Improved, but not there yet
I was away from this for a year, and some things have improved during that time, but there really needs to be an option to export the games played here to another program/chess site so I can do a detailed review like Gotham chess, chess,com, lichess or something else. There also needs to be an option to limit or remove the feedback from Dr. Wolf during a game. One of the phrases I really can’t stand, is “Things are looking very good for me, indeed”. Don’t goat over the victory to the student. Rather guide the student away from making the error(s) that got them to that point. The training exercises don’t do this. The analysis from the above apps do, and do it very very well. If only I could export the games played here. I thought the old version supported this.
Five stars for sure
I wish the developers would drop some code in to allow us ‘beginners’ to leave ourselves notes. Other than that, it’s spot on.
Why no good must fix it now
He is to hard and keeps talking when I try to focus then he makes me sad then he never moves when it is a draw I press un do and he keeps doing that move so I get more and more draws then he dose not let me win when I am at cheackmate
Good but not the best.
I tried to do the 4 knights Italian opening and no matter how much you rewind and play the same move he never changes his move. He makes it impossible to do that opening.
Training doesn’t explain in detail
Training doesn’t explain fully why a move is bad or good, and when it asks to play a move it doesn’t explain why a move I played was bad , how strong or weak it is , at all. I am on the fence for purchasing it. If training were just a bit more in depth, I would buy in a heartbeat
How bad is Dr. Wolf (Actually, a little more than kind of bad)
I want to complete the task, win with none of the pawns taken.And he keeps taking them, so I have to restart the game almost every every every single time. (And it’s about more than 10 times) (And it’s soooooooooo annoying)

Learning adaptive AI
So I've been playing on this app for over a year I believe. I have it set to a certain level. The game is adjusting far beyond the level almost like it's learning and adapting using AI. I'll get into positions where I'm dominating, and it'll pull some grand master moves to rip the game away. It's making it not fun. If I improve but the game adjusts to my level of play making extremely advanced moves passed the difficulty level I've set, then I'm not learning anything. I can't use strategy and techniques at my level, just for it to pull a Bobby Fisher in two moves. Now this isn't the run of the mill "i'm just not that good". If you want it to be advanced, make that the advanced level. If the gsme is actively use AI to adapt to my level of play without me increasing the difficulty than it's pointless. You can see one played thousands of games. Nearly daily. It's really discouraging when I play a perfect game, leave no holes that a normal person at my level would recognize, just for the game to think 12 moves ahead and run diagnostics to go through 18,000 scenarios to find the one move that works. It's kinda dumb. I've been playing my entire life. As you can see I've won 800 plus games and lost over 2000. I don't mind losing. It's part of learning. But at a point it's getting unrealistically difficult and as I stated going from intermediate to grand master level when I start to win a few times in a row.
Great app for new players or to improve your game
This is a great way to learn the basics of chess and pickup some techniques. For the most part the lessons follow a logical development, but they can get off into the weeds from time to time with too many variations to keep up with in a short lesson. But chess isn't a simple game. One thing missing is more puzzles independent of the lessons. But by the time you are ready for those you will probably already be onto Lichess or Chess.com.

I would like to see more rationales for suggested moves and be able to progress a move or two after training to see the outcome.
Great for beginners
I had no idea how to play chess, but my friends wanted me to learn. I saw this and downloaded it and I literally caught on so quick. The way it teaches you and allows you to learn is amazing. Plus the coach is very friendly which makes you feel good about the stuff you do in the game. I also like how it allows you to undo things and it specifies that it’s here to teach you, not punish you. Kudos to whoever made the app. You guys did an awesome job

Some tweaks but decent
Great game and so far a great way to learn chess, however the AI I think they use is buggy at times, getting pieces wrong, not recognising it’s own ‘best move’ hints etc which is slightly annoying- purely out of a satisfaction standpoint so could use some work there to make the experience more rewarding and feel more put together. The beginner lessons feel quite repetitive but the muscle memory is a good way to get into the practice of thinking strategically about your moves!
Glitch
I received advice on a move that was impossible. It was to give a check with a bishop on a light square whereas the opposing king was on a dark square
Good but..
Great app when you’re first starting out, but the beginner level becomes much harder as you progress. The difficulty ramps up too quickly and eventually feels unplayable for newer players. I enjoyed it at first, but the progression needs to be smoother
First Rate AI engaging and intuitive , training is top shelf
I gotta say the AI or the scripting for Dr. Wolf's persona is first rate , it's really engaging and not repetitive. It drills down on your moves as if it's thinking with you and that's hard to create. It responds uniquely to every kind of scenario I've seen so far. This is my first five star review for any app!

Great app, leaves me craving more depth
Lovely visuals, audio and great coaching during games. I would love it if during training the feedback provided more depth, often times it will just state “A mistake”. It would be really useful to be able to expand why it was a mistake or even watch the next few moves play out.
Not really worth it
You don’t learn much that’s truly helpful unless you pay for it, I understand the need to make money however there should be more to often when playing for free such as being able to review and learn from your mistakes
Great Teaching App
Update: I went from 5 stars to 3 because there’s a critical bug in the Lessons that won’t let you progress past the Capturing Hanging Pieces or Defending Hanging Pieces. No matter how many times I play Dr. Wolf and do these challenges, it won’t let me move onto the next lessons. This is such a clean looking and polished app! It has a very nice feel to it and good lessons. My only critique would be to have a first teaching about what the goal of the game is (for people that don’t have any idea) stating that you want to have the other players king off the board. Then, I also think the Check and Checkmate should be placed before How to Castle. In the training flow, it brings up check before you learn about the Check and Checkmate lesson.
More things to learn

The only chess app you need to learn the basics of chess including the endgame and an opening position. I expected the paid for Coaching mode to include more lessons, eg other openings.

Fun for the beginner minor niggles
As a complete beginner I’ve had fun with the app. I’m hoping frequent use will help me to strong beginner level. Doesn’t feel like I’m learning anything and maybe that’s the idea. I’ve had it about a week or two so I’ll amend my review after further use. The niggles: it can repeat the same training problem in a single session which is annoying. When reviewing mistakes in a game option it reviews all mistakes from recent past games not just the last one. Julio has a great sounding voice but his chatter about works of art and truffles is annoying, please get him to say something else. Pity that there isn’t a 6 month option rather than just 1 month or annual. It’s fun but as a beginner I’m not sure I’ll be here after 6 months. Maybe some videos might be nice as well

There’s some bug which is allowing the opponents pawn to attack my pawn in an adjacent way 🤦♂️
Dr. Wolf is equivocal sometimes
I’ve been using Dr. Wolf APP off and on for over 3 years, with both the paid training version and the free version. The problem I have with Wolf is that he hammers home “Developing” moves- King’s pawn first, followed by King side Knight, then KS Bishop, ultimately leading up to castling the desired goal. When playing a game with Wolf, he later describes these early moves as “errors.” When I check to see why, there is no reasonable reason- nothing of mine needs defending that should interrupt the usual developing stage. So, why is he marking my move as incorrect? I just paid for another month after a long time of inactivity and see the problem has not yet been corrected. I’m going to let the month run out and find something else.
The best way to learn chess fundamentals
It’s always my go to recommendation for anyone wanting to learn. Also, it’s just a pleasant way to learn chess

I want to be able to have more than just games and learning I find it unfair that we have to pay for actual learning that’s what he only downside to this app though it’s a great app and I learned a bit as a newbie
Stable but frustrating
I’ll do a short review, maybe add some later. Overall it’s stable and pretty decent for what it is. I think the menu and changing difficulty etc. is weird, but you get used to it. I’m not a huge fan of the puzzle feature. I just play a game and want to try out my mistakes. And when I go straight from a game to look at mistakes I’m presented with mistakes from 3 days ago as well. Makes no sense. Make two puzzle features then, one of your random over all mistakes and one from each game. Second. It is overly frustrating to solve a puzzle that makes little to no sense optically and yet you get zero logical explanations as to why the new decision is better. Trading an opponent pawn for my knight is the better move, but I gain no ground I can’t see how that’s the better move and the app tells you nothing except, yes that’s the move. How is that teaching anything. This app needs to do better in teaching imo. Other than that it’s a nice practice app but needs a slight upgrade here and there.

play for free. No ads. Never won a game of chess in my life until Doc showed me what better moves looked like.Now when I play, I improve. Can practically feel the new neural pathways opening up.
Stuck on “defending hanging pieces” lesson
I am stuck with only 2 out of 5 points on “defending hanging pieces” lesson. That lesson is supposed to be free to access. I completed that lesson 7 times and won over 70 games without any hints nor undos on beginner level, where I defended hanging pieces countless times in each game, but I haven’t got a single additional point. I reached out to the developer who suggested some solutions (to defend hanging pieces… :D which I regularny do in every game, and then moving to the strong beginner level, which I also did) and none of that has helped. I provided screenshots to prove the issue. The developer is keep trying to push me to buy coaching, which unlocks all the lessons, but I find that pointless at this stage. First you to learn, then you train and can be coached. You don’t buy a car if you don’t know how to drive… Edit: yes I am using the latest version of the app and I already reached out to you. I followed the advice given on few occasions but none of that has helped. I was simply encouraged to pay for coaching instead of getting the resolution.
Clear information never hurt anyone
I’m an eternal beginner in chess, taking it up now and then over the years for an stretch of usually a few months. A latest delve into chess brought me to using the free trial of this app. It’s alright, if not a bit cheesy with the clichéd tweed jacket personalities they have. My cynicism aside the writing is not bad and usually pretty clear on what it’s getting at. It can be very repetitive though, and I think I caught the program sometimes switching my/your. My biggest disappointment is that at one point I selected the “what did I miss” option and was met with “it’s difficult to fully explain but the best move is _____” Here, the limits of an AI teacher are pretty clear. Consigned to spitting out rote replies and limited to what the developer is able to teach. I think I’ll grab a few books and play with friends instead of re-up with the app. That’s just me; I think for the most part this is well done. But had there been an actual analysis of that poor move I might not be on the fence about a subscription.
Euphoric?
Hard to believe there’s almost 400 ratings, most of them euphoric, but nearly all a year or more ago. Something’s odd.

Some moves are not explained as a mentor, follow suggestions and you will win but hard to learn strategy.
