Amboss vs UWorld
I’ve completed UWorld question banks multiple times. For me, Amboss is just better. It feels like less of a grind and key concepts are more easily captured and explored
Used to work properly
This app used to work properly, but clicking on links in the questions to knowledge articles no longer works. This is extremely frustrating and makes it far more difficult to find relevant information for study. I would not recommend this app in its current state. If this gets fixed I will edit this review.
Missing a key feature, good otherwise
How on earth is this missing the ability to highlight text in questions? Seems like a very basic feature for an app designed to do problems on. Night mode would be great too. But otherwise good app.
Text size
The app doesn’t allow you to make the text size bigger. It’s anoying because you have to keep the phone or the ipad very close so uou can read otherwise it’s very small and you will end up having headaches because of the amount of concentration you have to make
Links don’t open articles
I wish clicking on the links to the articles that are linked worked — it doesn’t bring up the Knowledge app or any other webpage. It is a good app for on the go and for downloading offline quizzes, but when I’m connected to the internet and studying it’s a pain to get out of the qbank app and search for it on the knowledge app.

Like that I can download exams and use offline.

You know it’s bad when capitalism has hit the med school question banks hard. Amboss used to be great when i first started using their library years ago. At one point I realized they had been charging me for 2 separate accounts for over a year and when it was brought to their attention they just gave a “whoops” kind of answer and never refunded me the full amount. The question bank has had technical issues since they created it. And their technical support has one answer “I’m sorry i can’t recreate the issue on my end” like okay but I can and I paid yall thousands of dollars for access to something I can’t access. So the last straw for me was the app never says what kind of access you have or when it expires. And today I got a popup saying I can’t access a question set that i completed, and want to review because my unlimited access expired yesterday. Mind you, I still pay for library access which should give me 50 questions a month, can’t have that now either. It should expire in April but Amboss seems really tight on cash if they’re trying to hustle money from poor medical students. With the amount of money I’ve given amboss, i could’ve paid for 5 of their “lifetime memberships” they used to offer before they sold out.

Wish it had the same features as desktop version
I wish it had the same features to access study schedules and programs from the desktop version. Would have been useful to see here.
Text size
AMBOSS is one of the best learning tools and question banks to use. My problem with the app is that they don’t allow you to adjust text size which makes it very hard to read

Basic subscription
I got only 50 questions per month after buying subscription
Add a search bar for lab values
Whenever a question requires evaluation of lab values it takes a considerable amount of time and frustration to use the entire lab value table provided. There should be a feature to simply look up the value as there is in the web version.
AMBOSS is excellent but poor app
Amboss is excellent. The questions and bank of information have been invaluable. The app has issues though: -The light mode only is annoying -the app will randomly just go blank while doing question sets and I have to exit out to make the question reappear -the images frequently have a bar along the bottom that covers part of the image and makes them illegible when reviewing the graphics that go Along with the answer choices
Love Amboss… the app could use work
It’s nice to be able to do questions on the go when I need to when I’m in rotations but it’s a bit annoying because I can’t use the links for articles for certain topics… there seems to be a bug. Also a bit annoying that when you pull up labs to check reference ranges you can’t see the question stem at the same time and the reference range sheet is the smallest font ever.

TLDR: Good app if you accept the user interface
First off AMBOSS is gold tier. They have an incredible, extensive database. This app doesn’t really give AMBOSS though so don’t base buying a membership off this (membership is worth it just do it). This app though is giving unfinished. I think the main issue is just ui, although I appreciate the same consistency in aesthetic across AMBOSS platforms. Don’t get me wrong this is so good for doing practice questions on the fly and making things less boring. Like for example, you can hide the answers and guess before revealing them and rule them out (which the web browser version does not?). Highlighting with an Apple Pencil does not work well - when you finish a question it highlights what you should have highlighted instead of those orange/brown underlines seen in the web browser version. Also, You cannot directly access study plans made by AMBOSS through this app - you have to start a question session on the web browser before doing it on the app. The Anki card download feature thing isn’t on here either. I know this app is just for questions, but it seems like the ui flow/features should be a little more advanced given what AMBOSS has produced product-wise so far.

No night mode
Am I mistaken or in 2024, an esteemed medical education organization could not bother to add the so-called “night mode” feature to avoid eye strain? Really disappointed.
AMBOSS is awesome
AMBOSS is the best, I just wish that the app incorporated the study plans into it rather than only having them accessible after starting the quiz in a browser.
Love AMBOSS Hate the App
Can’t highlight the question stem, can’t cross out answer choices, can’t write notes. Very limited functionality. Not an acceptable alternative to the desktop version.

The application is working good but if you consider adding highlight option when reading the question that would be helpful a lot.
Bug Issues
“Oops something went wrong.” On exams in use or review. Logging out shutting down doesn’t fix. Requires a completely new test to be made.
It works now
I can log in. AMBOSS is great. The app could use some beefing-up though. The laptop version is so fancy but the app is kind of bare bones. Question font is really tiny.

Underdeveloped app. You can’t access the Study Plans with this.
Needs a dark mode
Unfortunately this app chews through my batter on iOS and Android devices with OLED screens because it lacks dark mode. Please consider adding a dark mode to both Android and iOS versions. Thank you!
Amazing offline features
Thank you for offering offline resources. The power grid is unreliable and I’m still able to study and practice with AMBOSS during power and WiFi outages.
NOT for iPads
iPad Pro 7th gen iOS 16.1.1 A developer responded to my previous complaint about small font with the suggestion , “try increasing the font size.” OMG, why didn’t I think of that ! Here I am decreasing the font when I should’ve been INCREASING THE FONT SIZE. Ihope my sarcasm is dry and pungent. BOTTOM LINE: this app is not iPad friendly. It’s like staring into a flashlight for 6 hours a day because the developers insist on small black font on a flat white background.

Great app but here are some problems need to be fixed
Its great but QBank it takes time to open and when I try type there is like 3 second delay. Second thing there are alot of important high yield topics that has no questions on it such as pelvic fractures.
Highlighting feature
As one of the tops competitors for UWorld, I expected a highlighting feature but nothing has been available and I’ve used AMBOSS on and off for the last 2 years. Please update a highlighter feature so we can highlight text. I’ve seen much improvements like added % of questions and hammer. A bigger size font feature, which all of this is hidden in the settings of the app, had to do some digging. An easier interface would be better for students. Thanks!
Great app
Amboss qbank really help me pass my usmle steps. I will be using it now for my step 3. My only thing is that the app itself, i cannot highlight using my pencil in my ipad. I hope you can make that a feature. Thanks.

App keeps crashing
App keeps randomly crashing, making it quite annoying to practice questions
No highlighting
Not sure if there’s a way to highlight parts of questions in the app or when using a iPad browser, but it would be helpful and more realistic if we could. Other than that, fine so far.
Good program horrible App
You can’t highlight, clicking an answer will automatically answer it, and just way worse than the desktop experience which is amazing. Until this app is like Uworld I would not recommend doing any questions on this unfortunately.

App crashing everytime when you click on the settings’ gear icon. This started with the latest update.
