What people like
- Syncs highlights across all devices
- Highly customizable reading interface
- Great integration with Calibre
- Very affordable monthly subscription price
What they complain about
- No one-time payment option available
- Exported highlights come out blank
- Text-to-speech voices sound robotic
- PDF reading support is poor
Superior Text To Speech
In terms of performance, pricing, offline play, file sizes, voice narration selection & dynamics on the ears over extended play, BookFusion is absolutely the superior option over NaturalReader, ElevenReader, Speechify, Adobe and others.
TTS Support is a Joke
The app itself is a decent ebook reader for epubs. PDF support is horrendous. If you are looking for text to speech, look elsewhere. The implementation here is a joke. All English voices are robotic or sound like muppets with masks on. There are some voices that are, frankly, insulting to anyone wanting this option or needing accessibility. The ‘Jester’ voice basically just laughs in between reading words and the ‘Good News’ voice is reading to the tune of the commencement march. Who thought that these would be options that anyone would want?
Love it until...
I discovered only 10 books...back to looking for another reader. But I have to say, it’s really very well done.
Needs attention
Needs attention on the ai reading out loud The ai stops at certain pages. All the time. And you have to skip 2 pages at a time to pick up the reading. So it takes your attention off what you’re doing. Driving or working machinery. Needs look at asap I paid for it to. But the potential is huge for the company 🌞❤️🌱🏴🙏
There is no TTS but it was promised
I downloaded to test TTS implementation (Apple Books works very bad last 3 years) but couldn't find a way to run it. It's simply not exist or hidden too deep. UPD 28.01.2026: thanks for replying, I've found it! Unfortunately available TTS models are from like a decade ago - there is no even Siri TTS model :( Can I use a model from Google / ElevenLabs / Microsoft or a custom local model I trained myself?
Best reader since Marvin!
I absolutely love this app. I searched for one that had all of my requirements like dark black with red text and continuous scrolling. One thing that would make it perfect is to add “Increase Auto-Scroll Speed” and “Decrease Auto-Scroll Speed” as assignable tap-zone actions, ideally adjusting the speed in small increments without opening Reader Settings
Sick of subscription apps
Seems like a great app, but sorry, I’m not paying money every month for an ebook reader in this economy. I’m sure I’ll get a book length response from the developer about how they can’t offer a one time fee option for the app due to server costs, blah, blah, blah. News flash, not all of us want access to the cloud - we just want an epub reader with decent features. I find it hard to believe that any additional development costs would require much, given how fully fleshed out the app is already. Why not offer a lifetime purchase that has limited features?? Typical greedy dev behavior.
Really good start.
I love this app but I would like to see my highlights and the corresponding note underneath it when looking at the highlights tab similar to the Kindle app. I also would love support on android and iOS to make up or underline words like the Kobo app. This would make the app 5 stars. I’d never use Kobo or Kindle apps again.
Good app, insane pricing
So this is definitely a slick, well-developed app with some nifty features esp Calibre integration and markdown exporting. Unfortunately, the pricing is absolutely outrageous. Only 10 books are allowed for a free version, which basically makes it obligatory to pay. (I have 90 books on Books). Then you pay for what is basically storage —- already a feature in an iCloud acct. They want to charge me 2$ for 5 GB per month to sideload and store my own books that i already own and store in icloud. Sure you get the slick features and if its worth it for you, then go ahead. But if you just want to sideload and read ebooks, then it’s overkill.
So close!
This has everything I need, except decent translation. Apple translate is miserably bad. (Why is it so bad?!) If I could opt for Google translate instead, or really anything else, this app would be perfect for what I want to do. I love that you can bulk download highlights as a .csv. Everything else about this app seems great.
Best Alternative for Moon+Reader for iOS
I am very particular about my reading apps. I want to be able to read the books I import at various file types. I read almost exclusively in bed, and what’s the point of having an OLED screen if you can’t set the background black. And then I really like to set my text to orange. It’s weird, I know, but I like it. While I was an android user (most of my life), Moon+Reader was the defacto solution. Coming to iOS though, I’d struggled to find a solution that could accomplish all of the quirks I want in reading on my phone. Until BookFusion. There are a plethora of options, and they’re very easy to find and set up. I’ve got my black background and orange text. I’m very happy. The only thing I’d like to see would be reading time. Even a “date started” would be nice.
Terrible app
Needs to mimic the look of a physical book.
My Favorite E-reader
I have been using this for over a year now and it does almost everything I need. Autoscrolling is a must have and not many do this. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is its lack of OPDS integration so I can pull books from Calibre easily.
No audio option
Title.
Overall great but have few issues.
My major problem is that why it doesn’t have full books page number rather than book percentage. We should have the option to change it. The chapter wise percentage system is good, but sometimes I want to know how much pages left. Kindly fix it.
Indispensable app
I wouldn’t be able to live without this app. I’ve been a user for years and it lives on my Home Screen. I use it with Calibre to manage my whole ebook library and if I could give this 10/10 I would do that Excited to try the advanced TTS. Their support has also been stellar
Too expensive for international audiences
This app is exactly what I had been looking for. Cross platform ebook reader but it’s super expensive for India. Please offer regional pricing not US price everywhere
I really love this app
— it’s almost perfect! You guys are amazing! I just have a small request: when reading PDFs, (for non-scroll-view mode)could you make the page margins black when the aspect ratio of the PDF doesn’t match the screen, just like in Apple Books? It would really help me focus better while reading. Thank you so much! 🙏 Also, I have many eBooks in DJVU format — it would be perfect if the app could support DJVU as well. 😍
A functional app, cannot rate higher than two though because…
This rating is based on the cloud functionality which was apparently subject to a bug. If this is the case then I’ll update my rating. There is still the fundamental problem with the cloud integration in that you can’t mark books which you do not want uploaded to the cloud. This is needed to efficiently use the cloud storage as not all books need detailed highlights & commentary synced across devices. With this feature as well, even with small issues re: UI for example, I’d have to give this a full 5 stars (as opposed to 4 which this will become if I confirm a bug was responsible for my other issue).
Works alright, but missing functionality and bizarre bugs
Got this as an attempt to replace the no longer maintained Marvin3 app. It works okay for reading books, but there's no cloud integration with things like Dropbox like I had in Marvin, colored text doesn't render, and weirdest of all the app glitches out if you try to add more than ten books. I'm going back to Marvin, at least it has a good excuse for being glitchy.
Lacking one time payment!
The app is great having many interesting features. One time payment is a necessary feature for those who cannot pay monthly subscription fees. This is more important for regions in which credit cards are unavailable including many countries in Middle East.
Völlig unbrauchbar

Feature request
I really enjoy this app. Is it possible for when epubs when you have a word that has an asterisk next to it as a footnote, it can make that footnote pop up on the screen in a bubble without it taking you to the end of a specific page with all the other footnotes? When there multiple footnotes in.m a chapter, you can’t tell which is which because they aren’t specific on which one you’re looking at. And then you don’t know which one to tap on to go back to the original page the footnote was on to continue reading.
Exporting Highlights simply doesn’t work
Whether it’s an export to PDF, csv, HTML, the highlights export is simply blank. Tested with two books with multiple highlights. Very poor
Great service
I love BookFusion. The devs are very responsive in their discord and subreddit as well.

So close to perfect for me
I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect ebook reading app for a while and so far this one is one of the best I’ve found. The UI is beautiful, it’s very customizable, and it’s well organized. My use case is a little specific as I’m using it to read foreign language texts, which means I often need to define/lookup words. It’s SO close to being perfect for me. One thing I would change is that you can’t bring up the inline context menu with the pencil, only with your finger. I wish there was at least an option to not have the pencil automatically highlight, but instead to bring up the menu, as it does with the finger. If the devs were to ever add this option it would easily be my favorite ebook reading app. Edit: I see now that changing the way the pencil works is already possible, from the device settings instead of the app settings. Now that I know this it has greatly improved my experience. The only thing that I would love to see that would make this a perfect app (for me at least) would be the ability to calculate/display page numbers instead of the percentage you are through the book. Sometimes I prefer to structure my reading by “pages” per day so I’m currently having to count manually. I see that this feature has been in the “planned” stage for a while so I hope they implement it soon!
cloud works great. PDF in a good place. Epub features need work — especially with note behavior
Bookfusion is getting really good but we BADLY need inline notes display for epub (like kindle has) instead of jumping to note location. back' button is absolutely not efficient. This is not a minor limitation for anyone who reads scholarly and literary epubs, which I assume is a significant portion of users who would pay for an cloud ereading and annotation app. It is a huge gap which completely rules out bookfusion for epubs of this kind.
And you can’t beat the price!
This is an amazing app for those who want to read books across different platforms and keep the highlights synced. The best part is the Obsidian plug-in, which imports all of your highlights in a neat fashion and is fully customizable. Wait, I lied. The best part is the monthly subscription price. They’ve made it extremely affordable for people to use unlike those other ridiculous apps that you see a $10 monthly subscription. At 1.99 a month it’s excellent.
Good App - Needs Improvement for Notes and SplitView
As others have mentioned the app is a great epub reader. For the sake of using the app in Portrait Mode: - Add Column View Option - Currently on allowed in Landscape Mode - Split Screen Feature to open the app in two windows on an iPad. Please add columns to Portrait Mode. For sHowever, please use caution with adding notes as these notes are not always saved. Additonally, the app needs to allow for the open to support two instances of the same app being opened. Both items are crucial for students notetaking and studying.
Poor communication
Reduced the number of free books from 50 to 25 without any warning or notification. I had to Google to find out what had happened to my other books. I was considering becoming a paid member, but not if this is how they operate. Update: Changing rating because when I felt less frustrated I thought it was unfair to rate so low when the functionality of the app is very good for what it does. Communication could still be better for people who primarily want to use the app and don’t use the website— I was looking for an alternative to calibre I could use on my phone, and if you are willing to upgrade to the paid version, it would probably be pretty good for that, but at a minimum it would be good to have notices pop up in the app.
One of the best study apps on the market
This is one of the best apps I’ve used for organizing my digital textbooks for study. If you need an app to organize your digital textbooks and read them from any device, this is that app. The website and app integration is seamless. It’s totally free to use, and I don’t need to have a subscription, but I chose to just because I love the developers of this app so much. It makes studying the most convenient thing from anywhere. The interface is clean and simple and the features synergize nicely.
Well designed, customizable reading app
I don’t know why this doesn’t have more reviews, it’s a great reading app. I used Marvin back in the day, and have recently been using the stock Books app but wished it had more customization (plus the constant pushing of books for sale on the main screen is irritating). The reading interface is highly customizable, and the interface is well designed. I also like that the books grab descriptions as well (Books doesn’t do this so I’m constantly heading over to Goodreads to try to remember what a book is about before I dig in). The only thing the app is missing is displaying time left in chapter/book (which could be calculated by learning a user’s reading speed in the first few pages of each book). It’s the only thing preventing me from getting a long-term subscription, and I imagine a feature a lot of other users would want as well. Great job otherwise!
No calibre plugin
Edit after dev response : There is a paid desktop app with the same name and is a scam (not related to the developers) Sign with Apple does not work, I don’t want to provide data to Facebook or Google PS Requires a (free) calibre plug-in on desktop to work
worth it
if ure looking for an app u can use to have a shared library between ios and windows (what i was desperately looking for lol) this is it. the library and bookshelf functionality is intuitive and seamless in terms of organizing ur stuff. the reader is solid and nice to use, i like the warm, paper-ish theme the best for appearance i have nothing negative to say which is rare for me, well worth the premium sub
Siri voice?
I wish there was a way to use Siri’s voices in the text to speech option. I have them all downloaded so I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong? Also Daniel (enhanced) doesn’t work (though that’s an Apple problem more than the app problem) And I wish it wasn’t a subscription, like what’s up with that these days :( Lovely app besides the previous things. <3
Needs page flipping instead of scrolling
Otherwise great app
Lovely
It’s an excellent app, you will get everything you need, highlighting, concise notes of the highlights and update across all device and systems. Visual options are also great. I am loving it.
Wish it wasn’t subscription model
Really like the app, but wish there was a way to pay a one-off fee for basic use (just unlimited books locally) along with the pro model for those who want to sync in the cloud/with multiple devices or platforms.
