Just not as good as less costly options
I got a subscription as a deal with a CarPlay unit I bought. It wasn’t really worth the £5 I paid for it. Certainly not worth the full price. I don’t know how they do business, perhaps it’s through trapping buyers that buy it at a special rate into renewal without warning, and then refusing to stop the subscription, even if you stop it on the same day as it renews. Crooks. Avoid like the plague. If the app was any good they would need to use these tactics. Despite saying I can contact them, they still create a subscription trap. Hollow words!
Almost perfect enough
We’ve just done a 4 day tour of the Lake District using Calimoto and it’s been mostly brilliant. I’d recommend checking your route and ‘via points’ carefully however, to avoid pointless trips up farm tracks and around town centres. This wasn’t the app’s fault, but my fat fingers. A couple of bits of constructive criticism/feedback. We needed to get home pretty urgently, so plotted the fastest route back. However, after a fuel stop the route decided to change itself and before I’d realised, the route had changed from a 130 mile journey, to 179 and we were yet again on a farmer’s track to nowhere. I then had to reset the route back to the fastest, but it still cost us an extra 20 minutes. Another thing was when we were navigating through the network of Manchester’s motorways. Exit or lane information would be a brilliant feature, so missing exits wouldn’t happen like it did with us. Being instructed to turn left in 100 metres doesn’t help when you’ve passed the slip road that you needed. Switching over to the likes of *Goggle Maps didn’t help either, as it doesn’t cater for bikes and tries to avoid built up traffic, which we all know doesn’t necessarily apply to bikes. If Calimoto could improve the motorway exit notifications, then it’d be pretty unbeatable for bike navigation.
Mediocre at best
Some of the route planning functionality is handy, but can be a bit hit and miss route wise. The navigation is poor and as a premium only option is expensive and poorly executed. Particularly unhelpful if you rely on the audio prompts only without a map display while riding. For example “continue straight ahead” or “turn left” may be the same thing depending on road layout. Plan your routes yourself and stick with Google Maps for navigation.
Spamming notifications
Taking off a star for every spam notification I get this month. I’m already paying for it; the more you piss me off, the more likely I stop doing so.
The essential biker app
Plan a point to point route, pick a route already in the app or set a loop just brilliant
Route generation poor
Takes you down bumpy narrow single track roads, regardless of what setting you apply. Tried this app a few times now and experimented with every option and it still takes you down poorly surfaced farm roads just because they look curvy on a map. How this yet to be fixed yet is beyond belief, I’ve tried it multiple times since release to same avail.
No Night time driving mode pity.
Been using the app since last summer it’s brilliant loving the routes it’s created they are fantastic biker routes round Yorkshire Lincolnshire Hull all been brilliant. My only issue is no option for night mode so it’s like having a torch shining in my face with my apple play screen on way home in the dark so have to switch to google maps for night mode but that always puts you on the main A roads. Definitely be a 5 star in it gets a night mode option 🤞
Good app,
I really enjoyed using Calimoto while it was included with my CHIGEE AIO-6 LTE purchase. Unfortunately, my experience with customer support has completely changed my opinion. My subscription renewed automatically after one year, and I contacted support immediately after noticing the charge. I hadn’t intended to continue the subscription and requested a goodwill refund within days of the renewal. Despite explaining the situation, and despite not intending to use the renewed subscription, my request was rejected with what appeared to be a standard copy-and-paste response. The app itself is good and for the 12 month I used was great, but customer service and flexibility towards loyal users were very disappointing. I expected much better.
Potential but Limited
Bought for the first time a year ago. Didn’t get on with the A to B route planning as only gave one option. Round trip was expensive and great for local rides and new territory when out on tour. It crashes too many times and if you have a poor signal it just means you don’t use it for return journeys which kind of makes it redundant for me. I switched off the renewal subscription on my devices on to find it renewed because I hadn’t switched it off on the website login! Wasn’t impressed by that. Reached out but was told no refund. I’ve been trying to get my monies worth for year two subscription but in all honesty, I want to use it but it really just feels dated for only have one route suggestion and then you have to pray that when you reach the destination that you have a signal to “complete and replan” your journey back home without it just crashing. What a shame but hope these guys keep on pushing it forward.
Not happy
Paid for premium to use offline maps, never worked once for my whole tour of Spain and Portugal luckily I had another route service I could use not happy at all.
Useless app very buggy
Well had high hopes for this, subscribed to the app and went on holiday, the app was very buggy and consistently routed us incorrectly to find the nearest petrol station - it sent us 20 miles in the wrong direction when it had several garages within 1 mile of our location. Then upon me adding all the photos of the trip within the app it crashes upon saving the end of the ride and now the app I locked up and calimoto cannot recover the ride or end it sucessfully. So have lost all the photos and after the first day of a 7 day adventure and nothing can be done other than delete the app and lose the photos. Won’t be using this again after the expirience. Will try a different app that does work I guess 🤷🏼♂️
Good app needs some improvements
I love this app for creating quick rides in my area without much planning. I do wish I could pick time instead of distance as a variable. I would love to be able to take a shorter but twistier ride. Right now I have to play around with distance and direction to get it right when I only have a certain window of riding time.
Not the adventure I want
I’ve used Calimoto four times now, and every single ride has included at least one very long (we are talking miles) single-track lane. Today it really outdid itself by trying to send my cruiser down what looked more like an overgrown farm track than a road. I was half expecting to meet a herd of cows coming the other way! The route planning idea is great, but if there was an option to avoid narrow single-track roads, it certainly didn’t seem to work for me. Until that improves, I can’t give it more than two stars. Update: I did try the fast “Fast” routing setting and that was the day it tried to send me down a single road that was basically a farm track. I went out numerous times trying different setting but every time I took me down some single track lane where you have to pray there’s a passing point if you meet other traffic as being on a motorbike means reversing is extremely difficult.
Needs A Lot of Work
The app does not recognize stop signs or stoplights, which causes multiple issues when navigating and following directions. On several occasions, road design combined with app errors led to conflicting guidance: the audio navigation told me to turn one direction, while the visual route on the screen displayed the opposite. For example, the mapped route would show a right turn, but the voice navigation would tell me to turn left. The left turn isn’t visible on the map yet and is actual after the intersection however the app doesn’t recognize the intersection. So it gives directions as if the light it stop sign is the turn. Additionally, because the app doesn't understand that you are sitting at a red light or a stop sign, it will aggressively urge you to turn while you are stuck waiting in the middle of an intersection. To make matters worse, if you happen to miss a turn, it completely deletes your next via point. You almost have to ignore the audio directions entirely and just look at the map. This is a major design flaw and is highly dangerous. The second issue—also stemming from the app’s inability to recognize intersections with lights and stop signs—is that it frequently routes you onto major roadways where you end up sitting in traffic for unrealistic lengths of time. If you still decide to use this app, you have to manually verify your routes based on your own local knowledge to determine if a route is actually efficient. I will not be using this app in any unfamiliar areas; you simply never know if it is going to put you on a heavily congested main road with lights at every intersection or a wide-open country road.

Auto-Renewal
I used the App on a trip to Spain 2 years ago. I found it OK, nothing beyond that. I noted last week that the subscription had been auto-renewed. This despite no notification from Calimoto. They are refusing to refund the amount, despite the account and App not having been used in 14 months.
Can’t use on family plan
Was on a recent trip where I needed to share a file for the route with my wife. Although she is in my family plan the app doesn’t allow sharing of the subscription so we both had to buy it just to used the turn by turn navigation. I won’t be renewing as it means we have to pay double where other apps allow us to share.

Good but needs a work.
I found the desktop planning part of the app the most useful. I’m just back from a 4 day tour of Wales in the UK and use an apple car play device on my bike. It’s clear that the app has not been optimised for CarPlay and is instead designed for your phone to be directly mounted on the bike. Some annoying issues included no option to control volume via CarPlay (google maps has this), taking random side roads as ‘twisty’ roads which leave and rejoin the main road which is pretty pointless and after a while a general lack of trust of the apps route algorithm; it felt like we were being pulled off fast winding roads to go down slow green lanes - something which may be more unique to the UK vs the US or Europe but worth considering for any UK based riders. There is also no way to see time to next waypoint in CarPlay - just total time remaining. When you have a full multiple day tour planned this is really annoying as you cannot easily see how much rinsing or miles are left for that day. In the end I resorted back to using google maps which was a shame. I’m sure they’ll get there but I won’t be renewing the free trial just yet.
Pushes boundaries
Fantastic app, used a few times but while on a tour used in Spain and the locations it sent me where amazing but it can push you and your bike on some routes

Used for a couple of years now and really like the variety of routes and ability to keep away from motorway and busy A roads, occasionally puts u on a ‘track’ but otherwise 👍
Love Calimoto
The only thing that really bugs me about this app is the info down the right hand side of the screen. MPH, time, average speed, altitude etc etc. I customise it how I want it and the next time I look,just by an accidental sweep of the hand it’s all upside down again, sometimes even showing the same info multiple times so it’s all to set up again. Would there be any chance you could add a lock button or something to that menu so once the info has been set to preference it stays there without having to change it every time the screen is touched?
Questionable routing quality
I have just started using this app. My 2 main issues with it are: 1. It doesn’t always include junctions in routes where the rider does not have priority. I’ve come across this twice now. The first time was a crossroad where there was a stop sign and I had to cross a main road. The second time was a junction where I had to turn left and give way to oncoming traffic. 2. The twisty setting is ridiculous. It takes you down, what I would describe as cart tracks. If you are crossing a town or city it takes you via the most convoluted routes that are just a waste of time. Additionally, the speed indicator only works in increments of 5mph. This isn’t too bad if you’re riding on a national speed limit road, but in a 30mph zone this could quite easily result in a ticket when Calimoto indicates you are at the limit.
Potential is there
Calimoto has so much potential but on recent trip it has taken me and my road bike down gravel track, other times I’ve wanted to use it but the route to my destination was more miles than I wanted to do. I need more control over the type of terrain and length of the route… some say you can do these things but i faffed with for so long and couldn’t change it. So when these things are available and accessible then I’ll come back to Calimoto. Sorry until the I’m out.
Califunto
Have been using this app for various trips and it is simple and easy to use . It can find routes even local to me that I have never thought to use also can make what would be a pretty mundane route to any destination a lot of fun well worth getting in my opinion
Dated; but has potential (and a bunch of issues I can’t get past)
I’ve been riding for a couple of years and often go out with no destination in mind, so finding new routes can be a challenge. I discovered this app through a motorcycle Discord community and was immediately interested by the automatic round-trip generator, especially the option to prioritise twisty roads. When I started planning my first ride, I found that the feature required a subscription. That wasn’t a problem for me, so I signed up for the free trial and headed out. Unfortunately, less than 10 minutes into the ride, I’d already decided to cancel. A few issues stood out: • The navigation voice sounds incredibly dated and robotic. It genuinely felt like using a GPS from the early 2000s. • The speedometer is almost useless. Riders know motorcycle speedometers are often inaccurate, which is why I usually rely on Waze’s GPS speed reading. Calimoto includes a GPS speedometer, but it rounds to the nearest 5 mph, making it far less useful than it should be. • The map refresh rate and navigation responsiveness are poor. I missed several turns because the map felt like it was lagging behind my actual position. Waze dynamically zooms in at lower speeds so junctions and exits are easy to see. Calimoto stays zoomed out, and by the time the map updates, you’ve often already passed the turn. The route generation itself seemed promising, I would have probably only used it to generate round trips and still be happy to pay the subscription fee, but the navigation experience wasn’t good enough for me to justify the cost.
By far the best bike navigation ive used
The only feedback I have is sometimes it likes to take you of a main road/dual carriage way, through a housing estate, then back onto the same main road. Algorithm needs teeeking a bit but it’s brilliant other then that
Still navigating me through closed roads
This app is constantly routing me through closed roads. The new update still does the same despite saying it has a new feature to avoid them. Will definitely not be subscribing again. Total waste of time
Getting better but poor support
I’m a long time user of Calimoto and it’s much better to use now than a few years ago. It does take time to get used to its peculiarities. I do sadly find support is very poor. It generally takes days to get a response and then the response is often generic, inappropriate or simply irrelevant. Support staff need better training and need to respond on a much more timely basis.
Loving it
Like riding country roads and little villages in Southern England. This app is great for generating whole routes, or changing route quickly when recommended a good place to go en route by a local. One suggestion for improvement would be to build up a library of country cafés to include as waypoints on routes; we tend to stop every 90 mins or so and thus would avoid needing to search separately in Google maps - there are some brilliant country cafes out there!
Beware
Everyone knows that what an automatic annual subscription means. Except that should you be reminded by a charge and you immediately contact support to cancel and get a refund (a courtesy) and they told you can’t, to me, that sounds like extremely poor customer service.
Can’t see the line
I love this app but the one draw back I have is the colour of the line on the route planner. It’s red I can’t see it properly. Due to being colour blind (red/green) this causes me problems. Unless there is an option in the future to customise this, sadly I’ll have to delete the app and go back to using google maps. Otherwise it’s a great tool
Poor
Nowhere near as good as some claim. Despite being supposedly motorcycle specific, frequently plots routes of no interest, such as retail parks, industrial estates and dual carriageways. Often plots routes h suitable too, unless on a very small adv. Try to view a saved, planned route, and it shows you something completely different. Really regret not cancelling my subscription in time.
Please add night or dark mode
I used this app way back when it was first developed and loved it but deleted after one of the updates made routings go to the highways and wouldn’t recalculate in the direction I was going and continued to say please make a u-turn. Well I am back and like the new app and the only issue is being blinded by the app at night. Please please add dark mode or night mode because a lot of us love riding at night and this not only annoying but dangerous.

I’ve been using Calimoto for about 3 weeks now and it’s revolutionised my enjoyment of daily rides around where I live. This app really delivers great routes and the navigation is nicely balanced for a bike
Not suitable for UK roads
Might be okay in Cali, but it’s bordering on dangerous on the UK roads. Avoid at all costs
Great app for riders
Just wish it would have traffic updates, and it should have high fidelity textures on the maps as they are just a blurry mess. But the roads and routes it plans more than make up for it.
Makes routes, but most the time they aren’t good
Often sends you down back lanes which are basically suitable for a tractor, no good to actually ride your bike you end up stressed with bad back and arms. Last 4 trips using this app have been terrible road conditions. Probably won’t use it again not worth the money
Good riding options - but user experience not great
Sone good riding options, but dies tend to pick gravel covered lanes even just for a windy ride, not even twisty. Great for setting up your own rides or modifying one provided. Volume tends to be too low via an Apple Play connection, even when set to high on my mobile. Other apps are fine. Biggest issue is that all roads show up as grey, so my route is not highlighted in a red or some other distinctive colour, so no information about where you’re going up ahead. Also when a turn is imminent it shows up at the bottom of the screen, but that then covers your location on the map and the arrow.

Dangerous app! Missed numerous roundabouts on route and directions were NOT clear. For example ‘left turns’ when you can only turn left on the road - terrible app.
Pretty nice app
I like this app a lot. It created a route based on what I wanted. I have a few small complaints but nothing that will stop me from using it. I will list my gripes just to be thorough, but still a great app. 1. It doesn’t list closed roads/detours. I did my first ride with it and towards the end I had to stop and figure out how to get around some construction. Not just the devs fault. The road crews didn’t put up detour signs so I had to figure it out. But not a big deal. 2. Telemetry is off a bit. Again, not a big deal. But looking at my ride summary it said my top speed was 126mph. I assure you I never went that fast. My top was about 80. Still I would recommend this app.
Just not worth paying for
Unfortunately, I used my free trail a while ago on a bike without CarPlay so didn’t know how bad it was before paying for it. With more and more bikes having CarPlay, this has to be a priority to sort out. CarPlay on a bike is generally going to have a smaller screen than you’d expect in a car and this app just doesn’t cater for that, it’s useless. The route guiding options - Despite most people opinions, I don’t rate these at all. Windy / twisty sees you for the most part on back roads doing 30mpg on gravely uneven roads totally unsuitable for a sports bike, but perhaps interesting on an adventure bike if you have the time. I find myself usually just selecting ‘no motorway’ when covering any distance somewhere I’ve not been before and in that case - Google maps has the same option and is so much better. The only thing I can really say is a benefit is seeing rides others have done and posted, I haven’t found an interesting one yet but imagine if I was away on a trip this might be handy. I won’t be renewing next year unless CarPlay works at least as well as other navigation, or better as I’m paying for it.
Okay but too expensive
I tried the app on free trail. Like a lot of these type of apps, the choice of route is a little hit and miss. The lay out during navigation is very clear and easy to read with large icons. It’s a pretty good app but £49.99 per year is just too expensive for what it is in my opinion.
Simply the best
There is so many options you can do with this app the main one I like is a plan a route and then send it immediately to my Garmin satnav
Cant even create account
Rubbish. It won’t even let me create an account. It just keeps saying unknown error. Deleted and downloaded Scenic instead.
The best I’ve found
This is my second year of use calimoto for my GPS on my bike, a Triumph T120. I used several others before, and this gave me the best routes. The problem that plagued others was the inserting of waypoints. They served no purpose, but passing through one would often make the rest of your ride disappear. It was weird. Calimoto doesn’t have that problem. I love their round trip function. Am 74 so I no longer go on long rides. I generally plan a trip that is a two hour round-trip from my house. It finds tons of new twisty roads I would never have found. My major complaint with calimoto is that they direct me often to Rhodes that are closed for construction. This never happens using conventional GPS apps like Apple, Google and Waze. My Garmin also avoids closed roads. The calimoto does a good job of rerouting, but it irritatingly keeps directing me along routes that have closed roads. Sometimes it has added 45 minutes to a ride to detour around those roads.
Great routes but unreliable app
Paid for premium. It’s great to plan routes and good guidance but constantly locks once you try to end and save your ride. Very frustrating and makes it just a glorified satnav. I am on IPhone 15. iOS up to date. App up to date. 👎🏻
Not bad but not great
I have the premium version. It’s OK for short afternoon rides but not great at long multi-day trips. I planned various routes (on a PC - the iPad just reuses the mobile app so useless) and saved them all. On both days of a trip the app crashed and struggled to restart. The second completely stopping working in the middle of nowhere and insisted I didn’t have premium so should sign up. For a serious navigation app you need reliability and I haven’t had it so far. Also, time calculation is out and under estimates the timings quite a lot. All in all ok but needs work.
