What people like
- Extremely easy and friendly to use
- Higher interest than most banks
- Great for beginners starting out
What they complain about
- Support takes days to reply
- Withdrawals are no longer instant
- Interest payments take up to six days
Simple
Does what is needed. Easy to save with this app with automated withdrawals, good range of accounts and small selection of simple well performing funds so it’s really hard to go wrong. I recommend for anyone who is new to saving who might be daunted by other platforms this is easy to use and foolproof.
Avoid - Impossible to move your Cash ISA out!
Everything was fine until I tried to move my “smart” cash ISA to a more competitive provider. They rejected the transfer claiming missing information when I made sure to provide every single detail. This is definitely not the way to try to keep customers.
Too much information
What I do not like is the ability to nose into my linked bank account. I want to be able to turn that part off
Not what it was
Generally a good, easy to use app, but there have been a lot of changes recently to account conditions and interest rates, such as shame, as no longer competative. Cash isa ok at the moment. Rebranding is awful!
Ok for the rates
I switched to this app from trading212 because of the better savings rates but there are a few things which I don’t enjoy, such as the fact it takes so long to withdraw the funds (I used to be able to withdraw money instantly, now it takes at least 1 business day) and that I don’t see how much my savings have increased each day unless I log in to the app. Having a notification of “you have earned £2 today!” Is a nice incentive to keep setting money aside in the cash ISA. Other than that, at least the app is easy to use I guess.
Chip ISA took 2 minutes setup
Chip in to savings ISA and excellent rate took 2 minutes to fund from my savings which attracts little interest
App deposit issues
Just opened account and the ability to make deposits keeps failing,,, Awaiting response from CHIP
Good app with a few complications
Chip have a good app, and competitive rates across accounts. However app functionality can be limited for depositing funds. ISA deposits are only supported from banks using open banking, this limits a number of major banks such as Virgin Money.
Used to be better. Rebrand is terrible.
You’ve sucked to character out of the brand. There are core UX issues which have been raised and never been resolved. Pots and investments UI needs improving. Again the app used to be better, this new direction you’re going with is bad…
ISA rates
The rates are no longer competitive and I will be transferring my funds…no good just to give competitive rates to draw funds in then drop them
Easy to use
Never had any previous experience with ISA investments, have found Chip easy to use with good communication and help if you need it, long may it continue.
Awful rebranding
What an awful rebranding, particularly the logo. What level of delusion lead to this decision?
Generally good
The app works fine in my experience and the bank’s saving products seem competitive. I haven’t used other products — like loans etc — so can’t comment. My only grudge is that it takes Chip up to six days to pay out accrued interest— for a fintech company that’s a really poor metric — as the bank basically sits on my money for six days and the funds don’t get to work for me over that period.
Service getting worse
What used to be an instant transfer now takes 2 days
Not as good as it used to be 🥲
I’ve been a user of the Chip app for a while, but unfortunately it feels like it’s lost its edge. The ISA rates are no longer competitive compared to what’s available elsewhere, which already makes it harder to justify sticking with them. But the bigger issue is the Prize Account experience. There seems to be a real lack of communication around the draws. In one instance, I wasn’t notified of any result, so I contacted support and was told I hadn’t won—only to later find out weeks afterwards that I had actually won £10. Now the same thing has happened again in March, with no communication either way, leaving me completely in the dark. It used to feel like a slick, well-run app, but now it’s starting to feel unreliable and frustrating. Hopefully this is just a temporary dip, but right now it’s not living up to expectations.
Fantastic
Fantastic app, easy to use, great support from Chip, All round great experience using the app and being a Chip customer. Highly recommend. 👏🏼
🤷♂️ What's The Point?
Chip's initial premise was a good one: "Keep your money with us and you'll not have to worry about chasing better rates, as we'll always keep up." Now that they have decided to no longer do this, what's the point? Sadly, there is none. Switch.
UX issues
Improvement to UX such as friendly error messages would go a long way. Shows me a HTTP error when trying to open an account which turns out to be because I had an account previously ones and closed. Any reason why one can’t open a GIA after closing one previously? All other platforms allow this.
Interest
But lipid having the same rate of interest for instant and easy access accounts.
The best
Everything about it is the best out there. Making investing simple!
Second attempt
In summary, Grimebearer comments chimed with mine. As a corporate finance manager it was obvious the plan was to scale up and seek investment. When I took a look at the Chip Investment document and laughed the assumptions were crazily optimistic as were the prospects of the vision to investors. Good luck but don’t forget about the people you need to keep happy to make it a business.
Don’t use for investing
Investing in anything volatile is extremely frustrating, due to long delays in deposits and withdrawals, as well as extended periods of shutdowns for example over winter holidays. This has made my investment journey incredibly frustrating, and I will be moving to trading 212 in future
Saving made easy
I get double the interest rate that my bank gives me , it’s a no brainer to keep my savings in chip , I also love the simplicity of saving with the app .
Poor
Came to chip to move years of ISAs , but can’t even sign up, the final screen just spins, if I force close, restart my phone etc, I have to enter all my details again for the same result! Will try Vida instead
Erratic
My general investment fund doesn’t always update so I find it frustrating , I use the profits for my pension. I have contacted them a number of times but it is still very erratic.
Excellent Platform
I have been saving using chip since 2017, find it very easy to use and a range of excellent investment products. All my saving and investments are now in chip.
Disappointing changes over time
It’s disappointing to see how Chip has changed over time. I was a user back in 2017 and really liked the app, so when they did a Crowdfunding round I invested some of my savings. I even participated in several subsequent rounds. I was initially impressed by how the app improved, and by how Chip grew its user base and started monetising it when rates rose. But communications with investors have been terrible, bordering on contemptuous. Updates are irregular, and the quarterly reports that were once promised have been abandoned. Emails to management to complain are met with platitudes. Have a look at Chip’s shareholder community forum - the tone is very negative. The people who were the earliest backers of Chip and could be the biggest grassroots marketing tool are furious at the way Chip’s founders take them for granted. There was an attempt to offer shareholders a way to sell out last year, but in the end only 10% of shares were allowed to be sold. Chip then went completely silent and didn’t give any further updates - we’re still waiting for the annual report after giving up hope of any more quarterly reports. As usual, Chip will promise that it’s on its way and then do nothing for months. Keeping Chip’s shareholders happy would require so little. Regular updates (at least once a quarter), being kept in the loop on Chip’s financials, webinars with management etc. Instead, Chip has ensured that it has little if any goodwill from its shareholder base - who are, in case management needs reminding, co-owners of the business. Overall, very disappointing. If I were a potential private equity buyer doing due diligence on Chip I would regard its founders’ attitude towards other investors as a cause for concern.
No CSV export
This app lacks the ability to export or download transactions as a CSV file. It can do PDF statements but not CSV. Serious drawback if you want to maintain a spreadsheet.
Remove my details
How do I remove myself from you privacy policy saying your going to share my details with pretty much anyone you see fit. If I don’t get my account deleted in the next 30 days I will reach out to stronger influence. My consent for you to use my data has been revoked as of this day. Any use of my data without my consent will have me move forwards to legal action .
Poor service
Slow customer response when problems arise connecting to bank accounts. Held at arms length by thick BOTS when you need to speak to a human being. No notification about cash ISA change I discovered a lowered interest rate by accident.
Most user friendly app I’ve ever used
So many banking apps are a pain to use… this is the most use friendly app I have ever used. So easy to do everything
New ISA
I’ve been with CHIP for a number of years and have always found them to be great until I joined the new ISA. Withdrawals now take a day to process which makes it difficult to manage my money overall. Sadly now in the process of moving my ISA to trading212
Website
Excellent website so easy to use, and very secure.
The most garbage Customer Service ever!!
If you message because you need something urgent to do with your account, you’ll be lucky if you got an idiot responding to you in 5–6 days, who doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I have been also given the wrong information multiple times from their customer service agents. Also, they unlawfully refused my ISA transfer out, and I am currently in the process of the financial ombudsman involvement. Avoid this failure business
