What people like
- Keeps projects focused and stops email spam
- Simple interface that does the job well
- Helps remote teams stay organized and on track
- Easy to use for all skill levels
What they complain about
- Crashes often on poor connections or older phones
- New design is cluttered and harder to navigate
- Notifications are unreliable and sometimes repeat unnecessarily
- No offline mode to work without internet
All the functions you need, none that you don’t.
As the headline says, it’s not bloated by a multitude of hard to discover and hard to use functions that no one ever uses, but it does what it needs to do very well. I love it.
Worst update ever
They completely ruined the platform with the Basecamp 5 update. My homepage is now cluttered with a million different tabs and buttons yet the interface can’t maintain a copy and pasted hyperlink. I genuinely want to know who even asked for these changes
Good, but no indication of badge count
Does exactly what it should, except on iPad when you go into the app there’s no indication of what’s caused the badge count, so you’ve no idea what is actually new, and you can’t clear the count. Which is immensely frustrating.
Terrible redesign
I don’t know why they decided to redesign the app. It’s awful. We use it within our business and we train people how to use it. And then Poof! everything is moved and we need to do another training session. There was nothing wrong with it before. This sucks.
Please add support for older ios ipad/iphone versions on Basecamp 5
This is a work app, therefore mandatory for some. Not everybody can afford/wants newer phones. It’s not a high resource app. Please add support for older devices. I’m trying not to tank your ratings but please help us out.
Basecamp
Simple intuitive and extremely helpful.
The new update and UX is a disaster!
We’ve been using Basecamp on all our clients projects for the last 5 years (over 5000 projects) and overnight they completely revamped the UX and made it very difficult for our clients to navigate. The new design is less intuitive and now after five years, we will be forced to leave this once awesome app behind. Basecamp used to be amazing for its simplicity, and this latest update lost that unique edge.
iOS version not as reliable
The app on my mac works smoothly but the phone up connected to the same wifi has not be functioning as well for a few weeks.
Messages don’t work
Overall app works fine! But for couple of weeks now, the pings don't work accordingly. When I receive notification, and open the app, the latest messages don’t show up I have to close the app, then re open it before I can read the message.
Change back the icon
It’s a great app but changing the icon had been a nuisance in sharing and finding. Please turn it back to yellow.
BASECAMP IS 🔥
Basecamp has honestly saved my life, before I would just go back and forth on emails but using this has help me keep on top of projects. Totally recommend it.
New Design Is Brutal
The new updated design and layout isn’t so bad on mobile, but on desktop the entire layout is insanely narrow and no where near as comfortable to navigate. Instead of having my pinned projects on the home screen all in one place I actually have to scroll now to get to some of them. This new layout is a big miss in general. 👎🏻
Realny good management app. But it needs one feature.
The app is overall really good. It does what it meant to do and it does it really well. The only feature I highly request is support for File in iOS 11 and transfer between apps. That would make my life so much easier and overall that is a very convenient feature. Please add that in soon :)
Very different from v2 and 1, missing some basic things
I've been using Basecamp for years now. Without it would have been literally impossible to manage so many projects. However, be aware of you're moving from v2 to v3. It's shockingly different, the customer interaction is limited. I'd advise to fully test it, and also as a customer to see exactly what you're getting into before switching from an existing version. ***update. As of yet, believe it or not a customer cannot reply to a post/email within “Basecamp”. They need to go back to their emails and reply, believe it or not, this is ridiculous basically zero need to even mention Basecamp to a customer... they can only reply by email.
Great service, nice app but no offline mode
Basecamp is at the heart of our business, the ios app is nice and convenient but it would be really useful to have an offline mode.
Exceptional
Just brilliant software
Bugs on mobile
Downloaded and started to use it. As soon as I open a card (iPhone 16 Pro) the page layout breaks. It’s not mobile friendly and the colours are all off. I can’t even read it. Hopefully they fix this, in which case I’ll have a second attempt.
One of the best business apps
I've really enjoyed using Basecamp3; it is intuitive and easy to use, regardless of your proficiency level.
No repeating events?
Ridiculous omission and one I consider a major downgrade from using BC2. Please reinstate!!!
I would live in this if it had a dark mode!
This is an excellent start but still feels a little on the thin side and definitely glaring for those of us with sensitive eyes.
By far the best project management tool available m
After trying literally ever other piece of software available, it’s clear and easy to see why Basecamp wins any day and every day.
Keeps crashing!
Over and over again is crashing
You're gonna LOVE Basecamp
I can't get enough of this system. We manage loads of similar projects. It's the only tool that we found on the market that could do the job. Having a cheeky little iPhone app makes it all the better. We done!
Mr
L’outil de recherche est difficile à retrouver (il faut revenir chaque fois à la page d’accueil) et relativement inefficace pour l’utilisateur.
Clunky and unreliable
I’m writing this on an iPhone. I often have a poor connection as I commute through tunnels etc. The app can’t handle this situation at all. It hangs or crashes. It says there is no data in the Files section or Messages when I know there is because we’ve been putting data in there for months. It should at least acknowledge that it’s loading and not tell me everything has disappeared! There are too many features and you can’t turn off the things your team doesn’t use so everything is cluttered and the most used parts of the app are buried behind a half dozen taps. I should be able to put shortcuts to the parts of the app I actually use on the front screen. Instead every time I load I have to go “tap, tap, tap” to get anything done.
How easy is easy?
I've used a variety of software solutions to track projects and always ended up more confused and find spending more time adding things via pen to paper. This however, is brilliant, it's so easy to use that I've saved so much valuable time on projects since implementing.
Was working now it crashes
It crashes when opening. So annoying. I’m on a board and we use this to communicate. I have removed the app rebooted my phone reinstalled. No joy. Web is the only option. It was working perfectly.
Invaluable...
I have been using Basecamp for a couple of months now to manage my small team. I have found it an invaluable tool to share resources and keep everyone on track. I looked at some other tools but eventually rejected those given the better functionality offered by Basecamp. I particularly like e-mail forwarding. So why 4 stars? Well it is not perfect and there are a few minor irritations, which don't detract significantly from the overall utility. I would like to see a cleaner UI and ideally customisable. The ability to edit offline and have it update once an internet connection is available. It can be slow if you want to upload files and crashes (embedding links works better). The ability to have integration with more than just google docs. However, if you are looking for a tool to get your team humming like a well oiled machine - you should definitely check out Basecamp.
Weak usability and functionality
Lacks overview, orientation cumbersome, external files can't be viewed inside app, calendar misses proper calendar-like presentation, design a bit childish. If this is the state of the art in team collaboration software, I'd rather do without.
Threading in Messages & Pings
Not a luxury a necessity so as not to have to revert to WhatsApp on projects. Things can get a bit messy and disorganised in Basecamp with very busy teams dispersed around the world.
Very effective for large groups in different places
We have teams of people working on different projects in different locations and Basecamp really helps us to manage our teams. Great value
Waiting for years an update, and now you need a subscription!?
As a freelancer working for companies who use Basecamp, the most helpful tool is logging my time used on different task, you never were able to do that with Basecamp 2 or 1. Now they released version 3 and you need a subscription? Sorry, but I am not gonna buy it. Make a version for companies and make a version for just simple invited users. Cheers
Useful addition to desktop version
It's condensed and useful to have as a support for the full version. It gives you what you need to track progress and is easy to use.
Bleurghh
Makes the web interface seem OK, and it's useful for deadline notifications. (Unique, right?! no other app can remind you of deadlines?!) Basically irritating disorganised unrewarding crap. The app doesn't prompt task creators to communicate well. Doesn't provide any structure for tasks. Doesn't provide any useful management or performance data, e.g. reports on tasks completed ahead of time. I think the reason it's popular is that it faintly makes tasks fluffy, e.g. via the smiling icons, this further allowing managers to disconnect from underlings. Yuck fest - and not a particular useful one at that.
Very glitchy but otherwise awesome
Introduced Basecamp to my sector and it's an amazing tool. I can't consistently use it on my iPhone 6 because it's glitchy and crashes loads. If that's fixed then I'll give it an extra star!
❤️ Love Basecamp
I love Basecamp. No need to rely on spam filled, non-shareable email inboxes to manage projects. I’ve used it across two digital agencies. Wonderful.
Confusing
Unfriendly interface, not easy to navigate or find things. Doesn’t work the same in each device. Frustrating. Support difficult to find.
Great app!
Can't wait for a new design and more functionalities!!
So slow
Why does it need an internet connection to load data on startup. It should be quick and easy to add to do items that you think of while on the move but takes an eternity to load and get into the screens you need.... then you've forgotten the task by the time you get there. Maybe a sync in the background should be introduced to make it more responsive when only on gprs or a slow data link.
(z.B. andere Farben)
Jason Basecamp user
As a user of the Basecamp App i enjoy the flexibility it gives me, ie: not feeling constrained, the options not hurdles to which I’m able to interact with others is a great positivity to this App and finally the inclusion enabling us to have more vision as a team.
Littered with bugs
Often have to restart the app. Bugs include: Refusing to connect intermittently Continuing to repeat notifications after I've viewed the ping/update V annoying! Also needs ability to silence a particular team or project from notifications. Fix it and add the functionality that basecamp 2 had, and we have a winner. At the moment though it's so buggy I wonder if they even use it themselves, which worries me. And I did try to report these bugs from inside the app, but it tried to open the Mail app on my phone, which I uninstalled in favour of the gmail app; I wasn't about to install the Mail app again... better to use a contact form there.
Keeps improving
Overall Basecamp is the best out there for me...
For crying out loud
I wanted to download a usable app, not run through the gauntlet of signing up for a mysterious online experience.
Some nice bits, but shame some other things went.
Not entirely convinced by the look of the todos, and would like to have the option to dim or hide the done ones. Like the reports, though might mean changing how we do stuff (for the better) Can see how it's been made more formally a project management tool.
Great for projects
I love Basecamp. It provides the focus to stay “on topic” and monitor many projects simultaneously.
Really?
I hope no company actually plans on using this. This app would maybe and I mean maybe work well for selling girl guide cookies but to actually try use a business with this haha good luck.
Good but room for improvement
It's a good app, mimics the desktop and browser version well for a simple interface but it has its ups and downs. Can be a little unreliable at times but it's very good when it works well.
