with camera on the changes.
Interface and quality issues
Why do the menus get so buggy for connections? and how come the quality is WAY off when transferred?
Almost a good app
I was happy when the app connected with ease, however aside from the app having a slight delay the start and stop function doesn’t work. I can start recording however I have to use my camera or Bluetooth remote to stop.
cam tote app
I was looking for a mechanical shutter release so I can take birding pics with big zoom lens on tripod without wobble. I accidentally found this app which will do the same thing and more wirelessly from my iPhone SE gen 2. Does everything it says, connected easily, can adjust all the camera settings I routinely use, I really like it. I downloaded the free version but this is so well done. I think I’ll pay so the developer gets reimbursed for the hard and smart programming. I have both a Sony A7iii and Sony A6300. Worked for both.
Doesn’t work with iOS 16.2 and a9
Simply can’t get it to connect. Not sure why. Waste of money…

Wifi communications break frequently. No graceful recovery
More than just a few feet away from Sony A6600's, the communications become unreliable with this app for most Apple mobile hardware with the largest 12.9" iPadPro tablets being the most reliable. The app does not recover gracefully with time counter, remote video, and even remote video start-stop control being randomly and spontaneously lost. If the app and Sony's Wifi-based control were more reliable, then five stars rather than three.
Relief
Ok I could be biased because my a7r ii lcd screen stopped working and this was my work around. Not only did it work, but it added touch focus and time lapse capabilities…the biggest reason I give this app 5 stars is its stacking abilities- I do macro as part of my job and I hand stack with one of my lenses - this app can stack for me and it is SIIIIIICK!
Frustrating
For the life of me I cannot get this app to work… but then again the Sony app is worse.
CANT SAVE MP4 files
I record everything in mp4, but everytime I try to transfer a mp4 to my phone via the app it just saves it as a image with no video, and no is not avchd or whatever it’s MP4 100% like I said in my last review
I wanted this too work
I use my Sony a9 mounted on a long pole and when I am doing this I cannot access the camera. I hoped the solution was to use this app to view my composition and control the shutter. During a 2 hour event I had numerous “lost connection” occurrences and most importantly I was unable to control my a9. There was always lag from when I repositioned my a9 to when I would see the composition on my iPhone 12 Pro screen which made it difficult to use. I had to use a Bluetooth camera remote to trigger the shutter and this app to view the composition because I could not reliably trigger the shutter through this app. I was not able to adjust exposure settings with this app and I could not view the photographs I had taken on my iPhone 12 Pro. In the end I was able to get the shots I wanted but this app did not work nearly as well as I hoped! Overall, for a free app it’s usable, but with very heavy limitations. Is there a more reliable app?
Work in some ways
I bought the Camrote app earlier this summer because I wanted to take time lapse shots of the night sky while on a trip far away from any light pollution. While using the app on the trip, I realized that there is no way to focus my camera on an individual star before starting the time lapse shots, so the pictures came out blurry. If there is a way to do this, I’d like to know how. Otherwise I’d say that this app is only good for time lapses during the day. My camera is a Sony A6000.

Got this to control my Sony A7R
This app won’t find nor connect with camera. Camera says Wi-Fi on. Absolutely nothing. Waste of time

So far able to do everything I have needed to do with my sony a6000 camera. I can easily transfer photos from my camera to my phone over my camera's wifi and I can use the app to remotely control the camera. I just found the app and i am SO excited about it so looking forward into diving into it more. Thank you!!!
Kills audio
Very cool app that allows you to remote trigger video and camera shutter, however when the app was connected, the microphone is cut off, making this app useless. It advised us to update the camera firmware, but it was already on the most recent version. Very disappointing.
GPS Issue
Great program but I bought the GPS add-on and was disappointed to see the coordinates are written to files and not added directly to the image, as the Sony app does.

Much better alternative to sony’s crap app! Image edge mobile is horrible! Camrote is amazingly better, so I purchased the whole bundle to support. Im looking for a focus bracketing/stacking solution so that I can photograph jewelry with my a7rii but the UI for focus stacking is complicated grid? Points? I hit the arrow and it cycles through the grid and then nothing happens? No photo no focus stacked image no multiple images?? Need tutorials to support your features, im dedicated to sticking it out as simon youve made something great and Sony should take a huge hint from you. But I really dont want to have to hack the open memories to get the focusbracket app can you help with a youtube tutorial?
Raw transfer not working
I can’t seem to transfer raw files to my iPhone. It always transfers the jpg version.
Why no bulb mode? Why??
Firstly, thank you for creating this free app, and for taking the time away from your fiancee to do so. The app initially worked easily on my Sony A7 II (Version 4.00) and iPhone 8 (Software Version 13.5.1). I ran into some trouble when trying to use the app (in live-view shooting) for a second time later in the same day. I eventually figured out that I needed to hit "Disconnect" within the settings of the Camrote app (the three horizontal lines near the lower left corner of the screen while using the app) and then hit the name of my camera model to reconnect, and then the app worked again as usual. But before figuring that out, I kept getting a frustrating error message saying that live-view shooting isn't available right now and giving me the option to either retry or cancel, neither of which solves the issue. I nearly gave up on the app at this point, and I can imagine other users getting stonewalled and disillusioned at this point as well. Developer, I would recommend removing this bottleneck and streamlining the process, as the solution in this situation is not clear and obvious. In other matters, my biggest gripe with this app is that bulb mode is unavailable while using the app! I get stonewalled at the 30-second shutter speed and can't go further to Bulb as I normally could when using the camera. Why is this so? In fact, "Bulb Mode" is even grayed out within the app, and there's a note saying that if there's a mechanical switch on the camera for bulb mode, to use that. Well, there's no mechanical switch for bulb mode on the A7 II, which I'm sure you're well aware, given that you own this camera model and developed the app using this camera model, according to information you provided in the app. So why the fool's errand here? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not aware of any Sony camera that has a dedicated mechanical switch for bulb mode - only the dial for shutter speed, which won't extend to Bulb while using your app. So what gives? The main reason I downloaded your app was to use it in lieu of a remote shutter release for taking long-exposure photographs (as in LONGER than 30 seconds). And I imagine this is the intended use for many other downloaders of your app as well. If there's a way for me to use bulb mode on the Camrote app, please let me know!

So frustrating
Absolutely the most frustrating app on the App Store. It disconnects after max 2 shots and then I have to go through the entire process of connecting the app to the camera again.
The photos on phone and camera look different?
I found out that the photos I took using this app looked differently on my phone screen and on the camera. The image looks perfectly good then when I check it on the camera after closing the app, it looks like it was automatically edited (very badly) ! I'm not sure what the problem is. But it did make the focusing on myself super easier when I don't have anyone assisting me. Edit: I found out the photos look fine when I checked on my pc... this is very weird, but I changed the rating cuz of that !
Downloading photos to iPhone 11 does not work

Good but UI locks up
I love being able to control aperture, shutter and tap to focus from the phone and see a live preview. However, the manual controls stop working after I take a picture. Very frustrating and prevents me from really using the app. I also paid for the upgrade so that's also annoying. Using a Sony RX100M3 with firmware 2.0 and smart version 4.3.
Worked, once
The app works immediately with my Sony Alpha camera, and then stops allowing you to transfer images or to operate the shutter, leaving one to peruse the purchased app in frustration. The Camrote developer publishes in-app that *his* gear is comprised of an iPhone 8 and a Sony a7ii, because he’s suggesting donations, over the cost of basic in-app feature unlock purchase. I donated, and only unlocked the ability to change the app icon. The developer’s Twitter support is curt: they simply request the model & version of your camera, and then no more attention once it is provided, leaving little doubt that the details of (entry level) gear, which is similar to “his” purported setup, was sufficient explanation!
Doesn’t work with Sony a6100
I use an IPhone 11 with the app and try it with my Sonya6100. It focus and can change settings like ISO, aperture, velocity but can take a photo. No matter touching the live view or the power button of the IPhone.
Great, but the zoom is very slow
I installed this app and recently connected it to my Sony HDR-CX405 (I think, my memory is bad) It’s a ok app, but the zoom is slow. It’s like my Super 8 camera which had a electric zoom option. And it is very slow.

I would happily buy this if I knew it would work first. Please add a free trial!
Great in theory but with its own set of problems
I downloaded this app really excited to use it as a sort of remote monitor and control for my a7rii, I have noticed however that while after some work and having to connect it through the “PlayMemories App” section in my camera through SSID and PW I can see my screen and fire off pictures, but have no control over any camera settings or functionality in any camera mode. Disappointed as if it it actually controlled my A7RII properly I’d give it perfect reviews!
