Continuous improvement
I started years ago as a C1 desktop user (Mac) and shoot primarily Fujifilm. I’m also a technologist. I adopted the iPad and iPhone apps when they came out. I read the comments and understand the frustrations. It’s easy to argue that the apps shouldn’t have been released when they were but the C1 team clearly learned a lot by doing so and have continuously improved. I’m a huge fan and becoming increasingly satisfied with the app on every platform. Added benefit: It’s nice to be out of the Adobe monopoly stranglehold.
Bafflingly bad
It edits reasonably well once you get the hang of the very awkward interface. The one unforgivable is there simply no way to navigate to any individual album when opening a photo. You get the main photo feed and NOTHING ELSE. so you can end up scrolling through hundreds of photos to find the one you want. Baffling that an industry standard subscription app lacks basic functionality.
Actually not bad, optimization needed.
The app isn’t as bad as everyone makes it out to be its just a different experience then most are used to. What is bad is that selected layers become unselected when you enter and exit the app requiring you to manually reselect without being able to copy over layer parameters. This needs a fix. Because it ruins the functionality.
Come a long way!
This app must have come a long way since some of the other reviews here. Layering was available when I downloaded it and it is superior to light room mobiles in that you can adjust individual colours on each layer. Usability is good despite what others are saying. Maybe it has changed since then. Most of all I am getting better JPEGS from my Sony files than I get with light room mobile. I tried it with a monthly payment so I could cancel, but I think I’m going to keep it and replace light room mobile with this.

Better than Canon Connect
Been so frustrated with the Canon Connect application for tethering to my iPad or iPhone. While the Canon app is free, it would have eventually caused me to smash my equipment out of frustration. I have other editing apps, so I’m not here to complain about what I can’t do on the Capture One mobile app that I can do on my desktop. I just wanted a reliable way to see what I’m shooting on my camera immediately on my iPad or iPhone. I haven’t experienced other similar apps for tethering, so I can’t say this is the best. I can however repeat that this is a better solution than Canon’s.
Was worth it
$5 was acceptable as a somewhat reliable companion to c1pro. $11 is just not going to work… I can’t believe this isn’t a giveaway with a c1pro license. I’ve been a loyal c1pro user since ver 3. Too bad. Tethering competitors are coming up and doing a much better job promoting in social media and I need to take good look at them since resolve is poised to eat c1pro for hybrid shooters. Honestly after all these years my conclusion is that c1pro is best in ecomm studios, forget this app. If they offered a $69 one time price, I’d consider that.
1gb app?
Why is this app 1 gb????? Downloading now, I really hope it’s not another subscription based garbage. I’ll keep you posted. $110/yr or $11 monthly. You can’t even get into The app to see what it does before you commit to the trial and payment. lol hard pass. I’m not signing up for a trial that automatically charges me if i cant test drive the app before I consent to You charging me.
A landscape dream
As a landscape enthusiast photographer, Capture One has proven to be a great travel companion. Photography serves me well as an extension of my contemplative approach to nature. Reviewing, adjusting, and light editing the shot of a day’s adventure on my iPad is a satisfying bonus at the end of the journey. My warmest compliments to Capture One developers.

Like it but it could be better.
I’d like the iPad version of Capture one a lot more if was not a subscription system. I ditched Lightroom in favor of the desktop version of capture one.This means I’m only subscribing and using the iPad version while I’m away from my computer.As soon as I’m back I’ll be canceling the app.I would love to see better image cataloging, mainly the addition of keywords and some recognition of location, places, people etc. Missing a few major tools from the desktop like luminance mask and the refine mask tool which is great on the desktop version.Interface is OK but there’s a few annoyances and clunky UI behavior that could be addressed to make it better.Some examples: crop does not remember last setting so I need to change it for each image.Single tap will hide the UI but it can happen inadvertently when drawing a mask.I don’t like that the edit mask function has it’s own Ui which you need to hit done when finished.I’d prefer if it kept the image editing tools available so I can adjust a mask and tweak it’s impact with the various sliders.Custom presets for looks etc only apply on the base layer rather than on the selected layer.
Not worth its price
Premium price for an app that is not optimized for an iPad. Batch editing takes forever and the for export you have to sacrifice lots of detail just to get a manageable sized file. If you want good detail the jpeg exports are 30 MP plus . I was trying to leave adobe but it’s hard when the alternative is this bad.
Think it’s just not for me
I’ve tried many times to use and enjoy Capture One. First with one of the basic free versions for Fuji that used to exist. Now with a 3 month trial after buying a new camera. Came with a little leaflet. Downloaded the mobile version since I hate sitting at my computer to edit. Tried to edit a RAW, didn’t like the feeling of it. Everything feels…I dunno, slow to catch up? The histogram has this jerky motion to it that always bugged me. It did the same on my laptop. I think I have to admit it’s not the editing app for me, even if it does somehow processes Fuji files better. Don’t think the difference is large enough to switch to a UI I can’t come to enjoy after many years of trying.
On location
Recently, I used the mobile app to shoot to an iPad in a location, allowing me to move around without sticks on the ground, just like light and flexible. It worked perfectly. If you need a quick review software, this is easy, light, and flexible to show clients what you’re doing. Being able to shoot to a card as well as the iPad was perfect. I knew I had a safety net in case anything went wrong. It was really straightforward, and the preview kept up with my 35mb files while I was shooting pretty fast at times, which was great. I think having a little patience goes a long way because the product and how we used it were excellent. Will definitely be using it more on my street location shoots.
Too many bugs to function
Doesn’t work. App doesn’t read raw files, doesn’t tether and is completely useless. Doesn’t work at all. Paid and lost my money, no way to contact them. Impossible scam feeling app. Trash.
Wonderful, but Missing a Critical feature
I’m a full time professional photographer and I’ve been using Lingtroom Creative Cloud for years. I’m sick of Adobe and wanted to try alternatives. This app is awesome because I can try Capture One and only pay a fraction of the cost of the desktop version, rather than having to bite the bullet and pay out the butt for the desktop app before I know if I like it. I actually love this app. For my needs it’s acceptable substitute for Lightroom mobile. But there is one major flaw: I can’t add my watermark. All I can add is a generic text watermark. So… I basically have to edit everything here, export it, import it into Lightroom and then export it again with my watermark. It’s a dealbreaker for me. I understand that since it’s an iPad app I won’t get the full functionality of the desktop app. But adding my watermark isn’t complicated or a luxury feature. It’s a necessity. If I can’t watermark my photos, I can’t share them and if I can’t share them, what’s the point? I really want to make the switch, but this is preventing me from getting the practice I need in order to feel confident enough to move over to the desktop version. Requiring me to use other software to watermark my photos is forcing me back to Lightroom. If this isn’t fixed in the next couple months, I’ll give up on leaving Adobe and cancel my C1 app subscription.
Years Behind the Competition
There are so many things missing that Lightroom Mobile has, yet this is twice the price (at least the monthly subscription). No color grading, no heal/clone, a weird way to have to switch between your mask screen (which doesn’t have mask by color), and other things that LR mobile has. Even the ai retouching is weak compared to others. This is actually slower than LR too. The Capture One desktop app is incredibly good; this is incredibly disappointing. At least I’m only out about $11. Lesson learned.
Rotate Live View
I really wish the app would have a better live view feature. It needs to rotate for portrait mode.
So, so good
I only recently downloaded this, so I didn’t have to put up with a lot of the missing features like others did. But honestly, even with some features still missing (many more recently added like smart masking), I honestly think this is a great standalone option for people who only use an iPad. But when I get started editing on the go and get home, exporting my image with edits to my laptop with airdrop is so easy it’s almost unbelievable. Is the app perfect. No. It’s still a little laggy sometimes (M1 iPad Air) though sometimes smooth as butter. And there are a couple features missing still (I’d love the color balance tool). But honestly this is such a small nitpick I don’t even care. So worth the monthly cost. So much better than Lightroom. Thanks Capture One team!

Good for on the go editing.
I’m trying to change my workflow to iPad only. Been using it for a good year already. It’s been great seeing feature after feature get rolled out. The only thing I miss now is the color uniformity slider and skin color tools.
Great produce - drastic price increases after trial
I used C1 on my iPad for the free trial. I decided to pay for the app and now it’s saying the fee is $10.99 a month!! What happened to $4.99/mo?!
Constantly crashing
Great app for editing photos, especially Fuji raw files. However it is constantly crashing, specifically when trying to crop photos, you need to constantly close the app he restart it every second or 3rd photo you resize.
The app has come a long way
After being out shooting I often prefer transferring the images from my card to Capture One iPad for their initial review and culling. It offers a great start for those images I immediately know I want to develop further. I can checkout the possibilities with that same tools as the desktop. This app has steadily improved since its first release and deserves taking the time to explore its capabilities and ways to speed the developing process. Even after using the cloud transfer to send my latest batch of images to the desktop I'll still go back to the iPad to try out new ideas first.
Blocked behind a paywall
I signed up for free trial but the mobile app wont allow me to login unless I subscribe through the in-app purchase. The restore purchase option is only for in-app iOS subscriptions. I subscribed through the web using a google sign-in but the mobile app doesn’t respond.
Excellent Editor for Fuji Raw Files but….
This is without doubt the best photo editor for Fuji files, they are cleaner and sharper than on any other Editor. The editing tools are excellent, especially with the introduction of Levels and Curves and the ability to import Styles which you may have bought in the Desktop version. You can also save your own edits as Styles which is very useful. However, the one glaring omission is masking. Most other Editing Apps for iPad allow selections to be made for targeted edits but for some reason this is lacking in Capture One. I had hoped this latest release would have included masking along with Levels and Curves, but no. This would be the ‘go to’ App for all Fuji owners if they would introduce masking. Hopefully next time!
Pain iPad version
I use Capture One Mobile all the time for tethering, rock solid for that. But as an editing app touch controls drive me crazy, not intuitive at all. My other use is applying Camera Profile + Lens Correction for my Sony so I can finish editing in Photomator. I wish they offered a classic editing UI, it would make it so much easier. Never use it for editing.
Yes but needs some feature upgrades
Love the aesthetic of the styles etc, some things which it needs 1: Be able to adjust the style opacity as an overall slider. 2: when importing, being able to search through photo folders as they normally appear on iPhone. Do those two and the experience becomes perfect
run-and-gun champ or for travel backup
just wrote a really long review about why I like this app so much. but the app store just ghosted it away. bummer. I’ll write better one later, but here is my summary: This is not a replacement for Capture One Pro on a laptop, it’s a companion app. And it does it’s job really f—- well. Can it be better? Yes. It desperately need the Guides tool, especially for Live View. Keyboard shortcuts for externals keyboards are also needed. But, when you use it right, it crushes. It exports EIPs via Airdrop so smoothly. You can use it for that one location look outside the studio when on a studio job. Or for run-and-gun, or for shooting without a crew, or as backup tool while traveling or for sending a few selects during an event. Try it out for those uses and you’ll be stoked. The color tools, keystone tools, copy and paste, all work really well.
Really trying to like this
App crashes when opening images after I have installed styles carried over from my desktop. Would be great if this could be fixed. Very frustrating to upgrade my C1 plan and can’t use the mobile app on my iPad Pro.

No Skin Tone Tool!?
Without the skin tone tool, this app is no better than any other mobile version of an editor. It’s just another plain Jane editor. You guys have unique tools that stand out from all the rest on a commercial and professional level, and the skin tone tool is one of those epic tools And it’s one of the main reasons why I still use capture one instead of exclusively using Lightroom. Do you guys need to understand that your validity is based on the unique tools that you guys offer and for iPad there’s plenty of power for you guys to be able to add that tool to the iPad version. Allow these professionals to really edit on the go otherwise I’m gonna have to stick with affinity photo.
Not worth paying for
A good start with plenty of potential, unfortunately it’s a paid product which is expensive for what it is. It’s unfortunate that even though I have a paid desktop product we are asked to pay over £4 per month, there is no option to buy at a one off price either. For me it is not worth paying another subscription so I’ve deleted the app.
Awesome App for what it is
Contrary to some of the reviews, I actually love this app and the simplicity of it. I get that it might not have all the fully fledge features of the desktop version but the simplicity on the iPad is amazing to the point where I only use the iPad version. Importing from cameras is dead simple, interface is intuitive and simple. Majority of the features are there (please add spot edits please!) and I can typically import, edit, and export within minutes. For someone who edits family photos, vacations, and the odd job here and there, this app is perfect. Keep up the great work!
I'm not going to give you a 100 bucks to just try your app.
I've never liked this idea that you get somone to pay for something to try, hoping that they forget to cancel, and you get money from them. It gets the company money, but it says a lot about their ethics, not that ethics seem to matter anymore.
C1M vs LR Mobile vs Affinity Photo RAW…
OK .. used 40+ apps and editing programs these last 15 years.. I edit daily on LR Mobile and use Affinity all on my iPAD mini 6. AP Raw is OK as in effect it is free give the price of AP. On a budget and edit rarely it is super. For more volume and serious editing LRM and C1M are almost priced identically. On the face of it LRM has way more bells and whistles than C1M. For my workflow (Olympus M43, travel, architecture and street low light plus Mini 2 drone work) LRM is awesome. I spent the last 2 days testing and found; The ONLY advantage of LRM over C1M is the mask features… they make a huge impact and lack of these in C1M is criminal, especially wasting effort in an iPhone port of C1M instead…! However, in ALL my images - many pre-dawn, night drone and low light street C1M has (even with less sliders than LRM) much cleaner images with retained detail and micro contrast at another level. I was shocked. I have still cancelled my sub to C1M - like so many others - and am so disappointed that Paul Reiffer, other C1 folks and the C1 marketing machine has almost ZERO tutorials or comparisons. This could be a LR killer, but where is the S&M team… Your insular view doesn’t fit with customer and end user expectations or needs. I know I worked in IT and S&M for decades… Here is hoping for some improvement in function, not just feature….All the best
Frustrating to use and no RGB levels
Used the 7-day trial for just a couple of ours. Found the app frustrating to use. Had to restart my camera and/or the app to get it to connect. The overall user experience was quite clunky. Buttons couldn’t be tapped often and the UI was a bit sluggish. Biggest issue was the lack of RGB levels. In searching, I found a year-old thread in C1 forums, but alas, the feature is still not added making this a non-starter for me.
Excellent UI but serious bugs
Impressive UI and the app is generally fast but it has serious bugs that include data loss and having to restore subscription. The app is a solid beta. It requires a bit more love until I can rely on it.
Cut workflow in half. Worth the price tag.
Don’t let negative reviews should be put you off , as this app is not as bad as some may think try for you self. . After much contemplation, I decided to change my workflow to Capture One, and I am glad I did. It surpasses anything I have used before. The app allows for effortless addition of personal style , everything functions smoothly, and it significantly streamlines workflows on photoshoots. No need to carry around a laptop, as Capture One Live offers a great setup that is exactly what it was designed for. And added your style to mobile app So easy. . I am excited to see what new features will be added in the future.
Almost a SCAM, definitely waste of time and money
Basically useless in latest versions, and price tag for modern software is ridicules! Not to mention you’ll only find out which features DON’T WORK after you PAY!
Unable to sign up
I can’t even sign up for an account due to the app blocking the keyboard on an iPad Pro. I can’t enter an email address or password.
Wrong like Donkey Kong for Culling
Pro shooter. Use the desktop app every day when not on location. Was hoping to cull productions on an iPad Pro directly from my SSD. Sessions and renaming are done ahead of time on desktop. Just want to give some stars to established sessions so I can develop the preselects when back in the studio. Unfortunately, this is STILL not possible. Instead of culling directly from an external SSD, C1 mobile requires you to transfer everything to the iPad before you can simply add star ratings. Once you’ve added your stars you get to export everything so that you can work with the files on the desktop. You’re literally expecting your users to create THREE times the amount of files to solve the simple task of adding stars to preselects. Literally no one thinks this is a good idea. What’s wrong with you?!? Other than that the app might be useful for other use cases. It’s just a giant disappointment that you can’t easily do everything within the C1 ecosystem.
Needs custom color profile support
The app looks promising but I can’t use it because custom color profiles cannot be selected (yet?). I rely heavily on my camera color profile for color consistency. I’ll give it another shot later later when/if it’s supported for iPad.
Room for improvement, yes - but I love it.
The potential here is massive - using handheld on my iPad Pro 12.9 the UI is lovely to work with, for simple edits this is perfect & in my view that’s mostly what I’ll use it for. Anything more serious will be done in the desktop app + Photoshop. Shame you have to pay for it if you’re already a desktop user - will probably put people off.
big mistake on my part
After reading reviews was excited to try Capture One but extremely disappointed with experience. Ended up with two different Z7II tethered connections during a 1-day 4 location and different lighting environment shoot. Ended up having to import 352 images. Capture One AI did a very poor improvement to images. When I imported the images into Lightroom Classic the improvements were what I expected. Trying to cancel the trial continues to be difficult and I’m 5 days into the trial. No phone support for billing to talk with a real person. No AI chat support. Just an insert your email to log into account to cancel window when I am already in the mobile app. If I try from web Capture One said it will send email to my mac.com email which hasn’t arrived despite 3 attempts in last hour. Will continue wasting time to cancel. This might all be my user error but my first Mac was a 512k and I started with original IPhone and IPad so maybe it is my issue and maybe not. Hopefully others will not have this experience. Update, found the way to cancel trial in the App. Should have looked at the feedback link in the app dropdown. My bad. The rest of the review stands. Evoto is much better at AI improvements and pricing. I’ll stay with EvotoAI.
Awesome addition
Many photographers have been waiting for an iPad app, and they have delivered, allowing field work on files send to a cloud and then downloading them and finalising on the desktop app. A few tools are missing, but you can clearly see how this software can grow.
Not worth subscription
I like Capture One but having this semi functional app be subscription based is crazy to me. Especially since the workflow to actually get images of the iPad involves either long upload and downright times or this awkward local export process first to the iPad files app and then again to a USB drive. I just can't justify the cost.
Needs a bit more cloud support.
For what is does it works well. But the limit is on the cloud part. I have two computers with Capture One, they are linked by Dropbox, and this works great. I can leave one computer and go to the other and continue where I left off like nothing happened. This app feels like this is the missing bit. I want to be able to grab my iPad and do some basic edits with an ‘almost’ real-time sync to the computer software. It would take an app that is fundamentally okay and make it indispensable. Maybe Capture One needs its own cloud storage solution for peoples CO photo libraries.
