The best for handwriting!
I’ve come back to this app time and time again over the years because, although there are cheaper alternatives, Flow is just hands-down the best for handwriting feel and aesthetic. I’ve used a handful of note taking apps and this one doesn’t necessarily have every feature out there and I think perhaps the file organization could be a little better but what it does do, it does beautifully. It feels like an authentic notepad/sketchbook. As someone who enjoys taking handwritten notes and appreciates doing so with lovely pens and paper, this app above all others makes writing on the iPad a joy - the fountain pen is unmatched, it’d addictive to use and the colors and interface look so beautiful. I think it’s appalling this has so many negative reviews for not being free when it’s clear to see the care and consideration that’s gone in to creating this app. Timepage and Actions are also excellent and similarly enjoyable to use.
Really laggyy
Initially I didn’t want to write anything about how disappointing this app is, but I can’t help but compare it to other, cost worthy apps. It may be user error, it may be that my iPad is a few years old, BUT it is so laggy. 😭 Like I initially tried the free trial version to see how I’d feel about it for the upcoming school year, I did notice that it was pretty laggy when I would write fast. Laggy as in some letters would be distorted and it would take a bit to show up on the doc. In addition to all the lag, when I would finish with the document and exit the app and I open the document the next day, everything I wrote would be gone. I thought that maybe it would take a while to load in, but it never did. So I am now having to deal with $30 wasted on an annual subscription and app I was really hopeful in. If you have an older iPad I think sticking to the Freeform app would be the best option. Refund might be nice!!
Should act more like a notebook.
There should be appendix like feature when you can book mark and highlight sections.
Consistency and Ease of Use win Every Time
I like your app, but the GUI freezes randomly and the full screen implementation is frustrating because it actually does not turn off the icons/buttons across the top as you’re writing and drawing. In terms of design and layout, it’s a breath of fresh air aesthetically in a very crowded space, truly unique. However, I will have to unsubscribe and remove from my device today after a month of use due to the issues mentioned above.

I really don’t like that you can’t exit out of the start a free trail page and the fact you HAVE to make and account is pretty annoying. I do not want the free trail and I wish you could just exit out but whatever. Please fix this

This app needs an italic pen (calligraphy pen ) among its many other pens. Lacking that tool here, I cannot use it for the reasons I wanted it.
I strongly dislike these types of app schemes
It says free download but won’t even let you into the app without signing up for a a paid plan. I don’t need to support developers who have no consideration for their users— skip this one
Great, but....
Awesome app in general. Great haptics, quality, etc. But, I just dont like how when you first join Flow, its like you dont have an option to not buy it. Of course, I bought it. But as a ASD therapy coach, it may have a few problems for the age rating to be 4+. But all in all, great app, totally would reccomend. Great job, Flow Team.

Great app I use for note taking and simple drawing. It’s a beautiful app and now works zippy and is even more artistic. Highly recommended app for Designers

Adding folder management feature
Please add folder making feature to the home page. Then we can put all the notebooks of same subject into a single folder. For an example, personally I keep one notebook for notes and another one for homework for the same subject. Since there are many subjects I’m taking a semester, all the notebooks are scattered on the homepage and it looks so disorganized and takes bit of time to find the correct notebook. Everything else looks fantastic ,specially the UI:)
Far too many bugs
I’ve been subscribed for 4 years, but at this point ProCreate is a one-time purchase and hopefully not riddled with holes. Has gone downhill in the last year or so- strokes disappear when you select them, the page doesn’t render properly, distorted background, and a myriad of other things I’ve run into the last year. These don’t happen frequently. but enough to render it unusable for me.

Locked my files
I don’t like the fact I wanna move my notes to another platform but I only have access to my notes if I have a paid subscription. So I have to pay again to have access to my notes and move them out. This is not transparent policy for an app that storage people notes.
Great app…but not a fan of subscriptions
Probably one of the most intuitive and fun to use sketch/doodle apps. Works excellent with apple pencil. But why the f is everything a gd subscription these days. We’re not all made out of money.

With moleskin being synonymous with notebooks that I use everyday I would love if there was a setting to simulate that here like in paper by wetransfer, but with flows better tools and layers.

Mixed experience
The design is lovely and especially the pens. However I’ve noticed a couple of limitations that deter me from buying a subscription: 1) though pen lines look sharp during drawing, once you lift your stylus/finger, the lines become lower resolution - as if jpg compression has been applied. They stay that way. That puts me off using the app for art. 2) though there are options to see page edges rather than just an unbroken horizontal scroll of paper, there is no way to “turn the pages” like a notebook. This is unwieldy for taking notes, because when you swipe the canvas, you don’t always move it far enough to get a whole blank page. This put me off using the app for notetaking in work. If the above points aren’t important to you, there’s lots to like here - but for me they are problems.
Really love and enjoy the Flow 4 big update
Flow has been my favorite app of note taking and brainstorming. I am glad the Flow 4 has so much enriched features I love. Great jobs team! I really enjoy the update so far!

Great App Almost Amazing
What a great app, natural flow great for note taking and drawing. Bugs seen: Can’t seem to share with others, get error message ‘The Link is no longer active’. Ideas: Text searching, better organisation.

Is this app still supported?
The features in this app are decent, and the app is very elegant. It’s hard to justify paying a monthly or annual subscription if the last update was more than a year ago, in March 2020. Subscriptions work if you’re constantly providing new content and supporting users. If you’re only making minimal changes every year, a one time fee would turn around a lot of the negative reviews here. Fans of Moleskine want to support the brand, but you have to deliver more value to us. EDIT: There is a “What’s New” section inside the app, where the last update was in Mar 2020.

What’s the difference between this notes application and others?
Ive been using this for the past couple of days and realized that it’s simply just a notes app with a pretty format. It’s really no better than other apps let alone surpasses other note apps in regards to their target audience. It seems like its geared towards artists/students, but it’s kind of an inconvenience for both because an artist isn’t going to use a completely different app for planning ideas with less than half the tools they need, neither is a student with what notability/goodnotes offers, so I’m not understanding why you need to pay a subscription to use it instead of buying it once. It is pretty though, I will give you guys that.
Amazing App
This is the most perfect App I’ve used, ever, to make notes. It gives users ultimate flexibility to be creative, plus the beautiful UI is just irresistible. Worth the price!

Okay, so in the line of work, I do this isn't much use but it might be the thing you're looking for. It's very quick and easy to use gives you a range of tools to make your things easier and then it's up to your imagination. I liked the greeting upon opening the app which made it feel the creators take pride in their work and it's important to them that their app works for you and as much as I dislike the current trend for every to be subscription their rates aren't that bad.
Good but not good enough
It’s a brilliant concept and easy to use but £24 a year? It’s not the price that’s the issue but failure to compete in the market. If you have an Apple product you may as well get Procreate, it’s a one time purchase and you have the same features plus more freedom to create. The limitations and inability to compete with Procreate or even the free auto desk sketchbook is literally the biggest negative for me. This app is not spectacular enough for the subscription, and the the free version is far too limited and I believe it’s done purposely for you to spend an extortionate amount for this genre of app, seems like a money grab more than a "support our business"
Okay, but nothing spectacular
I have a Studio subscription for Actions and Timepages, which I enjoy using (although they’re not without issue) but Flow is about as advanced and sophisticated as MS Paint. The UI is pretty, but doing anything beyond changing pen and colour is more of a pain than it needs to be. Exports are pretty low quality too. All in, not worth a subscription when there are so many better alternatives out there.
Been using for a while, and I enjoy it (mostly)
I have recently begun to use this app for notes again. I've enjoyed it for a while, and the new updates have improved it for sure (layers, the new UI). Also there is less bugs which is nice, since 3 years ago it performed fine but with the occasional bug. I love drawing and taking notes on it; it is very simple and satisfying to use. The infinite canvas feature also makes this app stand out. This may be an unpopular personal preference, but I was not a fan of the new way the highlighter tool colors now. I enjoyed how it would work before (making the color darker with each stroke, which allowed for overlaying colors much like an actual highlighter would). It works fine now, but I wish I could have an option to switch between how the highlighter would color things. It's nothing too big of an issue that would make me stop using the app- I still enjoy it and plan to continue to use it. It's reasonably priced for an annual subscription. I do enjoy this app overall.
Misleading
The app is “free” but the only free thing about the app is the download. You cannot do anything until you purchase a plan. Very misleading.
Flows along
I hate the subscription model. However at just under £12 for the year I decided this might just be worth it. Especially if it works across my phones, iPads etc. Layers, I didn’t realise but I do need layers. I know in Procreate it can all quickly get out of hand but without just a few layers I’m at sea and things start to look terrible. Just as the lack of auto lines and perfect circles as per Procreate. I know they are not direct competitors. The zippy sounding pencil case is a nice touch to have and a delight to pick up a brush from the phone then see it and use it on the page. Only thing is if you use the Apple Pencil it’s so easy to tap the phone screen to activate a tool and of course, it doesn’t work, so you have to prod the tools with your finger, then re-grip the pencil. It’s a bit clunky. Allied to that the difference in brightness between the phone and iPad screen somewhat spoils the seamless transition. I realise this is nit-picking but if they say the apps are quote: ‘Flow is designed and built by the same team… with the same obsessive attention to detail, bold aesthetic, playful animation and seamless navigation.’ Then I can afford to be picky. Updating from the server after re-opening the app is often sluggish showing a highly pixelated version of the page until the sync is complete. No, it’s not my internet connection, that is fast enough. I like Flow a lot. Don’t use it as much as I thought I would, it needs some polish and I still don’t like subscription apps.
So near but so far
Like other reviewers I am frustrated because there are many things about this app that I love, and it seems to have been well engineered and crafted. But enough things have not been right (one of which was disastrous) that I am going to abandon it and continue my search for the best general purpose note taking and drawing app. I love the interface, and the feel when using the app, and the way you choose pens and colours. I hate the fact that you can only have an infinite canvas in one direction. I originally chose it because of the infinite canvas but it wasn’t clear that it was only one direction until I downloaded it. Recently I opened the app and found that I couldn’t open some of my files. I have reported an issue to them and they have come back to say the development team will get to it when they can. That’s no good to me and I will have to abandon those files and lose that work which is unforgivable. So I will stop using it, cancel my subscription and continue my search. Such a shame after such promise.
